  1. The Arch-Lector, the author of the modern Owynist Rite, reads the essay from who he believed to be the Sword-Bearer with the most heart. He nodded approvingly with a rare grin, for Mathurin had summarized his own views on the subject with eloquence and pride. Truly, GOD was proud as well. "Perhaps we need to conjure a litany for the Alchemist."

  2. THE GREAT DU LOC INFERNO

    4 Mensis Godfreditis, 2A45

It was a day like any other in Du Loc. The birds chirped with glee while the citizens screamed out in mental anguish. For a year or more the madness of the city had been growing with indifference; the citizenry often spoke of Aengul-Daemonica, Palebeasts, Dragonmen and all sorts of kindred venal beings. It was the cryptid Moth-Man, however, who foretold of doom. With the Du Loc Boogie came the loss of mental competence. Disaster was certainly on the horizon.

    QmNNN9BMwogXzB3sQYyPPORE1oMfzwqp-owrURwsrgDzuGoPrS0Zd6g9t7ILPtvfFTvBJFz1lGzmJV276kfsCaHDUACl7OPvtFA418KlXAmZLZNdRCOKINT8Xuq3Yp8eIzLiLFOj=s0

And so it was that disaster came. A humble priest ventured into the bustling marbled metropolis that was Du Loc seeking to redeem the elusive and prized “Brae Buck”. For years this cryptic currency had lain dormant, a mere scheme hatched by Lord Brae and the Banker Union to siphon mina from the citizenry when they sought to exchange their coin for useless paper. Lord Brae was witty, refusing to give in to the priest’s desires for monetary exchange- at least, he was witty until a woman of the East came bearing a sack full of Star-Steel. She had whiffed the oncoming economic bubble that were Brae Bucks and sought to provide them a basis of value by backing them with the Star-Steel Standard. In but a moment Brae Bucks transformed from a worthless piece of paper into something truly valuable. Quentin was cornered.

Immediately, the Eastern Woman demanded that she be permitted to purchase Quentin’s Roof. Quentin obliged because he was a believer in the free market. This sealed his fate. Soon everyone in the town sought to redeem their Brae Bucks - it was a frenzy. The citizenry demanded recompense which Lord Brae knew he could not provide. The Banker Union made their appearance, attempting to assure the populace that the bubble was destined to pop and that the Wheat Standard was a more stable basis for Du Locian currency. This INFURIATED the crowd.

Shouts of hanging and destruction ensued. The Banker fled to take as much gold as he could before vacating the citizenry entirely. The crowd set ablaze to the bank, shouting “Kill the Bankers!”. Ker and Men alike swarmed into the inferno to fill their pockets with valuable coins, oblivious to the disaster unfolding. The decorative banners connecting the bank to the rest of the town caught spark and ignited; soon, the entire town was burning.

It was the greatest catastrophe to have ever occurred in the history of descendent-kind. Du Loc lay in ash, burnt by the greed and wroth of its own citizenry. A Hyspian wept, Lectors barked out in defiance and Lord Brae accelerated his descent into madness. The doom foretold by the Moth Man now came to bare. Du Loc is Dead - Long Live Nu Loc.

             Metztli (RIP)

Briefly explain the lore behind this construct or creature:

Kharajyr are a humanoid-ocelot hybrid race created by the Daemon Metztli who is colloquially referred to as “Munna”, meaning mother in the common tongue. Though the process by which Metztli was able to create the Kharajyr is unknown, it is fabled that she perfected her creations with the birth of the first White Kha - the Tlatlanni. And so it was that the ancient Kha obeyed their emperor of white fur, for they believed them to be the extension of Metztili’s will. Before long, the first recorded Tlatlanni, Tla’Jhaan, sought to usurp the worship of Metztli via the assertion that they had achieved godhood thesmelf. A civil war raged within the home continent of Khalenwyr and Munna, who became devilishly enraged, erupted a volcano in its center, effectively obliterating the ancient empire of the Kharajyr. Tla’Xerdun, the son of Tla’Jhaan, struck his father down in the midst of the chaos and led a portion of the faithful to Metztli to a new land, Va’Khajra, which bordered upon Asulon.

