— THE ROUND TABLE ELECTIONS OF 1933 — WITH THE NOMINATIONS COMPLETE, the citizens of the Commonwealth of the Petra must now come together to vote for who they wish to represent them on the Round Table. Johanna Barclay watched from the seven skies as the two sailed. She had been watching for quite some time, over the Carrot. Watch him find new paths for his life to take him, make new connections to fill his heart, surround himself with friends as she always hoped he would. Johanna had always been a rather selfish woman, she had thought, but watching him grow and keep going had made her happy. Perhaps she had wished that she could've left the Duchess on the shore, and Johanna sail alongside them, but all she could do was watch from the skies, hope that the winds would be warm and carry them as far as their hearts desired.

This is not the first Haense slideshow I have made. Three years ago, I made a slideshow of Haense's time on Arcas, not really knowing if I'd be around for the next one. But here we are, here I am, and here still Haense remains. Over the last three years, Haense has changed, as has everyone in it. Just to try to be vaguely helpful to the staff here to give them some alternative idea for what to do with 300 bored players for the next two weeks: Just put us in some weird large stone box with some vortex supplies in the middle. On January 20th, she was diagnosed with Patent ductus arteriosus (PDA). Basically, this means that a valve in her heart did not close after she was born like it was meant to. This valve pumps blood into her lungs and then back into her heart, causing it to become enlarged and eventually kill her. Johanna sat in a cabin within the seven skies, happily milling about among an evergreen forest. The Palatine had walked through some of the later accomplishments of Karl’s reign; she stood alongside him as they drafted missives and architecture planning together. When the ripple that was Karl’s death echoed throughout the Seven Skies, she stepped out onto her front porch and looked to the clear skies and forest that resembled that around Karosgrad so closely, she smiled. “Allow yourself the peace you are owed, And watch the world you have built continue.” Wandering home from the Brotherhood of Saint Karl’s barracks, a small girl cloaked in a bear pelt looked up from the square of Karosgrad. She saw something that others could not, and she waved as she saw another soul ascend. “Goodbye, safe travels.” She watched for another moment before continuing to walk.

The Five of Cups stands for loss, grief, disappointment, sadness, mourning, and discontent. Generally being depicted with three cups being knocked over or falling, representing the current loss, and two cups still upright that are ignored as the figure is more focused on mourning what is lost than what remains. If only the figure looked to what was left, perhaps their loss would be less painful. If only Johanna had looked to what she had, perhaps she would’ve stopped dreaming of what could have been. BORROWED PLACES, AND LONG LOST FACES The Unfinished memoirs of the Duchess of Reinmar These are currently unpublished. Over the course of the memoirs, the writing gets worse, as if her vision was deteriorating. MY LANDSLIDE OF LIFE PART ONE: THE PATH I WANT AND THE PATH I TAKE I was a small, sickly child who stayed indoors and read books, practiced music, and drew. For years I only knew two worlds, the inside of Reinmar, and the world inside my own mind; a fantasy of stories of nonexistent kingdoms, empires, with princesses riding off on adventures with no care to hold them down. The little love stories I had written about the lovely lady who took her fate into her own hands and escaped from expectation. I never expected for my own life to come to mirror some of those fantasies. When I got word that Konstanz was gone, I didn’t even realize what it meant, until I was walking solemnly down the hallway towards my room, and peered at the marking on his door. It did not read Konstanz, or any nickname for him. In plain words it spelled out a title. “Baron von Sigradz” It snapped me back to the reality that was sitting right in front of me. That title couldn’t be empty. It wasn’t going to be the life of our father retiring, and then Konstanz being in charge and then his son or daughter moving into the room. It was me. I was next. There was no son, there was no Konstanz. My older sisters were married, the Karenina accord was in effect, and Eugen was younger than me. It was me, and now I have to figure out what to do with it. I started out by trying to make some friends- I met Adele Ludovar and she seems nice, but other than her, it’s been a slow going project. I’ve been kind of lonely, actually. I thought I was used to being alone and self sufficient, but somehow I’ve surprised myself. Maybe I just didn’t miss it because I never had it. In the spirit of making new friends, or out of my own selfishness (I have yet to pinpoint exactly which one, but most likely the latter), I have decided to step out and go on adventures. I started by simply riding out the gate of Karosgrad, and into Fenn. Down in the caves of Nor’asath, I was looking into the deep hot spring pools when I spotted an octopus, and Princess Catherine of Oren spotted me. After an explanation of exactly why I was laying on the cave floor, glaring into a pool, Cat and I decided to go for a swim and attempt to capture the creature. After much difficulty