The only problem is... this promotes item-oriented role-play. People will become more paranoid and constantly check their inventories and thieves will either get caught, in a little trouble, then keep going with little or no punishment (since dying isn't permanent) or become rich item-hoarders... neither option sounds particularly good for anyone but the thief to me.

On the upside, though, this will give players a reason to stop carrying thousands of minas worth in day-to-day business... and it means that you either have to stay active or log out instead of going AFK. I agree it would add depth, but the problem is making it good for the server RP as a whole. Although, I have to admit there currently is no effective way to play a thief... most players wouldn't let you steal from them.
