In recent times the expedition has hit a snag. We have had to retreat to our newfound allies village, that of the trolls. I hope here that we can find some rest and prepare for what is to come. With these hopes in mind, delays no longer an issue, we shall proceed as we have before. Let there be correspondence with the mainland, let’s hope they will hear us, let’s hope they can bring us peace of mind. These hopes are what keeps us all from a terribly daunting cliff. So let it be for now, put to rest for a moment, put aside for another day and put instead our quill and ink to good use.

The Haeseni Vessel Arriving in The Attenlund

In the distance of the Attenlund’s murky waters approaches a ship. The vessel is not large, yet not small either, carrying with it some precious cargo and one Nikolas. It comes at the mark of the first year spent since the expedition set out on its venture. There have been days of terrible nightmares as well as days of hearty laughter since then. An expedition is no simple matter and no doubt will its members face many obstacles on their path. It is as such, in between all hardship that we find comfort in the simpler of things. The pleasantness and comfort of home, speaking with those we love and care for, keeping in contact with family and friends, such is the nature of a Mail Drive. We carry thus our hopes with us that Nikolas may receive these letters and bring them swiftly to those would be recipients.

They offered a smile, even a warm drink and bread for any reader so they may find some respite from the cold weather and famine. May the reader be in a good health and well-fed during this time of strife. The Kongzem of Hanseti-Ruska and by extension, its people are under a lot of pressure resulting from the Troll invaders and the lack of food left behind by their escapades. We the common man and woman are divided between many professions such as a soldier in the ranks of the HRA safeguarding the Kongzem, smiths working the harsh anvil and forge, bakers stoking oven fires to bake bread, farmers ensuring we are all fed. We carry in our hands likewise a responsibility as the HRA does to safeguard the Kongzem, to safeguard its sanctity. It is much simpler to give up in face of injustice, to lay down your shield and sword in the face of adversity and to succumb to the unwavering tides of chaos. I know however that we all have the strength in us to persist.

I am a newcomer to the Kongzem but my ancestors are far from strangers to our fair state, far from strangers to the people and their struggles and far from strangers from the battles we fight every day. My family was ravaged by what is known today as the Vaeyl Wars a struggle much reminisce of our current time and its battle against these Rime-Trolls. It was my ancestor Godric Colborn as well as Matthew Colborn the then Palatine of Haense who fought at the war front. With the many sacrifices back then the state recovered and victory was had, some sacrificed more than others, but may my existence prove that even those most harmed survived and recovered. For as my family lost Matthew Colborn to the culmination of the war, so likewise we ensured many more survived. We would have perished had we not persisted these words I hope we never forget.

I may not have the expertise in war such as Matthew Colborn nor the physical strength as my great-grandfather Godric Colborn. But I have in me the strength to persist and the will to be the vessel of change and to carry out a duty to serve the people of this Kongzem. It is as such that I ask of you to speak your mind, may your words be heard and respected. It is the people of this Kongzem that is our most valued treasure, the gem of our fair state, the most precious of things. May your words be like gozemer fashioned to be worn and tide us towards change. Let us persist together, I hope to speak and meet with you all to hear your woes and worries, to better represent your will.

THE TREE RETURNS TO ITS ROOTS

An Unexpected Journey & Return I

At sea, the waves clamoured to strike against the bows of sturdy ships. The wind carried the fleet forward at a fast pace its force keeping the ships unsteady yet unbroken. Though it is nothing but the norm even the most seasoned of sailors hold but respect, perhaps even fear for the sea and its monstrous depths, each unrelenting wave a gruesome reminder of this truth.

The largest of the ships at the center of the fleet stuck out like a sore thumb, on its deck sat cargo of varying size, boxes and fastened wood. With the early light of morn came the sailor hands most young to snuff out the candles as to not waste precious wax, save for the captain there was only one other who had been on deck before them. At the very front of the bow, past the masts and most ropes stood a black-haired figure. The early sunlight wrapped around his black hair though the sides were shaven a ponytail dangled at the back. Bound around his waist was a rope tied to the nearby mast and his foot sat perched as to get a better view with his spyglass.

In the far distance, he spied land and its green sea as well as tall mountains. How long had it been he wondered? How long had it been since the Raven and the Crow? How long had it been since the kingdom lay its first stone? While in his thoughts heavy-footed steps came from behind before coming to a quick halt. 

