    Honorable ‘aheral of the State,

With a heavy heart, I formally write to inform you of the untimely demise of Talia Fileyune Sullas, a cherished member of the prominent Sullas Talonnii, within the Silver State of Haelun'or. It is with deep regret that I share this sorrowful news, which has left an irreplaceable void in the hearts of her loved ones and the community as a whole.

Talia was a revered figure in many of the places she came to live, known for her unwavering commitment to the principles and values that form the foundation of Maehr'sae Hiylun'ehya. Her dedication to the care and learning of the mali’aheral inside and out of elcihi’thilln was truly unparalleled, and her contributions shall forever be remembered as a testament to her noble character and indomitable spirit.

As I personally mourn the loss of my lari’onn, Talia, I would be remiss to not extend my heartfelt sympathy and condolences to the rest of the Talonnii I once bore the name of, especially her beloved mal’onn, Kileath, first cousin Iyathavir, and Laurir Aiera Sullas who would be with the deepest feelings of profound pain with her absence. I offer my unwavering support and, despite our differences and my standing, pledge to stand by them during this difficult period, providing solace and assistance in any way I can.

In recognition of my sister’s untimely demise at the hands of Mori’quessir in the final defense of Almaris, I urge that you hold a commemorative vigil and funeral pyre in her honor. To not only mourn the loss of a pure-blooded ‘aheral, but to celebrate her life, her achievements, and the enduring spirit to learning and teaching that she leaves behind.

During this time of bereavement, let the citizens of the esteemed Silver State of Haelun'or unite in solidarity and extend our support to one another and the Sullas Talonnii. Together, you can honor Talia's memory and ensure that her passing is not in vain, but that her commitment to the Eternal Library and that of Maehr'sae Hiylun'ehya remain an inspiration for generations to come.

May her soul find eternal peace in Ebrietaes and find a metaphorical embrace of Larihei. May her memory forever grace the halls of the Silver City and of the Sullasian Manor.

    Sincerely,

Saoren Seregon of The Exilic Kingdom of Númendil, Steward of the Exilic Kingdom of Númendil, Scribe to the Court of Tar-Númenatâr Foronathor of the Royal House Arthalionath, Tutor to the Court of Tar-Númenatâr Foronathor of the Royal House Arthalionath

What magic(s) will you be teaching?

             Alchemy

Describe this magic or a creature as a whole:

Alchemy is a science and art to breakdown herbs and reagents from the material realm into base components known as Signs and Symbols. The process itself involves using reagents and herbs from our material realm and going through multi-step processes to break them down through different extraction methods in order to obtain Symbols of varying elemental types. By taking these Symbols and studying how they interact and combine with each other, alchemists create imaginative and active concoctions from normally mundane reagents and herbs. Various combinations and directed steps can yield different results often becoming a number of potions or other mixtures.

Are there different sections or subsections of magic? Can those be elaborated upon?

The best analogy for sections and subsections to alchemy come through the three basic steps and processes used to take mundane reagents and herbs and turn them into alchemical potions and mixtures. By following through each of these steps or processes, an alchemist fulfills the overall purpose and intent of the Feat.

Identification is the first step in understanding what and why certain reagents and herbs yield certain Symbols and Signs. While the process itself relies on being able to extract these from the materials, the study of those is what can lead an alchemist to learning more about the material realm and its construction.

Extraction is the next step in the true process of creating potions and other alchemical mixtures. While identifying these Signs and Symbols relies on the ability to extract them, being able to understand the fundamental building blocks and where to find them leads to a more complete understanding of what an alchemist needs to do in order to find the Signs and Symbols they need for their creations. Going further from simply identifying those pieces, extraction allows for collection to separate and pull these Symbols to be used in the final step of creation. Various processes exist that allow for different Symbols to be extracted from reagents and herbs with different Signs attached to them.

Mixing and the creation of finished alchemical potions and mixtures is the ultimate product of an alchemist's learned knowledge into the material realm and its building blocks. The mixture of a number of bases and Symbols yields the imaginative and active from the mundane roots. With the number of possible creations at hand, specific steps are needed while an alchemist is in the process of mixing and often they need to be preformed in a certain order to yield a stable reaction or a product that can react when used.

