Bonnie felt like she was being dragged down by something as she made her way to their house. She stopped at the front door and took a deep breath. Amelia gripped her hand tightly. ”Is something wrong?” she asked her mother. Bonnie looked down at her with a sad smile. ”Your father won’t be coming home this time, Amelia.” she said as a single tear rolled down her cheek. Amelia nodded and started crying silently.
Bonnie picked up the seven year old and brought her inside. She laid her down on what used to be her husband’s side of the bed. The pillow still had his scent. ”Sleep,” She told the child, “We’re moving to my guild’s fort in the morning.” With that, she held Amelia until she heard small snores. Bonnie tried to sleep, but every time she closed her eyes, she saw his face. She saw his smile. She saw how happy they were together. She couldn’t hold her tears in anymore. She cried quietly, trying not to wake Amelia. Bonnie eventually fell asleep with a song playing in her head. The song that she hummed the night she taught Jack how to dance.