swimming around the pool, Cat caught our new friend, ‘Alfredo’. After brief, and both false introductions, we set off for Celia’nor as “Cat” and “Hanna”, both with no last names; neither of us knowing the truth of who the other was, and neither caring. From Celia’nor to Amaethea, where I met Cat’s friend, and hopeful (on his side) love interest, Nika, Sea Captain of the Scarlet Eye crew. He wasn’t particularly quick to catch on to Cat’s wish for secrecy, and out of his own wish for bantering and joking with her, revealed her royal secret with a few cheeky “Your Highnesses”. We snuck off to a secluded spot once Nika had left, and she told me the full truth of where Nika’s greetings were coming from. With Catherine’s identity out in the open, I revealed my own and my purpose for traveling. As it turned out, it seemed to be fate that brought us together. We were both running from reality And chasing our real selves. PART TWO: CHASING MYSELF To be behest of my ambition, Cat and I continued on. We went to the Vale of Neveahlen, where Nika continued with us and we played childrens games among the trees. We wandered the halls of the library, browsing the books of the elves and their history. Wandering the caves and running my fingers along strange wooden carvings, and the large, comforting sculpture of a bear. We enjoyed our time in the Vale, and I would return again, and I hope to do so again in the future. I met a tall, burly man in Oren, he rode atop a horse which he cared for deeply. He appeared to be a gentle giant, perhaps a little slow, but he was soft, and comforting, and perhaps his kindness filled something in me that had been missing. “Vanhart von Alstreim” His name echoed within my ears like the answer to a question I had been long avoiding, but required attention. He was someone I wished to get to know, to see the world with; and so we invited him along. He came back to the Vale with us where I showed him that great wooden bear that had drawn me to the warmth of the firepit in its lap, and the musical instruments that lined up around it, and by the time we were done exploring and reminiscing, I had to return home. There was a promise that we would go to other places together, but we had expected it to be some time before we would see eachother again. I had known that since my brother's death, some things in my life would need to go differently than I had envisioned. Mainly, my relationship status. I had wanted to never marry originally, to explore and do as I pleased. I wanted to leave my mark on the world through physical creations, not children, but art, architecture, writing. When I was faced with my strange sort-of-uncle-Pontiff standing in front of me introducing me to my betrothed, there were two things that knocked the wind out of me. One, that I was going to get married soon, and that this was going to be only the beginning of my life changes that come with heirship. And two, that the man that Klaus was introducing me to was none other than Vanhart von Alstreim. Klaus, rightfully, seemed rather shocked that we already knew each other. I was just happy that I was betrothed to the only man that I could ever see myself happily putting on a wedding dress for. PART THREE: FAMILY LIKE FLIES My enjoyable explorations came to a shuddering halt the day of my wedding, surprisingly, not because of the wedding. I was wearing white, the stupid getup I had prepared, with a green and blue checkered cloak embroidered with my crest- and my father was dead. He signed his letters of abdication that same day, and then was murdered on the roads outside of Karosgrad. All shows must go on, and well, I refused to have the first thing I do as Duchess be canceling events and ongoings. And so I walked down the aisle, clad in white but soul laden with coal, for the first act of the rest of my life. Things calmed down for a little while. If you can count having my first son, and then triplets calm. I do not. I took time off from proper duties as Duchess, giving them to Conrad for a time. I never wanted to be a mother, even now as I hold my four children in my arms or put them down for a nap, I feel a fraud. I am unfit for every duty that has been passed to me. I am unfit to rule. I am unfit to lead. I am unfit to have a family. I am unfit. I am a mouse scurrying around in another person's keep, but here I must live. From here on out, there would only be planned chapter titles and brief notes. PART FOUR: TO MAKE MY OWN How I appreciate those that have stood beside me. This was the worst handwriting by far, as if she could barely see what she was doing. Throughout my life I suffered. I was struck with immeasurable guilt and grief time after time like waves raging against the walls of a seaside keep, and yet I remained. Friends and close family slowly patched the holes that the sea dug into, but no one can repair it fully. To those that find my memoirs, I am sorry that I did not complete them, but I can not truly see what I am writing anymore. My mind and sight has been deteriorating, and I have hid it. Coward. Perhaps I was scared of the history books, or my past has left its mark on my mind to believe that I must never bow to weakness. Perhaps I refuse to be forced to rust- Barclay words damn that fate. To lay it bare, I have lived the life of an honorable liar. Told myself it was all for the best. “Just keep walking, Johanna, it will be over.” I hope that I did justice for those that left their