  1. Yes, in fact for people we are close or friends with, its preferred that we reference rather than accept.

Friend or not we can still deny. As a good friend of mine IRL found out! :D

  2. After the work that the GMs put into restoring that forest, I doubt they are going to allow it to be damaged again. Even Malinor isn't even oocly permitted to do anything there.
  3. Well I spoke to Native about it months ago, and he said it was up to the individual characters/player to take the myth and use it how they wish. I remember RPing with an orc who acted like a gentleman (spoke in proper common and all that) and whenever he lost his temper, he 'blamed' it on the curse.

  4. Most of them double as guards/military and are focused on that part.

  5. I'm glad you're having fun at least with it. Thats the entire reason behind it. As long as the players are staying IC, its all good though :)

Sythie's fun to play. She's usually pretty reasonable and caring. But a switch gets flipped when she feels insulted. But that might be because she's 145 and a youngling :D

First Dark Elf on the council and the you...

  6. Basically this isn't the forum for it. This isn't something that needs GM assistance which means you can just RPly go and do it. My recommendation is to round up the populace and revolt. I don't think a revolt would necessarily need a warclaim if they are using RP to fight. If the people outnumber the Ordinators and manage to capture a bunch and then either throw them out or execute them, then they might just be able to take hold. I think this was actually done in Oren back in Aegis. If that doesn't work, the people can merely choose a new leader and follow them and just simply ignore the Ordinators. If they try to commit atrocities, they'll see another visit from outside nations :P
  7. 9/10 When you're gone.. everyone's asking about you :P
  8. ((While the Blood Elves were my favorite Race in Warcraft 3 and World of Warcraft... lets keep them there. At least change the name a bit. Also in they wouldn't call themselves 'Blood Elves' even the blood elves in WoW called themselves something different and within their language))
  9. I believe it is now Prince Bircalin that manages the Vanguard. I just haven't gotten around to making a post yet. Applicantions will need to be approved by either him or one of the Officers of the Vanguard (Magistrate or Sylvan Guardian). As far as I know that would be Bircalin (Crippledbaboon), Seth(Mr_SneakyFace), or Ashur(Cosmik).
  10. Outstanding application Repiteo, though you are missing one little thing. I would request that you reread the Original Post thoroughly so that you get the instruction that you missed. Make the small edit to your application and send me a forum PM when you have done so.
  11. Longbow5, still need a bit of work on the bio. Your character isn't really telling why he wishes to join and what he intends to do for the Vanguard. You also need to read up on the Original Post as you're missing something else. Make the edits to your post (don't need to post a new one), and PM me once you've done so. Deakin, everything looks good, but I need you to read through the Original Post thoroughly one more time. You're still missing something. Read up on what that is, edit the post and PM me once you've completed it. I'll give you further instructions from there. Varstivus, need you to look into that bio. The IC portion of the application is what your character is actually writing. So it would need to be from the first person perspective. Also read up on the rules thoroughly as you too are missing something that's important. PM me when you make the edit to your post and I'll give you more instructions.
  12. Deakin and ShadowoKing, read through the original post again, you all missed quite a few instructions.
  13. Do we have words for family? Mother Father Sister Brother Daughter Son
  14. OOC- If you're not applying, you're trolling, please stop.
  15. Brinjolf, Dalmin, and Amrud. Your applications are a week old (or more) and you have not contacted my character ingame. Please send me a PM about the condition of your applications. After a set time you will need to re-apply.
  16. The Barracks is located down the left road as you enter Laurelin, across the street from the Gauntlet. Basically the first building on the left past Cralter's Shop.
  17. Yes go ahead and apply if you would. Indicate you are an engineer in the Other Skills section. Its my understanding that the Wardens will help augment the Vanguard if needed and vice versa. I'd prefer for a Sentinel or Sylvan Warder to manage as a quartermaster, but if personnel seems a bit short, then I might need your services.
  18. ((Things move so fast because.. well we're elves, we get stuff done :) the chaos should lessen a bit. But thats the glory of this world, its fluid and can change in an instant. It can be hard to follow, but its a living breathing world and I love it ))
  19. Already ahead of you. Laurelin Vanguard, the sect of the Military Native created is under the guidance of the Grand Highborn. One of the main issues was that the Warden Base is so far away. Now the elven military will have a small but closer presence in Laurelin. Malcontents beware!
