  1. STRANGEREAL IN CRISIS World in 2020 The Second Usean Continental War, or more popularly dubbed “Lighthouse War” has finally come to an end. After several months of fighting, the Usean Continent is left devastated for the second time in less than twenty years. Furthermore the world order as a whole remains in a state of chaos, the destruction of most of the Global Satellite Network has resulted in a mass disruption of Communications, GPS, Banking Systems, Television, and Internet access around the world. While the joint assault by Osean and Erusean forces on the Space Elevator prevented further escalation of the disaster, now in its aftermath, world powers must either agree to work together in restoring the old global order. Or choose to set out on their own and secure a new place for themselves in a time of both great chaos, as well as opportunity for those few willing to seize it. Osean Federation Though Osea has emerged the de facto victor in the Lighthouse War, the conflict revealed many cracks within the Federation’s national security. A number of vital military facilities were struck by Erusean drones, Oured the nation’s capital had been attacked twice, and now much of Osea remains under martial law as the country teeters on Economic Recession. Osea’s military is stretched thin due to it’s IUN commitments with a large number of forces deployed around the world. Currently Federation Defense Forces are taking part in peacekeeping operations in Romny, Usea, Estovakia, and Central Osea. Consequently the massive amount of government spending on Military Expansion, Space Exploration, and Social Welfare put in place under the late President Vincent Harling, has accumulated a significant national debt which in turn Osean Citizens are paying for through a sharp increase in their taxes. Furthermore 2020 is also an election year and with the current situation the country finds itself in, it is likely the Federation Government will soon see a major shake up as it reassesses its place on the world stage. Kingdom of Erusea In the aftermath of the Lighthouse War, the Kingdom of Erusea finds itself at a crossroads. While the Provisional Government currently has Osean backing much of the country remains in a state of civil war. Situated in the northeast of the country, the Free Erusea Movement has once again taken up arms against what they view as an Osean puppet government. Joined by remnants of the Radical faction, the group fights to remove the Provisional government from power and install an authoritarian regime to restore stability and stave off foreign influence. The young William Labarthe, son of the now deceased General and Conservative faction leader Edouard Labarthe. Has taken his father’s place as leader of the Conservatives and now leads the Erusean Provisional Government against the forces of both Free Erusea, and that of the breakaway Republic of Voslage. Furthermore a pressing issue dividing the Conservatives is the question regarding the Monarchy. restored not long after the First Continental War, following the events of the recent conflict and subsequent death of the King during the Siege of Farbanti. The Erusean Monarchy is now in a crisis of succession. While the daughter of the late King, Princess Rosa Cossette D’Elise is immensely popular amongst the Erusean people and gained global admiration for her tending to Usean refugees at the Space Elevator, the current laws of succession forbid a female ruler from taking the throne. Legally, the Princess’s distant cousin Richard would be the rightful heir. However at present Richard is still a young boy and in his stead a regency government would need to be established for the foreseeable future. Here the Provisional Government must decide whether or not to change the succession laws and name Princess Rosa as Erusea’s first Queen. Or keep with tradition and crown Richard as it’s next King. There also remains a small but vocal faction within the Conservatives who sympathize and wish to emulate the Democracy of Osea, believing the best course of action would be to restore the Federal Republic and offer a compromise with the radicals and secessionists by granting them a place in the new Republic. Federated States of Usea Since the height of the Osean-Yuktobanian Cold War in the 1980s, the governments of eastern and central Usea have sought greater unity amongst their nations in order to remain relevant in a world increasingly dominated by Superstates. The Ulysses Asteroid Disaster of 1999 brought mass chaos and destruction to Usea, leading to a continent wide refugee crisis and sparking the First Usean Continental War. Though even with the eventual victory of the Independent States Allied Forces over Erusea, the conflict failed to create any lasting sense of unity amongst the Usean states, leading to the dissolution of both the Federation of Central Usea, as well as ISAF in 2012. In