    MC Item Description:

Unlike many others, this key is comprised of pure arcane energy that has been imbued and designed with one key purpose. When slotted into a lock, this arcane tool will alter its shape to fit the dimensions of the mechanism within the door. Once in place, it will solidify and allow for the door to be opened. Due to ti’s unique design, the lockpick will memorise any locks it has previously opened for future use.

    Effect(s) of Artefact:

The Cognat’s Lockpick can be used as a ‘skeleton’ key of sorts in roleplay, and acts as an unbreakable tool when picking locks. This lockpick lowers the initial lockpicking roll by one, and any subsequent opens of the door by one also.

    • 14+ for Wood, 16+ for Iron

    • If the door is relocked, such will be 13+ for Wood, and 15+ for Iron.

    • Memorising the lock will take an extra roll that does not count as the lock picking attempt. This roll must succeed a DC of 15.

    Red Lines of Artefact:

    • Only three uses per lock per day, as per server rules.

    • A GM must have evidence of you lockpicking the door before to be eligible for the lower rolls.

    Explanation of Effects:

Through a weaved enchantment of Arcanism and Cognatism, the enchantment stores information of previous locks, and the Arcanism acts as a ‘liquid’ which fills out the lock’s mechanism.

    MC Item Description:

This Cube is intricate in shape and design, used to store and regurgitate information; By establishing a mental link with its owner, the Eldrad Matrix stores and takes copies of memories, traits, and any other data input into the cube. The Cube itself serves no real purpose other than acting as a ‘hive’ for the data placed into it. Fitted with a brilliant gem on all 6 sides, the ‘eyes’ activate when the almost sentient cube speaks its mind.

    Effect(s) of Artefact:

Free-thinking and able to act as a close companion, the Eldrad Matrix is a data bank for those who wish to access it. Akin to the Lexicons of old, the Matrix stores information you provide it with and returns it to you at a later date. It is a storage device for data in all forms. It is able to talk, and provides you with tantalising conversation as it learns from the knowledge you bestow upon it.

    Red Lines of Artefact:

    • Eldrad cannot be used in combat, and provides no information to the person that has not already been stored within it.

    • The Matrix cannot ‘soak’ or ‘absorb’ information that is not willingly placed into it.

    • The Matrix must be given information, and cannot force itself into the minds of others.

    • The Matrix cannot be accessed by a Mental Mage, as it does not have it’s own ‘mind’.

    • The Matrix is just a web of interconnected information.

    • The cube itself can be warded and shut down.

    • When activated, the cube gives off a strange ‘aura’ which indicates the usage of voidal energies.

    • At the end of the day, the box is just a box. It can be broken.

    • Eldrad cannot be used in combat whatsoever, and provides no advantage to characters through the use of pseudo-cognatism.

    Explanation of Effects:

Through a strange connection and splice of it’s owners consciousness, the Box itself makes use of Mental Magic, Sensory Illusion, and Cognatism, to take in and store information within itself. Sensory Illusion allows the users to use the box to create ‘scenes’ which detail or better describe the events of the stored information, akin to a video player. Mental Magic is used to protect and store the information, and Cognatism allows the box to learn and develop itself to speak to you in a fluid way.

    MC Item Description:

A thick, black chain which sets around the wearer’s neck is encrusted with a spherical blue gem at it’s base. A soft hum of power seeps from it’s encasement.

    Effect(s) of Artefact:

The Pendant which hangs around the neck acts as a Manipulation and Enhancement tool for one’s mana usage. When worn, the wearer finds easier purchase on the use of Arcane Arts, being able to make better use of their mana and staving off depletion a little further. Additionally, this pendant may be used to ‘mute’ someone’s Aura and grant the illusion that they are non-magical in nature, or may be used to ‘increase’ the aesthetics of someone’s aura, granting the illusion they are much more powerful than they actually are.

    Red Lines of Artefact:

    • The manipulation of one’s aura is purely cosmetic, and is only used to make one’s aura appear bigger or smaller than it actually is.

