    “To Whom It May Concern,

Good tidings and Prophets’ blessings upon you, with earnest love of man. Recent events have created uncertainty within both the Canonist Church and the Ruskan Rite. To all priests and acolytes, I ask you to join me in discussion in regards to the formation of a priestly fraternity within the Ruskan Rite in order to espouse and defend the Tradition of the faith.

We shall be meeting in the Church of the Exile in Louisville, Sedan next month ((12/28/2021 at 6pm EST)). If you are unable to attend, send a letter addressed to Father Jeremy of Sedan within Carsura, Louisville, Sedan.

Hold the prayer of Saint Wilfriche in your hearts as you make your trek. As the litany once kept the priest-warrior safe in the days of Setherin, so too shall it defend the sanctity and dignity of our Holy Mother Church:

O Dark is the road I trek,

For in it lingers shame and pudency.

    But in me is Godan,

    And through Godan I persist,

    And by faith in Godan,

    I shall not falter.

    Godani jest wielki,

    Fr. Jeremy of Sedan”

  3. “By the Seven Heavens!” A tear falls down Father Jeremi’s face as he collapsed to the floor, his body overtaken by a wave of literary estascy- the potency of the poem completely stupefied the priest, completely enamored by the poetic genius of Lady Robert(a).

  4. “I remember a time when it was by the valiant martyrdom and courage of the Barclays and Ludovars which kept the AIS fiends at bay, defending the sanctity of Haense with their dying breath. Titans like Wilhelm and Erwin Barclay and Fredrick Ludovar cast out the darkness of apathy and ennui with fists of iron and passions of fury. Now, these families and clans, namely due to cliche politics and divisionary tactics, have been slowly but surely cast out like societal pariahs. What a world we live in now that there are more Barclays, Ludovars, Rutherns, Othamans, Sarkozics, Wicks, Kovachevs (the list of iconic Haeseni clan names goes on) in the south than can be found in the lands of the Fourth Prophet.

What a shame. I pray that Prince Sigismund, an heir born under signs most auspicious, will mend the schism and rectify the diaspora.”

    "Zacarias was loyal."

    Who were James and Zacarias?

    By Pseudo-Clement

Not many individuals are mentioned in the scriptures; in the Four Holy Scrolls alone and not counting any deutocanonical text, the Canon only lists nineteen (19) mortal individuals by name [see note 1] (the Primordial Man and Woman had no names, Gsp 1:29). James and Zacarias are two of those lucky few, and they play vital roles within the life and ministry of the Prophet Godfrey.

James is first on the scene- when the lords quarreled over the rites and hymns of the faith (Gsp 6:49-54), God sent James to bade the lords to listen to Godfrey's call for peace and harmony (Gsp 6:55-56). "The priests were humbled" (Gsp 6:57) and Godfrey anointed James with the horn and laurel as high priest (Gsp 6:58-60), naming him "pontifex, for you are a builder of bridges" (Gsp 7:61). With the laurel upon James' head, "the faithful were united" (Gsp 7:62), thus fulfilling Godfrey as the "savior of men" who brought peace upon the lands of men (Gsp 7:63). After this, James is not mentioned further in scripture.

Right after the story of James comes the conspiring of the seneschal Reynard. Reynard had at first heeded the word of God and gave the crown of Renatus to Godfrey (Gsp 6:25-28); however, he later grew resentful of his new subservient position to Godfrey (Gsp 7:2-3). He turned to one of Godfrey's servants, a man named Zacarias (Gsp 7:4), who was a son of the last king (Ezekial Tarus), and attempted to swoon him to rise up to press to his claim (Gsp 7:5-6). Contrary to Reynard's plans, however, Zacarias was loyal (Gsp 7:7). He chastised Reynard for not believing and holding faith in God's choice in Godfrey (Gsp 7:8-9) and later warned Godfrey of Reynard's machinations, leading to his eventual banishment (Gsp 7:10). Zacarias is not mentioned further in the scriptures.