As such, the Kharajyr were once deeply religious people who paid homage to their creator and who vowed to worship no other. It is why following the death of Metztli did the morale of the Kharajyr effectively shatter. Many now embrace a secular lifestyle which often revolves around simple survival and trade. Those remnant Kha who claw their way through life today are encouraged, if not required, to partake in the Lunar Pilgrimage whereby they visit Khalenwyr to become in tune with their cultural heritage and accept the loss of their deity. Though the Kha no longer strive for the greatness of their maker, they do share an intense sense of melancholy for their death. It is for this reason that the symbol of the Turned Trident is so prevalent - it is the respect for a once mighty culture which has since fallen into decay.

Within the Kharajyr race there lies numerous subspecies of Kha who were used for their specific capabilities. The Kha’Pantera with their blackened fur would lurk in the dark for the Empire of yore and dissuade hunters from preying upon their people. Though their strealth in the dark is unmatched, in the sun their fur shines a blue hue which sticks them out like a sore thumb. The Kha’Tigrasi, who resemble tigers, are the mightiest of the Kharajyr via their immense strength, staggering size and powerful jaws; though, they are rather slow in comparison to their fellow Kha. The Kha’Cheetrah, yellow/cream and spotted, are slender beings who possess great agility and reflexes yet strength comparable to that of a goblin. In the ancient times the Kha’Cheetrah would be used as a clerical class within the Empire.

Lastly, the Kha’Leparda possesses a coat of fur usually in a hue of brown, cream or yellow, sometimes with spots. They normally grow no taller than a height of 5”10 and seldom shorter than 5”0. These Kharajyr are the most human-like due to their anatomy and posture; yet, like all Kharajyr, their cat-like faces, shorter tails and rounded ears make them clearly distinct from the descendent races. A jack of all trades, the Kha’Leparda would often serve as diplomats for the Empire and could train themselves to do whatever they desired as long as they remained committed, a quality very useful in a post Metztli world.

The abilities of the Kha in general are varied and useful. Their eyes are magnificent in the dark, needing only a lightsource equivalent to the moon to see greater than any other descendent naturally; however, in areas of near or total darkness they would be as humble as any other. When falling, it is within their nature to twist their bodies and land upright to ensure their safety. It is made obvious that Kha who fall from deathly heights splat on the ground all the same should one ever have to witness it. Never unarmed, a Kharajyr is able to extend their claws roughly two inches in order to slice through flesh and cloth; though, it is not wise to try this on armor or hardened materials lest they risk breakage. The sweet allure of sugar is capable of driving a Kharajyr wild with energy as well, making it a risky substance to consume unless one sought to run a marathon. Owynists have claimed that the Kharajyr possess nine lives but this is unproven and likely untrue.

If this construct or creature has some form of aesthetic choice, can you describe how they look?

Kha'Lepardas are described above. The one I intend to play will be a simple spotless variant with brownish-yellow fur. Ri'Tiir would be 5"10, standard weight (150 lbs) and wearing some kind of robe/clothing. I welcome any form of face suggestions as I am a skinner.

  5. Birds, for years, have been used in conjunction with people stalling emotes in order to get reinforcements. It's especially strange when people have their creatures locate the person they're attempting to contact with zero effort even if that creature has never met them before. People also use other types of animals, such as penguins, ducks, wolves, etc. to deliver their messages which violates my fragile immersion.

If people want to send letters to their friends that's fine - but make it so it's delivered to a mail hub in a city rather than the individual. That way, letters can only be sent if one is either out of conflict or at the town's aviary. The recipient would be unable to receive the bird if they are in conflict or otherwise busy as they've yet to check their mail. It's annoying to have someone break RP suddenly with an emote of a great falcon landing on their shoulder delivering a message.

Invest in mail, not heat-seeking torpedos.

  6. Spoiler

I very much like the concept of canonist Farfolk, St. Nafis would be proud. However, I am curious as to why this sub-culture opted to use the term "Godani". In all my time on LOTC, it's been primarily used by Raev oriented Orthodox Canonists. Were the Abdallah converted by Orthodox missionaries? Did they adopt the term by the mixing of outsiders into their families? Unless I missed something while reading, it seems like a big point of cultural history to not include.

