Charon Arterius Appearance: "Holsters" would hold tools or weapons if need be. He is 5' 9". Living Status: Charon is actually more of a wanderer, although he does consider the Duchy of Raetia his home. He however usually wanders around Axios and uses his "Home" as more of a place of rest and to restock on supplies before the next adventure. Family: Charon's father went missing during the first Coalition conflict against Oren, and his mother still lives in that same town Charon was raised in, but is old. His dog, Vadam, died at the age of 17 during his childhood. Personality: Charon Arterius is stalwart, to say the least, and trusts his friends that he has gained with his life. He is laid back and is not really the serious type. He doesn't indulge in fancy wordplay and formalities unless it is severely needed and tends to say what he thinks, getting straight to the point. He does enjoy a good time however and is not one to disagree to a drink. Charon is a kind man, willing to lend a helping hand if needed, as he is used to keeping stocks of food full from his experience as a farmer both in his childhood and adulthood. He is curious as well, making trips to the Library of Dragur and reading up on philosophy and history. Skills: Charon is a skilled farmer and chef, using his abilities to acquire food and prepare it in interesting ways. He is also well versed in hand to hand combat due to his time in the military recently. Although he is not the most skilled with weaponry, he is able to use a sword and ax to some extent. He also has learned how to use a bow and arrow and uses that if needed as well. He can read and write, learning from his mother in his childhood. He has also recently learned how to play the Lute and even some songs, and sometimes carries one around to use if he's bored. The Voice of Charon: Disclaimer: He does not end up like Atlas does in Bioshock, and you know, without the crackling of the audio. Backstory: Charon Arterius was born in the now Kingdom of Courland into a well off family in the year 1582. They were located in the Southern End of the kingdom near the coast in a small town. The town itself wasn’t large. The buildings had dull colors, usually in shades of grey and brown on the outskirts, but the buildings near the port boasted stronger structures and more color. Charon lived near the port. He assisted his father when he went off to fish, as it was their main source of income and at some times food. With this, Charon’s father would give him lessons on how to operate and maintain a ship. “Whatever you do, you show your ship as much respect as you would your mother and I” he would always say. When Charon returned from fishing with his father, he went to his mother to learn of literature, developing a love of storytelling. Life was never too nerve racking for the people there. The most exciting life ever got there was during their festivals. Everyone would gather by the ports and have a merry time, drinking, gambling, and telling stories. Sailors would usually get the crowds for the stories as, although maybe not entirely true, were entertaining none the less and attracted many. Charon’s father at the age of 10 believed Charon could start going to these, and he did. He would never leave a festival without listening to the sailor’s stories. Due to the casual weather with no major changes, the calm feel, and culture of the town, it was also a popular site for adventurers and men and women of wealth. These people wished to see more of the world, and Charon as a boy saw more of it through them. He saw how different they all looked and was intrigued by it, excited everyday day to see who would walk into town next. Charon enjoyed his time here and was happy, social, never seeming upset unless there was a good reason. As he grew, he changed though, and so did the world around him. This pattern of calm and happiness continued until the beginning of the conflict against the Holy Orenian Empire. The Kingdom of Courland led this Coalition, and thus put as many resources as they could into it. At 11, Charon’s father was approached by 3 men. Two wore armor and their faces were hidden under their helmets. The man in the middle held a large book and wore clothes that indicated his wealth. He approached the father and declared loudly, as if praising Charon’s father: “Corinth Arterius, you are being called on by your king as a loyal servant to serve your kingdom against the enemy! We will give you time to prepare your belongings and say your goodbyes, then meet us at the exit of your town.” The Kingdom of Courland was at war, and the conflict need men, and Charon’s father was heading to the front. The three men walked away, and repeated the same message to another man, and continued to do so to more. Charon’s father discussed with his crew, and returned to Charon. They walked home to tell Charon’s mother the news, and she wept, hugging Charon’s father. Corinth turned to Charon and hugged him, “Take care of them.” Charon was confused at this, who else was there to take care of? Then he remembered. His mother and the ship, no, it wasn’t just a ship. It was the Meridian. He also now realized he had a job now. He would have to work on the ship to take care of his mother, and she would deal with matters that Charon’s father would have. Corinth gathered his belongings, hugging and kissing his family one more time, and left the home. Charon now had to grow up. After his father had left, Charon had worked on what was once his father’s ship, the Meridian. She was a medium sized vessel, meant for day trips and holding medium amounts of cargo. She had two masts, each boasting white sails, with the big ones on the lower end and the smaller ones up top. Charon served as a spotter. The job of a spotter was to spot schools of fish on the surface. The reason many schools of fish came to the surface was due to cold of the deep. The water around Charon’s town was generally warm at the surface, but drop sharply if you go deeper. Charon would spot schools and direct the captain, whose name was Garalith Francois. Garalith was a stubborn man but had the traits of captain. He was a friend of Corinth and was generally a kind man who put his crew before himself. Due to his friendship with Corinth, Garalith would pay extra attention to Charon, still giving him lessons on maintaining and using a ship while making sure he was safe. At this point, Charon was 12. He would work on the ship and return home to his mother for dinner. The lessons of literature stopped when he became 12 as his mother simply was too busy. Due to this, Charon would sometimes stop by the library