  1. [!] Away from the city of Valdev and in the shade of a pine tree to the east, a lone Mali'ker sat, drafting a journal with a smudgy quill. One meant for her keeping for now, but perhaps one part of a long journey's documentation that might one day make it to a library or more in Aevos. The memories were jotted down with a mixture of curiosity, surprise, and happiness. Next to the Ker was also a bottle of Halfling berry-brew; perhaps a hint of the next chapter in her adventures.

    Spoiler

It was a lonesome night, the 21st of Amber Cold. I’ve spent a long while on my own out in the forests, after the trip to this bold new world. Something was lacking; a spark I used to have before, now snuffed, a candle melted halfway-through. The Cloud Temple and contemplation gave answers and I set off to the world, to explore. And perhaps also - to document for all those struck by the same wanderlust, called by the same purpose.

My journey took me to the north first, to the capital of Hanseti-Ruska. I walked among fields of grey and pale, with speckles of snow and interrupted on either side by the occasional pine tree that grew so high one could believe the stars shining above were merely holes plucked into the sky by their peaks. After a sharp turn down a slope of snowy folds, a sight most unusual stretched out before me: a canvas of colours, a river vale ripe with wheat and many other vegetables planted in neat rows. The river up front in the distance was parted by a formidable fortress, tall stone walls capped with wooden battlements and spires.

After my way into an idyllic village's outskirts, a split in the mountainside revealed the glint and gleam of ores. The gate on that side of the city remained shut, and thus my travel took me further down to another strange sight: a bridge spanning across a ravine; but a river amiss for it was dammed by dozens if not hundreds of critters. Even as I crossed the bridge I heard the creaks and clicks of their teeth against wood as they built their blockage in the riverbed. Through the rest of my visit I would occasionally see a hat or cloak made of their furs, and even an armoured soldier carrying two of them, dead & by the tail.

The entryway to this city had a strange fellow waiting admittance; one Maehr with a single curled black horn on his right temple. The gatekeeper answered our wait soon enough, although not before we saw a statue outside the portcullis move.

I would have prescribed it to my exhaustion from a long journey. Yet my counterpart inside attested to it as well, and the watchman trusted our word. Upon entry we turned to glance back all of us together, including the cousin of the gatekeeper, and saw the form: staring at us from around the gatehouse corner. Those around me left to investigate; by the time they re-emerged from the gatehouse to the bridge, the construct was gone, with no trace to call its own.

Through the gatehouse I beheld this city-fortress from the inside. Houses of two floors, dressed in a multitude of colours, towered on either side of a road headed to a great cathedral of the human faith. Around what looked like a central square stood a commotion, an armour-clad man questioning another, naming them traitor. It took me a turn into the crowd to notice the one he questioned was not merely in armour; it was a construct with gleaming eyes and a heart replaced with a magical core.

The construct seemed to hold memories of a man many knew in the crowd, yet perceived a monstrosity to be dismantled at the same time. Before a decision could come, a loud bellow broke the attention of the crowd. An accusation of one present, to have consorted with Darkspawn! A grave one of that, and the attention immediately shifted to this man - who instead of immediate denial, fell in a maniacal cackle before proclaiming innocence. More on his fate later…

Soon enough, both the construct and the accused were swallowed by the city and I was left to explore, briefly entering the house of Faith so well-decorated from the outside, but also so foreign from the inside. Despite my blatant lack of familiarity, there was still much to admire, especially the stonework - these humans built something so slender and so tall it felt nigh impossible for it to remain standing.

Leaving the cathedral I found myself in an alley, confronted by a mouse-creature; sentient and curious. She spoke of sweet words and seemed interested in the armour I bore. I offered her a promise of reward for a tour around the city, presuming she would be familiar with most nooks and twists.

Thus we set off and I found myself flung through streets so narrow and desolate I could hardly see the sun above. Some of these alleyways had houses with broken windows, the insides pilfered through. I saw the outside of a grandiose building, the “Raev house” - alas, my tour guide knew little of its purpose or point, beyond its bright red colour that seemed to appease her eyes.

Our tour was interrupted by a cadre of guardsmen fully armoured, marching down the main street of the city. I questioned my guide about the events unfolding, but was soon provided an explanation in the form of an arrow whistling through the air towards the guards.

Crossing the street I happened upon a similarly crowded and narrow part of town, with a fully armed entourage who seemed to hail from the Kingdom of Aaun. A note for the future, and perhaps for my next destination - though wary of their perception of elves, as I was told later.

By happenstance, I stumbled into my counterpart from the gatehouse once more, who now revealed to be in the city to sell spell-nullifying arrows. I was offered a glance upon his stall and the other maehr wares he sold, and found another future destination amidst our discourse: the city of Vortice.

