Rethlor 0 Share Posted January 26, 2012 Out of character- Minecraft account name: Rethlor Did I attend Minecon and sign up at the LOTC booth? Sadly, I didn’t attend. How old am I: I am 18 years old Time zone/ country of residence: Central standard/Canada Do you have a good grip on the English language? I’d like to think so Small 2-3 sentence description of yourself: My names Mike, I enjoy playing sports, as well as listening to music and playing video games. I currently work a part time job with minimal shifts, so I have a lot of free time outside school, most of which I spend playing video games, or hanging out with friends. I think I’m a fairly social person, and easy to get along with. :) How much time could you be on the server weekly? I usually have about 3 or 4 hours of free time a day when I’m working, and up to 7 when I’m not, most of which I spend playing games or studying, so I have a fair amount of time to play on the server. What do you know about roleplaying? Give a definition of what it means to you. I know quite a bit about roleplaying, and have played some other RP only servers,I’ve been playing rpg’s most of my life as well, and although not exactly RP, its similar. To me RP is about immersion. You have to really get to know the character you’re playing, his attitude, characteristics, and quirks to get the full effect. If you don’t immerse yourself in the world and what’s happening around you it isn’t RP, it’s just a video game. You have to act AS the character, and respond the way your character would, not how you yourself would. In your own words, describe what metagaming and Powergaming are. Metagaing is when you personally know whats going on when your character doesn’t. Like seeing something walks up behind you in third person and reacting, when your character would have no idea anything was behind them.(essentially reacting IC to something only known OOC)Or hearing about something out of gameplay, like a friend telling you something, and heading straight for that something. Powergaming is like being overpowered. It’s when one player has an unfair advantage over another, usually unearned and exploited, and it causes the game to stop being fun, as both parties aren't on equal ground. An example would be a single 'player' kills a group of 5 other enemies, when this is highly unrealistic What do you expect this server to be like? I’m not sure, but I’m hoping for the best, I’ve never played on such an expansive server before. I’m hoping for friendly helpful people, active players, and people who actually care about RP, not jumping in and out of character nonchalantly. I understand if theres something serious and you need to convey it quickly, and speaking in character wouldn’t work, but try as much as you can. What other server(s) have you played on and why did you leave them? I’ve played on too many to count, most of which have an immature (not young, I don’t care how old someone is, but immature) make up of players which really ruins the experience of RPing. I’ve played on many non RP servers as well, which was much worse, I was even threatened to be banned from one by a mod for RPing. Have you read, understood, and agreed with the rules and regulations? I have How did you hear about us? I actually saw a YouTube video about it, and thought it looked amazing Have you voted for LOTC on minestatus? I actually hadn’t voted for any servers on minestatus until I saw this question, so I quickly went over there and voted for this server ;) I am number 899 What is your lord of the craft forum account name? Rethlor Other info: I had originally applied to join as an orc, but was denied and was told I should read up more on the lore, to have a better application. In my readings, I found that I really liked the elven lore, as well as how to go about playing an elf, so I decided that it suited me much more than an orc, and switched. In character- Character name: Rethlor Race: Elf Sub-race: High elf Bio: Rethlor is a very young by elven standards ( a mere 18 years old). He lived in the city of Elandriel with his parents. His father was a humble hunter, and his mother a merchant. They would make their living through his mother, who would sell the meat and skin of the game his father hunted. It was a good life, and it lasted until rethlor had reached the age of 10. It was in the winter of that year when his mother was afflicted with the Grish. The moment she was diagnosed, she was bedridden. This was caused by the vertigo it was causing, as well as the hallucinations. Rethlor and his father cared for her as best they could, but eventually she succumbed to the sickness. With the death of his mother, rethlor and his father could not earn enough minas to make a living, so they left the city behind. Deep in the forest they built a small Cabin, this would be their home for the years to come. They survived by foraging and hunting. Rethlor’s father taught him how to hunt with a bow, as well as skin and clean a carcass. As the years passed Rethlor became more skilled with a bow, and was well learned in the anatomy