A nameless sergeant of an independent Barony's guard force sits in the cold room. He'd always wondered why the mesa was so hot in the day, yet so cold in the night. He dipped his quill again in the ink, the cold air rushing through the window. He shivered, and reached for his bearskin coat. He draped it over himself, continuing writing. He stamped a crest at the bottom, and slid a now complete letter into an envelope. His comrades had signed the document earlier, and he'd hoped the terms written would impress them. He'd call a rider to take it to Oren by morning. He collapsed into his bed, staring at the cieling and wondering whether this'd make a difference. His Majesty, King Andrik Vydra of Oren, "Greetings. I write to you to speak for all the humans of Athera. Recently, several faults in this new, reformed kingdom state leaders have formed and given to you have been brought to my attention. I wish to point these out." "The first one, is rulership without representation. I have seen on many maps and documents that states and cities you declare your own never signed the reformation contract, nor pledged allegiance. These will include northern, formerly-Oren territories such as Weissburg, Rothchester, and Draydon, as well as southerns such as Vivitas, Atgaard, and Verren ((all in human territories you declared ownership over)). I actually have knowledge of an anti-Oren organization named the Black Blade, plotting against Oren, for fear it is growing too large in territory, and many areas designated as Orenian have little Orenian occupance/influence." "The second being, disrespect of the church. I can not stress this enough. The house of our Ultimate Lord deserves better than what Oren, Petrus specifically, gives it! The church of Petrus looks abandoned, and I know of one back wing of the church, that actually has a broken window and wall. The structure of the church as well, is horrific. Cobblestones? Those are for ROADS. Would it not kill the builders to cap the towers with avanite, and install stone/clay bricks?" "My third, and final point, is the military. The Petrusian Regiment in particular, under your direct command. I have seen many helpful guards in the force, but they are rather incompetent. If I had a Mina for every time I saw the gate SHUT and UNMANNED, I could buy out ATHERA. I also called for help while being attacked by orcs outside Petrus gates, on the bridge, and the guards refused to help because it was outside Petrus territory. I barely escaped them, and later I heard them telling a Graven to exit Petrus, and the BRIDGE, because it was in Petrus territory." "I understand you are busy, but I do hope you take this into consideration. It is an honest opinion, and I do not mean any offense whatsoever. All of these can be fixed, easily. A solution to my first point would be forming a council, or senate, to vote on decisions, as well as contacting the territory leaders to confirm allegiance, as I am sure they will. The second being a reconstruction of the church. The third being better training and guidelines set for the soldiers." "Thank you for taking the time to read this, your majesty. My comrades and I, a group working for the betterment of Oren, greatly appreciate your listening to our cause." - Anonymous

Jonathan had always been a daredevil. He'd served in many guard forces, and done many stunts he shouldn't have. He lost his leg in 1485 because of it. However, it'd been replaced by a hollowed out metal peg leg, and he was 'fine' now. He'd gotten a home in Petrus, but all that did was chain his spirit. On the 9th of Malin's Welcome, 1492, a comrade of Jonathan had told him of a supposed Nether region in the far west, past orc lands. Jonathan could not help himself. What if it had treasure? A new race of peoples? A hidden city? He said a final goodbye to his friends and Petrus, and headed off, beginning his trek into darkness. He found it, all right. He found hell. It was hot, steamy, and the terrain red and solid. Lava rivers were everywhere. The sky was constantly dark and stuffy, and the crackle of fire and bubbling of lava could always be heard. And he was only 7 steps in. Jonathan trudged through the land, exploring the uncharted regions of this supposed nether. He heard a constant swirling noise, below him. He had only come in search of treasure, or a hidden city, perhaps. The excitement rushed through his veins, and he trekked on. Then, he saw it. It towers above him, floating in a misshaped white blob, with dangling, white, slimy legs below it. It's eyes were closed, and crusty with red matter. It floated through the misty air... and turned towards Jonathan. Then, it's bloodshot eyes burst open, and a flaming ball of fire shot toward him. He could not roll on his peg leg, so he simply batted it back at the ghastly thing, and it hit it dead on. It fell to the earth near Jonathan, and he walked towards it. It had fallen near a lake of sorts. Pure blue, with hypnotic swirling waves. The hot air was enough to kill him alone, and he had only been there for a few hours. He prodded the creature to make sure it was dead, and took a powder from it's mouth and white, crystal tear from it's red eyes, now a maroon color. After looting the corpse of the ghost-creature, he walked towards the lake. He wanted to jump in so bad... it was so hot.. but his leg prevented it. He resorted to kneeling down to collect some water into the canteen... and fell. His hand went right through it! He slid, stomach first, towards a... a void. A swirling void. He grasped for a handhold, anything, and came across a chunk of netherrack, of which the ground was composed of. He swerved sideways, legs dangling into the void, rather than head first. But that was where he went wrong. The metal leg dragged him down like an anvil. He could feel the void, dragging him down, whispering to let go. How could he get back up? Jonathan pondered this a moment, and got it. If the leg dragged him down... it could gain enough mome- the thought was broke off, as his left hand slipped. His right hand was holding his whole body over the void, and he was slipping. He began to swing his legs back and forth, swinging like a pendulum. Finally, the kick from the iron leg drove his legs far enough up on one swing, to where he could safely land back up on the terrain. He did so, rolling up the small hillside, and scrambling back. He was alive. Jonathan Chase breathed heavily a moment, regathering his thoughts. Nether. Treasure. Trek. He was here to search the uncharted territory, for treasures... civilization, and the thrill of an adventure in general. Alright. That was that. He straightened, trembling slightly, and continued forward, taking slow and cautious steps. It was only a few more steps before a hideous sight drove a chill through Jonathan's spine. Above him, sat a corpse, hanging over an ethereal fire via rope. He froze, a chilling sensation sent all over him. Then.. he saw it. A figure loomed in the backround. A golden sword gleamed from it's slimy, decayed grasp. A zombie.. pig.. man? A zombie pigman stood before Jonathan. It seemed to stare into his soul... but didn't move. Jonathan took the first move, striking out... and then it leaped, and they all charged. From every direction, it seemed, zombie pigmen seemed to charge. Jonathan slashed a slot in the rough open, and ran, hobbling on his peg leg, staggering from the air and occasional lava burst, tripping through the rocks and dodging fire. His trip was cut short... but he will find the secrets... and treasures, of this hellish place. He did not regret coming. Not one bit. He will. (( Sequel will be released soon. Hoped you enjoyed. ))