the coming years, Osean-led IUN peacekeepers would take on the role of ISAF forces in the region. However the situation Usea found itself in both during and immediately after the Lighthouse War, breathed new life into the Unity Movement. The rapid advance of Erusean troops, the emergence of heavily armed bands of raiders and warlords, combined with a new refugee crisis, created the political environment from which the Federated States of Usea was born. Established as part of the accords which ended the conflict, the Federated States now seeks to assert itself as the regional powerhouse on the Continent. Furthermore the Federated States also wishes to integrate the states of western Usea into the union, though with Gunther Bay falling under IUN occupation and with the future of Erusea uncertain. It is unknown whether or not the Federated States will be able to live up to it’s grand ambition of forging a continent spanning Superstate. Union of Yuktobanian Republics While the Union of Yuktobanian Republics did not actively partake in the events of the Lighthouse War, the country has certainly been greatly affected by it. The downing of major communication networks has resulted in much of the Union’s vast territory falling into anarchy. A number of regional garrisons have reportedly gone rogue and several Republics now contemplate secession from the Union. Efforts to rebuild are further hindered by the country’s current economic crisis caused by decades of mismanagement of industry and commerce by the central government. Much like Osea, Yuktobannia is also bogged down by its commitments to the IUN. Primarily Union forces are focused in the neighboring Emirate of Romny. Here Yuktobannian troops fight alongside their Osean counterparts in a country which has been locked in a bloody civil war for nearly thirty years. Elsewhere Tensions continue to escalate with Yuktobannia’s southern rival, the People’s Republic of Verusa. The two nations are once again at each other's throats over recently discovered reserves of oil and natural gas found beneath Yuktobannia’s borderlands. With the dispute reigniting the Verusan-Yuktobannia border conflict, Now with the Union seemingly in a weakened state Verusa prepares to take the whole of the disputed territories by force. Internally the Politburo and Communist Party of Yuktobannia must decide whether or not to implement the necessary reforms to the economy or keep true to the founding ideals of the Union and carry on as it always has and always will. Principality of Belka The time to strike is now, the world is in chaos, the people of Belka long divided by foreign powers now beg to be brought back into the fold. In the twenty five years since the war, Belka has silently rebuilt its strength and it’s agents have gone abroad in order to weaken its enemies. Now the Lighthouse War has presented the perfect opportunity for Belka to strike out and rise from the ashes of nuclear winter, reasserting itself as a power to be reckoned with. It’s eastern neighbours are weak and this time Osea will not interfere. It may also be in Belka’s interest to strengthen ties with other nations that oppose Osean hegemony. As chaos engulfs the world Belka stands poised to exact vengeance upon her enemies and restore the Belkan Empire to it’s former glory. 3. Tsardom of Russia War with the Ottomans With the Ottoman Sultan refusing his demands, Tsar Ivan VI orders his ambassadors to return from Constantinople and issues a formal declaration of war. Though both the Commonwealth and Holy Roman Empire rejected his offers of alliance against the Turks, nonetheless Tsar Ivan has not been deterred. The Ottomans are an Empire in decline, they will be crushed by the endless legions of the Russian people. Surely the Ottomans cannot hope to hold on to territory so far removed from their Empire proper. With this in mind the Tsar marches south at the helm of fifty thousand men. Tsar Ivan’s son Alexander, has returned to Russia after being summoned by his father. He is to assemble an additional twenty thousand men and link up with the Tsar’s army encamped at Tsaritsyn along the Volga, together they march to Azov. The city of which would be the main objective of Russian forces in the war. As the Russian Army marches on Azov, bands of Cossack raiders are sent forth to sow terror within the populist of the Crimean Khanate. The Cossacks plunder the countryside taking everything that is not nailed down and setting fire to the fields. These attacks prevent the Ottomans from massing any significant force in the Ukraine, leaving the region barren for any army that seeks to march through it. In doing so the Russians force the Turks to meet Tsar Ivan directly at Azov. Return of the Tsarevich and the Prince of Savoy After years of travel the young Tsarevich Alexander has returned to Russia and joined his father in campaign against the Ottoman Turks. However