  20. Overview: Laurelin Vanguard is the official guard of Laurelin. The Vanguard is responsible for protecting Laurelin from outside threats. The Vanguard is currently headquartered in the center of the Capitol city of Laurelin. High Prince Native constructed a barracks as a base of operations and supplies. It is expanding fast as more elves and allies flock to the defense of their homeland. All races and walks of life are welcome in the Vanguard. Rank and Structure: High Prince - The current High Prince is the Commander-in-Chief of all forces (Vanguards, Wardens, and various other sects) Prince/Princess - There is a designated Prince or Princess of Malinor that oversees the operation of domestic affairs that the Vanguard is responsible for. Magistrate/Magistrix - Commands the Laurelin Vanguard. The Magistrate/Magistrix answers only to the Council and the High Prince. Sylvan Warder - Assists and aids the Magistrate/Magistrix. Depending on the size of the Vanguard there could be 1 to 2 of these or more if it grows larger. The Sylvan Guardians take command when the Magistrate/Magistrix is absent, missing, or incapacitated. Sentinel - These are the regular officers of the Vanguard. They manage the every day affairs of the Vanguard such as wages, personnel, materials, and equipment. These officers can manage and command small squads during time of crisis or war. Watchman - The trainers, the standard of discipline, and the focus of the Vanguard. These brave guardsmen are veterans that imbue their knowledge into the newer members. They enforce the standards of the Vanguard and correctively retrain those members that stray. (Think Non-Commissioned Officer) Guardian - Full fledged members and battle hardened elves of the Vanguard. These warriors possess great skill and courage and are ready to inflict the wrath of Malin's Children upon all that threaten Laurelin. Scout - New recruits to the Vanguard. The bravest members of elven society, these new members of the Vanguard have taken up arms for the defense of their families, their culture, and their sacred homeland. Malin bless these courageous individuals. Duties: Laurelin Vanguard has a sacred duty to protect the city and its inhabitants from all dangers to the city of Laurelin. We will offer protection and aid to any that require it. In a time of crisis, war, or invasion, it is the duty of the Vanguard to quickly respond to the threat and hold it until reinforced by the Wardens and other sects of the Elven Military. The Vanguard acts as a city guard for the Holy City of Laurelin. Arrests can be made by Vanguard members against those that commit criminal acts or profanely cause disorder in the city. These individuals will be confined in the barracks until a Prince or Princess of Malinor, or one of their representatives can recommend sentencing. They will then be transported to the Prison in the southern part of the city. The Vanguard can also serve as a reserve component to the Wardens and our Allied Militaries. Vanguard Creed: Regulations: Insubordination - This is defined as directly violating a valid order of a superior. This includes failure to obey a valid order, and dereliction of duty. Depending on the order violated or ignored, this could result in demotion, extra-labor, or removal from the Vanguard. Assault - Striking a member of the Vanguard, an innocent Citizen of Malinor, or an innocent visitor of another nation is considered Assault. Depending on the severity, such as if weapons were used or not, if lethal intent was involved, or the station of the victim (citizen, officer, or nobility). Punishment could result in demotion, extra-labor, removal from the Vanguard, as well as any civil punishments the Elven Council may decide in addition. Undead are not considered innocent and should be treated as monsters.* Theft and Wrongful Appropriation - Stealing anything from the Vanguard, member of the Vanguard, or anyone else is not permitted. The Vanguard does not harbor thieves and brigands. Punishments can involve demotion, extra-labor, or removal from the Vanguard. Spoils taken from the enemy in time of war will be property of the Vanguard to be distributed as a senior officer, Grand Highborn or High Prince sees fit. Harassment - At no point will a Vanguard search, seize, or question an individual without their consent. The children of Malinor will enjoy the rights of freedom. Only by the orders of the Council (High Prince and Princess/ess) will we detain anyone for questioning or confinement. Malinor will NOT live under a tyrannical rule. Punishments include demotions, extra-labor, or removal from the Vanguard depending on the severity of the offense. General Article - All disorders and neglects to the prejudice of good order and discipline in the Vanguard. This includes bringing discredit to the Vanguard, as well as civil crimes within Laurelin. Punishment depends on the severity of the offense. Punishments: Demotion - Includes being dropped by one, more, or all grades, depending on the severity of the offense. Extra Labor - Involves completing tasks such as gathering materials for the Vanguard IN ADDITION to their normal duties. The task will depend on the severity of the offense. Removal from the Vanguard - Permanent removal from the Vanguard. Grave offenses may incur this. Confinement - Serious offenses can result in confinement. Usually accomanied by other punishments (removal, extra labor, ect.). OOC Information: All rules of LotC will be strictly adhered to in the Vanguard. Being in the Vanguard involves much Role-Play, rather then just fighting. We accept many individuals, even non-combatants to help with the efforts, as maintaining a military is a large affair. * "Undead are not consider innocent and should be treated as monsters" This does NOT give you the right to No-RP Kill. You must still enter a dialogue with the player before attacking or engaging in hostile actions. They are players too and will be treated with the respect and dignity that they deserve. During war, city defense, or other such events, Vanguard members should prefix their names with LV_ as this will help