  1. Charter Changes /  Update

All of these changes will begin to take place immediately and warnings will start to be delivered at this Saturday's activity post. (13th of July)

    Activity Requirements

Every Charter and Nation is required to meet a minimum quota of activity weekly, which varies depending on their tier. In case they fail to meet their quota once it will be indicated by a "[!]" next to the name of their region when the Arcas Activity Data  post is updated. Each week that a charter or nation fails to meet the required activity it will be logged and taken into consideration at the end of the month. The team will then decide what to do, based on how many weeks they missed their activity quotas, their particular circumstances, etc. Each charter or nation will have to be considered on a case by case basis for both whether they face removal/downgrading and how long they have to correct their activity before that takes place.

Nations will not be effected by this until the month of August. Charters will be especially scrutinised over the next two weeks, meaning if a charter fails to meet these activity quotas by the 27th, they will be downgraded or flat out removed depending on circumstances. Starting the month of August both nations and charters will follow the paragraph above this one.

    Minimum Activity Quota:

    T1 Charters : 0.3%

    T2 Charters : 0.6%

    T3 Charters : 1.2%

    T4 Charters : 2%

    Nations : 3%

  2. MC Name: Suxals

    Character's Name: Angelo

    Character's Age: Around 120

    Character's Race:

    Ascended

    Link to your accepted MA:

    https://www.lordofthecraft.net/forums/topic/162139-ascended-ma-angelo-de-alba/

What magic(s) will you be teaching?

    Ascended

Summarise the Lore of this magic(s):

The Ascended are individuals that have chosen to serve the Archaengul Aeriel, caretaker of souls and ruler of the Soulstream, acting as immortal defenders of the descendants at the Mortal Plane.

In order to fulfil their duty the Aechaengul Aeriel granted them several boons, including immortality, enhanced vision, immunity to diseases and the ability to set buffs and debuffs along with other utility/support spells; but she also demanded an equal commitment to test their faith by making them sterile (Unless with other Ascended) and slowing their regeneration to half the rate of an average descendant.

The magic of the Ascended is based around the utilization of Tearstone Shards, these objects of deific origin allow an Ascended to absorb water from the Mortal Realm and translocate it into the Ebrietas, bringing back Astra as the result of an equivalent exchange. If the Tearstone shard of an Ascended is broken or taken away from their immediate proximity they will be unable to cast any spell and they will need to wait for it to reform within their body.

The Astra that is brought from the Soulstream can be utilized to cast spells with the help of a Tearstone Shard and the ability of Highlighting, which consists of aiming at the target individual with one's tearstone and embelop them with soft light.

As an Ascended spends time practicing and becomes more used to their new condition (tiers) they may gain access to higher amounts of Astra, which would allow them to cast spells that require great amounts of it, however the power of the different spells does not vary by the amount of Astra that ones utilizes for it.

Also the maximum amount of Astra that an Ascended can hold can be reduced if the Ascended practises other magics aside from Ascendism, like for example Voidal Magics.

If Astra enters in contact with voidal water it will try to absorb it and turn it into Astra, which will fail due to the alien composition of the former one and it will cause the Astra to destabilize and fall apart, making it extremely dangerous for Ascended.

Every Ascended must follow the will of Aeriel and respect her covenants, because if they go against them their Tearstone may undergo the process of Blackening, which would drastically reduce their storage of Astra and would leave their crystallized soul defenceless against the process of Soul Shattering.(disconnection)

However, through the Trial of the Damned and the help of a teacher, an Ascended with a blackened Tearstone is able to redeem from their wrongdoings and restore it to its original state.

The regeneration of an Ascended is increased several time while they bathe within the waters of an Astral Sanctuary, and there they might also utilize the Astral Dream to heal injuries that could put in risk their lives or reattach their limbs.

    1e27iGH2M0yqmVGJSGBjOso2DhKn4ICSA8e_uCuHeZ9unxCzfRU2tLhy2w8L65v_Fo-HGw5cx0c4c7-KpmZb5e_Tl-vT6xAtuNFOampNzd2j8xevloBtmdgKcDCfa0q3bxOZjEM9

Issued and declared by His Royal Majesty Pierce I of House Devereux on 10th of Snow's Maiden, 1721

    Introduction:

The Order of Ursus was born from the ashes of the Principality of Curon at Bear Mountain and became a stepping stone for all the glory that came afterward. Its founding father and first Grand Knight, Wilhelm Devereux rests in the Seven Skies along with the Original First Knights, but the Order of Ursus managed to survive thanks to the examples and Virtues that they left as their legacy to us all.