the young Tsarevich has not Returned alone, with him is a young Parisian-Italian nobleman. He was born in France and brought up in the Royal Court, The Tsarevich met him while studying in Paris and the two became friends of like mind and interest, his name is Eugene of Savoy. The previous year, the nineteen year old Eugene had appealed directly to King Louis XIV of France for a military commission though was denied. Once Alexander had gotten word of the outbreak of war between Russia and the Ottoman Empire he easily persuaded his friend to come with him and assured Eugene that he would receive an officers commission with the Russian Army. The young Prince of Savoy quickly proves himself to be a logistical genius, wherever troops under his command go he makes sure they want for nothing in regards to boots, provisions, medical supplies, and ammunition. Eugene also proves to be an incredibly brave soldier leading his men from the front, commanding both infantry and cavalry units. One of the conditions that Eugene had for his service to the Tsar was that he would choose his own subordinate officers. Eugene accepted no officer who had purchased his commission, choosing instead to promote primarily from the rank and file based on merit alone. In battle Eugene served in the vanguard of the Russian army commanding his troops alongside the Tsarevich whos own approach to command would be greatly influenced by his friend. Over the course of the campaign Eugene and Alexander would develop a friendly rivalry between their respective units with the two competing over who could capture more of the enemy’s standards and the loser having to buy a round of drinks for the other’s men. Siege of Azov Arriving at the Fortress of Azov the Russians began to dig in for a long and bloody siege. Knowing that the Ottomans would most likely try and relieve it , the Tsar ordered the construction of a double walled encampment around Azov consisting of trenchworks, sentry towers, and ramparts. Once completed the Russians began a day and night bombardment of the fortress. In order to prevent Turkish supplies and reinforcements from reaching the fortress, the Tsar ordered mines and debris to be dumped into the Don river making it too hazardous for Ottoman forces to relieve Azov by sea. It is for this reason why the Tsar ordered the construction of a double wall, he anticipated the Turks would land a relief force behind the Russian encampment and attempt to trap him in an encirclement. However with the wall protecting his army on all sides, all he need do is simply reinforce whatever section of the walls needed it. Now the Tsar simply waits. Whether he starves out the Ottomans inside of Azov or defeats them in a great battle it does not matter to him, for Tsar Ivan knows that victory in this war is only a matter of time, Russia has it and the Turks do not. Russian Order of Battle Army of Tsar Ivan VI 32,000 infantry split into a main force of 15,000 men and a reserve force of 17,000 men 9,500 Regular Calvary 5,000 Cossacks 2,000 Russian Hussars 250 Cannon with 1,500 Artillerymen Total: 50,000 Army of Tsarevich Alexander 14,000 infantry (6,000 in reserve) 4,000 Regular Calvary 1,200 Cossacks 500 Russian Hussars 50 Cannon with 300 Artillerymen Total: 20,000 Peace in Siberia With peace secured with the Qing, the Tsar can now fully commit to efforts against the Ottomans, though to be safe he raises an additional four thousand men to garrison forts in the Far East, furthermore In a show of good faith Russia does not sign the arms embargo levied against the Qing and even seeks to establish a permanent diplomatic mission in the Imperial city of Peking. The Polish Threat Not long before departing for his campaign against the Ottomans, word reached Tsar Ivan that King John III Sobieski was attempting to rally a coalition against Russia. Enraged by this news he demands the King of Poland-Lithuania immediately sign a nonaggression pact with him. The Tsar also reinforces the defenses along the border with the Commonwealth, ordering regional governors to raise militia to garrison fortresses and be on guard should hostilities with Poland breakout. Actions - Having marched to Azov the Russian Army lays siege to the fortress - Due to the unreliability of most Russian Nobles, the Tsar has raised a number of prominent foreigners to the nobility and given them commissions in the Officer Corps. trusting them to carry out the complete modernization of the army - Cossacks continue to raise hell in the Ukraine in a sort of offensive scorched Earth strategy to prevent Ottoman troop movement in the region - Tsar Ivan requests his ally Karl XI of Sweden send a detachment of troops to reinforce his army in the Azov Campaign - With Poland and the HRE rejecting his alliance, Tsar Ivan reaches out to the Catholic powers of Great Britain, Portugal, and Spain. Offering them a temporary alliance and the chance to take Ottoman territory in North Africa - Russia seeks to strengthen its ties with Brandenburg-Prussia, the trade deal is accepted and furthermore the Tsar offers the hand of one of his daughters in exchange for a lasting alliance. - The Tsar’s emissaries invite Qing military officials to observe the campaign against the Ottomans in order to properly show them how modern wars are fought