James mended the countless schisms and sects throughout Renatus and greater Orenian during the time-period, achieving the first dogmatic harmony is over one thousand years. Though we attribute the modern pontificate to figures like St. Lucien of Ulmsbottom and St. Everard of Alkhazar, James is the only one mentioned specifically in the Canon as a figure of the contemporary high priesthood. Zacarias acted in faith and loyalty to God and His bestowment of Godfrey with the laurels of prophecy. Despite being related to the previous monarch and in many cases well within his right to pursue a valid claim, he choice Love of God over the vanities of the world. Zacarias is the archetype of the ardent servant, the humble and content man whose only desire is following the word of God. Through only paltry research, I guarantee there are miracles throughout history attested to both these figures' names and intercessions.

In conclusion, I submit this open petition to the Church, its clerics, and all those willing to read. In the recent trend of canonizing important and holy figures of the Canon (Saints Clement and Evaristus, St. Tara; Helena VIII), I believe James and Zacarias should be considered for canonization.

I appreciate the hard work many have put into this! But I think it is a little strange to get upset at people putting in fictitious characters into the family tree; this is quite literally what real nobility did to strengthen their own claims. They fabricated documents, pretended they were cousins with this or that House through the marriage of obscure relations, etc. All of the "pre-Aegis" figures are equally fictitious. My character, when he has written as a historian on the server, has treated all of the claims regarding illustrious ancestors from various groups (not just humanity) with a very large grain of salt. For example, it was in Godfrey Horen's interest that he supposedly has these great royal ancestors, making him fit to be handed the throne of Renatus. Godfrey very well could have been a huckster and scam artist, as many actual nobles have been. Whether or not he is a liar is something that needs to be mediated in rp, not in "official lore" or the bloodline police. I think the group that has mostly controlled Oren for the past 8 years has used Aeldin as a crutch to hobble away from many sticky situations, but are surprised that others would use that same crutch?

There is a difference between RPly connecting yourself to a preexisting lineage (like Godfrey to Horen) and fabricating entire nations, courts, continents entirely divided from the main server, to the point that people have created entire empires within their head. They can do this, sure, but it has no space in a resource which is meant for EVERYONE, not just themselves. The FamilyEcho is meant to be a resource for houses and families that are played currently, not for people to fantasize about made-up kingdoms that have no bearance on the server or its RP. Fictitious characters are kept at a minimum and should only be for pre-server events or when it is absolutely necessary.

All because the current Empire depended on Aeldin connections doesn’t mean the practice is right either. Aeldin-spamming needs to stop and people need to stop using it as a go-to copout. Empire in the last year, two years has made great strides in keeping everything within server and not having bizarre, fabricated Aeldin spawns. You may not see it as an issue, but it does take away from the actions of true realms and kingdoms actually played and ran by players when rando #5 can devise an entire royal line from a made-up place that never once could be found on the server. Small fabrications here and there are okay, but full-blown Aeldin lines that never have been played on the server need to go.

Hey I played Illaustius Horen back in the day and have had an issue that popped up when someone decided to make up children I didn't have to get some connection to Renatus. Just wanted to point out that only 1 child of mine married and it was to Eric Sarkozic and every other child I had died or did not marry, this other daughter 'Henritta' literally doesn't exist so if that could get cut from the tree that'd be great.

I ask this genuinely, is this family tree based on played characters throughout LotC since Aegis (some names I recognize, some I don't) with characters filled in fictitiously or is this mixing in-game characters with another server's characters/fiction? I keep seeing this word 'Aeldin' and I never understood where that came from. I am only asking out of curiosity.

Aeldin is a server-approved landmass; however, a few nameless individuals decided to spam characters from Aeldin on the FamilyEcho (mainly made up royalty) in order to give prestige to their own families or out of their own fantasies. I have been slowly cleaning them out but it’s difficult work. Besides the spam of Aeldin characters, majority of the characters post-1300 were actually played (pre-1300 is all pre-Aegis and so are all historical lore figures).

    -snip-

    "Dear Friend,

Blessings upon you and your house, with earnest Love of Man. I received your letter recently and I found your points regarding my essay intriguing and enlightening. You bring forth issues within the logic of my paper that definitely require direct address, and so in response to your criticism I wish to address your points diligently and attempt to give counterpoints of my own.

Let me begin by first listing the premises made in your letter.

First, you correctly state that knowing or discerning the existence of God does not require any form of direct or indirect revelation from the Divine; rather, the Divine can be conceived vis-a-vis reason (i.e “the Light of Wisdom”, Gsp 1:28). To quote Blessed Pius, “The existence of God … [is] knowable with certainty by the natural light of human reason…” I do not contest this point and I concede that the act of knowing God is not a direct revelation in of itself.