destinies to me. Now I shall forsake what I have been given, and I shall walk into battle with the intent of death. This was a choice not a tragedy. The Memoirs ended there. Johanna walked out from the city long before the siege, in nondescript armor or personalized weapons; all that had been left within her cabin to be claimed by family and friends after her death was discovered. She sat within the watchtower to the North of Karosgrad as she awaited the approach. As the Inferi approached, she pulled back her bow and shot into their ranks. Johanna’s attempts would do little to aid the Haeseni forces, but the blind were never known to be good shots. As the walls began to come down, and the watchtower began to shutter beneath her feet, Johanna would look up towards the sky one last time. As she was knocked from the watchtower, her arms outstretched beside her as she fell backwards, her one-eyed, blotted out vision would clear. As she impacted with the ground, the Lady Palatine of Hanseti-Ruska would die, with two eyes open towards the sky and her mouth twirled into a soft, peaceful grin. Johanna died as she wished she had lived, on her own terms. REFORMS TO THE OFFICE OF THE PALATINE Issued by the LADY PALATINE On this 10th of Wzuvar and Byvca, 447 E.S. Since taking upon myself the office of the Palatinate, I have come to the realization that the Office of the Palatine has been plagued with inefficiencies. It has become a labyrinth which has hindered rather than helped the Palatine in their duties, full of nebulous positions that require constant micromanagement to remain functional. With this realization, the Office of the Palatine shall henceforth dissolve the position of Kommissar and cease taking wards. These opportunities may arise again in the future under a new paradigm, but it is necessary for the sake of efficiency to commence a restructuring. Therefore, the new framework Office shall be rooted in four main positions, with the possibility of scribes and other assistance being employed by these officials. Secretary of the Palatine - Arthur Stafyr The position of the most trusted assistant to the Palatine, their job is to assist them throughout the proceedings of their day to day work. They are to handle the drafting of missives, prolomations, edicts, letters, and other varieties of official documentation at the Palatine’s behest. Additionally, the Secretary to the Palatine is also to assist in organizing other members of the office to the best of their ability. Head Archivist - Iosif Basrid The Head Archivist is tasked with maintaining ledgers and anthologies of official documentation. This ensures that the missives, proclamation, edicts, and letters of the Crown are properly organized for ease of future reference by the Aulic Council. They are also to write new missives in order to document historical matters. Deputy Kommissar - Sebastien Asford de Savoie The Deputy Kommissar shall be assigned to oversee and execute specific projects within the Office of the Palatine. Once given their projects, it’s expected that they can execute them mostly independently. Currently the project of the Deputy Kommissar is mainly to organize and produce a regular Palatinial Post in order to better communicate the ongoings of the government and Kingdom. Head Palatinial Guard - Felix Weiss The head Palatinial guard will lead any guards chosen by the Palatine. The Head Guard will receive a metal brooch and tassel to signify their position and ability to represent the Palatine on projects they are sent to. They may be tasked to lead investigations on the behest of the Palatine, lead small scouting missions, and accompany the Palatine personally to more secretive matters. The Head Palatinial Guard takes charge during matters they are sent to by the Palatine, though outside of these duties return to the hierarchy of their regular rank within the Brotherhood. Palatinial Guard Palatinial Guards are a select few members of the Brotherhood of Saint Karl chosen by the Palatine to accompany them on official business, and undertake errands and investigations for the Palatine. This was a mantle I never asked for, dreamed of, or yearned to hold, and yet it is what I was given. An hour before I was wed to my husband, my father, the Duke of Reinmar, was murdered by road bandits, and I walked down the aisle as the Duchess of Reinmar. It has been twenty-two years since my brother's death, and eighteen since the birth of my son. Upon Konstanz’ death, I swore that I would hold my position until I had raised an heir to take up the house. I have completed my promise, and I hereby pass on all titles that I hold relating to the House of Barclay to my son and heir, Wilheim Konstanz Barclay, Duke of Reinmar. Alongside this, I will also be abdicating my position as Lady Vandalore and Margravine of Vanderfell. The title of Vanderfell shall return to the Waldenic Diet until they should be called upon by the Diet to decide who among them shall lead them into the future as Vandalore. The only position I shall continue to hold from this moment on is Lady Palatine as it is the only position that I hold that wasn’t thrust into my life by death. The forest became an ever growing labyrinth the more steps she took. She had been in this cursed, dark forest for years. Trying her best to navigate an impossible situation. But Johanna was not in a forest, a sticky mist did not cover her feet, and there was no winding labyrinth holding