Other forms of alchemy in various additions have been found and learned through separate teachings. While the basic craft and science behind alchemy is one thing, these additions allow for an expanded use on the Feat. Confectionery Alchemy, Tawkin, Alteration Alchemy, and Sylvian Alchemy are all examples of the alchemical process and teachings taken further in separately learned processes.

Can you give an example of a casting emote, of a spell of your choice?

As an example for the creation of a Tanglefoot Potion:

Saoren enters the alchemy lab and prepares a clear work surface on the bench. He'd select a series of boiling flasks, dishes, stirring sticks, a mortar and pestle, as well as other odds and ends like a burner. Moving through to reagent storage, he'd find himself a couple of different jars to use for the day. Tippens Root and Alabaster Leaf being the key ones taken back with him to the workbench. The final piece he took was a large flask of Aqua Vitae.

Setting out the two jars on the workbench, he'd start working with the Alabaster Leaf. The mortar and pestle was used by the elf to grind the reagent down until it became a fine powder. He'd take one of the boiling flasks and fill it partially with Aqua Vitae before adding in the powdered Alabaster Leaf. Using a flint striker, he'd set the burner alight away from other pieces on the table, the mixture was set over the flame to boil.

While the first reagent worked and boiled over the flame, Saoren took the jar of Tippens Root and portioned it into the mortar and pestle after cleaning it out. Much like his first steps, he'd once again grind this reagent down until it was a fine powder. A half-measure of salt was then mixed into the powdered Tippens Root and mixed once more as he looked for a fine grey powder in his result.

Saoren filtered the salt and Tippens Root mixture through a sieve to separate out any leftover and unrefined salt crystals from the mixture. The final Tippens Root powder was spread into a dish and set aside for the moment.

Returning his attentions to the boiling Alabaster Leaf mixture, he'd pull it from the flame to separate out some of the more solid mass within it from the more liquid remains. The liquid was then set back over the flame to boil more.

After some more time had passed, Saoren was able to remove the boiling flask from the flame once more. In its place he'd set the dish with the mixture of Tippens Root to heat and bake. Tediously and meticulously, he'd begin the separation process of pulling each Symbol from the Alabaster Leaf remains. Rigidity, Growth, and Purity were set into separate dishes, though the elf wouldn't need all of them.

Once the Tippens Root had sufficiently cooked itself to his liking, he'd perform the separation process much like he just had to find Impediment, Curtailment, Connection, and Order.

Saoren finally selected a finished flask to use for this creation. He was filled with Aqua Vitae and then mixed into it were two parts Growth, two parts Connection, three parts Curtailment, and one part Rigidity from this array of separated Symbols. Carefully, he'd slowly stir and mix in each Symbol, one at a time with a stirring stick. Once it had become apparent that the mixture was fully dissolved, he'd tightly cork the finished flask and give it a label.

Can you give an example of a teaching-emote (interacting with another) of a spell of your choice?

Saoren enters the alchemy lab and prepares a clear work surface on the bench. He'd select a series of boiling flasks, dishes, stirring sticks, two mortar and pestles, as well as other odds and ends like a couple of burners. Moving through to reagent storage, he'd collect a jar of dried Goblin's Ivy and a large flask of Aqua Vitae. Both of these he took to the work area as he awaited Student.

"From our last lesson, you'll remember we covered what the building blocks were for the realm around us and where they are found. For today, I want you to pull those Symbols from a reagent to discover what the process is and how the basic fundamental step of extraction works as a hands-on lesson." he'd say, taking a pause before adding, "With general certainty, most everything you will want to create and learn from with alchemy is going to need at least some amount of the Symbols to carry the Mundane Sign. So why don't we look into how it is to work with extracting for Mundane Symbols?"