Following its humble origins, the requirements to become a Knight or Dame of the Royal Chivalric Order of Ursus are not related to the social status of the aspirants, but instead directly tied with the merits they have accomplished and the service they have provided to the Kingdom of Curonia and the Royal Family. The members of the Order of the Ursus are the most worthy men and women of the kingdom, free of corruption, and committed to the Crown and the Virtues.

    Oath:

“I am the bone of my sword

Steel is my body, fire my blood.

I have clashed with a hundred blades.

Despite my loss, as well as pain.

    Battled descendant and abomination

    all for Curonic revival.

    I combat my Lord’s resents,

    for that is my path.

    Enemies, beware,

    the Ursurian Wrath.

With these words, embedded in me,

I swear my loyalty to the Devereux tree.

I, [Name], hereby pledge my allegiance to

    Curon and Lord Devereux.

I shall follow the Ursurian code,

    until my final days.

That is my oath, in the name of God.”

Imagine being a thief. You see a window that could fit someone of your size and there’s no one around. Despite this single, thin pane of glass, you’re forced to break down multiple consecutive iron doors at the main entrance.

Imagine bein able to open that window without need to break it ?

And ironbars/fences aren't something that someone could easily break without proper tools to remove them.

We’ve punished players for misusing the feature of window-breaking just to spite a community by breaking as many windows as they possibly can. I’ve personally punished players for it. Allowing players to break glass windows, iron bars, fence windows, etc. is there to allow these players alternatives in gaining access to an area.

Well, then you should certainly put writen systems on place to avoid the missuse of those rules and clarify the cases when they can be utilized.

  5. Post made at request of @Fireheart_ and @Telanir

The recent changes to window breaking rules left a sour taste in my mouth  due to the following reasons:

1- I helped to run Curon since its reformation a few months ago and the amount of glass panes that we had to replace weekly was really annoying, especially because they take some time to craft and dyes are quite rare. I think that's an issue should be addressed and in the same fashion that GMs don't break/unlock the doors that are lockpicked, windows should be replaced after the people that broke it left the place.

2- Windows are something purely aesthetic that don't provide any mechanical function besides look pretty and therefore you should not punish people for attempting to make interesting buildings instead of plane walls with only 1 access. Prettier buildings catch the attention of new players, and by modifying those rules you will force the playerbases to modify their styles to adapt to new systems where raiders can't break their windows or outright remove them. People adapts quickly and and rules become easily useless… like when you implemented raid ladders, now every building/wall is ladder-proof.

3- You added the bolt cutters with the implementation of Heist rules but they are not mentioned in the edit related to breaking windows… perhaps you could keep the current rolls but add the requirement of bolt cutters? And are bolt cutters required for Heists rn?

4- Now that players can break iron bars and wood fences…. What will stop them from breaking gates or in the case that you put gates off limits, what would happen if i add a gate sign to my iron-bar windows?

( This post was made with haste since i don't have much free time xoxo )

  6. I believe the main issue with members of the staff with access to privileged information also being part of the staff of other server is the potential for an active and passive leak of sensitive information and their conflict of interests if issues arise between both communities, however there is nothing stopping a member of the staff to leak information to others so the fact that they are staff of another server really doesn't matter, anyways i agree with Harold in the fact that it does look bad in the eyes of part of the community and from my own point of view it should be avoided.

  7. I,  Lord Angelo Ferdinand of House de Alba, Count of Astorga, swear fealty to Curonia, House Devereux , and the Ducal Throne of Curon. I shall serve as a loyal vassal to the patriarch of House Devereux and Duke of Curon, from this moment until death. My house shall be bound to House Devereux as its vassal for all of posterity.

My sword is his to command. My house is his to protect, and my banners are his to summon. I shall uphold the Virtues of Curonia, and live beneath the eternal guidance of our Paragons and the light of our God. The Green Tide Rises, for we stand as one. Ave Curonia .

  8. -I think you should expand on what "dependency" implies since it is mentioned as something important.

-When a charter reaches nation activity and applies for nation status, do they need to pay for their tile? How much?

-What happens if there are 2 charters within 1 tile and 1 one of them become a nation?

-Will the activity checks continue after the 2 months of probation?

  9. Definitely 1 hit kills need to go regardless of how many emotes you use, that's simply bad and doesn't provide any rp to the target of them since you haven't interacted with them during a good amount of emotes.

Imo mages should be able to use their 5 magic slots as they wish without restrictions besides some magics taking more slots than others, so if schools further lock away stuff then i will be against it.

