  1. From the confines of her room in Astfield, Annika A. Vyronov would kneel down beside her bed as she prepared to sleep. She would pray for those fighting in the war and for those who will eventually give their lives to it. "May Godan bless his most faithful and protect those who are lost in faith and mind." She murmured. She would then blow out the candle beside her, another restless night ahead of her.

  4. THE HAESENI SEASON Ve Lifstala 372 ES ______________________________________________________________________________________ It is with this official missive that the Queen's Council announce the continuation of the Haeseni tradition, Lifstala. Otherwise known as the Season, its aim is to bring together the eligible young people of the city in an endless whirlwind of festivities and pleasures as well as providing an opportunity to enjoy oneself in the upcoming events. There is no minimum age limit to partake in the festivities, since the Season is geared towards making friends as well as potential matches. It shall prove to be a thrilling few months crammed full of galas, teas, balls, sporting events and of course, enough time for friendships and new-found alliances to forge among those attending. During the weeks following, men are encouraged to call by the houses of the ladies that they find they wish to know better. Leave a calling card inviting the lady of interest to a further activity: perhaps a stroll, a picnic, riding through the woods or luncheon. Something to stand out and woo the lady of their choice. It is the hope that, not too long after the Season, the Lifstala matches can bloom into friendships and unions. Now, for this second edition of our flourishing social season, marriages are blooming almost every month in Karosgrad. As the seasons warm, so it seems, do peoples’ hearts. And so, Lifstala is recommended for newly-wed couples, those engaged or those who are still searching the market. It is simply a festival celebrating love and union. Singles will still be presented at the beginning of the season, yet the activities are open to all who wish to partake. A depiction of a day at Haeseni court. What follows is the itinerary for our second Lifstala of Haense. THE PRESENTATION The Lifstala will commence with the presentation of those participating during court. The name of each single counterpart and whomever accompanies them will be announced. The person accompanying will usually be the Patriarch or Matriarch of their house or a parent. They will stand and be presented to the royal family. The Koenas usually may choose to ask a few questions, remain silent or outwardly draw her favour onto a participant for the season. This is deemed to be high praise indeed. This year, Onlooking single men and women may keep a keen eye out for a lady or lad who may suit their fancy, as well as Matriarchs and Patriarchs who are looking to seek an alliance for this Season. (OOC: Tuesday 4th May 4pm EST) ST JULIA’S COMPANIONS An initial chance for all the participants to have some time getting to know one another in a more personal manner. In the palace gardens all those partaking in the Season will congregate at picnic blankets. It is encouraged that the youths speak privately or in small groups of threes, with the aim to chat and get to know one another on a more personal basis. Be sure to keep rotating to exchange words with everyone present. Pairs will be encouraged to go on short walks around the gardens, arm in arm, or to remain seated under the shade of the pavilion. Guardians, do not fear, for there will be chaperones to guide the event. This event is a chance to better know the other where it is acknowledged that most at the event are looking for potential matches to court. It is crucial, being at the beginning of the Season, to converse with as many as possible to broaden your choices for a most wonderfully suited match. Of course, this event is open to those already married or engaged to spend time with their match, arranged or not, and relax. (OOC: Wednesday 5th May 2pm EST) LADIES’ TEA & MEN’S HUNT Should the spring weather permit it, courtiers and participants of the Season are encouraged to come together and venture out into the wilderness for a nice day of fresh air. The men are encouraged to take to the forests with the Master of Hunt and give the local boars their best shot. While the men play, the ladies of the Season are welcomed to a tea or picnic to share their thoughts, play games or make a girdle belt for themselves. Once the men return