PONTIFICAL ENTHRONEMENT OF 1552

 

The halls of the Cathedral of the Holy Sepulchre were bustling with pious men and women, locals from the area, all gathered in silence. The Pentarchs, displayed on either side of the dais at the back of the cathedral, waiting for the Vicar to ascend. Prince-Bishop Boiendl seems to stand out amongst his brethren, as he presides over the ceremony. His voice echoes out amongst the crowd and to those flooding the outside of the Cathedral as he booms the reads the ceremony.

 

 

“The Lord Creator, our God , father of all creation, sustainer and maintainer of the realms aplenty, had long ago made with Horen a covenant to spread the revelations of His Truths. And we, the keepers of God’s Will, the shepherds of his flock, are to continue to preserve his covenant, from the wickerdy and heathenry, the ill-minded and the mad. And as His Will, our Allfather has blessed one among his flock of man to lead and preserve the ministry. Wardens of the Church, these High Pontiffs are to keep our communion and covenant with the Lord Creator, and to bind the mortal races together in face of true threat, subservient to none but His Will which graces him.

 

 

Our church has been long in the darkness, balkanized by politic and the petty grievances of man; and in order to keep His Truths and His Grace aflame in the hearts of both sinner and saint, it has been time to anoint a new father of our church to preserve His Way and His Truth.”

 

 

Boiendl then begins to recite the Prayer of Penitence

 

 

"Almighty and most merciful Creator,

we have wandered and strayed from your ways

like lost sheep.

We have followed too much the devices and desires

of our own hearts.

We have offended against your holy laws.

We have left undone those things

that we ought to have done;

and we have done those things

that we ought not to have done;

and there is no health in us.

But you, O Lord, have mercy upon us sinners.

Spare those who confess their faults.

Restore those who are penitent,

according to your promises declared to mankind

in Horen our Lord.

And grant, O most merciful Creator, for his sake,

that we may live a disciplined, righteous and godly life,

to the glory of your holy name.

So say we all."

It is then when the youthful zealot, Charles was presented to the clergy, bearing an immaculate white frock.

 

 

Prince-Bishop Boiendl continued; “With the Lord Creator our witness and guide, it has been divined that the Pentarch,Charles of Felsen, has been willed to fulfill the seat of the Church Pontificate. Do you heed the call of Our Creator to bear this vocation?

 

 

“I do so believe.”

 

 

“You have been ordained in our church, your household names forsaken and your life devoted in sole service to the teachings of our Creator. The vows of your past vocations remain firm; now you must make the declaration of assent.”

 

 

Prince-Bishop Boiendl then reads the Assent, preserved from a different time.

 

 

“The Church of Faithful is the One, Holy and Rightful Church of the Creator , worshiping the one true God, The Creator. It professes the faith uniquely revealed in the Holy Scrolls and set forth in the Faithful creeds, which faith the Church is called upon to proclaim afresh in each generation. Led by the Holy Light, it has borne witness to Faithful truth in its historic formulates, the Articles of Faith, The Book of Saints. In the declaration you are about to make, will you affirm your loyalty to this inheritance of faith as your inspiration and guidance under God in bringing the grace and truth of Horen to this generation and making Him known to those in your care?”

 

 

“I, Charles of Felsen, do so affirm, and accordingly declare my belief in the faith which is revealed in the Holy Scrolls and set forth in the Faithful creeds and to which the historic formularies of the Church of The Creator bear witness; and in public prayer and administration of the sacraments, I will use only the forms of service which are authorized or allowed by Canon.” replies Charles

 

 

Do you accept the Holy Scrolls as revealing all things necessary for eternal salvation through faith?

 

 

"I do so accept them."

 

 

"Will you be diligent in prayer, in reading Holy Scrolls, and in all studies that will deepen your faith and fit you to bear witness to the truth of the Word?"

"Will you lead your people in proclaiming the glorious Word of Horen, so that the good news of salvation may be heard in every place?"

