    "Ah. Terrorism." mentions Tarkus

"No," says Nikolai, who happens to be enjoying a pastry in the neutral Teutonic lands while on vacation and conveneiently happens to overhear Tarkus' offhand comments "Not even close. This doesn't fit even the broadest definition of terrorism because fundamentally, these acts are not designed to spread fear or terror. Our demands are simple, friendly even.

All we have asked for is an end to the blatant lies that were spread by Courland to bring their allies into this. Then we shall return the prisoners of war."

  3. Nikolai Rykov reads the letter, not with disgust or outrage, but with curiosity. He sets his quill down, penning a response

    "Dear Princess Sophia,

I have found your letter to be of great interest, and I'm both surprised and pleased by the eloquence of your letter. Unfortunately, the contents of it do not please me as such as I have found them to be riddled with falsehoods and uncalled for accusations. I mean no insult by this, but I will take my pen to defend my liege and homland

First and foremost, I express the utmost sorrow and regret for assassination attempts on your life. To assault any lady, much less a child, is a grave sin and a curse in the face of GOD. It truly goes a great distance to show the sad state that Axios is in. However, whoever this man may be, he has no ties or connection to House Ruthern. To be quite frank, I find the accusation or implication that this man was sent by house Ruthern to be grievously insulting, and the fact that it's tossed out without a second thought, as if it's common knowledge ("If one is to point out the faults of us, is it not fair to admit their own?"), to be baffling. What propaganda occurs in your capitals that such lies and slander could be tossed out so casually?

There seems to be a confusion, a misunderstanding maybe? Some seem to believe that the rebellious House Ruthern are Haensetic sympathists. This could not be farther from the truth. We were no more close to Haense than the Archduke was--in fact one of our principal leaders who was cut down at the Massacre of Alexandria had fought against Haense in the Haense-Courland war, as had Count Joren's father Viktor, something that Franz the False did not. He only arrived as a claimant after the war was well and finished.

Princess, I cannot stress enough that the only crime committed by House Ruthern was failure to pay a 7,000 mina fine. There was no banditry, no assassinations, no attacks, no affronts. Please keep this in mind as the war effort progresses, and know we as honorable men of Axios will always protect you, the innocent. This war never should have come about, but since it is so obviously unavoidable we will do the most we possibly can to ensure that no innocents are harmed, that no child or woman's blood is spilled.

    With regards,

    Nikolai Rykov"

Have you been previously banned (be it a forum or server ban) and under what circumstances did you receive this ban?: no

Have you ever received warning points and what actions were committed to receive such points?: I got a warning point once for making an angry feedback post about fms silencing m-m-muh freedom of speech. I also got a warning point for make a paedophilia joke about tahmas. That's all.

Moderating the forums is a very time dependent staff position. How much time, on average, would you be able to dedicate to moderating?: I'm kinda on the forums 24/7, I keep tabs up on my pc and my phone and I'm subscribed to every rp subforum so I'd say quite a bit of time indeed.

What experience do you have using the LotC forums or any forum in general?: Don't really use forums besides LOTC but I've been on here for 4 years so I'd say I've got a pretty good grasp of how they work.

What does it mean to be a Forum Moderator, in your own words? What responsibilities does the Forum Moderator have to carry out in order to successfully do their job?: A forum moderator's job is simple: to create a forum space that amplifies, and expands on the ability of players to carry out rp. Forums should always be treated as a supplementary tool for the server, so the job of the FM is to make sure it stays that way. The forums have to be kept as an rp-focused place. That means an FM's job is to hide meme, ooc, or otherwise off-topic posts. OOC has its place on the forums just as it does ingame--plenty of people like to hang around and chat with their friends in looc or banter in ooc chat, but there's a time and place for that. The forums should be the same way, with OOC posts regulated to their own sections or hidden if inappropriate.

The other part of an FM's job is helping people, usually newer and less experienced players. That could be anything from moving topics to the right section, or simple organization of subforums to make sure that the information held in the forums is easily accessible to all players.