CEDRIC EITH'EL GENERAL INFORMATION Full Name: Cedric Nomtenn Eith'el Nicknames: Ced Year of Birth: 1441 Race: Wood Elf Gender: Male Health: Supreme APPEARANCE Hair Colour: Brown-Red Eye Colour: Sky Blue Tattoos/Markings: 3 parallel, long, large scars on his back. Height: 6 feet 2 inches Weight: 234 lbs. Skin: Fairly tan. Further Details: Cedric is tall and muscled, from long days of slavery as a child. He has fairly handsome features, but rarely smiles. PERSONALITY General Personality: Cedric is grim. His childhood permanently scarred him. He was forced to work the fields and labor heavily for days, with starvation rationing. (The only reason he lived, and is well-built, is due to his family smuggling fruits from the slaveowner's orchard into their quarters.) He, however, will defend the innocent, and believes in justice... no matter how cruel 'justice' can be. Flaws: Cedric absolutely despises the high elves (see why in Cedric's Timeline). He turns into a volcano when around one, ready to erupt at the slightest poke. His grim mood also drives away companions. Strengths/Talents: In the rare occasions when he IS social, Cedric has a way with words. If he wants to, he can build someone up, or absolutely cut them down. He is also very skilled in persuasion. (Find out why in backstory.) FAMILY Parents: Wren [Mother, born 1371, died -] and Acculus [Father, born 1369, died 1456] Eith'el Siblings: Intec Eith'el [brother, born 1478] Pets: Due to his little companions... Cedric befriends animals. He has a betafish named Bill. CEDRIC'S TIMELINE 1441 ~ Cedric is born into a Wood Elven family enslaved by High Elf landowners. The conditions were harsh, and labor constant. They were given starvation rationing, but maintained good health by secretly eating some of the owner's crops and vegetables they harvested, for their own survival against the High Elf slaveowners. 1448 ~ Another enslaved family finds a crate of 17 language, history, and government books that had fallen from a passing carriage. By the time they recovered it, the carriage was out of sight. As reading was the only thing any of the slaves could do in their little free time, Cedric received a rather spectacular education on each of the three subjects, rereading each many times for fun during long nights. He learned a way with words, and practiced socializing on Ned, a small bonsai tree outside the slave quarters. 1456 ~ Cedric's father is beaten to death when caught eating some harvested vegetables. The grief pushed Cedric further down, from his already bleak looking life. Cedric himself is lashed thrice on the back for his father's 'crimes.' 1457 ~ Days before the great flood of Anthos, the slaves begin an uprising, and break free of the clutches of the High Elf slaveowners. Cedric's family takes some of their harvested food and exits hastily to the Fringe to begin a new, free, honest life. 1458 ~ Cedric's family's hope for a new life simply shatters. They aren't wanted, and beg for food for several years, living on the streets and in makeshift tents. 1465 ~ The Eith'el's struggle continues through Thales. 1468 ~ The Eith'el family begins to give up, upon entering Athera. However, they still had a spark of hope for the new land... and it grew into a flame. The Eith'els were welcomed into Laureh'lin, and found a job and small, but nice, residence. They worked as free farmers, and Cedric receives a comprehensive education in known sciences, defensive combat and mathematics. 1478 ~ The Eith'els adopt an orphan newborn, who's father died days before the birth, and mother died during the birth. They name him Intec. A few years later, during the racial split, the Eith'els move to Leyulin, in which they currently reside. Cedric is still scarred by his childhood and vivid loss of his father. He swears revenge on the High Elves.

The End And Explosion Of The Golden Cloud Tavern
Jarek2 replied to Banned By Request.'s topic in Athera Roleplay Archive
Cedric Chase hears the explosion, and later, the news. As he strides by the remains of the Tavern, the strong stench of gunpowder emanating from it, he grimaces. "It was a rather nice place ((for RP)). Shame it had to go." -
Hello everyone! Chase here. I joined LoTC in October 2014 (I was advised by staff to recreate my forum account due to display name, photo, and information glitches). I am a proud Golden VIP of LoTC, and hope to be here a while! So, my name, if you haven't guessed, is Chase. I play Deutschland63 on here, the man of 1000 personas, and live happily in Tennessee, USA. I have been homeschooled for several years, and have a lot of playtime here. I love this community and it's aspects, and I willingly bow down to Lord Knox. I can often be seen on random mini game servers, putting quotes and emotes on my chat messages. In real life, I design with LEGOs, as well as animate, and could probably conquer the world with the sheer number of figures I have. I love this community. Great and halarious peeps. Hope to see you around more! (Also, in the event of a LEGO invasion, just say you are from LoTC.)