Leaving the kin to his business, I found the gatekeeper who let us both into the city, and in him, the one who would answer my final few questions of this city. We chatted alongside a game board by the tavern, and he was eager to speak of his people. Haense is a close-knit community of those faithful and devout who seek to stand against the tides of darkness, and prosper together. They rejoice in the little things and celebrate their community and their achievements, but remain humble and acknowledge the success of others too. Their struggle made manifest in the fortress they built to live in, warding the pristine and beating heart of their culture as much as the walls of a family home would protect the sanctity of the family & hearth.

There was only one question left - the confirmation that there in fact exists a cathedral taller than the one in the middle of the Hanseti-Ruskan capital. I expressed my gratitude and bid farewell, then made my way to the gatehouse where quite the commotion had developed for my departure. All that remained was to find a place to rest and to continue the journey to the next town I would visit.

Unfortunately, I could bring neither gift nor welcomes to those living there. But once I return, perhaps, I can offer something of value. Service, a poem or an item to showcase my craftsmanship. Their hospitality most definitely earned it - and there is definitely more to see in both the city and the realm.

That is what is needed - another person. One is enough. And then you start roleplaying. It gets boring because nothing is happening? Your fault entirely.

But I want people to bring me on epic adventures and shower me with magics & artifacts.

  3. Never understood the "Road RP" argument vs fast travel.

If you would use fast travel, but are forced to walk instead, it means you want to get from A to B quick and any "road RP" will be perceived more an interruption trying to get to your destination.

If you wouldn't use fast travel seeking road RP, well, then adding fast travel doesn't change a thing.

I don't think I can count a single instance of enjoyable road RP moment I've engaged in, ever. Most of it was either ooga-booga raiders stopping me and me darting away after a pvp countdown, or me attempting to provide high quality raiding content through PvP immersion and the target refusing to engage and rushing away immediately.

  4. A gamer who's hijacked other players' forum accounts to send death threats and obscenities to a playerbase is currently unbanned. I unironically still have the forum message I received from him.

Another gamer removed from staff for PEX abuse and strolling around on the server with a banned player's alt account on their side was never in fact banned.

Why are NLs held to much higher an expectation than staff, and why is it that the only staff infraction that seemingly warrants a permanent ban similar to the one handed out to NLs is the infraction of Pun/Flambo/Sky?

Also, as an NL you'll be in crossfires with every single discord message and forum post stashed away for evidence for an eventual ban report, no matter how small a fraction they are of what you send a day. I've had an ongoing report against me a week into being an NL quoting an "offensive version of a transformer song lyric re-write targeting a playerbase". Usually it's the case of a community reaching for OOC tools to "get rid of" an NL. In the case of that report, I'm glad moderation saw through it and handled it appropriately.

A discussion with lecturer Acalmaehr Sethironn'an piqued my interest, especially the prospect of learning about more than magic and its applications. I wasn't involved in formal education since leaving the Silver State as a refugee and drifter, and I hope the Academy can fill the gap.

    Ban Reason

    Server Guidelines Violation - https://i.gyazo.com/bdca36ff4f552a2f867c9ff38d6113c0.png

What circumstances led to this ban?

I understand I've nagged Flambo and Pun for inactivity and ineptcy in staff matters. Specifically, I've @ed flambo many times calling them out on the resignation, lore games, etc. As well as Pun, calling them out on targeted bans and mishandling of stuff.

There were two sides to this; I did have some more private conversations with the two, and even spoke to Pun in discord lengthy about the situation - after I was given a verbal warning on the above.

Eventually, things didn't change, perhaps you're familiar with the state of the server at the time, discontent grew. I made some vote / callout threads, eventually started @ing Pun openly and then called them out with an accusation on the detail that eventually had them removed & banned just two weeks after my own ban. Along the line I encouraged people to ignore them and defy them to make it known that things shouldn't continue the same way - I admit, that was a far reach.

Are there aspects of the ban you agree and/or disagree with?

Both admins I clashed with have since been removed and banned for pedophilia. I do say, though, that I only knew of one's actions, and only as a hearsay/rumour at the time.

I understand Pun was infamous for targeted bans - but do admit that I believe the suspension was justified at the time.

The crux of the ban was related to quoting the community guidelines, which I believe I tried to uphold to the last - having posted a dozen or so various feedback threads to drive discussion and communicating with both admins I clashed with.

What motivates you to return to LOTC?

Not much of a return, more so setting things right. I've spent two and a half years more in Davy Jones' locket than my appeal time, and MC roleplay came up in a discussion. Perhaps have a look around, say hi to a few people.

    Attach other relevant information.

Realised I wasn't technically given an admin ban, so my appeal filed was in fact wrong - it was a ban by Fireheart with appeal pending 15th of January 2020.