of living things, knowing where a cut can do the most damage. Despite this, what rethlor really wanted to learn was magic. Ever since he was a little boy he wanted to learn it. He was encapsulated by the druids and mages he had seen in Elandriel. When he had reached the age of 17 he was quite good at hunting, and often hunted separate from his father to double the amount of ground they could cover. He had returned from a successful hunt late one evening. Dragging a large doe through the brush near his house, he noticed that there was no smoke above the tree line. It had become habit that his father would return home early and start a fire while he awaited rethlor’s return. He arrived at the cabin, but his father was nowhere to be found. Rethlor Skinned and gutted the doe while he awaited his father. It was getting late now, and he had seen no sign of his father, but it was too dark to go out to look for him now, it would have to wait unti morning. The next morning he set out, tracking his father. After a few hours, rethlor discovered his father’s body, bloodied and mangled, with what looked like bear-sized scratches everywhere on his body. He noticed that his quiver had only a few arrows left, and a blood trail led away from the scene. Rethlor gathered his father’s bow and arrows, and set out to hunt the bear. He found it a short distance away, still bleeding, barely clinging on to life. It was riddled with arrows. Rethlor immediately lost his vengefulness, and took pity on the creature. It was merely instinct that caused it to attack. It was beyond help now, and would shortly die. Rethlor gathered a few herbs that would reduce its pain, and squeezed their juices on the bears wounds. It’s eyes were glazed, and it barely noticed him. He unsheathed his knife and put the great beast out of its misery. He buried his father next to his mother, just on the outskirts of Elandriel, on a hill in a small clearing. He could not go on living in the small cottage, the memories would haunt him, so he returned just to gather his things and set out, looking for someone , whether it be druid or mage, or anything in between, to teach him the ways of magic. Appearance: Rethlor is an elf of average height. He has brown eyes, which is rare for an elf. He wears a green hooded cloak, as well as a mask that covers the lower half of his face. He wears green clothes to help blend in to his environment when hunting, but will adorn mage robes should he be presented the opportunity to learn magic. Characteristics: Rethlor is kind, willing to help any innocent he comes across. He has a strong will and will put up a fight to then end. He doesn’t care for eating vegetables, but will do so to survive. Ambitions: Rethlor wants more than anything to become a mage (OOC: I read that a new magic system will be implemented soon, great timing :D). He also wants to help rid the world of the undead. Out in the wilds, your character comes across a small cottage. Outside, there appears to be and elf struggling in combat with two bandits. What does your character do? Rethlor knocks and arrow and steadies his bow. He walks out from the trees aiming at the bandits. He shouts for them to back away from his kin, less they taste the cold flint of his arrow. (OOC: I hope you make arrows out of flint on this server, or my joke will die in the water) . The bandits back away, not sure which of them the arrow is pointed at. He tells them to leave before he fetches the guards, or kills them, a decision the bandits would make based on how they react. The bandits turned and fled, occasional glancing behind to see rethlors’ bow still pointed at them. Your character walks up to a shop in a quiet market. “Hello my good sir” says the shopkeeper “how may I help you today”. How does your character respond? Rethlor smiles and says “good day, shopkeeper, might you have any bow strings in stock, my last one broke while hunting yesterday, and my game escaped me!” The shopkeeper chuckles, and says “we can’t have that happen again, can we? I’ll show you some of my strongest and most flexible strings, and just for you, I’ll throw one in for free!” Rethlor thanks the shopkeeper and leaves the store, bowstrings in hand. Thank you for taking the time to read my application, I look forward to any feedback you can give, both positive and negative, I’m always open to suggestions as to how I can improve it. Thanks again :) I'm currently having a problem with posting my image, so i will post the link of where i got the skin. (i have made a few changes, but they are minute, so it looks almost entirely the same) http://www.minecraftskins.com/skin/15639/ranger-of-the-woods/
Nero 347 Share Posted January 26, 2012 Accepted. I really hope that you don't base your character on the names stated in your application strongly though since they are not real places, yet. Also, it is arguable that there are 'bears' in Asulon, but it still isn't proved, nonetheless you appear to have great ability to role play. Please be patient while a GM promotes you in-game, it may take a few hours to a days.