  7. Alas, unbeknownst to the combatants of that fateful day, the Lector Dante did leave Ramsfield in search of the Dame not more than a Saint's Minute after she had departed. Upon a coal-black steed did he search the countryside from Ramsfield to the beachhead of Camp Ember; he found neither the Dame nor that of his former mentor, Galway. In a cruel twist of fate, none in the Third Mission even knew the existence of the Church of the First Ember.

Perhaps, the Lector thought, she returned to Providence to cool off and plan her wedding. Another theory crept into his skull - that she may have been intercepted by one of Sarena's many scouts. The last thing he wanted to believe was her encountering the Wise-Brother and meeting an untimely demise.

Regardless of what the Sword-Bearer dreaded, he knew only one truth: He would duel Galway and end the bloodshed. Whether he would succeed was only known by the Creator.

The mage themselves doesn't suffer problems from the potion, its that reacts to them. If a mage connects while holding a potion then it explodes and likely causes them harm depending on what it is. Non-mages don't really have to worry about anything since there's a clause against weaponizing it.

My concern is that alchemy is the great equalizer for non-magicians bar crossbows; Would a will-o-bottle become inherently useless then if I tried throwing it at a guy connecting to the void? Unsure if that's what you mean by weaponizing it.

  10. I'm a smooth brain who uses potions but doesn't make them:

    1. Does this mean magical connections short circuit or do the potions themselves explode?
    2. What happens if I throw a potion at a mage, do they lose their connection? If I stand near them, do they lose their connection?
    3. I've no clue how mana is extracted but would this affect the production of Auric Oil?

  11. Unfortunately, Yoppl, your family tree exhibits a glaring error on your part. Saint Julia of Paradisus was not Saint Julia; in fact, she was Saint Juli'el the Elf-Wife of Horen. It is well documented within Owynist archives that Juli'el was indeed an elf, a Dark-Elf, and I will provide to you some reasoning as to why this is the case.

    1. Harren had an Oedipus complex, explaining his lust for the Wildewynn Elves.
    2. Owyn was a farfolk - how else would he have gained his darkened flesh? I implore you to put dark-gray as an additive layer over your heartlander skin tone and see what happens.
    3. Instinctive attraction to mix tribes for millennia - in fact, the Scrolls are wrong in this regard as they are blessed unions. By creating mixed offspring, we are both increasing our lifespans and aiding the elven population to regain fertility.
    4. It is phenomenally rare to witness a human die of old age - this is because we have latent Elven blood flowing through our veins.
    5. It took humanity millennia to realize that the Elven calendar was no longer applicable to the current state of man - we used to follow it blindly since the first Mother was, in fact, an elf.

Lair Name: Temple of the Flaming Covenant

Proposed Lair Locations (Highlight 3 on the map):
Preferably we would position our lair on a cliff-face - however, if neither complete circles are obtainable, we would hope to establish a base somewhere about the dotted area or its extending beach

Lair Lore (could link to an existing creature or other lore) (1000 words minimum):
The Lectorate of Owyn, having vowed to avoid the politics of secular “normals”, have at last decided to strike out on their own in hopes of establishing a temple where they might be able to practice their religious beliefs in peace and without the interference of worldly governments. The philosophy of the Lectorate dictates that those under its employ should venture about the world and uproot iniquitous beings wherever they might be encountered, and to obtain and store the knowledge of the world. The Temple of the Flaming Covenant, in the Lector’s eyes, will provide a sense of security and tranquility to their mission as they will gain peace of mind knowing that their assets will not be seized by a corrupt secular or stolen by a feral ratman. Below are highly relevant documents to clarify the structure and belief systems of the Owynist Lectors.