Each set of items he had previously arranged for the lesson was broken into two matching pairs that sat on one side of the workbench across from the other. He'd select a measure of the dried Goblin's Ivy and place it within the mortar and pestle near him. Beginning to grind the reagent down into a fine powder, he'd acknowledge Student to do the same, "Part of what will be apparent in the next steps is the need to work with a given reagent in a form that can be dissolved into a base. What we're doing is taking this Goblin's Ivy and preparing it to mix into our base of Aqua Vitae. It will be much easier to work with that way."

Saoren filled two of the boiling flasks with Aqua Vitae and left one for Student while he carefully mixed the powdered Goblin's Ivy into the other flask. He gave it a simple stir and set it over one of the burners. "What we want from this, like all reagents, isn't easy to see from the outside. Boiling this down will let us start to separate out the completely mundane mass from the reagent and start to unwrap the material to find those underlying Symbols."

"A little patience will go a long way in this craft. Remember that." he'd say, waiting for the mixture to boil down. Upon reaching a certain point, he'd remove his mixture from the burner, sieve and separate out the more solid mass from the liquid portions and set the mixture back to boil. "We're working our way down now as we get closer to the final steps in extracting Mundane Symbols. Once we end up with a completely dry mixture, we'll be able to start identifying and separating out them."

As the mixture was moving into the final desired point, he'd remove it from the burner and show Student the end result with the help of a glass lens. "I find that the generous use of a lens and a good pair of thumb forceps is one of the easier ways to work through this step. Although, it still will be time consuming and tedious. Look through at my mixture here and see what the Symbols are that I extract."

Saoren brought a lens near his eye and leaned against the table as he sifted through the dried remains with a pair of thumb forceps. "Poison and Life are two of the Symbols we'll find in Goblin's Ivy, Endurance is also in here to a lesser extent." he said, continuing to sift through until he found each of the three Symbol types within. Extracting them to their own dishes, he'd show Student what each looked like. "You can see how they start to show themselves out from the remains of your reagent and let you separate them out. I'd like you to try the separation yourself now and see if you can find all of the Symbols one measure of Goblin's Ivy will yield."

Say your student powergames during or after teaching, how do you reprimand that?

While alchemy lends itself to a more tedious and detailed amount of RP which might leave a little less room for powergaming during its process, it is still a factor and concern to be aware of and ready to deal with. As with many slip-ups in RP, the benefit of the doubt is always a good place to start. Pointing out and explaining what was done as an issue should be the first point to work with as a way to correct powergamed RP. Additional instances where it occurs with the same student should quickly be addressed more seriously and with less grace if it is getting out of hand. By whatever moderation or story team that might oversee a problem player, these things should be taken to if a student is refusing to address their RP by guidance from the teacher.

  8. Flames.

Scorched white tiles and bustling voices.

    Chaos incarnate.

Time turned in a slow march as indistinct voices called and shouted at each other. Everything around was a blur of silver tones and huddled bodies. On the edge of hearing a call which broke through the cacophony of voices, “Stop the mage!” Distinct from the clouded obscurity and the commotion was a figure, an elf of elder years draped in blue. Blue eyes held steady in focus.

“. . . For mounting inaction posed on your behalf which led to this trial?”

    Flames.

Beyond the periphery of vision and to the left, a torrent of flame shot through the open space. Chaos and disorder as the forms of the figures flee the fire’s path. Yet everything but the elf begins to fade into the fog.

    “. . . You are a disgrace to Silver Law and maehr’sae hiylun’ehya.”

A haze, distinct from the background blur, began to creep at the edge of vision. Silver wisps lit in a glow which further clouded all but the elf. Embers swirled through the air, circling and coalescing into small burning shapes. Fire building and growing in one uniform ball.

    Chaos.

Time sped and the movements in the haze drifted like shadows across a screen. Where the world had once lagged, events now turned at an excessive pace. The fire which consolidated and burned bright pushed forward suddenly towards the elf. Set upon a careening course for destruction.

    Darkness.

A pyre lit the center of the small church where a middle-aged Hyspian man stood near to it. A flamboyant, joyful aura spilled from the man as he beckoned one to follow him. A path was given which could only bring salvation and understanding.

    Hope.

