A ROOFTOP ASSAILANT

A quiet day in Helena was brutally interrupted on the 13th, a girl no older than 16 attacked whilst searching for a lost family heirloom.

 

Anya Francis, an Imperial Servant and student was last seen in the square, looking for help to find a lost Lorraine Cross necklace that belonged to her Great Grandmother, and was followed by the General Illythia Arator to Ophelia Horen’s Public Garden, where she had been studying her texts on the Elven language. Whilst searching with the General, bolts began to rain down from the rooftops, one striking the young Anya through her foot, pinning it to the ground. Her screams and the General’s call for help summoned Charles-Louis Preussens, who spotted the attacker on the move. In protecting Anya, the General suffered a bolt to her right arm. Sometime after that, the Archbishop was shot at, but thankfully, was not injured.

“A girl asked me to help her find her necklace- simple enough. She’s telling me about her studies when she’s shot through the foot with a bolt- piled onto her to protect her further but I was shot too, damn near would’ve struck my head were the bowman any damn good. They’re not quick, and they’re not accurate - but they’re sneaky. Reminds me of The Slayer giving us trouble, damn near had a heart attack when the fools helmet was taken off. Be on the lookout and stay safe.”

With his assistance, and that of Minister Vexalia Lotheryn and a few others, the attacker took an arrow to the thigh and fell from the roof down onto the main road, where he was bound and knocked unconscious. Whilst all were focused on the captured, another masked man revealed himself from the opposite side of the Public Gardens, sending a bolt into Anya’s shoulder, just before she was tackled to the ground by Charles-Louis Preussens, pushing the bolt even deeper into her. The girl was brought to the clinic, but has since been proclaimed dead.

 

The second assailant escaped without a scratch, and nobody has information on his whereabouts.

 

The men dressed themselves lightly, in shades of red and a mask of a jade colour and unknown material. The captured had nothing on him but his weapons, a dagger, crossbow and bolts. He was simply a man underneath the mask.

After the Minister took her time to delve deep into the mind of the later revealed Crooked Man, we obtained a motive; To purge the impurity of Vanity from within the Empire.

 

This sparked a verbal debate, whether to jail the man for further questioning, or to end him there. The Crooked Man, clearly lacking a proper mental state, seemed to wish for his death. The Princess Theodosia wished for him to be further questioned, and thus her wish was granted.

 

Upon being jailed, the assailant whistled a happy tune, and when questioned on it he recited his story; That of the Crooked Man.

 

“There was a CROOKED Man,

And he walked a CROOKED mile,

The CROOKED Man stepped forth and rang the CROOKED bell,

And thus is CROOKED soul spiralled into a CROOKED hell,

Murdered his CROOKED people, and laughed a CROOKED laugh,

Now no longer did his CROOKED people walk down the CROOKED path.”

 

Afterwards, and without answering further questions, the Crooked Man made use of the arrow still lodged in his thigh to take his own life whilst the Princess, the Minister, and the Marshal looked on.

 

There is still an ongoing investigation on the attack.

“I shall lay low the apprehension of Our Adrian people. They shall evict and banish the men of Nottingham, allowing not a single one to stay within their realm. They shall join us in our battle against banditry, evicting and banishing the men of the Reivers and putting any one which they can find to the sword instantly. They shall offer up the Lord Demetrio to Our agents to be executed and beheaded for the crime of assault and attempting to murder one of Our trusted Councillors.

  

I shall send my Dragon Knights with my full Imperial authority. To ensure this treasonous behavior comes to a halt. Should any harm beseech them, I will treat it as an act of aggression. They may put any they see acting against the Crown to death, or try them in Imperial court. You will give them full access to Ves, keeping no door locked from them.

  

I shall obtain due payment for your attack on our Archbishop. You allowed a man of Adria to lay hands on a man of the cloth. For this, you shall pay the Holy See in Mina and Relic. No harm shall ever come to a man of the church under my rule.”

Following the declaration, late in the eve, a grouping of fifteen Dragon Knights, led by the Grand Knight Ser Darius Ault, marched to the Adrian city of Ves in search of the Lord Demetrio.

 

Ser Darius Ault questioned their Marshal on the whereabouts of Demetrio d’Montelliano, though it seemed that nobody knew anything, aside from a young woman by the name of Emigliana, who later revealed herself as the sister of Demetrio. She was allowed to pen him a letter under the watchful eye of Márton Horen whilst Ser Darius Ault and Ser Uthred Gromach searched the city and Lord Demetrio’s manor, which was found to be empty. The only thing notable within was a secret passage, though the entrance did not budge.

