Et be time to have some fun drinking 'n the tavern and discuss future mineral & alchemical exploration within' the lands of Dúnfarthing! All shire-vassals are welcome, as well as all gobbos, musin, gnomes, and halflings!

All drinks are free! Meet up in the tavern in the Pumpkin Evening of this Pumpkin Day!

    WE BEAT THE DRAGONS!
    2024-01-28_13.15.00.png?ex=65c9627b&is=6

T'was a lovely and peaceful day in the shire. We were hosting a marriage between our Honorary Apollo and the Lubba of Lurin when suddenly EVIL attacked! The Demon/Dragon/Bad people things flew down from the skies and BURNED the gazebo where the wedding was being held, sending the guests scrambling into the lake for safety!
    2024-01-28_15.31.30.png?ex=65c9627b&is=6
HOWEVER: We held our own! Once the forces of EVIL landed we reacted swiftly, capturing a mage allied with the evil raiders and flanking the Demon/Dragon/Bad people as they slowly became encased in stone and covered in injuries! Soon we had DESTROYED the Demon/Dragon/Bad people and successfully DEFENDED the shire!

The Shire of Dúnwen and other peoples of the east cannot be so easily harassed when united! Praise Lord Knox, Long Live the Shire, and Long may the Newlyweds prosper!

    Yeah, that's what I mean.

That's all you can do anymore.

And believe it or not, but most people don't enjoy this being the only kind of interaction they are able to do

You can have multiple characters if you want to play something other than a darkspawn to engage in slice of life RP or whatever.

  4. 34 minutes ago, Agy said:

Just because you don't get to pretty much PK an entire Dark CA Character because a blood test worked

Being outed darkspawn isn’t the same as getting force-PKed since you still have lairs to live in and all of your dark magic powers for CRP (some of which are quite strong) as well as CRP default to use it with to boot.

  5. Darkspawn testing makes perfect RP sense. Cities that want to secure themselves fron darkspawn related conflict would just deny entry to sketchy characters entirely without it. Either way you’re not getting in. This is more of a problem with gatehouses and guard RP than anything else.

“Here in Dúnfarthing we SUPPORT the Paladins as fellow FREEDOM lovers! The tyrannical states of Hyspia and Haense oppose the Paladins because they have no FREEDOM to vote and no FREEDOM of religion! They cannot comprehend that those who worship different from them may still lend aid in the fight against EVIL darkspawn!

Only FREE nations can truly deal with the threats of evil, for those who oppose freedom are evil themselves!

  7. OOC:

    Hello there!
This is an event designed to simulate a single day of halfling life as best as possible.

Everybody starts at the beginning of the hour, having just woken up. Their characters then go about their day as they would IRP, eventually falling back to sleep at the end of the hour, which ends the event. Working, eating, talking, and other things your character typically does in a day can and should be roleplayed. There will be a single roleplay prompt happening during the hour to promote interaction, but attending it isn’t mandatory. Feel free to do as you wish. The intention isn’t to attract a large quantity of halflings into one location at a time, but rather to create as much immersion as possible.

    SoL Event Checklist (Optional):

    -Wake up ( )
    -Eat something ( )

    -Do some task ( )

    -Interact with someone ( )

    -Eat another thing ( )

    -Go to sleep ( )

~A Peregrin by the Peregrin burrow~

    Dear Peregrins,

Since our two families have been growing so much lately, we ought to celebrate by holding a small party! I will be cooking up a mighty fine feast in my burrow, and I hope the Peregrins can contribute something as well!

So, put simply, Realm Bloat represents the dilution of activity.

Why consider Realm Bloat to be any different from existing realms purchasing tiles to settle vassals upon? Both generate new settlements and roleplay hubs through increasing the amount of settled tiles on the map, and only Realm Applications even give staff the option to decline it.

If you view the server as a dot density map with all of the political boundaries removed, then the processes of Realm Applications & buying new tiles are identical. Many new Realm Applications are from communities that were first CREATED as VASSALS, and thus the process of vassalization as a means to spread out and increase the quantity of roleplay hubs and communities on the server cannot be discounted!

We get too obsessed with our fun little realm toys that we don't realize that merging all of the human realms into a giga oren won't centralize anything unless all their cities get nuked with it too.