  4. Tsardom of Russia Background By the year 1684 Anno Domini, The Rurik Dynasty has ruled a united Russia for over a century. It was they who drove out the Mongol hordes, they who conquered all those who threaten the Russian people, and it is the Ruriks alone whose bloodline descends from that of the last Roman Emperors of Constantinople, making Russia the true and rightful successor to the glory of Rome. Ivan VI inherited Russia from his father, Vasili V upon his death in 1681. He is married to the German princess Sophie Luise of Königsberg and seeks to grow greater ties between Russia and the northern German states. He has fathered four children, his eldest Tsarevich Alexander Ivanovich is seventeen years old and is currently studying abroad in Europe, his two daughters Maria and Euphemia are quickly becoming young women and the Tsar has played with the idea of a marriage alliance to grow Russian influence in the courts of Western Europe. Finally there is the Tsar’s youngest child, Dmitry a boy of only twelve and will have much to learn before he can prove useful to his father. With the devastating defeat inflicted on the Turks at the recent Battle of Vienna, Ivan seeks to strike while the iron is hot and invade Ottoman territories on the Black Sea and secure Russia a warm water port. Furthermore Ivan seeks to grow Russian influence within the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, hoping that one day either Alexander or Dmitry will be elected King and forever secure Russia’s border with Europe. Westernization of Russia Vasili V like his father before him was a staunch defender of Russian culture and traditions, he also recognized that the world was changing. The western powers grew stronger by the day, new lands continued to be discovered and explored, the long standing balance of power was shifting, and as Russia expanded ever eastward they began to come into contact with the militant Qing Dynasty of China who also sought expansion into Siberia. To prepare Russia for the threats it would inevitably face in the future, the Tsar and his son Ivan, built up western style institutions in Russia. Including schools, manufacturers, and a modern civil administration. While the Tsar did not overtly force westernization on his subjects the more they saw him and his family dressed in European clothing, converse with foreign emissaries in their tongue, along with he and the Tsarevich shaving off their beards in favor of a more clean shaven look gave off a strong impression that they better do the same. Though there were also many who rejected westernization and remained opposed to the new order in Russia. With many of them retreating into the rural countryside or migrating east to settle the lands of Siberia far from the perceived corrupting influences of the West. Though despite their worst fears Russian culture was not overtaken by Europe, rather while the aesthetics of Russian society became very European esque. At its core Russia maintained its traditions with a new hybrid culture emerging which would come to mirror that of the early Russian city states with various regions developing their own cultures and identity in accordance with their traditions and whether or not they chose to embrace westernization. Despite the vast distances of the country and the spectrum of ideologies that divide them, the Russian people remain strong in their unity of faith and their allegiance to the Tsar. Military Reforms of Vasili V The reign of Vasili V saw an era of great reforms for the Russian Army. Having witness the events of the Great Religious War in Europe, the Tsar went about inviting veteran officers to his court and having them drill his soldiers in modern tactics with a heavy emphasis on combined arms warfare. The reforms also included the introduction and mass implementation of firearms imported from Germany, The performance of Polish Winged Hussars has greatly influenced Russian heavy cavalry with the Tsar forming his own personal regiment known as the Gusarskaya gvardiya . Cossacks are primarily used as light cavalry specializing in scouting terrain and raiding enemy towns and supply lines. Russian fighting doctrine is much more aggressive than its European counterparts with a resemblance mirroring the Swedish model. Actions - Offers of Alliance are sent to King John III Sobieski and Emperor Leopold I, The Tsar hopes to unite the forces of Russia, Germany, and the Commonwealth to free Eastern Europe from Ottoman rule - A simple ultimatum is sent to the Ottoman Sultan, he is to relinquish his claims to Crimea, Ukraine, and Azov. Should he refuse these territories will be taken by force - The Tsar begins to Mobilize the Russian Army, he calls for 50,000 men to assemble in Moscow - With tensions growing on Russia’s Far East frontier, several new forts are to be constructed around Lake Baikal and a emissary is to be sent to the Qing Emperor’s court in order to resolve the conflict before it can escalate any further

