Exactly. When I got at the top I actually sat down, started my little gas fire and ate some Heinz Tomato beans. ;)

(Wish was like heaven because that can of beans was like 400grams on my back!.)

  2. @animu
Because my post got ruined by the forum bug.

Here are, actually, some tips (From my very-very small amount of experience.):

    - Depending on your face and the depth of your eyes (eyesockets) keep your head slightly tilted upwards so that there is some light illuminating these dark holes. ;3

    - Never place yourself at the center of the picture this causes several things:
    A. If it's a nice picture it'll make you look egocentric and full of yourself.
    B. If it's a bad picture.. it'll remain bad.
    C. It'l turn your picture static.

-> Divide your screen in 3 parts. -> [  I  I  ]  Try to see what works best for you but the general rule for a selfy is to stick to one of the two lines. This'll make the picture more dynamic.
AKA: Just don't center stuff, it's just no-no.

    - And just be yourself; imo some people think those pics are bad.. some like them. The main thing is that I like them and I know that's still me. ;3

    - And acting is fine.. it's not weird. Everyone does it. Don't believe those (wo)men who say they're 'happy' eating salad! They're also just acting.. bloody MacDonals eating devils!

Advanced: My pictures were taken with a phone and it's not an expensive phone. If you've got the options on your phone/photo-taker-thingy.. try to play some with the ISO, SAT. ( Google it. ) It goes a long way and it's better than needing photoshop afterwards.

    @Esry Exactly! ;3

    @Manatee Premium gel from nature.
@Animu Well none of these are Selfies.. so. And the last one was taken for a site. But uhm.. idk, be yourself? :D (Also not sure if troll question or not. ;3)
But yeah; I always tried to look funny/weird/etc etc.. and the result where totally unnatural pictures and pictures that just had an uncomfy air around them.
So just be yourself? I mean; 'everyone' has something cool about themselves.. just use that?
( For me I'm like this weird doofus.. idk. And I take pictures with good backgrounds to make pictures look better. ;D )

PS: If I had to give a tip, please... just ask someone to take a picture. ;D Quality over 9000!

  5. I would quite like to be a part of this little group; if still possible.

I've been among some of the earlier Villains in this server, I assume? Starting out around Aegis as a little worthless scrub that was horrid at roleplay. And I've learned all the way (Thanks Ever) till where I ended somewhere two years ago. Around the time that I quit I had one of the bigger cults, around 20 people permanently active. And about double that joined in now and then.

Never had a comment nor a ban on roleplay related matters. And I think; If nobody went crazy on the Villain applications, that I still hold one of the larger ones. ( I was horribly elitist back in the day, rest assured I passed that part of puberty by now. )

Regardless; I think I have a fair grasp on what Villain rp should be like. I do however have a tendancy to be rather gory. (The ToS were changed in relation to some of my topics; If I am not mistaken. )

I seek to actively work on the Villainy of LotC and will soon be actively role playing amongst you all again. Villainy has always been my major interest because I heavily believe that there is simply a need for evil within any sort of world. (Role-play ones especially.)
( No light without shadows )

I also consistently manage to create threads without any flame, etc - since my return.

And rule 3, on the new Villain rules was my little idea. ( As a point of showing it is a topic that truly interests me and I enjoy thinkering about it. Along with some of the other issues in LotC. Whom I am already talking about with some. )

Well past polls we've done indicated that the server didn't want players to be able to lockpick their chests! However when we took the community's opinion on Heists, it generally had a good response.

I think limiting lockpicking of chests to heists is a horrible idea.
I do think heists could be a thing, however I think it would be much more logical when a heist would be done on a Bank of some sort.

As such I think all chests should be able to be lockpicked. Solutions to this can easily be found in roleplay.
And people or cities can easily start up big banks to protect everyone'chest.

If you can get into some home; there shouldn't be some magical rule-barrier preventing you from looting it.

  7. This is going to be a really shitty post but. And do mind; this is all stereotyping.

1: People are not putting an effort in their Villain rp.

There used to be this thing where you actually had to work to get Villain rights. It took an effort, was it hard? No, not at all. It simply took an effort and a well thought out character.