Have you ever held a staff position here on LotC? Do you currently hold any other staff positions? If so, list them and highlight something about the team that you enjoyed/enjoy.: I hold no staff positions, though I was an ET in late 2016/early 2017.

Why should you be a Forum Moderator? What can you bring forward to the team that allows you to moderate and enforce the conduct of the forums?: I think the best quality I have for FM work the ability to accept that I was wrong, or made a mistake. I feel that a lot of players on LOTC are very stubborn in their decisions. While I generally view this as a good quality, any person in a position of authority should be able to amend their positions on certain subjects or amend mistakes that they have made with ease. In addition, I believe that I'm not subject to bias towards my friends in the slightest. Though I like some people on LOTC more than others (obviously) I've never had a problem with tell my friends when they're being ******* stupid or doing something wrong/against the rules/morally fucked, and therefore I see myself as an unbiased candidate.

What characteristics do you posses that makes you stand out from any other applicant?: I'm outside of the usual staff clique. Looking at the last batch of accepted AT apps, there were 10. Of those 10, exactly half of them had already been FMs. I'm not saying that choosing fms with experience is a bad thing, or accusing anyone of bias. But I do believe that the staff clique is real, so if you ask me what sets me apart from other applicants, I'd say that.

Are there members of the current Forum Moderation Team that you do not get along with or see a problem with working with in the future? If so, what is it that could hinder your ability to work together. Remember, this is a team and working together is the main foundation of a team.: I have no qualms with anyone on the team.

Are there any extra things you'd like to mention?:  im gay nd if u dont pick me ur all homophobic

Lord Alexander of Merentel would comment "I hope the King of Lorraine understand that this is a rebellion against us, we're not fighting the Rutherns for fun. I think it is normal for a Kingdom to do whatever it musts to preserve the peace in its lands."

"Preserving the peace =/= murdering children for refusing to pay 7k. Really don't get why that's so hard to understand."

But if you want some change ideas, for one, make it so defenders can call RP for fights on lawless raids, even if it exceeds a maximum of 8 people. Large RP fights are more than possible, and having such a large cap wholly disallows RP defense as an option lest it is one man trying to fend off 6.

Likewise, removing the chest looting in wartime raids. There's no benefit added in that.

rp fighting is actual cancer 99.9% of the time like i love a good rp fight but sadly players on this server are neither mature or intelligent enough to partake in them well. Can you imagine doing that with 16+ people? It'd just a powergaming ******* mess

Rotger never sent his one copy of an edited letter, though he somehow receives a response nonetheless. He scribbles on the backside of the response 'the princess was not harmed but her friend, a noblelady, had her head crushed. I've seen the scar. Secondly the group that came 'armed' for the release was after the murder of one of our solitary nobles who was sent to secure release, a member of the privy council at the time too. Also, congratulations on not even being able to murder a man correctly; I haven't met Edward since his 'departure', nor was I informed of his survival. However I greatly suspect he survived through no 'mercy' on the Ruthern part. On top of that, I personally recall the Brawms attempting to defenestrate a noblelady of Courland in our own palace. And it's awfully divisive taking a child to a meeting in which you plan on drawing arms. And need I mention how I inhaled thanhium one Galahad Doesn'tMatter  threw at a praying infant princess.'

"Her head was crushed but all she has is a scar to show for it.. are you mad? How does one have their head crushed in and still survive? Is she an undead? What manner of dark magic are you speaking of that allows one to live after supposedly having their head caved in? As for the matter of Edward, there is no evidence to ever suggest that he was killed. You insist that he was but there is absolutely no reason to believe so whatsoever or any evidence of such a thing in any way, shape or form. If we killed him, he would be dead and not alive--therefore, he was not killed. I truly do not understand why the permanence of death is such a difficult concept for you to understand. And once again I will reiterate, we did not take a child to a meeting where we intended to draw arms. We did not intend to draw arms. And in fact, we did not draw arms until they were drawn on us by Frederick Staunton-Baden, and even then it was only to protect our own. Also, who the **** is Galahad. I've never heard of such a man in my life, nor is such a man employed by House Ruthern. As for the Brawms, I've not heard of this incident but there was never a condemnation of them by Courland nor did Courland ever aid us in removing them. And, there was still a Courlandic garrison in the castle when it was sieged.