 

Upon the Knight’s return back to Ves’ city square, Ser Darius Ault received a letter from the wanted Lord, reading:

"Ser Darius Ault, it was a pleasure knowing you. Over the years though, it seems our relationship has greatly changed, do not try to find me. I have left Adria for my family's ancestral home in Aeldin, perhaps there I shall be nothing but a simple shephard of sheep, or perhaps the gears of fate and the creator shall smile upon me and offer me a second chance just as the emperor offered you the same.  Though we will see old friend, as I write this I am fast in sailing away from Arcas my friend. I can tell you one thing that I know of with surety, I shall miss the purple of the imperium, truly I already am as I see the stars and sea race past and I doubt and fear that grand color will dominate Arcas when I return." This sparked rage in Ser Darius Ault, but after being calmed and a small suggestion, he called for the sister, Emigliana Sofia, to be brought back to Helena simply for questioning. She, along with her servant, Anastasia Lanova, left willingly with the Knights.

 

Emigliana was brought to the holding cells, where Minister Vexalia Lotheryn comforted her, and Ser Darius Ault questioned her. She was next moved to the Knight’s home to provide more comfort.

 

Her claim for not knowing the location of her brother was as followed; She was within the ‘tower’ and did not know of the claims against her brother or his whereabouts. Though, she did suggest that Demetrio’s twin, Sigismondo, could have aided and travelled with him.

 

Despite no harm coming to the sister, her crazed family swarmed the house, screaming vulgarities in hopes it would persuade the Knight to allow Emigliana to be released sooner. The situation escalated quickly, and resulted in the servant, Anastasia, speaking out against Ser Darius Ault and the Imperial Princess Theodosia directly, in which doing so she broke several laws. Though, Ser Darius Ault, feeling sympathy for the panicked mother and friend, allowed them to leave in peace and without punishment.

 

No arrests were made.

The Deep Cold, 1708

 

To ensure peace and a peaceful transition during this time of integration for the Adrian people, Knights of the Imperial Order of the Dragon were sent to the Adrian city of Ves. Though, whilst going about their duties, a female attacker shot at Ser Petro with a crossbow. Upon a call for backup, the citizenry of Ves grew rowdy, perhaps simply stressed and scared during this time of change.

 

With men at his side, the Grand Knight Ser Darius Ault arrived, and the confrontation ended with the attacker being removed by him from Ves, and brought back to the Capital City of Helena, where she, a young woman by the name of Cecily, was tried and punished. Ser Darius Ault removed her hands.

 

Ser Darius Ault later returned to the Adrian city of Ves due to report that the Archbishop was yet again attacked there. This time, a young boy by the name of Apollo was arrested, and brought back to Helena for questioning. His trial was witnessed by a large crowd, of both citizens of Helena and Adrians. Ser Darius, yet again in a bout of mercy, deemed the child impressionable, and placed him in the care of Bishop Boris of Adria, to ensure he remained on the correct path from there on out.

 

It was later reported that the previous attacker, Cecily, was the one to plan and order the second assassination attempt on the Archbishop. The first to attempt it, Junar and Arsene, were apprehended later that day and fined a sum of one-thousand minas.

 

Cecily was later found in the sewers of the Adrian city of Ves, face first in the water. It appeared she had broken her legs from the fall from the manhole, and drowned.

     Since the beginning of the recent Wood Elven and Eldarian cultural revival, many old Tribes have reclaimed their ilmyumier and their ancient customs. Nevertheless, each has existed as a separate polity, even when kin from two different Seeds join in marriage, each partner usually retains the identity of the Seed of their birth or original adoption.

 

     This was not always the case, in ancient times before living memory, the Tribes of old had complex kinship ties that bound Seeds together, often creating large moieties that encompassed dozens of clans. These blood-ties between families came largely from intermarriage, and bound the fates of two clans into one, creating talonnii'orlomerne, otherwise known as brother clans or it’s direct translation, Family Unbroken or United Family.

 

     Elven clans bound by blood-ties supported one another unconditionally, in times of prosperity, famine, war and peace. Often, brother clans adopted each other’s gods, each clan adopting the other’s patron Mani as their own.

 

     These complex blood-ties were lost as the Era of the Seeds came to an end, but begins anew with the joining of the Caerme’onn and Ithelanen tribes in the modern era. Prior to the wedding of Chieftain Rivaldir Ithelanen and Chieftess Aelin Caerme’onn in 1703, the two took time to discuss with each other and their Seed Elders the terms and practices that would eventually come of their union.

     This sacred act is most easily defined as a unification between Seeds - where the Seeds maintain their own morals and values along with their respective Seed name, while simply looking upon their brother clan as their own brethren, embracing and celebrating them as if they were members of the same Seed. Members of the first Seed may not take on traditions of the second Seed. In the instance of the Caerme’onn and Ithelanen traditions, Caerme’onns may not participate in inking themselves with Esalathe’lan of lost Ithelanen members. They may still mourn and grieve the loss of their talonnii'orlomerne brethren, but the inking of Esalathe’lan is deemed a sacred tradition only permitted to be upheld by those of Ithelanen.