    • The enhancement of one’s mana usage allows the user to make better use of their arcane abilities and manipulate spells more effectively. This allows them to cast a little more than the regular person, and sustain the cast for slightly longer.

    Explanation of Effects:

Insight and dominion over the Void and it’s creatures has allowed the Horror and Guardian to work together and effectively manipulate Mana in a more convenient way. Using the effects of Illusion and Mental Magic to shift focus to key areas of their cast allows the user to make greater use of their pool before depletion.

    MC Item Description:

A crystalline object, imbued with the call of the Horror, is quite ordinary to any and all who gaze upon it, ordinary in all aspects besides the soft and somber purple glow which seems to emanate from the stone. When a Cognat comes into contact with this stone, they’ll notice and sense an all too familiar presence, and should a Voidal Mage possess the stone during a session of intense meditation, they might find themselves come into contact with the very Horrors which plague the stone’s creator.

    Effect(s) of Artefact:

The Stone acts as a ‘calling’ point for Voidal Horrors to barrell too. It is a beacon for those seeking refuge in the minds of would-be cognats. The Stone is a conduit, a focal point which bridges the connection between Cognat and Horror, and allows for communion between the two.

    Red Lines of Artefact:

    • It’s a rock. It can get lost or exploded.

    • Must be approved by an ST and overseen by the MT.

    Explanation of Effects:

Imbued with the call of the Horror, a mental connection is established between the bearer of the stone, and the Voidal Horror which is called upon meditation. Through the used of a Mastered Cognat’s insight and understanding, relationship and binding with their own Horror, an imprint is placed into the stone as to ‘call’ a Horror to the stone’s bearer.

    MC Item Description:

A suit of armour, made and crafted from half black ferrum plate, altered through the use of transfiguration to make the plate dense, accompanied with a chainmail underguard composed and created from a mix of wyvern and adult lubba scales. What makes this magical, however, is it’s unique ability to shift and alter it’s density to various parts of the armour as and when it needs. Through a link to the wearer’s mind, the armour and the bearer hold a strong bond, allowing them for faster reactions through their armour’s movement, and close adaptability in the heart of combat.

    Effect(s) of Artefact:

The armour is able to shift and manipulate it’s density into part so the plate which may require it most. It is adaptable and reactive to it’s wearer needs, being able to manipulate the armour around the wearer as and when needed.

    Red Lines of Artefact:

    • Weight shifts with the density of the armour, and due to the art of Transfiguration, the density in the other areas of the armour will change. Should one place all of the density into the bracer, the rest of the armour will become weak and light, however the bracer will be very heavy and robust.

    • The armour operates the same as well-forged plated armour.

    • Same properties apply to the metal and the scales.

    • The movement of the armour’s density is slow, and requires one emote to move the weight to different parts of the body. This means the user must anticipate where their combatant will strike next as opposed to reacting immediately.

    Explanation of Effects:

Using Transfiguration to alter the movement and density of the armour to various armours, the enchantment acts as a way to channel the user’s will and strength in combat. It is far from instantaneous, and requires forethought, though the movement of the metals and scales in the armour may just save one’s life.

    MC Item Description:

Created by a madman, this tome was designed to tap into the very thoughts and memories of those who lay their hands upon it, taking and constructing the desires and illustrious wishes of the reader. Through this, the reader comes upon a perilous tale of their own journey through life thus far, further expanding through untempered stories of their future until the conclusion of their life.

    Effect(s) of Artefact:

The book looks deep into the memories and wishes of the user, and uses those to construct a biography of their life on the pages as they read them, granting way to the belief that this book was written about their life and future. This inspires them to follow the actions the book describes in their future, intending to reach their life goals and change their own future.

    Red Lines of Artefact:

    • It’s a book.

    • It is not telling the future, it simply extrapolates your memories and desires from your mind to write out a story for you to see.

    • Each time the book is opened, the future will be different as per rules of time.

    • This does not alter the future or your chances, it is simply a vanity item which allows someone to develop and grow as a character.