The quality of villain rp has been on a steady decline ever since the removal of Villain Applications.

And I honestly am baffled that while everyone sees this. And everyone is noddig their heads "Oh, villain rp so bad." None actually supports the idea of reintroducing the one thing that stopped all of these issues.
You've tried giving everyone the permission to be a villain; it clearly didn't work out.

So why not revert the change and start up: New Villain Applications.

Yes, I know it'd be shitty to write those applications out again. But wait, there's more! (Input cheesy salesline.)

    The Solution!

How to introduce New Villain Applications:

Nobody has to make a Villain Application. Yes, you read that right. No villain applications for anyone!
Unless you get: Reported, Banned, Blacklisted, Strike reported, Warned, Lackluster rp, ... (The Staff can set these rules out.)

    So what does this means?

Everyone can play as a Villain. Nobody is restricted in their actions. However once you've been reported and found guilty you actually have to make a Villain application.
We are not talking about an Appeal here, we're talking about a legit Villain Application.

I have this hobby of skimming through the bans and appeals, let me tell you. They're '******' zero effort.
So rather than having this 'formality' because that's what it is. The Appeal is simply a formality.

Rather than having this formality, you actually get really punished. Or rather you have to show the staff you're capable of playing as a Villain. You'll have to write a Villain application.

What does this means and how will it impact me as a player:

This will have no impact on you if:
    You are a regular player.
You are a white knight, guard, ... and act in good nature.
You are a villain and roleplay properly.

    This will impact you if:
You are a villain and are horrible at roleplay.

You are a villain and always force PvP.

    End.

  8. Frankly it should of never gotten on the server like so many other things. And as it stands now; it is on the server and most likely will remain like that.
However I do think the staff (or the community as a whole) needs to make a rule or statement around this. Because honestly we might just see Nazism as the next step. (And no I'm not comparing islam and nazis to eachother, nor putting them in the same box.) There simply has to be a line that we all can agree upon; not to cross.

I see why you bring the magic point up, there indeed isn't any other way to act besides through rp.

It's a pity that bandit rp is subpar (in most cases). So either improve the bandit' side of rp.. or take away the incentive for banditry in the first place.
Though truth be told I'm not a fan of the latter one it would by far be the easiest way. Though with the downside of losing rp and a sense of fear on the streets.

Perhaps it'd really be worth to start up another thread centered around Bandit-role play. Who knows what'll come from that!

PS: Thanks for your time and input.

I'm not completely sure, but there are certainly a lot of bandits out there, and most of it is bad RP, from my experience. Just, vaguely unenjoyable. I'd enjoy it if it was engaging, but it's... not.

That is a pity. Perhaps there's a way to create a more enjoyable experience for both parties in that case. After all everyone joins this server with the main goal of engaging in roleplay.
( Possibly an idea for a future thread! ;) )

only good solo villian rp I ever see is a good dark mage who knows how to rp. Everything else with bandits and what not are literally pvp, from all the years I've been here. Used to be some good villians that didnt need dark magic but that was waaaay back when.

Bandits are PvP? Considering they are the assaulting party, the defender has the right to call for pure RP at any time. Or am I reading these rules wrongly?

( The Rules: Combat Rules - Defender Default )

    Quote

    Defender Default

When combat takes place, the choice of using Roleplay or PvP is given in determining how the combat will go down. The defender is always the one who has the choice to decide how the combat is played out.

If the players involved in the combat scenario are 8 or more, PvP will automatically be initiated to quickly settle the dispute.

The player who initiates the combat will automatically be labelled the 'instigator'. The person they are attacking is the 'defender', and may choose the combat method.

Guards are always considered 'defenders' if the person they are combating has broken one of the following crimes:

    • Physical Assault
    • Thievery
    • Trespassing
    • Treason

Refer to this page if there are any confusions:

I've never done villain RP, yet I've seen a lot of it around the server. I think the biggest issue for solo-villain RP, and the lack of it, is a lack of good motive. As someone stated above, I forget who, the motive is either OOC or very basic. The whole 'minas or die' mentality you see most bandits with. The simplest answer to this, I think, is character development. A well developed villain is a good villain. Someone with true motives. I've only seen a bit of this, and it can help make conflicts less one sided, as well as possibly giving the villain opportunities to expand their own roleplay.