 

     Others seeking to join a clan bound in talonnii'orlomerne, may only join one of the Seeds - not both, and will complete the trials of only the Seed they desire to join. They would still gaze upon their brother clan as their own brethren as all others of the Seeds do.

     When the two Chieftains are wed, any children brought forth into the world as a result of their union, along with the pair themselves, gain a new marking that is a depiction of both their Seed’s ilmyumiers. The marking is simply meant to show the bond between Chieftains, and the name and sacred union to which their children belong to.

The Vel’seda Bloodline Marking

 

     The Chieftain’s spawn also adopt a bloodline name and bear this only during their human years. This bloodline name does not mark them as noble, nor their Seed. The children of the Chieftains must still take the trials to join their chosen Seed, and until they decide to take these trials, they may live under their chosen bloodline name shared by them and the Chieftain couple only. Like any other mali’, the children may choose which Seed they wish to join later on in life. And just like any other mali’, they cannot take on both Seeds’ names and traditions. The children remain equal to all other Seed brethren, regardless of their markings - yet this equal status may not prevent the other Seed members from revering the children of their Chieftains.

     The conjoining of Seeds to become talonnii'orlomerne also grants a new resolution to internal and external issues. Disputes between clansmen, or with their brethren, are able to be resolved by the Elders of both Seeds rather than just one. A clan Elder or Chieftain may not, however, deal one-sided and biased punishment to a member of the opposite Seed.

 

     The union between talonnii'orlomerne acts as a full alliance. This allows the Chieftains and their Seeds in times of crisis to function as one brutal force, to challenge any outside conflict or opposition.

     The formation of this bond between Seeds is a most sacred one, a bond that may only be immediately broken in the case of a Divorce between the unifying Chieftains only, or a unanimous vote between a Chieftain and their elders. Splitting of the Seeds is such a tremendous deal due to the fact that it’s akin to disowning half your family, and due to how sacred the bond is between talonnii'orlomerne, the splitting of them is deemed a heavy tragedy - and should only ever be done after immense conversation and discussion. It would be unheard of for the second Seed to not be aware of the first Seed’s intentions.

 

     A divorce between the original unifying Chieftains is a cause to prevent the Seeds from forming a rivalry between their talonnii'orlomerne brethren, in the case of an unhealthy separation in the future. It is to keep from the Seeds from warring each other, and creating an imbalance within the society in which they reside.

 

     Seed Elders and members may initiate a split, not out of spite or anger, but rather out of a difference in ideals and values that have grown since the initial union, or a changing of Chieftains to one with plans to shift their Seed onto a new path.

The tanned ‘ame woman walked with light footsteps, bells that hang from her antler headdress twinkling as they moved through the field of flowers. She delicately holds onto the mali’ child’s small hand, eventually pivoting and leaning over to swoop the child up into her arms as she began to grow tired along the walk back. A hand comfortingly ran up and down along her back as the Stag Princess hummed soft songs of her ancestors and of the Mani, allowing the child’s head to rest on her shoulder as her eyes, a few verses in, fluttered shut.

Communion: Communing with nature is the act of understanding, and tuning into a Druid’s bond with the natural life around them. The ability to commune is one that comes naturally upon attunement, which generally presents itself as the ‘hum’ of the world around them. In order for a Druid to to truly harness this ability, though, their connection to the life around them must be sharpened with constant training and practice, so that they may communicate more directly with the flora and/or fauna around them. This is the basis of all Druidic gifts, because a Druid that can’t commune, can’t request the aid of nature around them whatsoever.

 

Control: Control is essentially the sibling of communion, as they go hand in hand. Control allows you to have more influence over the natural living world around it, whether you’re requesting a flower to grow, an animal to obey a command, or a tree to sprout, none of this would be possible without control. This sub-type, like the others, is learned through consistent practice, and a Druid wouldn’t simply be able to do much, right as they’re attuned.

 

Write up a lesson that your character would give to a student:

         

Amidst the tranquil ambience of the forest, a duo stood. The one leading the two looked towards the other, speaking in a soft tone.

 

“Have you gotten used to the voices yet, llir?” Aelin asks her quiet student.

 

The young, newly attuned Druid’s eyes flitted around the canopy of the forest, squinting slightly. It took them some time to respond, but after a few moments, he looked over towards his teacher, perhaps a bit anxiously. “Everything sounds muffled, as if it’s there, but just out of my reach. I can’t quite make sense of any of it.”