with their wild prizes, the group is welcomed to converse and mingle fully together. It is old Haeseni tradition to offer the female counterpart the pelt of the slain animal, or a man’s fur cloak. Couples are encouraged to wander off in close proximity to the picnic, in order to share a few moments alone to acquaint themselves with one another. (OOC: Thursday 6th May 4pm EST) FURTHER ACTIVITIES Activities like Haeseni Chess are encouraged although not scheduled. It is a healthy way of competing with fellow participants and members of the court while showing intellect and skill. As mentioned before, activities between couples such as riding, promenading and picnicking are all dobry. If an esteemed family should like to host their own luncheon, ball or hunt during the weeks of the Season it is very much encouraged. A CELEBRATION AT OTISTADT Like most fun, things must come to an end, but that does not mean it must end in any small way. The County of Otistadt has graciously offered to open their esteemed doors and host a most grand celebration to mark for the ending of the Season. Dancing, feasting and many forms of entertainment will be provided by the hosts as participants of the season and courtiers gather together for a night of merriment and revelry. Those who attend will have their final chance to work towards a match best suited for themselves or their house. (OOC: Saturday 8th May 4pm EST) POST-SEASON PROPOSALS The Patriarchs and Matriarchs of the ladies might receive proposals from men asking for permission to court, or, to marry. This is best done by the end of the Season or in the weeks following since a lady might have multiple suitors to answer. Be swift to ask to allow the lady more time to think. ______________________________________________________________________________________ AN ADDED NOTE TO THE ORGANISER The Haeseni Lifstala is versatile when it comes to the range of events per Season. Seasons can include entertainment in the form of a play, dancing performance or orchestra, perhaps. Additionally, different sporting events are widely popular. The itinerary for each Lifstala is up to the organiser, allowing for freedom and fun whilst arranging the upcoming weeks. However each year there are aspects which remain the same: the official Presentation to court and the celebration marking the end of the festivities. ______________________________________________________________________________________ SIGNED, Her Ladyship, Rosalind Amador de Astrea, Grand Lady of Hanseti-Ruska Her Ladyship, Annika A. 5. In a dramatic fury, Annika would pull out her suitcases and begin tossing in her belongings. The red haired lady would be muttering curses under her breath as she quickly packed. "Leashed!" She exclaimed, throwing her hands up in the air. Dresses would fly across the room, jewelry boxes slammed shut. Anyone within the Barony of Astfield would surely hear the ruckus coming from the room. Sitting at her vanity table and taking in a few calming breaths, Annika would let out a groan at the state of her room. Dusting off her hands, she would ring for a servant. "Clean this up please." She said, then leaving her room after her tantrum had finished. She would not be running away from her problems just yet.
  6. From the Seven Skies Analiesa de Astrea would look down at her sister and family, a 'Go Adalia' pink foam finger in her hand as she awaited the election.
  7. Annika Vyronov would read over the column in its entirety, eyes scanning the page hungrily. "I am put on a list!?" She exclaimed, wrinkling her nose. The lady would go and toss the missive on her desk, blue eyes shooting a glare at it. Focusing herself, she would inhale a deep breath, composing herself. Taking the newly gifted collier from her neck, she would toss it aside into her jewelry box.
  8. Annika Vyronov was in shock. Shock over seeing one of the strongest women she had known be killed right before her. Shock over seeing death occur once more in a city she still felt foreign in. She would pray and contemplate over this and would consult with the only person she knew would have the answers, and that was her God. She would see this as a reminder that as great as someone may be, they still are at the mercy of Godan. In her room on Astfield, the lady would light a candle for the late queen mother, a single tear shedding at the horrific memory. Once again, she would have a sleepless night, the reminder of death enveloping her mind and causing her senses to remain alert. "Godan bless the Koenas."