I made a feedback post about the same announcement if you would like to check it out, however i didn't bring up the part related to combat.

Ps: might want to ping flamboyant.

  10. Okay so... i read @FlamboyantNewEra 's announcement and thought about comment my thoughts about it, however since the post was locked i will do it here instead, i invite you all to express what you think of it and discuss the points that i bring up.

    LT Direction 2019

    So lets begin

    Quote

My mindset for lore is that lore should not exist simply to exist and/or shouldn’t exist simply to give a small group something. All playable or interactable lore should have something for the majority. A playable creature should be built in a way where it grants other players cool and interesting encounters. Magics should also bring things to the table in a similar manner.

I don't agree, whether or not magics provide something to the majority of the community isn't strictly related to the lore itself but to the rp that is created with it, you can write lore for the best creature that Lotc ever had, but if only 5 players play it and they do it secretly it won't provide roleplay to the majority, only for those 5 players, while something as basic as a fae creature could get a community based around them and perhaps even a settlement of their own, creating unique roleplay for the entire server.

So in my opinion the playerbases and what they do with their characters is more important than the lore itself as long as it provides them something unique around what they can build a good story. However the LT shouldn't punish players if they wish to be secretive with their magics, sometimes that is just a consequence of roleplay or they prefer that kind of characters.

    Quote

No pure combat magics should exist that do not also have an aspect to it that creates RP.

Agreed, however combat is a really good way of creating roleplay, so it shouldn't be completely removed.

    Quote

Aesthetic pets are fine to an extent, but we don’t need 30 different kinds if they aren’t bringing something else to the table. They should all have some kind of playability outside of their aesthetic nature.

Can't agree on this, aesthetics are really nice and creatures shouldn't be something to harvest magical materials/loot, that's actually something bad that promotes people to do events with a mmorpg mentality, only caring about what they can get instead of enjoying of the rp. And actually i believe that there aren't enough creatures for an universe like Lotc’s, but some creatures shouldn't be able to be acquired through events anymore since they were meant specifically for former maps.

    Quote

The techlock needs clarifying. This should have been done the moment that the techlock was conceived by whoever came up with it. Instead, we’ve spent a handful of years with a vague notion of what isn’t allowed which leads to a lot of arguments on what is allowed if that thing does not blatantly break the techlock.

The first step here is going to be clarifying what technology does exist on LotC. This’ll be done in different chunks. For example, we’ll clarify what is currently possible in terms of medicine, medical practices, tools, et cetera. A number of people seem to think we have modern day tools or surgery practices with no real risk for infection, which might be true if you’re using magic, but a regular surgery would have plenty of risk if you’re not careful.

I want to say that this could be given a priority, but that isn’t possible. There is plenty of lore that is implemented that is causing issues, which we need to focus on first before we can focus on technology and improving things. This isn’t to say it won’t be worked on, but the rate at which it is won’t be expedited. I intend to have this started around March, once the January/February projects are completed (described at the bottom).

That's something that really needs to be addressed, once the tech that we have is defined people will know what they can or can't do. A bit more of tech could be interesting, however too much of anything is bad.

As for medicine… i think people should be able to roleplay more or less modern medicine, not 21th century one, but at least know how to treat patients without remove their teeth trying to cure their madness… especially since heal with things like alchemy is fairly easy and in the most of the cases it only requires to drink a potion.

    Quote

    Playable Creatures

As I mentioned in my previous announcements, we’re currently developing a creature tier list to help organize the creatures. More powerful creatures will be placed in the higher tiers, but with that will come strict requirements. In order to be a higher tier creature, it must be thoroughly fleshed out in any potential way that can be seen in RP. More information will be included in the creature tier thread when it is ready. I have a preliminary draft done, but it still needs fleshing out by the LT.

We will also be doing a final sweep through creatures to patch some of the remaining issues (e.g. fixing the Zar’ei situation), but for the most part we are finished assigning rewrites.

Sounds good, will there be limits on the amount of people playing the high tier creatures?

    Quote

    Lore Foundations + Magic

I want to finish the major foundation rewrites in the next few months. My goal is to have feedback chats for the void and deity rework up by the end of February. Once that is done, we will start discussions on how to rework the magics that fall under the two categories.

The current mindset of the administration is that we want to cut down on the amount of magics we have and set up a solid core group of magics. This doesn’t mean we’ll axe a majority of the magics, but I will be looking to consolidate a number of them. How this will be done will be determined during our talks with the community. I intend to have some of the LT draft up a few methods of doing so (e.g. creating schools of magic and merging magics together that match thematically while altering them to match the newly made schools or merging magics together that make sense to merge and leaving it at that).