"Will you teach the doctrine of Horen as the Church of Faith has received it, will you refute error, and will you hand on entire the faith that is entrusted to you?"

Will you be gentle and merciful for Horen’s sake to those who are in need, and speak for those who have no other to speak for them?

"Will you endeavor to fashion your own life and that of your household according to the way of God and make your home a place of hospitality and welcome?"

"Will you work with your fellow servants in the Church for the sake of the kingdom of God?"

"Will you accept the discipline of this Church, exercising authority with justice, courtesy and love, and always holding before you the example of Horen?"

"Will you then, in the strength of the Holy Light, continually stir up the gift of God that is in you, that the good news of God may be proclaimed in all the Realm?"

"Speak thus then the oath of the Pontificate, with the conclave and God as witness."

 

 

"I vow to change nothing of the received Tradition, and nothing thereof I have found before me guarded by my God-pleasing predecessors, to encroach upon, to alter, or to permit any innovation therein;

To the contrary: with glowing affection as her truly faithful student and successor, to safeguard reverently the passed-on good, with my whole strength and utmost effort;

 

 

To cleanse all that is in contradiction to the canonical order, should such appear; to guard the Holy Canons and Decrees of our Saints and Pontiffs as if they were the divine ordinance of Heaven, because I am conscious of Thee, whose place I take through the Grace of God, whose Vicarship I possess with Thy support, being subject to severest accounting before Thy Divine Tribunal over all that I shall confess;

 

 

I swear to God Almighty and the Favored son Horen that I will keep whatever has been revealed through Horen and His Successors and whatever the Saints and my predecessors have defined and declared.

 

 

I will keep without sacrifice to itself the discipline and the rite of the Church. I will put outside the Church whoever dares to go against this oath, may it be somebody else or I.

 

 

If I should undertake to act in anything of contrary sense, or should permit that it will be executed, Thou willst not be merciful to me on the dreadful Day of Divine Justice.

 

 

Accordingly, without exclusion, We subject to severest excommunication anyone -- be it Ourselves or be it another -- who would dare to undertake anything new in contradiction to this constituted Tradition and the purity of the Faith and the Faithful religion, or would seek to change anything by his opposing efforts, or would agree with those who undertake such a blasphemous venture."

 

 

As his oath come to close, Boiendl washes the face of Charles and anoints his forehead with scented oils.

 

 

"Cleansed of worldly taint, you are reborn in the Creator's vision. Your heart blessed in the eternal compassion and truth of Horen; your soul aflame with the benevolent justice and fervor of Owyn; your body awash with the incredulous miracles and charisma of Godfrey; your mind attuned to the unworldly wisdom and vigor of Siegmund."

 

 

Boiendl then garbs Charles in the pontifical cloth, and bestows the pontifical ferula.

 

 

"By this you are known to all as preserver of truths and lord spiritual."

 

 

Boiendl then retrieves the ring of St. Tobias, before sliding it upon the right ring finger of the anointed, and afterward, takes the pontifical mitre and rests it upon his brow.

 

 

"I announce to you a great joy: We have a High Pontiff!

The Most Eminent and Most Reverend Lord,Charles of Felsen. High Pontiff of the Canonist Faith who takes to himself the name

Daniel III"

 

"As we all unfortunately know, our fair Pontiff has passed. GOD must choose his successor from among you holy men. He must attain the required majority Three of Five votes. We shall continue this endeavor until one of you can rise to claim the lost laurels of Horen, which our old friend wore with such dignity. Write your vote on a piece of parchment as provided and grant it to me. By the end, with GOD's help we will find his chosen Vicar."