  10. [An Ancient Proverb on Marriage] In marriage there are three. Two to meet. One to unite. Rich in blessings, fruitful with love, lacking misfortune. We pray GOD will bless this union until the last of your days. MARRIAGE TRADITIONS IN THE HANSETI-RUSKA COURT ___________________________________________ “A healthy marriage is rewarded by GOD.” - Alfred Patriarch Jorenus The union of man and wife has always been important, especially in the eyes of the Canonist Church. Religion, being a core aspect of Haeseni life, must be highlighted as a priority, especially when a man and woman intend to join together in matrimony. “Sic enim Horen et Julia, ita nobis quoque. Hanc unionem nos in omni loco oculi Domini solidatur, quia et nos ipsi propius adducere, ut ad sancta sanctorum collegiorum.” “[Translated] As for Horen and Julia, so for us too. We solidify this union in the eyes of God, that we may bring ourselves closer to His holiest of unions.” ___________________________________________ HISTORY OF RITUALS AND CUSTOMS I. HERZENARANY Herzenarany (loosely translated to ‘noble gold’) is the payment from the family of the partner of lower social rank to the family of the partner of higher social rank. Traditionally, social status is held in high regard within the court, so much so that marrying into a lower rank is heavily frowned upon within nobility. However, circumstances occur where one from a noble house has no other option than to marry down into a lower house. When a lord or lady from a lower ranked noble house decides to marry into a house of higher rank, that lord or lady is required to offer up a herzenarany in order to make up for their difference in social status. This tribute is a sign of respect for the higher noble house and cements the alliance between the two noble houses, leading to a peaceful union. II. A SYMBOLIC GIFT It is a long-standing tradition that, during courtship, the suitor in question dotes upon their partner with gifts. Trinkets and flowers, poems or otherwise all demonstrate his intentions. A tradition once practised is that when the man feels his affections are secure, he would go the added length to present the woman with one of particular symbolism. Men would go into nearby woodland and spend the day hunting for twine and ivy. He would then twist those strands tightly together into a classic Haeseni rope belt. This girdle belt represents when a married Haeseni woman will tie her belt on the other side than that of her youth - a tradition representing her now-married status. Not only that, but the twine rope represents something similar to when, during the marital ceremony, the couple’s hands are covered in cloth. The rope symbolises the partnership shared between the pair, entwined together as well as the strong promise that neither will let the other go. It reminds the couple of the vows they will soon take of faithfulness, to hold faith in sickness and in health. This gift is typically bestowed before the suitor approached the patriarch of the family, asking officially for approval. Upon receiving the gift, it is a strong indication of the suitor’s intentions. If accepted, they have won the last approval from the woman before asking for her hand. However, if rejected, it’s a strong indication that the woman doesn’t wish to progress to matrimony and is recommended that the suitor reassess his decision. A simple gift, mostly forgotten in Haeseni histories, which can save the embarrassment of being formally rejected by the patriarch of one’s partner. While keeping mens’ reputations intact, it serves to also solidify the holdfast love one feels for another. It should be added that although the woman can choose whether to accept or deny this twined gift of nature, the final decision will be made by her family patriarch. III. TRADITIONS It is usual to dine with the suitor’s family while the suitor waits for the patriarch’s answer to his request to marry. There’s an old Haeseni tradition that at the end of the dinner the man is given a dish to indicate the patriarch’s decision. He will either be served the lok (goat intestine filled with pork) or the erkindelir (boiled pig heart). If the erkindelir is served, his request to wed has been refused. However, if the lok is served, the patriarch has bestowed his approval of the pair. There’s an additional part to this tradition. If the denial is extreme and the patriarch wishes to forbid the man from seeing his female companion again, the erkindelir is covered in a spicy sauce known as uli (milk and cream mixed with spices). For those more superstitious, the eve of the wedding is key. It is growing increasingly common for children to be promised to one another from as young as six or seven. This union could have been anticipated for years, so everything must go to plan. At the celebratory dinner before the wedding, it is an old tradition to break plates in order to banish malevolent spirits or aura that isn’t Godly before the big day. The bride will retire early to indulge in a night of relaxation. She sleeps in soft material like silk or satin, said to be the cleanest and most pure before the following day. In the morning her female relations prepare her (this includes women on the groom’s side of the family). The bride might choose to stitch an old piece of fabric into the inside of her dress, to remind her of her past as she steps into her future. Small balls of pastry, drizzled with honey might be offered. These represent the sweetness of the upcoming match, along with the prayers that the pair will remain happy and sweet for many years to come. ___________________________________________ THE INTERVIEW Upon assembling a list of question on the topic of marriage and the Canonist faith, we