Second, you state that loving or worshipping God does not ascertain a divine revelation either. I agree that all descendants bear the innate capacity to love God- that is, every man and woman born is somehow and some way innately and instrisictly constructed and wired to both want and desire an intimate relationship with God. Within every soul is a void, a hole which can only be filled by Him. This can be proven, as you point out, by the fact that Faith is recorded within the Scroll of Virtue, which is law for all descendants according to traditional church teachings (though I will get back to this point later in the letter).

Third, you state that knowing to be virtuous can also be reached by Intellection. To quote, “God has placed within the heart of every man reason and will by which he may strive to live by the moral law.” Because we innately want to love God, and loving God includes living virtuous lives and following the moral law he put down, we therefore crave to be honorable and noble in heart.

However, even with all this true, I argue there still is a revelation in the form of a primordial Tradition. Mainly, I argue that reason alone cannot lead someone to total unity with God. Let me explain.

First, let us look at the aengudaemons, specifically daemons. Daemons are creatures born from God’s breath (Gsp 1:6). They rule “all that is not” (Gsp 1:7) yet we know this place is not the Void, as such a place is forbidden to the aengudaemons (Gsp 1:8). As they are tasked with the ruling, we can most likely infer they have a capacity for reason. They are also given some form of free will and ability to be worldly,  as can be seen in the fact that he is both proud (Gsp 1:14) and can desire to overthrow his Heavenly Maker (Gsp 1:16). Daemons can choose whether to believe in God or not, whether to doubt Him or not. Later, he conspires and nearly successfully seduces the Four Sons to renounce God for the world. Through all this, I believe we can deduce there is some capacity of reason. We can also presume that despite Iblees’ fall, there most likely still is daemons who actively believe and follow God’s Will.

However, daemons are not God’s favored creatures; the descendants are (more specifically, the Primordial Man and Woman, Gsp 1:30). Why?

I believe there must be something more than reason; this can be supported in our Canonist cosmology and church doctrines. A Norlander, for example, can live a virtuous life with his pure, God-given Intellection. But, since he lives in a place traditionally hostile to Canonism, he will most likely never research and seek the validity of the Scrolls. He is instilled from birth till death of the truth of their religion, and indeed he would use some of the same reasoning in Summa Theologica to support his belief in the All-Father and greater pantheon. We know, however, that God is merciful and he is still able to walk the skies, but only the First Sky (Catechism of the Canonist Church). He can never achieve a status beyond this, even if he is the most virtuous, honorable, and principled man. He has the capacity of Faith, as listed in the Scroll of Virtue, but this faith is seemingly misguided and leaves him only in the Skies’ periphery. Something more is needed to be closer to Him. But what is this thing which allows us to get closer, to be like the Saints and other blessed men and women?

To walk ever deeper into the halls of the Seven Skies, there must be some method, practice, or other action, deed, or what have you that separates the Descendants from all other creatures, and furthermore all Canonists from non-believers. If it is merely believing in God, then there is no reason why the Daemons (or even beastfolk, ie Kha’men, Frogmen, Mousemen, etc.) could not be as favored as the Descendants. If it using reason to ascertain that there is an Absolute or Divinity, as well as living a virtuous life, then there is no reason why heathens cannot enter the Skies as close as prophets (do they not believe in a form of God, even if it is a Burning Bush?). What is it then which separates Believer from non-Believer, which separates the Primordial Man from all others? Is it a praxis of worship (i.e. Canonist Church Tradition and rites)? A form of prayer (i.e. meditation, devotionals)? A set of primordial laws? Maybe it is just the fact we have this ‘Light of Wisdom’? But what is this ‘Light of Wisdom’ if not the capability and yearning to find God? I do not know, this would require more study. But I do know that there is something which made the Primordial Man stand apart from the rest of creation, and reason alone cannot be the mere cause of such lofty status.

Please send me your thoughts and forgive the hasty nature of this letter, as this week has been quite busy for myself, yet I still wished to address your letter as the thoughts laid fresh in everyone’s minds.

    God be with you,

    Pseudo-Clement"