A path which saw trial and triumph that wound its way through life’s purposes and the meanings of that which surrounds. Pages and scrolls, poured through with literary reading and practical analogy. Times which brought joy and times which brought sorrow. Times which restored a heart to love.

    Order.

Fire poured in two columns down an aisle. The Hyspian, a Santegian, and an Oyashiman man stood ready at its end. Two elves upon their knees moved between the flames. Heat. Warmth. Light. Words spoken now, clear as day, would ring through the hall. Blades were drawn by those who stood at the end, struck and lit aflame.

    “Benedicat Tibi Dominvs Et Cvstodiat!”

What magic(s) will you be teaching?

             Fire Evocation

Describe this magic or a creature as a whole:

Voidal magic is one that requires the user to connect to the void in order to use its ‘power’ as in illusion, or to ‘evoke’ or ‘conjure’ material from the void. Most often, new users will have the guidance of a teacher to connect to the void where they will learn to connect on their own for the future.

Fire evocation is the use of the void to conjure flame and fire from the void, an initiate user must study fire's real world properties first before learning to conjure it. The real world component is the basis and foundation for proper success in the pursuit of the magic itself and the user should understand how it works and interacts with the world itself. The casted spells a user of the magic can do with the fire and flame varies, from making balls of flames and small projectiles, to clouds of smoke and small flames falling from the sky. What is evoked is limited to only fire, flame, and smoke, and the evocation could cause harm to its evoker as it would any target. With the foundational understanding of the element, the user can shape the flame in creative ways while ultimately not giving an advantage to the evoked flame itself.

Evoked fire has some different properties compared to a normal fire, as it slowly consumes whatever flammable option it's touching. It’s also important to note that the evoked fire is a mirror of its real world component, being only in existence while the user is actively evoking it with a connection to the void. Most fire will give first and second degree burns, only worsening burns if skin is left burning for a longer period of time. The evoked fire can latch to its targets where it may cause light to moderate burns, worse if the target is left burning for a long period of time. However, the evoked flame may be easily suffocated with non-flammable liquid or sand. If it isn't put out in combat, it will go out afterwards. The fire will, in combat, only be red and orange in color, with the hues slightly varying. Non-combat, the fire can be any color besides white and black.

Are there different sections or subsections of magic? Can those be elaborated upon?

    N/A

Can you give an example of a casting emote, of a spell of your choice?

Saoréan’s eyes begin to glow with a hazy, silver hue as his connection to the void is opened. The elf’s hand raises slightly and a similar haze focuses around it as dull embers grow brighter in a growing torrent near the hand.

A small flame concentrates and forms from the glowing embers as if a spark is set. Saoréan’s focus sharpened on the target as his visage was taken in a concentrated fervor.

The elf’s arm moved back and shot forward as the ball of flame held steady at its height. The flame hurled through the air between the elf and his target before crashing into it.

Can you give an example of a teaching-emote (interacting with another) of a spell of your choice?

"You’ll need to focus now. Clear one’s mind and think of the flame." he’d tell the student as he crossed the room and retrieved a lantern now broken into what essentially amounts to a small wick-fed burner. The elf would display the makeshift burner upon the table at which sat the prospective student where he’d raise the wick from its snubbed position and cast it alight.

He took a seek across from the student as his eyes began to glow with a hazy, silver hue as his connection to the void is opened. His voice coming out slower but with precise instruction, “Connect. As I am. You are capable.”

As the prospective student formed their own voidal connection, the elf’s hand would rise between them with his palm upward, a silvery-haze akin to the one overtaking his eyes would form around hand as dull embers fazed to existence within it, growing brighter in a growing torrent around the hand. His concentrated voice once more instructed, “Bring up your hand. Find the base spark that will ignite your flame and bring it forth.”

He let this instruction linger in the air and envelope the thoughts of the prospective student as he, himself, brought clarity and focus to the hazy effusion around his hand and coalescing that into a small flame. “Bring it forth and let it grow.”

Upon the success of the prospective student who formed their own flame, a slight smile would break the face of the elf, an approving nod moving his head. “Excellent focus. Remember each intricate stage of this evocation and hone it.”