  9. 1 hour ago, squakhawk said:

Halflings are an example, with functioning vassals last map, and getting a settlement right at fuckin cloud temple which was still mostly empty after being told by Llir they'd get an exception where they couldn't expand and could just exist, to now this map them owning a ton of tiles despite still being that same settlement

We have multiple tiles because we have multiple vassals on them. I roleplayed in two of these vassal settlements today; they are not just random barony ghost towns and have real leadership, event planning, and pay their taxes on time. Dúnfarthing as a realm extends beyond the shire and we very much deserve our sub-forum classification as being a multi-racial realm since there are many humans, elves, musin, halflings, etc. with us.

If you believe there should only be one of these multi-racial realms then go talk to @Hearth he already has plans in the works in that regard. It is essentially no different to have us own some territory and tax the vassals on it than if a Giga-Sutica were to do the same, however.

And there was never any limit on how many ghost-town vassals were allowed so the concern about empty towns is largely disingenuous.

What LOTC needs is some universal land system that does away with Nation Status and differences between Realm Capital vs non-capital, etc. Put all of the vassals and independent settlements and cities and everything else on the same system and let interactions between settlements (tributary, vassal and overlord, allies, enemies, whatever) be determined dynamically.

  11. Why would you lose autonomy to join a larger realm when doing so makes you-

    1: lose your capital mine

2: pay the 150 tile upkeep for what used to be a capital of your independent realm

3: equally as able to support other people as a small realm vs being a part of an empire (no alliance limits)

More, smaller realms = less tile upkeep (letting you lower taxes), more mines for more resources, and no other penalties besides being able to lose your non-core tiles via full subjugation faster w/ war rules.

If capital mines were reworked and capitals of realms paid full tile upkeep (not the minimum realm upkeep we have currently) then diplomatic unification would be far easier. Were this the case we’d already see a united eastern republic and maybe a new Oren too.

  12. blockexchange is the greatest plugin addition to LOTC in a long time. Many players do not use it a ton, but for BUILDERS specifically /blockexchange is amazing and makes playing on the server significantly easier.

give us insta-mine tools as well and building on LOTC will get even better.

    Pumpkin Sewer Exploration

We've been hearing some strange sounds coming out of the Pumpkin Sewers (where all of the waste produced by pumpkin farming goes) and will require some brave adventurers to check it out. Bring whatever equipment you think will be necessary, there's probably something in there!

  16. It was a crisp morning on The Grand Harvest of Year 161, Second Age, when a fresh crop of Pumpkins from Dúnfarthing went south on a Grand Adventure to spread Pumpkin-cheer and merriment across Aevos!

    Screenshot_2023-12-30_at_1.43.56_PM.png?

First they rolled south to Balian, where the Pumpkins found many new converts. The clergy of Balian donned their new Pumpkin-hats, turning the coronation into a Pumpkin-coronation!

    2023-12-30_18.57.26.png?ex=65a335bd&is=6

From Balian, the Pumpkins rolled west to Haelun'or, making it through the tough gate security on the promise of Pumpkins only knowing how to spread PEACE. After all, when have you seen a violent Pumpkin?

    2023-12-30_19.03.40.png?ex=65a335be&is=6

The Pumpkins claimed the throne of Haelun'or as their own, declaring the first ever Pumpkin Republic, drank a lot of alcohol, and were merry.

    2023-12-30_19.35.31.png?ex=65a335be&is=6

From Haelun'or, the Pumpkins rolled over to the neighboring land of the Iron Horde, where they were met with a warm welcome. Many of the local orcs, goblins, and honoraries joined up with the Pumpkin crew, turning it from a small band of plump Pumpkins into a small army of Gourds.

    2023-12-30_19.50.55.png?ex=65a335be&is=6

The Pumpkins rolled north to Veletz, filling its tavern with life and activity (and many Pumpkins). There were Pumpkins as far as the eyes could see, and for a brief moment, the entire city was Pumpkin, and all stood in awe at the Pumpkin-ification.

    2023-12-30_19.55.31.png?ex=65a335bf&is=6

The Pumpkins then moved on to the main castle of Veletz, keeping with the exploratory spirit of Pumpkins, where they found a secret path through a window into a strange courtyard filled with many peculiar soldier-gardeners. These soldiers were less than happy to see the Pumpkins entering the courtyard, having had a lot of experience with Gardening and knowing of the Pumpkins invasive nature.

It was a massacre. The gardener-soldiers destroyed the Pumpkins in no time at all, leaving the ground of the courtyard covered in orange slime and Pumpkin guts. Thus ended the greatest Pumpkin Raid yet seen in Aevos.