“You’re up early as always Adrian.” With a turn of his head, Adrian brought down the spyglass to reveal his grey eyes, looking over the armoured figure before him. His words came out through a wide set smile “Ah, Manfred!” So it was him sneaking up on me he thought to himself while reaching out a hand to point towards land, towards Almaris, towards their future. “We’re not far off now Manfred, we’re not far off.” With wistful words, his gaze followed where he pointed as they gained a spirited glint. 

“I see it…” Manfred spoke with his hand coming to rest beneath his chin while walking closer in the distance he could barely make out the Almaris coastline. “I see it as well just remember to stay true to yourself young Lord a lot has changed since ages past.”

Adrian became thoughtful as he began to think of the past “I wonder how they are doing, how is our King? Is he fair as he was in the past? Does he carry the weight of the crown properly and with the dignity of a crow?” Adrian’s smile grew only wider and warmer as he spoke. “I wonder how they are doing, how are our friend and family? How are the people of Haense? How are the Rutherns we fought side by side with, the Amadors, even those old rival Kovachevs!” Putting the spyglass back into its holder he breathed out deeply before speaking again. “I wonder will they accept us? Will they welcome our return?”

Letting out a slight chuckle the grizzled and brown bearded Manfred rumbled out “May it be so young Lord I don’t doubt a Colborn would be welcomed in Haense. But what are you to say if they ask where you’ve all been? They must also wonder as you do and be uncertain of why it has taken so long.”

Some worry flashed over Adrian’s features his spirited eyes dimming ever so slightly before brightening once again. “I’m certain they’ll understand, we lost too much during the Vaeyl Wars and it has taken us this long to recuperate. It is only natural to return after being able to serve the Crow King properly for what reason are we to live off of past glories and accomplishments? To be a parasite living off of the crown?” With his eyes gazing towards Almaris his confidence found him. “It doesn’t matter how rich one might be or how much power one might have we’ve always regarded Haense as our treasure, its people the gem of our eye. If I die knowing my hands helped my fellow man I will have the pride to carry my head high in the seven skies, that is our pride, the pride of Colborn’s that to serve something larger than the self.”

“Wisely said, young Lord where shall we set course? The men are restless.” Manfred turned to the gathering crowd which had listened in. There were men and women, Scylfing clans the lot of them that had been gathered together from the distant reaches of the land. In Haense awaited their long lost brothers and sisters that remained on Athera since those ancient times. They were a stubborn folk of the earth and soil, daring in death, willful in life, free-spirited and kind to those who’ve earned it.

Turning to greet them Adrian motioned to the captain off in the distance. “Set course for home!” He called out loudly as everyone broke out into laughter returning to their hardy work, Manfred and Adrian gave each other a knowing smile. 

Travelling along the untended roads of Almaris was a long winding oxen caravan on its sides horses carried forth in a protective guard. They had made a days rest and journey since making landfall near the swamps and if the weather offered it they’d make it into the Haeseni Heartlands shortly.

Two horses came riding past the middle of the caravan the horses were black but one sported a spot of white in between its eyes which was ridden by a brown bearded man. “What did my brother say they called the capital nowadays?” Called a youth from beside Manfred. “Karosgrad, did you not read the letters properly Adrian? Truly what would your father think of you…”

“Don’t be dull Manfred! We’re not a travelling band of entertainers but retainers, there’s a stark difference.” He seemed a little embarrassed as he was caught forgetful by his compatriot, lips becoming terse. Manfred smiled as he spoke dotingly with a slight tease of tone. “Is that so? I thought a good retainer would learn properly as to better serve the crown, no?” With a slight flush, the young Lord became talkative once more. “I’d just forgotten in my excitement, Karosgrad you say? It is a fitting name that befits a capital inhabited by the Crow’s descendants. Karl was always special I suppose it is no surprise our ancestor Carr was always the lesser-known of the two. But his honour is our honour but we can perhaps come off as a little zealous to others. How many cities have we named after him by now? Not to mention the terrain which have borne his name or perhaps even churches.”