were fortunate enough to recruit KML Alfred Patriarch Jorenus, Patriarch of the Kingdom of Haense and Kingdom of Norland, Prelate of the Clergy, to give his knowledge and guidance on the matter. Here is the interview with Patriarch Alfred Barclay on religious attitudes and teaching to marriage and family life within Canonism: “Could you explain the importance of marriage in reference to GOD and Canonism?” Marriage is an everlasting union of two individuals before God for the purpose of procreation and love. We had Horen and Julia, who raised three sons, the Prophets of our Holy Mother Church. Without Horen and Julia we wouldn’t have our well-known Prophets today. When I speak like this, I must remind that marriage is an important ceremony both for God and us, as His servants. “What would you say makes marriage last?” A marriage can survive if there is faith, trust and love between the pair. Marriage is made up of a lot of love between a man and a woman, which they give to each other with God in their hearts. This bond, which makes marriage strong and happy must be present in both man and woman. You will encounter problems in life: a family to feed; hard work and so on. If we can’t share these problems with one’s partner that is where that bad aura that doesn’t come from Godan is created. “To clarify- what are the Canonism beliefs on divorce?” Marriage is indissoluble. Our Holy Mother Church does not recognise divorces but therefore accepts annulment. This annulment is a process in which, be it a husband or a wife, it seeks to investigate whether everything was done according to church procedure during the ceremony. If some of the conditions are not met the marriage can be considered annulled. The man and woman can marry again. “Do you have any ideas for how to raise children with Canonist values, following the religion?” As we know, children are the future of this world. Every child should be baptized so that the Lord may enter into the pure soul of the child, guarding him from every evil of this world. This is the very beginning of raising a child as a believer. Of course, he should not be denied anything such as entertainment or playing with other children. Just as we should not force a child to be a knight or a sailor, we cannot force faith. Faith is an important thing in our lives and we can achieve this task of raising a child with good canonist values only if we ourselves, as parents, understand what is good and what is not. We need to understand and be loyal to God in prayer, in good and in evil “For those experiencing trials in their marital relations or family life, how can they find support in the Church?” The individual needs to remember why he wants to turn to God. That is, what the problems in marriage really are. God forgives because we are his children. He cultivates an enormous amount of love for us and we should always remember that if we are in trouble, one should ask whether this problem can be solved. A man or woman should not hesitate to come to a nearby church and talk to a priest present. They provide the best advice with the aid of God’s word and faith. Any problem one faces in racing a family or relations may not be solvable first hand, but with constant prayer and the help of the Church, every problem can be solved. “Anything else you would like to add?” Let me just say that love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful and endures through every circumstance. As God by creation made two of one, so again by marriage he made one of two. ___________________________________________ WRITE IN WITH ANY QUERIES, PROBLEMS OR OTHERWISE. Conferring with the ladies of the court and members of the Church, it is certain we can offer some kind of answer. If published, the person seeking advice will remain anonymous. ___________________________________________ Signed, Her Ladyship, Rosalind Amador de Astrea, Grand Lady of the Royal Courts of Hanseti-Ruska Her Ladyship, Annika A. 11. Annika Vyronov would be wringing her hands, rosary clenched in her grasp as she muttered silent prayers. What she had seen has not allowed her a blink of rest for several nights now. "Stefan saw her as a sister, Godan bless her majesty." She breathed out during her prayer before bed. "She is running through the seven skies at Godan's side, pants and all." She said, ending with a signing of the Hussariyan cross across her chest. She would quickly slip under her covers, still remaining awake for yet another sleepless night.

Now, with the changing of the weather, let us revel in a fruitful evening full of fine food and drink as music fills the halls of the Barony of Astfield. Guests are expected to come in their finest evening dress and are expected to follow the proper dinner party etiquette for the evening. We look forward to your attendance. -=- Penned by her Ladyship, Annika A. Vyronov [[OOC: Event will take place Thursday, April 15th @4:00 PM EST]]
  13. Annika Vyronov would read the missive while enjoying her afternoon tea. "A pious and honorable man." She'd comment to a servant as they refilled her cup. "He has done much for the kongzem and because of the acceptance of his faults, he will come out even stronger than before." She mused, a thoughtful smile on her face. "Haense has proven to be a kongzem of action and acceptance. May Godan bless Ser Alric." The lady would set down the missive, picking up a transcription of the Scroll of Gospel, eyes beginning to skim the familiar passages.
  14. Annika Vyronov would read over the flier from her bedroom, still full of unpacked luggage. "Godan bless him.." She breathed, signing the lorraine cross over her chest. Placing the flier down, she would retreat back to her unpacking, taking great care of her belongings.