identify them in large scale RP events. Officers (Sentinels, Sylvan Warders, and the Magistrate/Magistrix will display their rank instead). Promotions are based on Role-playing ability as well as seniority to a lesser degree. Being the best fighter will not get you rank as fast as showing an ability in Leadership both ICly and OOCly. Finally, being a Laurelin Vanguard means you are here to RP, not merely kill stuff. There's been a constant problem with replying OOCly to IC speech. This will stop. Make sure you know the difference between IC and OOC speech and respond accordingly. Ideally I'd like to see OOC speech in the RP channel cut to a minimum. /t is acceptable for OOC as long as you indicate it is RP. Since you all have approved server applications I'm expecting one of a few things: 1. Have a clear understanding of the English language. And can form coherent sentences. 2. Have a clear understanding of Role-play. Know how to respond ICly to IC speech and OOCly to OOC speech. 3. Know the Rules of Roleplay. We haven't had a problem with this, but I absolutely do not wish to see Metagaming, Powergaming, or Mary Sueing. If you don't know what those things are, you shouldn't have a server app, much less a guild app. 4. Know the lore of Aegis to a basic degree. Dark elves are not drow, orcs are not Greenskins from Warhammer. Also know this, you will be functioning as a guard of Laurelin for the most part. This means the standard of RP is a bit higher then normal for the server. You will be given a certain level of authority to enforce IC laws. Because of this the Vanguard will only accept quality RPers. To give you an idea of how strict this standard is, I've personally been Role-playing in an online environment for the last eleven years. (Please put "Malin's Blessing" after the Vanguard Creed to show you've read this) I don't expect everyone to have the same experience as I do, but if LotC is your first RP experience, I don't recommend applying. Application: To join the Laurelin Vanguard we need some information about you. The IC section will be as if your character is writing it, this will be the application your character is submitting themselves, so answer accordingly. OOC: MCName: (Case sensitive) Forum Name: (Case sensitive, this should match what you're posting as) Timezone: (In Relation to GMT, such as EST being -5 GMT) Time spent weekly on LotC: (Be honest!) Make it look neat and tidy so we can read it! Not using this format risks your application being skipped. 21. Hmm maybe we should consider a Blue to Green program (Airforce to Army)
  22. I've actually come up with an idea that would make sense. With the uncovering of the ancient tongue, it would make sense for a simpler form of elvish would be derived. This would be what the modern elves would use in everyday speech when not speaking in common. The formal and complex language would be Ancient Elvish, and the everyday usable language would be Modern Elvish. The difference would be like comparing Middle English to Modern English. It would have a set of simplified root nouns and verbs that could easily be memorized and used by elves that wish to. Or at the very least, use it to reference people, places, and things. We're still going to mostly speak common just to be able to converse with non-elves, but there's no reason not to call subraces by their elven derivations. Its much better to call a dark elf a Mali'Ker then just Dark Elf. Or a Wood Elf, Mali'Ame instead. Besides I see a simpler form of elvish being used anyway by the people that use it. Kind of like slang, acronyms, references, and even net/textspeak are IRL. -Edit: Actually been going over this with a friend of mine and an even simpler way then I suggested in the above paragraphs would be to work something out sort of like Spanglish. It was a thing I used to do whenever I used the drow language in other RP games. Use the words you know, replace the ones you don't with common (english). Trying to make two languages off the bat would be a horrendous undertaking. Just need some reference material ingame (books and libraries) to aid in it. Already ICly over the last few days my character and another have been building small libraries. Though the two haven't gotten together to combine their knowledge yet lol. So its being documented in two different ways. Which could be interesting in itself.
  23. Just a FYI, elves can live up to 4000 years, if one elf who lived that long spoke to an ancestor in his youth that was about that old, said elf has almost 8000 years of knowledge or at least knowledge that could possibly be 8000 years old It would be akin to me speaking to a great aunt about the 1920's. I wasn't there, but I'm getting a first hand recollection. So even if documents are lost, elves would have word of mouth to fall back on. Thats something to consider when determining how 'lost' this language is. How far back does Aegis truely go? Also it was said that we are trying to proliferate the language as much as possible, yet you're trying to make it harder on others to figure out. Not everyone is as clever as you are when it comes to linguistics, but they shouldn't be penalized for it by having their characters not know. Think of it as unmeta-gaming. Where the characters know something the player doesn't. Which quite frankly, our characters do know alot more then we do. For example, I doubt most of us can swing a sword. But our character might. Just like some of us aren't good at learning langauges, but our characters might. As for the difficulty of reverse sorting the words, its as simple as clicking a button in Word 2010. Maybe even Open Office. I'll see what I can come up with.