Tobias I sits in his office reading the scrolls of the canon rubbing his fingers through his hair, gone grey from stress before a strange feeling washes over him. He begins to feel dizzy as a feeling of numbness  washes over his body. Quickly the Pontiff calls for his guards to bring a priest with much haste as he stumbles slowly towards his soft bed. Very shortly after Tobias is in his bed Vice Chancellor Boiendl of Felsen rushes into the room to see the Pontiff in a rough state. Boiendl makes the Lorraine cross over his chest as the sickly Pontiff motions him over. In a staggered voice the Pontiff speaks slowly “I need you... To hear... My final... Confession” The Bishop nods respectfully as he begins to listen to the unconfessed sins of His Holiness. By now the room has filled with any clergy in Luciensport and close friends of Tobias they sob tears of sadness knowing that this will be the last time they see their current Pontiff. Tobias looks to the room, by now his voice is slurred and only half of his face moves. “Do... Not... Fret... My... Children... I... Will... See.. You... I... N.. Heaven.” Despite the unpronounced words he says it with a complete confidence, Tobias was never a man of many spoken words, but the words spoken were precise and to the point. The High Pontiff closes his eyes as he begins to shout in fluent, yet slurred Flexio “Ego videre Lucius tertius! Ego videre sanctus Tobias! Sanctus  Amyas, et pater! Deus magnus, mea est! Gratias ago vos pro vestri amor!”. The Pontiff after a four year reign rests from his duties, dying as the last known Blackwell. The Vice Chancellor makes the sign of the Lorraine cross once more as the room follows suit before he grabs the Papal seal, throwing it into the fire as per tradition to prevent forged documents. “On the Tenth of the Sun’s Smile 1552 His Holiness High Pontiff Tobias First of that name  is hereby declared dead” The Vice Chancellor takes the ring off of the Pontiff’s ring before grabbing a key from the papal robes, the Vice Chancellor walks over to a wooden box as he puts the key in turning it to place the ring in, as he looks to the left side of the box he sees a small written scroll labeled “The Papal will of 1552” the will has very little on it, but holds all of the official seals and signatures

 

We have no close family to give any of our belongings to, and we have no wish to give any items to them even if any did exist. Our belongings are for the Church and the Church only and therefore we leave our personal belongings to our successor.

 

We also wish for the Vice Chancellor, Prince-Bishop Boiendl of Felsen to attend The Ecclesiastical College as an observer because of his official observer role within the Synod. Prince-Bishop Boiendl of Felsen may NOT vote for our successor, but is permitted to be voted for, if GOD chooses to pick any man through the votes of the Synod no man can deny that person’s claim Saint Owyn’s throne.

Lucien III when he was a young acolyte wrote a thesis on this very matter and was criticized on how harsh his words were, however he was was commended by His late Holliness Everard II on having the right idea.  The quote above brings home the key ideas that Everard II ‘The Wise’ commended Lucien III on and should be seen as the view of all true Canonists. With this stated John Godfrey of Vandoria does not hold true Canonist values and is hereby condemned for his actions of making the nation of Vandoria a purely secular nation. Godfrey’s attempt at a secular nation is a greedy and personal move made from the craven like fear he has of the Qalasheen people and he should be seen as a craven who puts his own lust for power before GOD. It is with this knowledge that we hereby annul John Godfrey of Vandoria’s coronization on the grounds that he did not uphold  the following oaths: To uphold the laws of the faith, and to never falter in his conviction and fervour for the word of GOD, to uphold His word and Church? A steel song rings from the souls of all the faithful, my friends, but only those chosen as the Bulwark of the Faith shall find their ears ringing with it's brilliant, bursting crescendo.

 

By the brilliance of the Creator and all of his children, and by the authority of High Pontiff Tobias I, and to be outlined in the Sixth Bull of Holofernes, the Brotherhood of the Holy Palatinate shall be accepting preliminary applications. The Brotherhood's garrison is located in Luciensport

 

The Palatine Code

 

I. STATIONS

 

i. It is we who stand as guardians of the High Pontiff.

ii. It is we who shall protect the Creator's faithful from evil, whenever possible.

iii. It is we who hunt all worshippers of evil and practitioners of darkness.

iv. It is we who keep watch in the lands of the Holy See, and uphold peace and order.

v. It is we who shall be the Vanguard of any Holy Crusades.

vi. It is we who shall carry out the sentences of those convicted of crimes against the Faith and the Holy See.

vii. It is we who shall train the Cyriaum citizen militia in times of need.