    Explanation of Effects:

Using Cognatism, Mental MAgic, and Sensory Illusion, the book taps into the subconscious thoughts of the being holding the tome and makes them appear upon the page, blessing the holder a sense of accomplishment and compulsion to move through the ballad that is their life. This is, of course, entirely a false account of their future though it instills a sense of being and purpose either way.

  3. What is your Minecraft Account Name?:

    Tahmas

How long have you played on LotC?:

I joined in 2015, and played for a short amount of time. So while it has been 3 years since I first logged on, it's only been the past 2 years that I've actively played.

How many hours per day/week are you available?:

4-11 GMT on Weekdays, almost always on weekends and holidays unless I have prior plans which will be announce beforehand. I do work some evenings from time to time but I'll still be available on Discord.

Have you read and do you thoroughly understand Magic Lore?:

    Yeah.

What Magic Lore do you hold the most experience with?:

I have a fairly vast knowledge on all Voidal Magic along with Voidal Creatures, and understanding on Cognatism, Runesmithing, Golemancy. Shades, Daeva, and Blood Magic. I could provide a list if you wish.

Write about a magic-related topic that you find interesting (e.g. How mental barriers work):

I'm going to need to copy and paste my answer from my last MT application as it still applies: While it would be very easy to state Cognatism as my favourite magic related topic, I'd have to go with simply how free-form and flowing Magic itself is in regards to the Void, it's horrors and every other aspect. Transfiguration has always been my favourite magic, simply due to how related to science it is. I, in real life, aim to become a Physics Teacher in the future and due to my fascination with science and all things concerning, I find myself attached to how Transmutation works in practice. To learn and understand how an object works, what it is, what it does and each and every property in order to manipulate that object. One must research the object, test upon it to determine it's melting point, at what point it alters into a gas, a solid or a liquid. The Alterationist must will and focus upon the object, and alter the properties of the object at his or her will to be as you wish it to be. It works by 'simply' by having extensive knowledge on particular materials and, whilst connecting to the void, visualising the object within the void through your connection and altering the material using the extensive knowledge possessed to project and alter the material before you as long as it continues to abide the laws of physics, and follows the rules of equivalent exchange. It's versatility and use in practical situations has always been a prized favourite of mine and it's an art that my character uses daily. Utility magic is the best kind of magic, and Transfiguration is the culmination of just genius concept tuned into a medium for people to use.

As an aside, I wanted to touch on the question from the Lore Team Application: Who do you not get along with on the Lore Team?

While there isn't anyone I do not explicitly get along with, I'm aware that in the past and in my stint as an Administrator I'm aware I upset a few people with decisions or ways that I've acted. I wanted to formally apologise for that. I can be quite a hotheaded person from time to time, and I'm aware that that can cause poor opinion. I'm sorry to any and all that I've pissed off in the past and I would personally like to put that behind us and try and move forward to help benefit the Magic Lore on the server, and the server in general.

As I said in the application before the forum was cleaned up, I've been back from a break for a while now and it's been nearly a year since I was staff. It's given me time to have a completely new perspective on things.

  4. While I heavily appreciate and am pleased to see that someone enjoys my lore enough to try and take it in a new direction and explore more possibilities, I have to say that I disapprove of this addition. I have many reasons for this, and I'll go into them as follows:

    1. Cognatism in and of itself is a 'Self Roleplaying Magic'. It is supposed to be purely developmental and internal, and provide no benefits to combat outside of enchanting capabilities. This is made this way because we felt that there were too many combat orientated magics and wanted one that was purely designed to function and enhance the individual's and those within the vicinity of the Cognat's roleplaying experience with Magic. It is a staple of Scholarly pursuits and should remain that way.
    2. Months ago, I attempted to write and submit an addition to Cognatism known as 'The Mind of the Horror' which expands upon the nature of the Horror, the interactions one has with the Horror, and a Prismal Loop that essentially allows for a character driven story which can be written and posted on the forums for Character Development in the same vein as the new Arcane Displacement/Shunting lore. The reason that this was denied was because Cognatism, in a nutshell, is way too large to even really be considered a feat.
    3. Cognatism should, for all intents and purposes, be a full-slot magic. The only reason this is not the case was due to the fact that no one wanted Cognatism as they focused more on SoyBoy Magical Nutbags who had all kinds of devastating combat magic as opposed to those which enhanced the roleplaying experience. We settled on keeping Cognatism a slot because that is where it will shine best and people will actually take up the Art due to it not taking one of their precious slots. Any form of addition will certainly bump it up in power and force it to become a slot magic once again.
    4. After reading over the Lore, and having a conversation with someone who cares about Cognatism and the way that is is roleplayed, we came to the conclusion that if this Lore was to be submitted or accepted, that instead it should be an addition or post-feat to Arcane Displacement/Shunting. Should the new submission by Zarsies (Bae) get accepted, this could act as an additional feat which requires Displacement/Shunting as a prerequisite to acquire. Both act in forms of altered dimensions, one from a very individual character driven standpoint and one from a combat one.
    5. As I said before, Cognatism is a very internal magic. Not just in the ways of Self-Roleplaying, but in the way that it interacts with the world. Cognatism is supposed to be an enhancement and aid to the mind of a character, not to their magical or physical capabilities. The Horror never actually teaches the Cognat something, it simply soaks the information in response for an optimised mental state. The Horror does not, and will never really care about the Cognat enough to actually give them more command over spells or the void in this way because they can simply find someone else to feed them that knowledge. Horrors are not like the Shade Parasite, and they do not die if their 'host' dies. They live on, and are able to select another to establish a connection with.

As I said before, to see that someone cares about my lore enough to make an addition is warming and I appreciate that, however this lore does not fit into what Cognatism was, is, or should be. For that reason, I am against this addition and believe that it should, as suggested above, be it's own individual feat unrelated to Voidal Horrors, or instead be involved with Arcane Displacement/Shunting. If you really wish to work on an update to Cognatism or an addition which provides nothing too extensive to bump it from it's shaky ground as a feat to a full-slot magic, then feel free to contact me and I will gladly work with you on such.

TL;DR, this is not what Cognatism is about, and should not have any kind of combat advantage. -1

  5. 3 hours ago, Man of Respect said:

Nice stuff. In comparison, how many diamonds would an aengul eye equal to? Like, would it be able to supply th entire belt with the same amount of time or more with a single aengul eye?

No actual numerical comparison has been made unfortunately, though the following post was made a little while ago by @Tox regarding Gemstones.

That's the best I can dig up I'm afraid, though if I was to hazard a guess I would say that 5 Diamonds would probably be enough to equal one Aengul Eye. They'd just take up a ton of space and require each to be recharged regularly.

  6. 3 minutes ago, Man of Respect said:

The big question is, how you would get these Aengul eyes since they're supposed to be... rare gems... I think...?

I was able to bring over some in my vault from the last map. And I'm only talking about using one Aengul Eye if they believed 4-5 Diamonds are not enough. They were not terribly difficult to acquire last map given practically all of the people who my character knew who would acquire them just gave them to him as they knew he'd make use of it.

  7. Ah that's quite alright. I was under the impression 300kg might actually be a big too much myself, as that is the lower end of a T5 Telekinetic. Perhaps if we lowered it to 200kg? This is roughly 330lbs as opposed to 660lbs. Additionally, I can substitute the Mana Gem for an Aengul Eye, or instead perhaps use multiple gems which encrust around the Belt with the same enchantment. Instead of being one Diamond for instance, we raise it to something like 4 or 5. I also do not want to have this used in combat whatsoever, so I will clarify that redline with the following changes:

    Changelog

    - Changed 300kg to an upwards limit of 200kg. When lifting something at this weight, the belt will drain mana from it's gems much faster.

    - The Belt is powered by 5 Diamond-quality Mana Gems.

    - The Belt does not and cannot function in combat, as while it does aid in making your armour a little less of a burden, the high speed movements and complicated actions one must perform during Combat are not what the belt was designed for and as such will provide absolutely no added benefit in combat.

Let me know if you feel like this is still too much or too little powered! @fighting evil by moonlight