of the town. Here he would take his time reading books of interest. His favorites were sometimes fantasy or sailor stories. He also began to acquire a love of history as the battles, lives, and mysteries of the past caught his attention. He especially loved the stories of the ancient ruins and their creators. The mystery around them was like a drug and it was intoxicating and he wanted to know more. When he would return home, his mother would berate him on being home late, then make him supper. He would continue the festivals, and with this he met more people. He would converse with the people of other species when they visited during the festivals. Charon however was sent reeling when he returned home to see the man who had recruited his father in his house. Charon peered through the window. His mother and the man were talking, and the man bowed his head, and Charon’s mother weeped. The man spoke again, and then left. Charon entered and assumed the worst, his father was dead. However, his mother explained the situation. Corinth was actually missing. His body was never found after a battle and was presumed missing. For Charon and his mother this was worse. It was painful knowing someone you cared about has died but at least you have closure, but now they don’t know. Was he dead? Was he alive? No one knew, and it was agonizing for Charon, and especially his mother. Charon continued his daily routine, just with less enthusiasm than before. Garalith had heard the news as well and had comforted Charon. The two soon developed a friendship as they sailed together, and Charon began to feel better. He was still pained by the question, was his father dead? He would never know. Charon was now 17. He still worked on the Meridian and would still continue his daily routine. During one of the festivals, he met a dwarf by the name of Farland. He had a beard that almost reached his belt and was bald. The two met over drinks as Farland commented on Charon’s favorite, Swornian Ale. It was a personal favorite of them both and discussed more. When Charon had brought up his father and Coalitions Conflict, Farland recognized it obviously. “Ah yes, the conflict that ended the Holy Orenian Empire.” Charon was confused at this, and inquired. He thought that it had just been made smaller, limited. “Nope, it’s gone my friend.” Charon didn’t have a strong grasp of politics and war, but knew the war had ended. He did not know one side had been completely obliterated. “They killed Algoda and they paid for it. We made sure of that.” Farland continued. Eventually some of Farlands buddies were leaving and called him to join them. “I’ll see ya around if I’m still here,” he told Charon. “Good days to you my friend.” Charon wished him the best and they parted ways. Charon now had one thing one his mind. How big and sophisticated was the world? He had only known his town for so long, now he wanted more. At the age of 20, Charon still took care of his mother and had moved into a new building. He worked multiple jobs to take care of himself and his mother, retaining his job on the Meridian and working at the bars. He still dreamed of seeing more of the world and was also saving up for his own ship. Now one of the biggest questions was now what would her name be? Now he waited for his chance. He just had to wait. He would open his world up soon enough. Possessions Elizabeth, his horse. Charon trained her during his days of wandering around Axios. She is named after the female protagonist from a story from his childhood, The Beast On Land, who had attempted to expose her brother for his crimes against the throne, but she was executed before she could say anything. Charon's lute. Although Charon can play only a couple songs, this lute holds a special place in his heart as it came from his father who went missing during the first Coalition conflict. His favorite song he can play is called Will the Circle Be Unbroken, due it's ability to bring emotion out of others and Charon himself.

Charon had worked on his fathers vessel the Meridian and learned literature from his mother. He began working on the boat at the age of 10 and even learned how to maintain and operate a ship from his father. Charon eventually was able to attend the festivals the town would have by the ports. People would have a great time and Charon would always want to hear the sailors stories. He even was able to meet some people of th other species. Charon began At the age of 11, Charon's father was recruited for the war against the Holy Orenian Empire, led by the Kingdom of Courland. During this time, Charon would visit the library after sailing under captain Garalith as a spotter for schools of fish. At the age of 12 he learned of his father going missing during the war. After the news of his fathers disappearance, Charon's mother was in agony and Charon was depressed. He performed his activities with less enthusiasm, but Garalith, now a friend, comforted him. Giving him assistance and helping to take care of his mother. Eventually he met Farland at the age of 17, a dwarf who told Charon about the war. He said how he and his friends and claimed vengeance for Algoda who had been captured and killed, and also informed Charon of the dissolution of the Holy Orenian Empire. Farland explained the matter to Charon, explaining the intricate politics in a way Charon could understand. At the age of 20 Charon had two jobs in order to take care of himself and his mother. Garalith still assisted them and continued to be the captain of the Meridian. Charon now wished to see the world and saved up for his own ship. All he had to do was wait. Personality Traits: (what are your character's quirks?; habits?; likes and dislikes?) Charon is social, generally happy but is well aware of the dangers of the world. He is interested in history and storytelling, as well as sailing and is saving up for his own ship. He doesn't like big cities and would prefer to stay by the coast. Ambitions: (what does your character aspire to be?) He wishes to have his own crew and learn more about the people who built the ancient ruins scattered around the isles. Strengths/Talents: (what is your character really, really good at?) Good at sailing, reading, writing, and fishing. Weaknesses/Inabilities: (what is a skill that your character needs to work on?) Fighting, Charon isn't a big fighter but thinks it wouldn't hurt to get better. Appearance: (what does your character look like?; how tall are they?; hair color?; scars?) White, eyes are a greyish green, 5ft and 5in, wears a leather jacket and a stripped undershirt. His hair is brown and he is well built.