"Courlandic incursions into Hanseti-Ruska being Gared Errmark. So when he raids a nation that's openly being hostile towards us, that's reprehensible but when we take issue in him fighting against our allies the Dwed and chastise him for thus, that's also reprehensible. Bit of a contradiction, but hey, let's move on..." he shrugs as he lines the two sections.

"Courlandic incursions referring to the Brawm rebels who murdered Duke Henrik Kovachev and were supported by a Courlandic garrison when they were sieged. The same Brawm rebels who Courland had promised would be evicted from the north. The Brawms failed to leave and Courland failed to aid in their eviction as promised. See the Greyspine Concord, term 7." ((

"By no means am I agreeing to such actions, but if I remember correctly, a noblelady, one not able to play a part in the war, had her head caved in by Haense, along with the execution of one of the nobles we sent to diplomatically secure the kidnapped Princess' release. So... Contradiction again..?"

"Firstly, this isn't a contradiction at all. The kidnapping of a noblelady does not excuse the murder of a nobleman, equivalent exchange does not apply in wartime situations, that's absurd. Secondly, the Princess was only captured after the Archduke of Courland lead an attack to murder a Baron in Haense without provocation or any attempt at diplomacy. The Princess was kept in a cell alive and very much unharmed until she was freed. She was kept as a comfortable prisoner in good health, supplied with food, water, and everything else she could need. Obviously it was not a kind act but it was one deemed necessary due to the obvious incursions from Courland, and the princess was never actually harmed.

Also, the noble who was """"diplomatically""" sent to negotiate for the Princess' release came armed, with a party of armed men, who drew weapons on the Karlsburg guards and were promptly defeated. In fact, the son of that nobleman later seceded from Courland and said that his father did go to Haense with violent intent and that it was an act of suicide."

"About Mardon..." he taps the feather end of his quill against his lip, "first off, we were called to arms by an ally. Secondly, we disengaged from the war before its conclusion, allowing Mardon to remain, but ohh grr, we're such bloodthirsty conquerors, right?"

"You were not called to terms by an ally. You aided Savoyard rebels of your own accord after they came to your throne room and requested it. You had signed no treaty with them and they were brigands rather than an actual faction. You had no obligation to aid them whatsoever.

"Finally the Ruthern incident wherein the Rutherns murdered a noble and occupied a county. The return of the county and a meagre fine seemed a fair response from the Arch-Duke, the response the Crown backed. Aaaand Count Joren, that was.. when they drew arms during a court session and quickly found themselves overwhelmed. Draws parallels to WhoCares Vanir who died outside Riga after failing to raid it."

"It's baffling that people continue to insist that the noble Edward was murdered. He was never harmed. He is still alive. Should you wish, you could send a bird to him and speak with him RIGHT NOW. I simply cannot comprehend why it is so impossibly difficult to convey to you people that EDWARD ROSWELL IS ALIVE.

Also, the first person to draw arms was Frederick Staunton-Baden as confirmed by every single eyewitness who was not actively participating and fighting WITH Courland. The Ruthern men only drew arms after Frederick Staunton-Baden did and in fact only after Adelwen Ruthern shouted "Protect the Count," referring to said 8 year old. And even after that, the men of House Ruthern attempted to retreat rather than fight against the Courlanders but were cut down while attempting to flee. It's disgusting how you spread such evil lies without a second thought. Truly, you are either a very evil man or a very deluded one."

    Responds Nikolai.

Elias would tap his chin lightly, remembering how the Rutherns drew arms first and tried to slay the King and his men

"Nice use of alternative facts," says Nikolai, remembering how Frederick Staunton drew his sword on the assembled host and the Rutherns only drew after Adelwen shouted 'protect the Count' who, if you'll remember, was 8 years old.