    OWYNISM
Lectors of Owyn [CREDIT TO CHASE]

Lair Build and Infrastructure (photos required):
As it violates the philosophy of the group to build in any capacity which would warp the natural environment with forced terraforming or grandeur, we have refrained from dedicating our time to the construction of a complete temple until it is decided whether the application will be accepted and, should we be granted a lair, where it would be situated.

    m9-nfX6j36pXFhxQ8lFA7sipMiPUJw8jpEGuxfzjLwcqW25QPARIoCxqxFFSUHHkFoGNMDH3pymV4YNsae3TOs5XPgIuzzZrT7LN3722m-K0fYB6LN47o2CBJh8U9PTNQlFZiGPO

The primary idea would be to construct a facade upon a cliff face where we can dig into the hill for all amenities so that valuable world space would not be taken up nor warped. We intend the style to be a fantasized mixture of East and West, akin to the Blades in Elder Scrolls, to respect the vibes of both neighboring Yong Ping and Luciensburg. The interior of the temple would depend purely on how much space the WT would provide unto us. If either desired cliff location were to be unobtainable, and we were positioned somewhere on a stretch of beach or plains, we would construct something more conventional, like a keep or monastery.

The image below is a castle I have stored for use at any time with a dimension of around 50x30. I am also an experienced builder, having personally built Johannesburg, Death’s End, Bastion, Beanville, and Ard Ghorrock and would thus prefer to construct said exposed lair after receiving confirmation on the terrain.

    4pcydZvu_i7ikmOPyDtdcez06Gvgdy8p9MyJVjsaWSZwNRtLXIbe0mk6Tn_A3CRoA3ZLZnzXIUafz-6f8NpY2zneZt1IK_zqoRIBaK3VZj-LpjTKwbxP8wW1C7vwv9HPyAe0yjXW

Why can you not accomplish the niche of this lair’s roleplay in an existing settlement or nation? (We expect a substantial answer for this, not just ‘I don’t like them’).

Currently, the state of Human RP does not facilitate the existence of the Lectorate well. To begin with, Oren opted for an aesthetic of the 18th/19th century and has vehemently opposed the adoption of vassals. If the Lectorate were to join Orenia, it would lose its gritty flamenist aesthetic and likely be beholden to secular politics which we attempt to avoid at all costs. Ontop of this, through roleplay, the Lectorate has become rather distrustful of Orenia as the Lectors uncovered numerous examples of both moral and necrotic corruption, as well as having been baited into inadvertently do the Empire’s dirty work in Freeport.

As for Haense, the nation has opted for the Canonist sect of Orthodoxy and thus has no place for the Owynist Rite. In addition, seemingly every interaction with the Haense government has been met with less than amicable responses, such as being brushed aside by the Haense military and Stewardry when we were investigating a Striga who was hiding in their territory.

Sutica, a new Canonist nation, has also seemingly opted for the Rite of the Orthodoxy and, simply put, is too far away from the factions we interact with on the regular as it is separated by sea. The other nations of the world are of other faiths or philosophies, and thus they will not mesh well with the Lectorate.

Lastly, the City of State of Luciensburg, albeit highly amicable, seems to rely upon the Lectorate too much for its activity. We say this not out of cockiness, but we believe it necessary that Luciensburg attempt to solve its issues with activity and governance on its own without brushing responsibilities unto we Lectors. In addition, our temple within Luciensburg has been defiled numerous times and there is no saying whether Niccum or RancidHound will destroy the town in some rat event line, and all of our supplies/relics/books with it.

What does this lair add to the greater world around them?:

The Temple of the Flaming Covenant would serve to act as an oasis for Flamenists and their allies in the South as well as a vault of knowledge. We intend to continue collecting books for the establishment of a vast library and to train interested players in the ways of Owynism, combat RP, and Monster Hunting. Additionally, by granting us this lair, it will provide a definitive base of operations for malintents to target should they seek to eradicate or fight us, so that other towns might not be caught in the crossfire of our shadow wars.

  13. "It may be wise, then, to ensure that the HRA does not absorb these rebellious rascals into its ranks! I would hate to see these malicious and disruptive individuals ruin the proud Kingdom of Haense! I for one know my superior welcomed me with open arms, and that's dangerous!" comments John Etcheverry, former Sedanite terrorist.

  14. Lord Podrick Cunnington plugged his left nostril with his thumb as he snorted a delightful amount of intoxicating powder from the knots within his bobbed powdered wig. A priggish smirk formed across his visage, highlighted by a rubied lip balm, as he rose a porcelain cup in jubilation.