her, she was free in all technicality. This cursed landscape only ever existed in Johanna’s mind. The trees were her brother, slain by a crow drake at 24, thrusting upon her the looming responsibility of heir to the house. The mist was her father, who was murdered by bandits on the road the day she was married, passing onto her a never ending fog of responsibilities. The Labyrinth was her mother, who died in someone else's keep and with a funeral she was not invited to, leaving her to wander lost for years. For twenty-two years the life Johanna led was one she didn’t see as her own. The Duchess didn’t view herself as such, in her own mind she had been a placeholder. The bridge between her brother and her son. The little girl had dreamed of being an architect, an artist, a politician, an adventurer, every day until she was twenty four years old - and tragedy had ripped it from her hands. Forced instead into leadership and responsibility. Taking the Oath of Macken, leading her family, and making decisions she had never asked for. For nearly half of her life was spent not as her own, but as a stand-in for a brother that had been born for the position, and then a son born to release her from it. As Johanna woke up on Wilheim’s 18th birthday, she sat at her desk in Reinmar and signed her name for the final time as the Duchess of Reinmar. She entered into the great hall and handed the papers to couriers to carry out, and then she walked away.

It is a system with the potential for flaws, but it is also a system that might grant hope to those families that are striving for the lowest rank of permanent nobility. If a family does not deserve a place among the ranks of our peers under this edict, such shall be swiftly remedied. However, Haense has made a great mistake that has seen us slowly bleed ambitious families under the looming difficulty of taking that first step into our nobility. Often, many of our potential houses have not been afforded a barony until their patriarch are entirely worn out and the members of their household have given up the pursuit of such. If they have even achieved it, it can then be difficult to pick up the pieces of motivation to continue the struggle to keep hold of or raise their nobility. The goal of the New Lords Edict is to give these promising families a chance to prove that they are worthy. After all, a page cannot become a knight if they are not first accepted as a squire. The Nauherzen shall not be any family or person that comes to the Crown saying they want it, achieving that rank take some work and merit of its own. We, as humans, and citizens of Hanseti-Ruska, hold one duty above all others. The duty to try. Connections may be made between those of other nations and every mistake that we have ever made. But simply suggesting a connection between Baronets and Nauherzen does not doom this experiment to failure. Its success or failure shall depend on the steps we take next. The Petitions The Duties of the Princes and Princess With such a vast distance between the mainland of Haense, and the Silver Isle, it is the will of the crown to grant the duty of ‘Warden of the East’ to his two younger sons, Prince Marius and Prince Nikolas. This duty has been granted upon the younger’s 16th birthday, to further utilize the Prince’s skills. Alongside this, after the completion of trials given by His Majesty to his daughter, Princess Analiesa has been granted the title of Princess Royal. Protector of the Highlanders After the declaration made to Krugmar, His Majesty posed a question to those present. Why do we share the title Protector of the Highlanders with the Norlandic, when they cannot protect themselves? This question caused a great stir among the crowd, with many standing and shouting their opinions. As the chaos continued, there were many opinions on the matter; “we’ve always protected them, why should we share it?” “Hasn’t Norland been a long time ally?” “Perhaps we should wait to press this issue until Krugmar is dealt with?” There was no chosen result to the chaotic discussion, though it is clear that the main Haeseni voice was shouting for the title to no longer be split between the two nations. Musin’s Attack A Norlander sympathizer by the name of Waffles disagreed with His Majesty’s rightful questioning of the title of “Defender of the Highlanders” and became disruptive of His royal Majesty’s court proceedings. Upon causing a verbal disruption and acting with no decorum whatsoever, it was ordered that the Musin be removed from the court. The Musin - showing his true colors - did not, and brandished a crude explosive, threatening the lives of not only His Majesty’s soldiers but all bystanders in the chamber. Thankfully, His Majesty’s Brotherhood managed to not only dispatch the assailant, but also shield the Royal Family and all bystanders from the blast with the only casualty being that of the foul creature who dared to harm His Majesty and his subjects. The Petitions As petitions began, Valyris Wynasul came from Celia’nor, to discuss a suggestion with His Majesty for the possible war of Krugmar. The offer of attacking Krugmar from the lands of Celia’nor instead of building a fort upon their lands shall be discussed by the two nations in the future, should war be the result of the situation. Afterwards, the Grand Prince of Kusoraev, hearing of the recent resignation of the Lord Speaker, Maric Baruch, requested that he be considered for the position