  7. The Empire of Japan Year 13 of the Chikara Era Dealing with Corruption Hiroki does not take kindly to hearing of the mass corruption hampering the colonial reforms. In response the Shogun sends a contingent of the Gaijin Guard to “educate” and make examples of the officials who have been accused of pocketing money from the reforms. Furthermore Hiroki cuts the colonial bureaucracy in half though increases the pay to the remaining administration as to deter them from taking bribes or stealing from the budget. The Gaijian Guard also sets up a network of spies to monitor the bureaucrats and swiftly deliver punishment should they be caught in the act. Due to their inability to manage the reforms both the Daimyos of Mercury and Venus are stripped of their ranks and forced to commit Seppuku for their failure. In their place Hiroki appoints his brothers-in-law, Sato and Rui Yamamoto as the new Daimyos of the colonies, trusting them to Properly oversee the reforms. Realizing the people are concerned with working less hours Hiroki arranges for the Emperor himself to travel to the colonies so that their worries may be put to rest with the assurances of his Majesty and that he would inform them that the reforms are truly in their best interest. Actions As the Empire’s ship building industry begins to approach full modernization, the Shogun lays the groundwork for a major naval arms buildup with the commissioning of a new line of ships for the navy. Construction is to start in late 2935 with the shipyard currently at their disposal and later to include the new ones that are to be completed next year. All ships will be built in collaboration with the German Empire and outfitted with the new efficient engines. The naval buildup is estimated to take at least 4 years though with German aid and advancements in ship building technology Hiroki hopes the project can be completed ahead of schedule. The ships commissioned include • Dreadnoughts +4 • Battlecruisers +7 • Cruisers +10 • Light cruisers +20 • Destroyers +100
  8. The Empire of Japan Year 13 of the Chikara Era Colonial Reforms With Hiroki’s military and economic reforms now well under way, the Shogun seeks to improve the lives of Japanese workers in the colonies. First Hiroki limits the old 14 hour workday down to 11 hours. He then allows for the establishment of workers guilds who can petition their employers for further rights including health benefits, safety regulations, and time off from work. These guilds also elect representatives who travel to Earth and are given seats in the House of Representatives in doing this it ensures each guild’s own grievances can be heard on a national stage and from here they can petition the Shogun directly on pressing matters affecting the people of the colonies. To help raise the colonists out of poverty, Hiroki introduces a net negative income tax where those who make less than the minimal income of 500,000 yen a year receive half of what they did not make back in order to help them in getting into a more financially stable situation and afford to grow the economy further through economic activity via going on vacation and buying up consumer goods. The same grants and subsidies used to expand Japanese industry are also extended to architectural companies as part of Hiroki’s urban renewal projects on Venus and Mercury hoping to both improve the living conditions of the colonists and encourage more immigration to the colonies. Streets of the Japaneses Colony of Atarashi, Venus Actions To display the combined might of their militaries to the other great powers, a joint naval exercise is proposed between Japan, Germany, and China scheduled for late next year should the other powers choose to take part. The Japanese Empire agrees to aid the French Empire in eradicating the scourge of piracy from the major trade routes. Japan will henceforth share intelligence with French naval vessels regarding the location of known pirate activity and expects the French to do the same with their own intelligence. The trade agreement with the United States is accepted as Japan seeks to mend ties with it’s long time rival in the Pacific. Now Hiroki wishes to put aside past discretions and develop a friendly relationship with the American Republic. Hiroki even proposes a state visit to meet with President Huey Long XXV in person, making him the first Shogun to visit the country in centuries.