We will still be moving forward with the mindset of limiting the combat potential in magic (e.g. removing the large spells that can take out crowds) while buffing the non-combat potential in order to encourage creativity. This does not mean that combat magics will be rendered useless, but there will no longer be one man armies or one shot magics allowed.

I believe the most interesting part of Lotc is the diversity of magics and creatures, so i can't do nothing but disagree with the idea of the removal of a big chunk of them, however if what you are looking is to improve them then i'm fine with it.

I would like to hear more about the merging and different schools of magics, but at first sight it makes me thing that it could lead to simplify stuff too much and make it less interesting, but that's just based on what my mind believes it could be.

    Quote

p.s. Yes I’m aware the lore section of the forum is messy at the moment, it’ll be cleaned up once the librarians finish some stuff. In addition, the magic app section is undergoing some organization at the moment to help people find CAs vs MAs easier, as some folks have complained about the two being mixed before.

Lovely. But also wouldn't be better to put lore submissions, lore with pending fixes and lore in activity trial under the lore subforum? Rn all of them are under the application forum and just makes it more messy and hard to navigate through them.

(will fix formatting later, on my phone rn)

  11. Well, imo PKs due to age should be totally enforceable and you shouldn't be able change the age of your character at will, only when created (but even this could be cheated by just creating a new persona)

However by looking at the whole thingy of the curses it is a bit unjust, bloodlust is mostly used as an excuse to fight, the lust of dwarves... i think i don't even need to explain it, Elves have lots of children regardless of the /sterility/.

But at the same time i believe that it gives natural development and change for humans, something that doesn't happen with the most of the other races. (For example i know elven characters that are exactly like when i met them for first time 2 years ago...)

  12. 4 minutes ago, Sky said:

Which is it’s own can of worms – What is the point of humans having short lives, and elves having long lives, if even the lore team don’t care if you play the same twenty year old character for two years straight zzz

Of course, and i really dislike it, but this topic is about the speed of agging and not about the age limits or if characters should or shouldn't be PKed. (Also apparently you can just buy race changes with crowns and Boom!!!, your 70 years human is a now a teen-looking elf)

  13. Okay so:

    For WD regarding next map:

-Tiles seem pretty small and limits the natural development of Nations, will nations be able to acquire tiles in the next map? If the answer is yes, how will that system work?

-Freebuild, charters or both? What will be the requirements for charters if they are implemented?

-Were the roads fixed after all the feedback given by the community?

-Will there be a temp map?

-Do you think the new map could last more than 18 months?

    For LT:

-Lore subforum is a mess, you shelved magics or made changes on them through announcements but the posts weren't edited/moved to reflect this.

-Whats the ic explanation behind all the changes that have taken place? Like undeads getting back to life... did their souls leave the Soulstream and different realms or were they copied and now there exist 2 souls of each person that became a ghouls?

-Will the LT post lore of Perpetiael, Gavrael and Jophiael any time soon? I think they are an important part of the  history of the 4 brothers. Also why are they still kept into the golden relics, wouldn't that be against the mentality of many Aenguls?

-Will the LT ever explain why Gazardiel suddenly disappeared when he was so eager to fulfill his goal?

-What are your thoughts regarding people roleplaying that they go to Aeldin even when there is no way of doing so from Atlas?

-Will you limit the species of animals that will live in the next map? Its a bit weird to find animals that were specific of some continents in the others, i think each map should have its specific fauna and LT work to make it interesting.

-I read that you plan to completely migrate all the lore to the Wiki, what's the reasoning behind this? In my opinion the layout and design of the wiki is not pleasant to see and totally outdated, do you plan to get it changed soon?

    For GM:

-What are your thoughts regarding GMs using their permissions to meme, fly or spy roleplay when they are not in duty? And what is done to avoid this? Do you check their logs regularly?

-Why are GMs able to remove their names from the list of players online? What if a player needs them urgently?

-Are GMs allowed to lead nations/big playerbases? Couldn't this lead to passive bias?

For Devs, Telanir and admins :

-What will happen to those that have items soulbound with soulbind tokens during the transition? Will they lose their purchase?

-What happens if someone with 1 use soulbound items are pugsied or die due to the fault of the staff, is the soulbind token given back to them?

-What have you planned for the vault system? Only signed items of any of them? Will GMs sign important items like last year?