temporarily. He asked for this consideration so that he may better learn of the institution he would one day be inheriting as King, and be closer to his future peers. For generations there has been a vast split between many of the independent institutions of Haense; vastly important positions standing alone and unsupported or underappreciated. It is the will of the Lady Palatine to bridge the gap between these lone standing institutions and better bolster their longevity and success. A council is to be formed of the heads of each institution to gather at the request of the Palatine, Grand Maer or the call of necessity, to discuss and ensure the wellbeing of the jurisdiction of each member. The Tourney of Rozenfeld It is with pleasure that House Barclay is announcing the completion of the Village of Rozenfeld within the Duchy of Reinmar. With the village finished, they shall be hosting a horse-themed tournament to properly open Rozenfeld. It is the hope of the Duchy that they shall find some of the current best horsemen of the nation. After the events, there shall be a feast hosted around the village where people may wander and see the new construction. Joust - 300 Mina Prize The first event shall be the joust at the tourney grounds of Rozenfeld, beneath oak trees and in the shadow of the Wilheburg Castle. Horses for this shall be provided if necessary, but participants are welcome to bring their own. Race - 300 A race around the Kingdom of Haense, starting and ending at the docks of Rozenfeld. Duchess Isabel Baruch has been the Lady Palatine of Hanseti-Ruska for longer than my own children have been alive, there are many faces within our Kingdom that have known no Palatine but Isabel Baruch. She and I had strangely mirrored positions; both the first matriarchs of our houses, but we walked entirely different paths. Now, we’ve reached a crossing point where we switch places. ON HAESENI NOBILITY 5th of Jula and Piov, 441 ES NOBILITY IS THE BACKBONE OF HAESENI SOCIETY, it has been the work of nobles over generations that has built up Haense to what it finds itself as today. Each noble family has provided Haense with a unique section to add to its Kingdom and history. However, with noble titles comes honour, respect, and authority that must be balanced and held carefully, and each has their own expectations for how they must hold this responsibility. The Ranks of Nobility Duchy The highest achievable rank within Hanseti-Ruska for a noble house, the ducal families are longstanding backbones for the Kingdom to rely on. These families have been working for Haense and its interests for generations. Upon their lands they’ve each built castles to house large families and to defend the Kingdom from, surrounding themselves with holdings of small villages to best utilise their land with tenants, house guards and farmers. Expectations of a Ducal Family They act independently and succinctly for the Kingdom, not needing to be told to take action. Ducal families sometimes specialise in one or two aspects of service to the Kingdom, but often branch out to assist and serve in any aspect available, whether it be political, militaristic, or independent projects. Others have no specialisation, and members of the ducal family can be found serving in every aspect of the Kingdom. Each ducal family upholds and continues to develop their cultures, have been involved within the Church of Canon and actively practise canonism. The loyalty of ducal peers is unquestionable, and proven by long history and precedent. March Holding the same ranking within the Kingdom as Counties, the march family differs in one regard; location and risk. A march is granted to counties holding land on the border of the Kingdom that are expected to defend and hold the border. A march should not be expected by all counties finding themselves on the edge of the Kingdom as it may be granted on a basis of risk, if they are landed on a peaceful or uncontested border there would be little to defend against. Expectations of a Margrave Family Margrave families are expected to erect and hold a defendable castle, unlike the keeps of regular counties. They upkeep supplies and defences to be at the ready for any attacks coming from the border they hold. The margrave families come with the risk of needing to stand and defend the Kingdom from incoming attacks, even if they must stand alone until assistance can arrive. County The second highest achievable rank within Hanseti-Ruska, comital families are reliable and longstanding. Their achievements and impact within the Kingdom are notable and varying. Their families have built up keeps to house their family, and have begun to surround their lands with some tenants and farmers, and may have begun to or already employ house guards to defend their keep. Expectations of a Comital Family Comital families have been working for the Kingdom for multiple generations, and act independently. Their members can be noticed in multiple institutions, their works have helped shape the recent Haense and continue to do so. Comital houses will take action without push, and speak up to better Haense without prompting. They might have some involvement in the Church of Canon and can be seen actively practising canonism. Their loyalty to the Kingdom has been proven for generations, and they actively participate in bettering Haense. Viscounty A viscomital family is the first promotion since gaining nobility, and have now proven