  9. The Empire of Japan Year 12 of the Chikara Era Military Reforms Hiroki uses the wealth taken from the House of Oda to sponsor the military careers of a new generation of promising young officers from the minor nobility and middle class. Furthermore Hiroki’s reforms prioritize merit based promotion over noble background. To oversee these reforms the Shogun places his father-in-law, the veteran naval commander Isao Yamamoto as the new Minister of War. Having come from humble beginnings himself and earning his family’s noble titles through a long distinguished military career, made Isao both a living legend and a man uniquely qualified for the position. Joining the incoming class at the Imperial Japanese Naval Academy is Hiroki’s younger sister Akina Katou who has entered the Academy as a regular cadet and wishes to aid her brother by serving as an officer in the navy. Class of Japanese Officer cadets standing at attention in ceremonial dress Anti-Piracy Campaign The Japanese Empire intends to ruthlessly protect it’s trade routes and merchant ships. Harsh punishments are put in place for captured and suspected pirates including torture, mutilation, and public execution. The Imperial Navy also formulates a plan to lead pirates into a trap. Leaking the manifestos of specific merchant ships to encourage pirates to attack them. In reality these ships are disguised naval vessels and as soon as the pirates begin their attack they quickly meet fierce resistance and shortly there after find themselves surrounded by the Navy. Hiroki also recognizes and somewhat admires the skill of some pirates and offers them a choice, serve the Japanese Empire as their privateers and be rewarded with estates as well as being allowed to keep the wealth they plunder from foreign vessels, or simply die in a public and very painful execution. IJN Space Battleship Tōgō sets off for Anti-Piracy operations along the Empire’s main trade routes Actions Hiroki seeks to mediate the escalating conflict between Italy and the Turks. He proposes that the contested territory be placed under international control and that both Ottoman and Italian trade companies be given priority over the resources of their respective sectors. With Japan and Germany formalizing their new alliance. Hiroki proposes a joint Scientific venture with both empires working together in order to develop more efficient engines for their ships. The esteemed scientist and engineer Dr. Nobu Takahashi, a well respected member of the scientific community, is sent by Hiroki to Head the Japanese effort in the project. The Japanese Empire accepts the Defensive Alliance with Nationalist China. An Officer’s exchange program is also proposed between the two nations.
  10. The Empire of Japan Year 12 of the Chikara Era With the death of the old Shogun the great houses of the Japanese Empire were once again at each other’s throats. Emerging from the bloodbath was the former Shogun’s 19 year old son Hiroki Katou. A promising youth with a keen intellect and ruthless determination to both advance the interest of his nation as well as protect his family and loved ones from the plotting of the rival houses. Underestimated due to his age no one expected him to succeed his father much less survive the transition of power. However In the aftermath of the Shogun’s death, Hiroki quickly paid off the elite Gaijin Guard to wipe out the House of Oda, who themselves were poised to seize power. In an event that sent shock waves throughout imperial society, the House of Oda was left near extinct with Hiroki only sparing the women and young children, who would all be married off or sent into the care of clans loyal to the House of Katou. With one of the empire’s ancient and most prestigious clans being decimated in a single night, an example was sent to all other clans. This along with Hiroki allying with the respected House of Yamamoto through a marriage pact secured him all the support required to become the new Shogun, with a unanimous vote in the House of Peers. History The reborn Empire of Japan emerged in the early 22nd century following. The collapse of the old People’s Republic of China and withdraw of American military personnel from East Asia, leaving the island nation of Japan to once again look to it’s own defenses. For nearly 300 years prior Japan had been disarmed and rendered effectively an American vassal state following it’s defeat in the Second World War. Though technologically advanced with a strong economy to support it, the nature of Japan’s American imposed constitution left the country with only a minor Self Defense Force with heavy regulations restricting it’s build up and combat effectiveness. Surrounded by hostile neighbors it was this foreign constitution that would be one of the first to go. The Reo Constitution named in honor of the reigning Emperor was in almost every aspect a return to the old Meiji Constitution of the first Imperial Era. Over the next 700 years the Japanese Empire would once again rise to great power status. With the advent of a new age of colonization, Japan was eager not to miss