 

“Follow my instruction,” Aelin responded simply, continuing shortly thereafter. “Do not speak. Simply listen, and do what I say.”

 

The young Druid looked as if he was about to respond, though decided against it, and simply offered Aelin a dip of his head in acknowledgement.

 

“Close your eyes. Breath in through your nose, and out through your mouth. Drown out any other sound from your mind, focus only upon the hum, and my voice.” Aelin spoke softly, her voice nearing a whisper, as she gave the lesson, doing her best to not break her student’s concentration.

 

Aelin’s words had registered, and the newly attuned closed his eyes and did as she said. One could visibly see his form relax, as the seconds ticked past. His head lowered somewhat, the further that he focused. His breathing seemed to grow more steady, as the voices entered his young mind.

 

“Tell me, what do you hear, llir?”

 

For a while, there was only further silence. He was far too focused on his connection, to respond. Though after a few moments, he raised his head, opening his now verdant green glowing eyes, and looking towards his teacher. Though his gaze drifted away, towards a dandelion that grew nearby. Or rather, a ladybug which had landed upon the dandelion.

 

Aelin’s gaze followed her students, and she seemed to understand just what he was hearing, certainly far better than he understood it. “Remember your lessons, do not force anything. Persuade it that you mean it no harm, then ask that it fly away. You’ve practiced, you should be able to do this.”

 

The student simply responded with a slight nod, his form a little shaky, as he took a couple of steps forward, towards the ladybug, and the dandelion. Carefully kneeling down, despite his form growing weaker, as time moved on. His thoughts grew somewhat disjointed, confusing, as he focused upon the tiny insect. A slightly uncomfortable feeling washing over him, as he connected with the foreign creature for the first time. One could truly look at him, and tell that he was deep within his mind. Though it became clear that he was successful, in his attempt, as the insect turned somewhat, and he felt its eyes looking to him. It seemed to trust him, though, his connection aiding him in gaining said trust. Shortly thereafter, it spread its wings, and flew away, deeper into the forest.

 

“I must say, I’m proud, llir.” Aelin chimed in, as she watched the interaction between the Druid and the insect. “You did well. I told you, your practice would pay off. Not long ago, such an interaction would have likely made you faint.”

 

The student broke his connection immediately afterwards, and let out a tired huff. Taking in deep breaths, with a somewhat dazed look about him. He eventually pushed himself upwards to stand once more and looked to his teacher with a tired, yet satisfied smile.

 

Aelin walked over, once he stood up, and reached her arms out in aims to give her student a tight hug. After a few moments, she relinquished the hug, patting his back as she began leading the way out of the forest. “Come, it’s time for prayer, as well as an offering to Hamatsa. We need to make sure you’re refreshed and ready, for your next lesson. It won’t be near as easy, as this one.” She said happily, as they walked off together.

They have worked for it. They’ve been doing their RP and I see them around actively.

I’m not sure if they had an activity region or a specific area they focused their RP, and as far as I know, they’ve mostly wandered and done their RP in multiple places. If I’m wrong, please correct me on that though haha.

Would love to see that group get a charter after all the work I’ve seen them put in. xx

Word is spread all throughout Elvenesse as letters are dropped into the hands of citizens by sleek and jet-black carrier ravens.

 

You are formally invited to The First Great Gladewynni Build Off, hosted happily by myumierir’sul. Citizens of the Kingdom of Gladewynn, the Silver State of Haelun’or and the Mother Grove are invited to compete in constructing a statue of a selection of our dear Mani. This is a chance to show your dedication to the Mani, and flaunt your creative expertise.

 

The rules are as follows:

1. You may construct a statue for any Mani excluding Morea, Moccus, Amaethon, Bolomormaa, and Kwakani.
2. You are limited to ONE ELVEN HOUR of construction time.
3. You are limited to a space of 8 meters by 8 meters.
4. You must be prepared to display an original design. (OOC Note: Schematica will not be allowed during this competition.)

 

Materials will be provided by a partnered effort between Gladewynn and myumierir’sul, to ensure everyone has a fair start and opportunity.

 

The High Priestesses of myumierir’sul will be judging each statue carefully, and will pick a set of three winners, who will win a multitude of differing prizes.

 

FIRST PLACE: This winner’s statue will be showcased beside the barracks, and blessed to become the newest shrine in Caras Eldar. They will also receive a sum of minas, prizes from the High Pristesses, and a half-body portrait painted by the elfess Num’i Rya.

 

SECOND PLACE: This winner’s statue may also be showcased within Caras Eldar. They will also receive a sum of minas, prizes from the High Priestesses,  and a bust portrait painted by the elfess Num’i Rya.

 

THIRD PLACE: This winner will receive a sum of minas, and prizes from the High Priestesses.