themselves to be dedicated to the Kingdom long term. They’ve shown continuous effort in contributing to Haense, and have more plans in that direction. They’ve been comfortable in their estate for some time now, and may have been given a bit more space for expansion as necessary while they grow. Expectations of a Vicomital Family A viscomital family is generally working on developing their own traditions and family values. They may begin publishing works of history on how they have gotten to this point, and the roots from which they’ve come. Their ties within the Kingdom have begun to strengthen, and they may begin to work in unison with other houses on joint projects. Viscomital families have much promise and many routes to explore, and are feeling out where in the Kingdom they fit or if they chose to branch out into every aspect and to not choose a niche. Baron The lowest rank of nobility, a baronial family is an upcoming family with great promise working towards bettering themselves and the Kingdom, or a family fighting to remain nobility after insufficient contributions in recent times. As an upcoming family, they have recently shown great promise within the last generation or two. They’ve shown promise within at least an institution or two within Haense, and continue to grow. The rank of a baronial family is one of bated breath, being raised to a baronial family shows that the Kingdom is watching their next moves, to see what they will do further with the promise they have shown. Expectations of a Baronial Family Baronial families are getting involved where they can and are full of promise. They take initiative to join institutions and projects to contribute in any way they can. Those new to nobility should be keeping a respectable air about themselves, avoid sullying their relatively new reputation, and be seen as well mannered canonist members of the nation. Expectations of Nobles The Responsibilities of a Peer A noble peer of Hanseti-Ruska has numerous responsibilities and expectations on their shoulders outside of simply being the patriarch to their family. They owe their direct allegiance to the Koeng of Haense, and are expected to lead their families in such a way that brings honour and respect to the Kingdom, encouraging their families to actively participate within the army and protection of the Kingdom. They hold a seat on the Royal Duma, and are expected to actively participate, or be sure that there is a proper representative to take their place should it be necessary. They are to be knowledgeable on the law of the Kingdom to be able to fulfil their duty of upholding and judging the law on their own land holdings in case of banditry or crime happens under their watch. Peers are to be well educated and well articulated to better the Kingdom and uphold the honour of both their house and their Kingdom. The Responsibilities of a Noble While a regular member of a noble family is not bound by a direct oath to the Koeng, there are still certain expectations that come with being a part of a noble family; the higher the rank, the stricter the expectations. In general, nobles are expected to uphold the highest level of respect and decency. They should be up to date on current etiquette expectations, and the law to be sure to remain well within it. Each noble should be sure to attend regular church gatherings and keep up with the recent revelations and Golden Bulls from the Pontiff to be sure to remain a well-educated canonist. The main responsibilities of a nobles have two goals, to support their family, and the Kingdom they serve. Nobility should be active within institutions of the Kingdom, and show great interest in the improvement of such. Anything from joining the Brotherhood of St. Karl, working within a government office, or running their own independent business, a noble's mind should rarely be idle and complacent. A noble of Hanseti-Ruska should always be respectful and respect worthy, active within the greater Kingdom, adhere well to canonism, and be ready to protect Haense when it is threatened. Noble Rank Evaluations Ways to Improve Noble Standing The way noble houses are evaluated has always been a contested topic. Each Koeng will rank houses in their own way and by different requirements. However, there are some general themes that each Koeng appears to look at that houses can use as a guide in the right direction. The simplest advice to these houses is to stay true to your roots and your families. However, there are more specific things that each house should consider when asking themselves what more they can do for the Kingdom. Commonly, houses that work independently without reminders from the Crown or government easily find success, and avoiding large periods of idle hands can give a noble house a good appearance. If a house often requires prompting from the Crown to act, they will be seen as less reliable and their dedication and commitment to the Kingdom may be questioned. Alongside this, it may be noticed how substantial a house's participation in the routine happenings of the Kingdom is; if they often show and participate in events like court, duma, and auxiliary brotherhood practices. Attendance is even more so noted at larger gatherings such as in emergencies to protect the Kingdom, coronations, and the Herzenvrest. Each house should consider recording and documenting aspects of their history. From assembling large historiographies, stories of ancestors, memoirs