 

II. TENETS

 

i. It is we who share, with tolerance and understanding, the word of the Lord.

ii. It is we who maintain a powerful and unwavering faith in the Creator and His word.

iii. It is we who shall seek to embody Horen's Virtue and Owyn's Spirit.

iv. It is we who strive to deliver upon the faithful the embodiments of Godfrey's Gospel and Siegmund's Auspices.

v. It is we who obey, without question, the hierarchy of the Brotherhood, and ultimately word of the High Pontiff.

vi. It is we who shall embrace our fellow Palatines as Brothers, and treat them as such.

vii. It is we who know to violate the Palatine Code is to be stripped of his rank and to be exiled in disgrace.

 

The Hierarchy

 

SENIOR COMMAND

 

--Commandant--

 

The Commandant is the absolute commander of the Brotherhood, whose direct authority is superseded only by the High Pontiff himself. The Commandant advises the High Pontiff and the entire Holy See largely on military matters; primarily defensive. The High Pontiff selects and removes the Commandant at will.

 

--Head Palatine--

 

The Head Palatine is the Commandant’s eyes and ears, as well as his voice. The Head Palatine is an extremely loyal, competent, virtuous, and respected member of the Brotherhood. The Head Palatine has all the powers of command within the Brotherhood that the Commandant has, but can be overridden by the Commandant at any time. The Commandant may add or remove Head Palatines with papal approval

 

HIGH COMMAND

 

--First Palatine--

The First Palatine is a proven, experienced and competent Brother. He is entrusted with drilling the enlisted, leading and organizing patrols and watches, and is the first rank permitted to carry the Standard of the Holy See into battle. First Palatines oftentimes are given specific tasks along with their rank, depending on their individual skills, such as Quartermaster or Disciplinarian.

 

ENLISTED

 

--Palatine--

The Palatine is a veteran guardsman who has proven his virtuosity, loyalty, and efficiency.

The Palatine is the first rank permitted to wear the Lorraine upon his tabard. He is the primary backbone of the Brotherhood, and makes up the majority of the patrols and lines. The Palatine may select a newly promoted Gardist as their direct apprentice. The Palatine who disobeys a single order immediately suffers severe punishment, including, at the least, demotion.

 

--Gardist--

The Gardist is one finally fully recognized and initiated as a member of the Brotherhood. He has proven himself capable of more extensive training, and receives it from the High Command during scheduled drills, or from an Ensign who selects them as their apprentice. The Gardist’s status as a newly initiated Guard gives him a small amount of slack in disciplinary situations, and High Command may be more lenient with them depending on their time as a Gardist and the offense. The Gardist is the first rank permitted to wear the colors of the Holy See upon his tabard.

 

--Initiate--

The Initiate is one who dwells in the Pool of Consideration, and has not been selected from the Pool or been directly Chosen to bypass the Pool. He is not yet a member of the Palatine Guard, and therefore his actions do not reflect the Guard. The Initiate is considered under a trial phase, and he undergoes basic training to consider his worth.

 

The Selection

 

To serve in the Palatine Guard, one must be of at least sixteen years, a male, of the Human race and a faithful member of the Church of the Canon.

 

I. To Be Considered

 

Any faithful man above the age of sixteen may actively apply to the Consideration Pool. If their application is accepted, they shall be given room and board and the title “Initiate.” During their time in the Consideration Pool, no man is considered a member of the Palatine Guard. They shall, however, be expected to attend to whatever duties are assigned to them by any Officer of the Brotherhood, as well as attending regular drills, competitions, and sermons.

 

Through these means, the Commandant and his officers shall evaluate each and every initiate and decide upon the fate of that initiate.