out on it’s endless possibilities thus beginning the Empire’s expansion into the stars. Government The Empire is a Parliamentary Monarchy with a bicameral legislature consisting of an upper house, The House of Peers, and lower house, The House of Representatives. Officially these two chambers make up the National Diet where new legislation is debated on and voted in through a democratic process involving both chambers. However in reality it is the House of Peers who holds true power in regards to policy making. With the House of Representatives existing more for show as to appease the public demand for political representation in the government. The House of Peers is made up entirely of the Empire’s great houses who’s most important role is to elect the Shogun. A figure with immense political and military powers who acts as both Head of the Government as well as Supreme Commander of the imperial armed forces. The Shogun is chosen from amongst the ranks of the great houses and for over a century has remained in the hands of House Katou. The House of Representatives is made up of elected officials from across the empire who come to voice their grievances and hope to win the support of a noble house for their cause. In accordance with the Constitutional Reform Act of 2236, a Bill must first be presented in the House of Representatives before it can be voted on in the House of Peers. However it is the House of Peers and more specifically the Shogun, who decides which piece of legislation is worthy of attention. There for any member of the House of Representatives who seeks to successfully pass legislation, must first win over a member of the House of Peers who in turn must also be in the good graces of the Shogun. Final approval of all legislation comes from the Emperor himself who while holding veto power will rarely exercise it. Acting more as the spiritual leader of the nation and deferring to the judgment of the Shogun in affairs of state. Military Being somewhat at a disadvantage from the other great powers of the Solar System, the Japanese Empire has adopted an indirect doctrine for the Imperial Navy. Learning from the lessons of the Second World War, and from more recent conflicts between other powers, the Japanese Navy does not seek an open confrontation with an opposing fleet. Instead they plan to engage the enemy with long range railguns directed by smaller scout ships. The Imperial Navy also puts a strong emphasis on raiding enemy supply lines as well as reinforcing their own through a large merchant fleet. What the Japanese Empire lacks in large scale Dreadnoughts and battlecruisers it more than makes up for in ship based attack spacecrafts, dubbed “Zero Suits”. These humanoid spacecrafts prove much more maneuverable in the vacuum of space as well as there versatility being able to operate a number of different weapon systems. Another advantage of Zero Suits come in the form of it’s onboard artificial intelligence which when engaged in combat wrecks havoc on enemy radar, communication, and targeting systems making it extremely difficult for the enemy to engage the Zero Suits and coordinate with their own forces. On land the Japanese army is modeled similarly to the armies of both it’s medieval and early imperial past. Nobles piloting advanced battlemechs command legions of lesser mechs and their own personal retinue of conventional forces. On the battlefield these battlemechs strike fear into the hearts of the opposing force many of whom will often lose heart and retreat or surrender outright. Imperial soldiers are conditioned not to fear death as to die for the Emperor is the noblest death of all. Many Japanese soldiers will charge straight into enemy fire some will even continue to charge after losing limbs. Others will strap bombs to their chests and blow themselves up beneath enemy tanks. These tactics while viewed largely as barbaric by most, serves the empire well in matters of psychological warfare installing a sense of dread amongst the enemy. The doctrine of the Imperial Army is to completely overwhelm the enemy both mentally and physically through it’s towering battlemechs, unrelenting firepower, and utter fanaticism of it’s soldiers in the face of certain death. All these factors combine make the Imperial Japanese Army truly a force to be feared and reckoned with. Actions With his dominance over the great houses secured Hiroki will now seek to popularize himself with the masses of the Empire. Allowing for greater merit based social mobility. An Offer of a military alliance is presented to the German Ambassador A delegation of Japanese diplomats and military officials travel to the United States with the goal of purchasing 2 of the U.S. Navy’s older Drenoughts Hiroki seeks to incentivize the growth of the Empire’s ship building Industry by issuing imperial subsidies and tax exemptions to various promising manufacturers Construction is set to begin next year on 3 new Dreadnoughts at various spaceports across the empire. In order to help build these vessels the Japanese Empire reaches out to Germany for assistance