That sounds quite logical yes. I think one of the issues is that you have three 'origins' of villains.
    Namely:
    - Out of OOC needs.
    - Born evil (Evil from the very start of character creation or a few weeks after)
    - Turned evil, due to events.

And just as you stated I, too, think that the only proper way to a strong (well made) character and a unique oppertunity for role play as well as interaction with the opposer. Is to have a character that has turned evil. As such they have seen both sides of the coin as well. And know what it's like or what they may bring down upon their victim.

A swift question; Are bandits still that present at this moment ? Are they the majority right now ?

  13. 25 minutes ago, AngelsCrossHalcyon said:

Hard to do solo villain RP when anything you're most often finding yourself outnumbered. A good portion of villains flock together because they'd get stomped into nothing if they didn't. That's why there's not a lot of solo villains.

Then there's also the fact that finding people with like-minded characters will bring you a lot more RP than being a solo villain who schemes on his own. Who doesn't want more RP?

    0

You've got a point with the being outnumbered. A very valid one which indeed is kind of a pitty that they have to.

However the second point was adressed though. ;)  We're mainly talking about the autonomous-villain. But solo villain is easier to get the essence of the poll.

    Quote

Solo-villains: Players that play their character in an autonomous manner. This does not exclude them from being part of a group or aiding a certain group. However they are not bound to this said group or follow it's command.

But I get what you mean with 'being outnumbered', yeah.

  14. 23 minutes ago, PurpleCola said:

I also find that people who want to play villains are put off by the fact that you can't actually gain any decent character development. Let's say that poor little Timmy wanted to steal some mina, so he did. The poor lady he stole it from didn't like this and she began to yell. Timmy did the unthinkable and killed her! Timmy could be insanely broken by the fact that he just killed someone, sure, but that person will just come back so what's the point? This isn't me attacking the cloud temple or anything but that is one major reason why villain rp is rarely seen. (Other then really terrible villain rp for mina or items. Just like @Mabah said.)

What about the monks and the healing process ? I remember people actually being healed by the monks in the sanctuary (cloud temple). And in most cases they'd get a whole roleplay around that. And people visiting as well as most likely role playing some recovery the week(s) afterwards.
Some even chose to keep physical reminders of the incident.

At the moment the current status of enforcement is that you aren't required to auto-age your character, but if your card displays a lore-breaking age and we are notified then we will reach out to you. We have done so with a few folks already.

    0

But shouldn't their character age, regardless of the auto-age function? I understand that some people don't want to use it due to the bug(?) with it. But that shouldn't keep them from aging their characters, right ?

Reaching out as in asking them to revert their age to a younger one or as in telling them to round up their character story and work towards their death?

  16. Wondering the same as well, I wouldn't mind to be honest. It'd cause a constant flow of new characters. And with that new stories.

All characters, in general, progress as they grow older. And we end up with too many high-ranked members. Which continiously elevates the level of what is regarded as within the limits of what a player can do. (unintentional-powergaming)
What once was powergaming now becomes the new standard due to some characters being massively old. Ofcourse it's justified when you have a massive amount of time. But in the end we all end up as magical sages and what not.

Not to mention I actually checked through some lore and noticed that there are some who don't age. Whilst it's cool, I'm unsure if much thought went into it when that got accepted as lore.
And probably there was a lot of thought behind it, but as the server ages and so do the character. More slots of these 'oddities' fill up and there is an overflow.

So whilst I think this should be something that's being checked. And which I think would be healthy for the server and flow of new and fresh roleplay. I do think there should be no exceptions, regardless of whichever oddity preseveres you.

  17. It is a poll out of my curiousity for: "What the player thinks of the solo-villain and it's saturation at this moment in time."
If anything it shows a number around these things. Which I myself was interested in as there are no threads that went into this with the explicit mentioning that they were for Solo-villainy only.

Which is a big factor for as far as I can see after skimming through the forums the past few days.
So honestly, simply out of genuine interest.
