Server Update: Money, Mobs And 3.0
TylerIsBored replied to Danny's topic in News & Announcements Archive
Mobs dropping money, no matter how small of an amount, can wreck the economy. Eventually it builds up over the hundred of players killing hundreds of mobs. I still vote for gold backed money. Sure, this gives most of the wealth possibility to miners, but it's actually realistic. Money has almost always been backed by gold in civilizations. Take out pigmen dropping gold in 3.0, make gold pretty rare (because nations will almost definitely have ridiculous amounts of people mining) and set up a "minting" system for nuggets or something like mentioned in the "Your View" post. I still think that idea would be insanely wonderful for the server. The miners who like to mine a ton make their profit selling the gold to minters in different kingdoms, people who don't like mining much can actually sell their goods for money. Governments being required to mint the money makes miners give them the gold needed to do trading as well as pay their guards and such. Governments could create much more dynamic economies by choosing when and when not to mint that gold. Etc etc etc. The benefits of gold backed money go on and on. The only benefits of this are so that people don't have to rp, but simply go out and sit on their own killing mobs for money and only rp to buy things. Which, in my eyes, is NOT a benefit. Sending money virtually is also ridiculous. Let me see you attach a bag of 1000 minas to a pigeon, be my guest and build it a robo-suit to be able to carry that. Legit, please, no more mobs dropping money ffs. We need a somewhat stable economy, not a constantly inflating one. (At least not a constantly inflating one for reasons that make no sense rp'ly.) -
Your View: Money, Money, Money
TylerIsBored replied to Danny's topic in Thales and the Fringe Roleplay Archive
Other. I strongly support the gold base idea, as well as the different kingdoms having different currencies. I say we just pump each kingdom with a certain amount of gold to back their money with at the beginning. As each kingdom gets more gold, they're able to back more money and therefore mint more (I like the book idea myself) This allows kingdoms to have their own individual economies, making their currency more or less valuable as they trade/buy/sell gold. If not something like this, the very simple gold system mentioned on this topic sounds easy as well. Gold nuggets are a Mina, ingot nine, block eighty one. This would allow easy storage, as well as easy buying and trading that is sort of like real life. (ie pulling out a dollar, a quarter, and three pennies, you pull out a block, two ingots, and six nuggets.) I very much like both systems, though with the rarity of gold while mining you might have to increase the value by 5x or so and people just sell things in multiples of five. Anyways, though I'm a die hard Aegis resurrector through and through, I know the pain of the stupid money loss and the silliness of people having alts. (For one, at one point I was carrying around 250K regularly and was scared shitless of dying. I also ran an entire bank business using an alt as the bank storage, and using signs to remember what everyone had stored.) I also hated Asulon period (hence my quitting for almost the entirety of it, returning only a week ago.) This gringotts system is pretty poopy too though. We need something new. -

I've been here almost since the beginning, Shift, and remember dealing with you as both a GM and Rp'er many times back in Aegis. I hope we meet again on the server sometime, as it's been far too long. -
I would say that is the best option. Two way would just make it too easy. We aren't supposed to be able to haul our entire possession over.

Voted Other. Wasn't this island originally for "collecting resources"? I like the idea of having to choose only an inventory full of items to take, aka "What we can carry with us" rather than allowing people to take their chests full of cobblestone and random crap with them to built giant disgusting settlements on the next island.

Both of the festive competition links are brokenn. Dx But, other than that, good stuff.

These ideas are all pretty great, hopefully a few people take away from this. As for the merchant thing, if anyone knew Hempshine back in Aegis, won't ever be another like him.

Well then, fer some short lineage, me grandfather was an Oren Guard Sergeant-turned rich gambler-turned large bank owner back in the lands of Aegis. Quite the man 'e was from what I 'ear, went by the name of Tyler Isbord. Me Father wouldn't tell me much of 'ow 'e came to be, or 'ow I came to be 'as well, seein' as I never knew me mother. But me father was born sometime shortly before 'is father's death from the Undead scum in Aegis, and seems to 'ave been raised by a carpenter. After they abandoned the lands of Aegis for Asulon, me father began work as an architect and landlord in New Alras. 'e lived quite the borin' life, doin' not much else but that and raisin' me. As fer meself, I think I take after me grandfather. 'e was quite greedy (which caused 'im to lose 'is riches by the same fate 'e got em.) which I see in meself a bit as well. I wouldn't want to 'arm anyone that don't need 'armin', and would never feel the urge to rob someone violently like the bandits and their folk, but if the opportunity fer a quick chunk of gold presents 'imself, I like to take me chances. I AM quite the fighter and sneak, might ye know. I feel I could get meself out of 'bout any situation! I grew up learnin' 'ow to build from me father, bein' an architect and all, and so I enjoy doin' it fer a livin'. I might even be given the title of Baron of me town under the wonderful Count Green 'ere shortly! Luckily 'e doesn't know that most of 'is wheat tribute be comin' from stolen wheat from the house of winter. Harhar. I try to be fair though and even be replantin' most of the seed. Anywho, back to me. I learned quite a bit from me father, from buildin' 'omes to wieldin' a sword (though 'e wasn't much good at it 'imself) to even locksmithin'! Quite a story behind that last'n there. Me father took over the "Old Pony Plaza" in Alras, quite the shoddy little apartment setup it was, under the King. The locks they built the bloody apartments with were cheaply made, couldn't keep a crosseyed goblin out! Over the course of 'is borin' life, 'e tinkered with the locks quite a bit, 'n' by the time 'e became an old man, 'e might as well 'ave been a master locksmith. The apartments 'ad locks that couldn't be fooled by any bandit or petty thief! Aye, 'e taught me a bit of the art, and I still practice meself. Though I'm not the best at it, I can manage to beat a lock or two 'ere and there. *chuckles* But as I've said, I think I be doin' quite well fer meself as of now. May not be the richest fellow, but I can't be complainin' when the possibility of becomin' a baron is bein' thrown around! Still though.. walkin' through Oren just makes me want to see how foolish those bloody nobles are. Always caught up in their petty arguments, I'm sure I could pick their chest open and grab meself a few bits of gold with them in the front yard! Harhar, fools most of those nobles be. Not me Count Green though, 'e's quite the intelligent fellow. Think I've 'eard 'e did a large bit of studyin' when 'e was younger. 'opefully 'e doesn't catch on to me offerin's to 'im bein' half stolen any time soon.." Artwork

COMPLETELY OOC: MC Name: TylerIsBored RP Name: Junior_Architect_Tyler, Landlord_Tyler, Tyler. How experienced do you THINK you are with redstone?(Preferably a non-biased opinion) [Example of what NOT to do:'IM AWESOM!'] I understand the basics, and have built some pretty complicated things with the help of youtube/google. I've built combination locks, floor-encased staircases, and simple piston doors. I don't know all of the GATES off hand, but I do know the function of most of them. Any links to redstone devices you've made before and documented(Screenshots/Video). (NOTE* It is best to have a sign somewhere in the screenshot/video to prove YOU made it.) Don't have any screenshots, but I gave you a basic understanding of what I can do above. Why do you wish to join the guild? I love playing with redstone mechanics, and at my architects status, I don't have much to do all the time. I like to be building almost constantly, and can't do that as of right now.