I apologize, I might be misinterpreting what you’re saying but from what I understand, you don’t like the fact there’s a separate post. If that’s the case, let me assure you that should this get accepted, I would hope it gets torn apart and added into its respective threads. So this post would cease to exist, but its information would go to the respective places.

No misinterpretation at all. Exactly what I meant and the outcome I would hope for. Three Thanhium pages … three conjuration ones.

However, in the current state of the lore staff it'd be a pleasant surprise if they didn't make this into /three/ wholly nee threads and then force-retconned them before shelving them into Schroedinger's necromancy pit.

Natalia spoke light, reading the proclamation in Helena's main square.

"And then came the blood sacrifice. The final act of madness. Your church has impaled the faith of man, a spear of decadence driven by the hands of greed and corruption. The faith of the Canonist flock won't ever be restored to what it used to be. Carry the consequences of your corruption and do not pretend we won't remember. We will. Forever."

There’s a thread on Animii out there. There’s also a thread on magical prosthetics.

Now you’d post and store a thread on magical animii limbs. Which people would be unable to find if they looked at the magical limbs thread, or the animii crafting thread.

    1. When will you acknowledge the complete lack of trust the community has towards you as staff? Will there be any voice or word about improvements in regards to how bans are handled, and how player feedback is handled?

    1. How will you resolve the current admin situation? You centralised positions to have more authority, but when staff members disappeared you were left with a vacuum that couldn’t be filled and paralysed or disorientated departments.

    1. Will there be any word on the staff bias and relevant concerns raised during the current Oren conflict? Specifically in regards to an administrator over-reaching their power sphere and announcing a decision based on false information, and without consulting his management or team?

    1. Will you stop putting people on forum content moderation for calling your staff incompetent in LOTC discord?
  14. Your staff team and server are wholly incapable of handling a warclaim. The last one was riddled with both technical and staff errors.

Yet here you stand, seeking to impose further limits on on-server, everyday warfare. You would further restrict the act of “war” and “conflict” to warclaims.

Why don’t you think over the whole situation already? The issue is not the raiders. The issue is not PvP. The issue is not conflict. The issue is your restriction on conflict forcing it to boil into toxicity. If players can’t duke it out, they will duke it out in discords, on the forums. Your focus should be ensuring that nations CAN and WILL enforce consequences on each other, even with everyday raiding. But at the same time, your focus should be to LIMIT these consequences to details that “hurt” and “cost” nations, but have nothing to do with the destruction of playerbases.

“It’s a teacup pattern. I was informed by post-vulture that the Norlandic Horse Company still does own horses and will (magically) exhibit an exponential growth, as most animal farms in Atlas seem to. I immediately purchased some shares, as your theft and the following slide made it unusually profitable.”

She offered a glass of brandy to the soldier, adding. “Buy low, sell high.”

  16. Where is the community in the community team? Where's some answers or explanations to the horrible staff performance this past month? Where is any update on what feedback staff took to work on and what they cast aside?

Really, you posted a "Community team" update which is 70% about applications and 30% about content you did not yet create but promise you will.

  17. 1. You did not link a "your view on war" thread, you linked a view thread trying to justify one single bad decision out of a dozen in the war.

    2. You did not adress the ridiculously low support you have in the community and your failure to address player feedback. When will any of these gain attention?

From the office of the Imperial Chamberlain,

I have assumed the position of court Chamberlain on the 6th of Horen’s Calling, 1718. His Imperial Majesty, Godfrey III., has entrusted me with overseeing the management, growth and restoration of the imperial court from the state in which it was left due to the war and the all-too-recent siege of Helena. I solemnly swear to fulfill this responsibility to my utmost capabilities and opportunities. Three short announcements I will make pertaining both the citizenry of the Renatian Empire and the present Imperial court:

To the present and prospective Servantry of the Palace,

In line with the noble audit of the realm, I will be conducting a parallel, albeit far less serious and grandiose inspection of present employees and residents of the Rubrummagnus. I wish to meet each of you for proper introductions. Those who seek employment in any rudimentary position at the palace may seek me out or pen me a letter and arrange for a meeting at the earliest convenience.

To the Ladies of the Court who reside at the palace,

I would like to invite you one-by-one to tea and a discussion pertaining the court, your individual personas and backgrounds as well as your ambitions in the Empire. Specifically, there have been multiple requests communicated towards me prior to my appointment related to a debutante ball and the restoration of proper courting traditions.

To the Esteemed Nobility of the Realm,

Let it be known that I am open to aid you and your courts in various matters, and also gladly co-operate with the esteemed vassal-courts of the Imperium. The Empire is bound together by something more than martial might; a sense of unity which is ought to be reinforced and cemented further in the following years, especially as victory against the rebels draws closer. For any matters related to court, advice, etiquette, host-organisation, or medical aid you may pen me a letter and I will seek to attend to your individual courts as soon as I am able to.
