Tomato is not a fruit, dammit.

It's because of how it grows, not what it comes from. A vegetable is where the actual meat of the plant, such as the stem, examples being broccoli or lettuce.
A fruit is where the actual ovary of the plant expands with the seeds inside of it to give the young plants nourishment early on, or at the very least it makes animals eat the seeds and carry them elsewhere. You can tell a tomato is a fruit quickly, especially if you look in the picture native posted, by the leaves at the top of it that was once part of the flower that eventually grew into the fruit. I hope this helps you understand why it is a fruit.