of house members, and differing accounts regarding the house. Keeping track of and updating the living history of a house can show understanding of the progress the house has made, and spread the unique story of each family. Alongside this, houses should consider actively practising and developing their chosen culture; working on documentation and participating in traditions, and fashions of said culture. Additionally, with Canonism being the sole religion, houses that are commonly seen participating within the church or attending its gatherings should be looked on favourably as well. Those looking for their next goals as a noble house should also begin looking to their neighbours, being able to work in tandem with other noble houses can show a level of maturity and brotherhood within Haense. If houses are able to collaborate to better Haense as a whole instead of working solely alone it can demonstrate a higher ability to unite and put aside familial or cultural differences. Similarly, a house that is willing to bring up issues and stand in front of the Crown or their peers to speak on them in a respectful and constructive manner also demonstrates a maturity and want to better the Kingdom without being pressed for their issues. Overall, there is no specific right way for a noble house to improve their rank. It is a collaboration of many to work on a multitude of issues and projects for both their house and Kingdom. Nobles can also never go wrong in speaking with the Crown directly regarding the direction they wish to take their house, and in which ways the Kingdom requires their assistance. THE REINMAREN RETINUE With the threats against the land of Reinmar, and recent development initiatives of Rozenfeld, it is the will of the Princess of Sutica to arm and maintain a retinue of house guards under the flag of Barclay. This retinue is to train within Wilheburg, to protect the lands of Reinmar and the village of Rozenfeld. The retinue owes its might to the Kingdom of Haense when the greater nation is in need, swearing to yield to the Brotherhood of Saint Karl during any operations the retinue joins in on. The House of Barclay has a long history of military leaders, officers, and advisors, and invites those outside of the House to join the retinue through the swearing of allegiance to protect the Duchy of Reinmar and Kingdom of Haense and through such will receive training, lodgings, honour, and victory under the House of Barclay. The retinue shall boast no hierarchy, being a group of tightnit individuals that listen to the orders of the head of Barclay. Those within the retinue can expect to receive proper training, lodgings, equipment, and activities. As well as to be treated with respect from the Duchy of Reimar as long as they are in service of the Duchy and when they retire from service. WALDENIAN UR An Ancient Game Resurfaced by House Barclay 343 E.S. Waldenian Ur, recently resurfacing as a game played often between the Duchess of Reinmar, and her cousins, is an old Waldenian board game played by two participants at a time. Described as a simpler and faster version of Haeseni Chess, Ur is a quick paced game of chance and strategy with elements of chaos, revenge, and some careful plotting. How to Play The Waldenian Ur board, made up of 3 rows of 8 tiles, is a relatively simple setup with only three main functions. The C shaped movement track, the ‘swirl’ tiles where you are safe, and get to roll again, and the division into the Green side, Blue side, and the middle comprising a ‘no mans land’ setup. First off, the shape of movement on a Waldenian Ur board is rather unconventional. Moving from the green piece, up, into the middle, all the way down, back to your side and then up into the red, without explanation it can appear rather confusing. You will never place your piece on either the red, or the green, as these are more of a placeholder for a piece that has yet to be in play, and the finishing line. The goal is to get your piece to the red, where you may then remove them from the board or stack them on the red if you so choose. In order to score your point, you must roll the exact number to get onto the red, if you roll something other than the exact number, you cannot move that piece. Within Waldenian Ur, you roll four special dice that can give you up to four, and may also result in a 0. 1 puts you on the first white spot in front of your green beginning, and so on. Ur does not allow you to stack pieces on top of eachother, and therefor with seven pieces in play, you must manage your pieces and real estate carefully, as if you do not have an open space available to move to with your roll, your turn will be skipped. [roll out of 5, 1-4 is normal, 5 counts as a 0, and you are unable to move.] The spiral pieces within the Waldenian Ur board allow you to roll your dice again, and move any of your pieces with said second roll. If you land on another spiral with your second roll, you get a third, and so on. The spiral in the middle of the board also doubles as a safe space where you may not get taken, and will count for the other player simply as a space they cannot move to. Once all seven of your pieces have made it from green to red, you will finish the game and win! Optionally, for an even quicker game of Ur, you may reduce the amount of pieces from seven to four, but it is to be noted that this smaller version will lack some of the chaos that makes Waldenian Ur what it is.
