  1. Minecraft name: w1lll Forum name: w1llll What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why? 1] Spelling and Grammar Whilst it does not take as much effort as some of the other areas of the application, it is usually the first thing that one notices when reading through an application. If spelling and grammar is of a high quality, then it shows that the individual has checked the application, instead of simply posting it. Even simply feeding the application through a spell checker shows that the applicant is willing to make some extra effort. This also encompasses the answer to the question regarding the applicant's grasp of the English language. If the answer to that question is contradictory to the grammar shown within the application, then it shows immaturity. 2] Biography As this is a rather lengthy field, I shall split my answer into two parts. I] Knowledge of the lore Showing knowledge of the lore is a good characteristic of an application, as it shows that the applicant has bothered to read through the approved lore, such as that on the wiki. Again, this is a sign that the individual is willing to put in extra effort, as well as showing maturity. Conversely, somebody whose application directly contradicts commonly known lore, then it shows that they have not taken the time to read over the wiki. However, people who use information from the wiki that is obsolete should not be penalised for this. Lack of knowledge of the lore also includes having parents killed by Orcs, as this is unoriginal. II] Powergaming There is a slight overlap between these sections, but powergaming is an important factor. Should somebody claim to be related to Iblees, for example (as I noticed in an app I read through), then they are almost certain to be denied. On the other hand, a well considered character with strengths and weaknesses is more likely to be accepted. 3] Favourite and least favourite laws When somebody replies to the law question with their least favourite law being "no griefing", then it is a sign that they are not mature enough to join the server, and the kinds of applications that state that law as their least favourite are often the type with four sentence biographies, or biographies stuffed full of powergaming and contradictions to the lore. 4] Short character ability questions The answers to these can often say quite a lot about the player who has written the application. Should the answer to all four of the questions simply be "yes", with no qualifiers or grammar, then the player is often likely to misunderstand attributes that characters should have. No character should be a master of all trades. On the other hand, if a character has ability in one or two skills, and limited or no ability in the others, then it shows that the writer of the application has considered how they can balance their character. 5] Character personality/ambitions The answer to this can make or break an application. Simple, one word answers are again a sign of immaturity and lack of commitment to the server. Conversely, long, detailed and logical answers are a sign that the applicant is willing to make an effort on the server (having gone to so much trouble just to get in).
  2. I am unable to participate in said tourney, but I should like to attend the arena and watch the event if tickets are to be sold.
  3. The wiki is your friend: http://lordofthecraft.net/wiki/index.php/Stats AFAIK, requirements haven't changed much.

  5. ((I know, it was his attitude about the war that irked me, not the reference itself))
  6. How appropriate, particularly this close to Remembrance Sunday.
  7. ((Actually, that is not really the case. For example, the Victoria Cross is awarded for "most conspicuous bravery, or some daring or pre-eminent act of valour or self-sacrifice, or extreme devotion to duty in the presence of the enemy." Devotion to duty normally means following orders, not running off to save people, which could put others in danger.)) ((In contrast to your "real life examples", there is the battle of the Somme. The Germans were aware of the attacks due to artillery barrages, the German wire failed to be cut by the bombardment, and fortifications were largely undamaged, yet the attack continued, with catastrophic consequences.))
  8. ((Just to clarify, Vikram was the one whom the guards hated, not any character played by darkjames. From what I've seen, darkjames' new character is a vast improvement over the others, and I believe he would make a good guard.)) The High Constable will check over the applications ((every Sunday)), and then will inform you whether you have been accepted or not.
  9. ((The privy seal is the personal seal of the monarch, which is carried around by them. It is of lesser importance than the Great Seal of the Realm, which is looked after by the Chancellor. Lord Privy Seal is responsible for the monarch's personal seal))
  10. Are you in need of any wheat suppliers? EDIT: I can also supply a small amount of cobblestone if you wish.
  11. Broker, I may have need of your... services, but I would like to discuss this somewhere more private.
  12. Where's the best place to sell Melon Slices, Wheat and Sugar Cane? What's the average price for those three?
  13. Name: Oren_Sgt._Thaern MC Username: w1lll Location: Doesn't seem to be part of a region any more, co-ords: X: -145 Z: 138 Proof: The house with my name on the front and lockette signs in:
  14. I have in my possession a number of stacks of melon slices, as well as slightly fewer stacks of wheat, and a little sugar cane. Prices: Melon Slices: 30 Minas/Stack Wheat: 60 Minas/Stack Sugar Cane: 100 Minas/Stack These prices are open to negotiation. Send me a letter ((Forum PM)), raven ((/tell w1lll)), or post a note below this ((Reply to topic)) to contact me
  15. I have 30 ingots, and would be willing to sell them to you at that price. ((Contact me IG, (w1lll), I should be on later today.))
  16. *Signs in the space below the note* ((GMT, 7-9PM ish would probably be best. (Thursday)))
  17. I must say, this store is really good value for iron ingots. I have just purchased two stacks from there.
  18. If you have any iron, I would like to purchase two stacks for 3,100 Minas, which is just under 25 minas per bar. Send me a letter ((forum PM)) or raven ((/tell w1lll)) if you would like to do business.
  19. Where abouts is this shop of yours, and what are your rates?
  20. The size I would like is dependent on the cost of farmland. For example, how much would a 15x15 plot be? Which direction from Al'Khazar is the land?
  21. I'm looking to purchase some farmland around Al'Khazar. Send me a letter ((PM)) or raven ((/tell w1lll)) should you have any or know of any land for sale. Thanks.
  22. 1) Human, Northerner. 2) Oren. 3) Capital, Alkhazar.