And when the student created a flame within their own palm, she'd nod in approval. "Very good, keep practicing that when you've got the time for it."

Say your student powergames during or after teaching, how do you reprimand that?

A student should first be corrected with a warning and a re-explanation of process on the limitations and ability. Any further transgression should likely be conveyed to a member of the ST with the potential of the student being withdrawn from being taught.

  10. Spoiler

The light ebbed away from the Maelnyr estate as the sun set across the rolling hills and forest that surrounded the domicile. Such short-lived in its life upon the lands it was erected on, and with nary its share of inhabitants who came and went. The guests who once arrived and departed in changing fashion just the same as the changing of seasons.

As twilight overtook the vista, a pale, misty silver aura would vaguely illuminate an upstairs window. Barely visible for a few seconds before the dull glow of candlelight took over...

The blond-haired elf known as Saoréan Maelnyr sat in his study upstairs this night, working over several documents and a journal as he collected together in working research. Penning down its consensus into his own work. Quill to inkwell, Quill to paper.

    “Ullran!”

Uttered in quick acrimony as the inkwell was tipped from its perch and spilled across the pages.

Silence soon returned to the estate. This time, however, it was far more apparent as the dark ink stained everything it touched. The shadows cast hauntingly from the flame of the candle danced upon the walls in the periphery of the elf’s vision. His eyes trained on the ink before him but his mind was quickly cast elsewhere.

“Sao?” a feminine voice seemed to call.

    “Nessa?!” Saoréan responded with.

The elf’s head snapped to a shadow that seemed to scurry away as the flame’s dance continued.

“She won’t return.” another lower feminine voice called.

“You left me at that grove!” Saoréan snapped in return, palms hitting against the desk’s surface as he rose to his feet.

Once again, silence returned to the estate. Perhaps even more amplified by the dull creaking of it’s timbers as the wind picked up outside. The noises of the estate seemed to stretch onward and bring its own deathly chill to it’s last lone inhabitant.

“And what about me?” an almost much-too-real masculine voice broke the silence of Saoréan’s mind.

This last illusion seemed to break the elf’s will as his shoulders slumped forward and his head lowered.

“It wasn’t meant to go that way.” Saoréan’s own voice answered. “Never to that end…”

“Did it ever bring peace?” the voice asked conclusively.

Did it, however? The question ringed within the elf’s mind as many voices and images flashed past his consciousness. Many years worth of memories culminated into his very existence at this moment. How the halls of his home felt barren to him. Kileath, gone to the world. Nessarose, gone to the world. Talia, gone to the world. The unnamed voices he heard, lost to the past of his conscious choice.

    Did it ever bring peace?

The front door of the manor clicked closed as the elf known as Saoréan pulled it closed behind him. Footsteps on gravel and dirt as the figure moved away from the lone, solemn estate and off into the night for the final time. Soon the only noise that disturbed the night were horse’s hooves on cobbles that faded away into the distance.

Briefly explain the lore behind this construct or creature:

Based on the previously held lore / the current status quo for the race; Kharajyr are an anthropomorphic/humanoid-type creature with cat-like features and physicality. They have large, cat-like heads, claws, jointed tails, digitigrade limbs, padded hands and feet, and of course fur. Kharajyr usually will have a high sense of hearing and sight which are traits taken from their creation with ocelots. The Kha can have different types of fur adorning their heads depending on the sex in which they are born. Some male Kha might have manes whereas female Kha can sometimes have hair that is reminiscent of what the other female Descendants have. Kharajyr were created from infants and ocelots by Metz'tli using magical trials on a distant island. After many different attempts her first real creation was what is called Tlatlanni which was a white Kharajyr. Metz'tli tried creating her another example again but was not as successful, instead  making the the various sub-races of the Kharajyr; ‘Pantera, ‘Cheetrah, ‘Tigrasi, and ‘Leoparda. Each of the sub-races had their own characteristics and benefits / disadvantages. The Kharajyr would form a civilization and it’s leader would eventually declare himself above their creator Metz'tli. As retribution, she broke their civilization apart by manipulating a volcanic eruption where the Kharajyr had to flee to the realms we know now.