By now in the distance, he could see the red walls and the inviting arch of the first gateway of the Kingdom. The young Colborn and the caravan entered with him making it down the city centre street and onto the square, oxen lead carts lined up finely towards the palace. The city was alive and rife with the fair and celebration of independence. “Go on then.” Encouraged Manfred as he noticed his young Lord become nervous but also overwhelmed by the new environment. The oxen caravan filled with goods ready to be given to the crown watched him from behind.

Taking his first steps onto the solid ground of Haense he couldn’t stop himself from looking at the palace with a seriousness only shown during business dealings. We’ve returned father can you see it? We’ve finally made it home after all this time he thought to himself but he could not stop, no it was time to move. Step by step he made his way up towards the grand entrance before coming to a kneel, there he waited, there he waited for a welcoming, there he waited for his Koeng the Crow.

@Luciloo might be worth pushing for some system where you can switch the improvement type as long as you already paid for it. To make it fair there could be some sort of cooldown on how often you can switch it. 

Just a thought but that could potentially help your situation.

Obviously very late by now and we had been told your situation was under control by top brass as well as those leading it. I’m sorry to hear that things went that way and it sounds like a huge let down.

Who was supposed to carry through the event that was carrying over to Arcas? I could try to speak to them and get it operational again.

ATHERA

The ST has gone through a lot since the departure of Mystery and changed extensively since as we move towards the future. Yet we’ve not forgotten the promise made nor our duty to carry it through. We ran into extensive troubles that complicated our work and delayed us from an early April launch. The reality, however, is such and I doubt Mystery ever expected things to go this way when he said early April. It is however with a smile on my face and likewise the team that we announce the 24th to be the new launch date. To those of you in the discord, it may come as no surprise but I will elaborate for those that don’t know.

There were originally only two groups that were promised to go at a later date that of Haelun’or and Talon’s Grotto. We have since extended the chance for the Epiris Crew to have a new event as theirs was non-existent during Athera the first time around. The 24th will be the beginning phase for Haelun’or and Epiris with Talon’s coming in sometime next month. The first day will be mostly setting up your camp and some small hints of what is to come. To be fully transparent the Talon’s Grotto was originally going to be brought in on the same date as the rest. Yet as a result of COVID-19 affecting most harshly the leaders of that project we’ve had to change leadership as a result. This will mean that the project is somewhat delayed compared to the other two as we’d rather delay it than launch an unfinished mess. Let’s answer a few questions before we open this up fully.

You can join this event even if you died during Athera and you don’t need to come on the same character. Anyone that can be verified as having been a part of the original Epiris Crew is welcome. It is entirely fine to go back to Arcas and collect new items to bring for this event and it is even strongly encouraged. In Roleplay you will have been stuck on Athera this whole time after having been “abandoned”. This would apply to your characters even if you weren’t there “originally” with that character.

if the crew doesn’t make a head count of 20 or above then you may invite new participants until 20 are participating.

It is strongly suggested for you to bring your own items. This should include food, building materials and potential useful RP items. Though keep in mind that anything you bring can and potentially will be lost in the process of the event.

You will be brought over by boat and as such, you’ll need a ship made in the next two to three weeks that is ready for the journey. If you store items on the ship and not in your inventory they may glitch out of existence keep that in mind. We strongly suggest storing items in your own inventory if they have any value to you (RP items for example). When you land it is instead encouraged to set up a storage area. If you somehow die due to a glitch or otherwise during the event it will be difficult to refund items. Let’s all cooperate to attempt to keep these issues to a minimum.

The Crew will be locked at 40 members to ensure that others don’t use it as a means to return to Athera. As much as we would love to have another big-scale event we can’t handle a load above what has been planned for.

I’ve personally contacted the GM team and they’ll be fully cooperating with the event to ensure its smooth sailing (pun intended). It is extremely likely that SSing from Athera will be turned off this time around as some nexus items cause chunk errors? I’m by no means the TECH team but that is what we’ve been told. This will mean that everyone’s inventories will have to be checked before you return to Arcas so do keep that in mind. The event itself will be roughly ongoing for a 10~ day period with some variation depending on the groups themselves. I’m looking forward to this journey and would gladly answer any would be questions! Please make sure to vote on the poll if you are participating. Join the discord as well if you aren’t in it already! There will be frequent updates and announcements for events and the various groups will be given valuable info there.
