  1. The Grass is Greener Issued and averred by the office of, Hugh le Gras, Former Imperial Treasurer 4th of Horen’s Calling, 653 AA -=- It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of former Imperial Treasurer, Hugh le Gras, who died peacefully at his home last night at the age of seventy-five. Hugh was born in Lougras on the 2nd of Sun’s Smile, 578 AA to Herbert and Matilda le Gras, owners of the Le Gras Hay Company. He spent his formative years apprenticing under John de Unpeesi, a notable Illatian grain merchant in Whitespire. Upon his return to the family business, in 596 AA, Hugh introduced the famous “Red Band of Quality,” which now binds all le Grasian hay bales and has become a gold standard for heartlandic hay quality. Within three years of his financial innovations at his family’s business, in 599 AA, at the age of twenty-one, Hugh le Gras was appointed as Royal Treasurer for the Kingdom of Burgundy. Upon the establishment of the Empire of Man in 603 AA, he was elevated to the title of Imperial Treasurer, a position he held for fifty-four years. Hugh pioneered imperial heraldry, founding the Imperial College of Arms in 614 AA and serving as Imperial Chief Herald until 649 AA. His firstborn son, Guy le Gras, was then elected to the role in 650 AA. His wife, Agathe, predeceased Hugh two years ago. Le Gras is survived by his children: Emma, Alice, Guy, Herbert, and Walter. He also leaves behind 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. ✠ The Night Before ✠ The clunk of keys echoed through the clerk’s office as an elderly man pulled another set from his pocket. Once more, a thud. And then a sigh. “That should be all of them,” Hugh said in a pained voice. Timothee, the clerk, counted the keys aloud, “Forty-nine, fifty, fifty-one…” As he droned on, Hugh’s gaze wandered to the paintings of Tiberias and Hadrian. He remembered sitting in an office like this, decades ago, begging for a chance to serve the empire. They had given him that, but did they regret it? "Sixty-eight." The counting stopped, breaking Hugh’s thoughts. The clerk nodded, confirming the count, and said, "They are all here, sir. It has been a pleasure." He then gestured toward the exit. Hugh pushed open the heavy door, his arm straining. Muscles aching, he gripped the stair railing and spiraled upward, recalling that trips down to the dark vaults always seemed easier. He cursed the climb. Many moments later, he emerged to the moon’s glow seeping into the bank. He smiled, “Agathe always loved the moon,” he said to the bustling room paying him little mind. He stopped to admire a stack of newly minted coins, bearing another emperor’s face on each. Three emperors he had served, if only there was time to serve a fourth. Rittersberg was quiet, with only the sounds of two children at play ringing through the night’s calm. Hugh smiled in passing. Emma and Alice used to play like that. His heart broke a bit as he moved along. The hinges on his house door screamed as he struggled to open it. Inside, he hung his hat next to the one his father had given him, the one with the plume. The house was empty. Many years ago, there had been a family here: children, a wife, and grandchildren. Hugh slumped at the only table in the barren parlor and poured a glass of liquor. The heavy glass made his arm ache. Old age will do that. After a few sips, he took her portrait from his pocket. There was a woman he had loved, and a woman he had lost. Hugh propped his wife’s miniature against a book from a Petrine bureaucrat. He smiled, turning to his papers. Though retired, he meant to help his son with the family’s accounts. He circled some frivolous expenses to cut later, then squinted. The numbers were fuzzed, more than usual. His head lightened; he tried to stand, but couldn't. He stumbled and fell to the floor. His arm pounded with pain, and the weight of the world pressed on his chest. Walter found him in the morning, ink staining his hand. Under his arm, a mostly smudged message. Except for the ending, “I did my duty.”

IMPERIAL DECREE On Idle and Unlanded Lords Proclaimed and Decreed by His Imperial Majesty, Tiberias I, Emperor of Man 19th of Harren’s Folly, 623 AA ✠ HEED, ALL LEAL SONS OF HOREN ✠ Like a peach grove in the summer, Our lords need pruning. For far too long has the noble tree of Our Empire become crowded by dead branches that work only to take up space, akin to titles left vacant and unused in the support of the Empire. The Lord God tells Us in the Scroll of Virtue (4:8) “you shall not be idle, nor forget your duties in favor of sloth.” And so it has been determined by the Imperial Crown that some lords have forsaken their oaths and grown lethargic. Even so, some lords intend to hold no lands in Our empire’s name, and so their letters once issued are now defunct and declared so by this decree. Let this be a plain reminder onto Our vassal Lords, that a faithful servant does not rest while their lord toils. -=- Forfeited Titles By Imperial Decree, under the Emperor’s writ, the following titles are to be placed into abeyance. ✠ The Count of San Adriano - Abeyance ✠ The Baron of Valles - Abeyance ✠ The Baron of Treuberg - Abeyance ✠ The Baron of Basarab - Abeyance AVE IMPERIUM H V M A N I T A S I N V I C T A HIS IMPERIAL MAJESTY, Tiberias I of the House Horen, by the Grace of GOD, Emperor of Man, Holy Imperator, King of Burgundy, Seventis, Salvus, Renatus & Oren, Duke of Middelan, Helena, Lorraine, Sunholdt and Reutov, Protector of Grense, Protector of the Heartlanders, Patriarch of House Horen & the Tiberian Dynasty, Captain-General of the Church, Defender of the Faith. (Respond to this Post) Demographic Name of business: Owner of business: Years operating: Do you own a storefront? If so, where is it located?: Do you own a stall? If so, where is it located?: Do you own multiple stalls?: Do you own stalls outside of the Empire of Man?: Do you reside in the Empire of Man? If so, provide your address?: Are you, or were you ever, a member of the Imperial Guard?: Business Details What does your business provide?: How is this different from other shops?: Do you have other employees?: Your Lift Pitch Provide the Treasury with a short pitch about why we should choose to aid your business?: -=- Criteria Imperialness Imperialness is defined in two parts. First, it indicates that the applicant is a devout imperial who lives in the empire, owing his loyalty to the Crown. Those from beyond the Empire of Man or those who have questioned loyalties are not eligible for the awards of this commission. Second, this implies a fidelity to the Church and the values it represents. Businesses who exclusively tailor to debauchery or uncouth practices will be heavily weighted against, if not ineligible. Veterans or active-duty members of the guard, in good standing, are considered with extra weighting. Novelty There are plenty of businesses. This program is meant to find unique businesses that are not just another tavern or bread vendor. We are looking for businesses that tailor to interests, not those who pander to general interests and sell things like basic food, minerals, and saddles. Think outside the box and come up with ideas that could attract citizens numbed by the average merchant cart. Profitability Part of doing business is making a profit. While the Imperial Treasury takes no portion of the profits from award-winners, it does look to see if a business is financially viable before awarding a prize. Long stints of inactivity from a merchant can leave a business ruined, and will be factored into account.
  20. Mission Statement As Established by Imperial Writ At the behest of His Imperial Majesty, Tiberias I, Emperor of Man, the writ has been issued to hereby reestablish the Imperial College of Arms, which shall standardize arms, tinctures, and other heraldic needs within the Imperial realm and provide these services to all leal subjects of the realm to complete this objective. As it was always, the Imperial College shall live by their motto: “Order in Presentation, Grandeur in Arms.” However, the College has insisted that their services be provided to all men throughout the world and shall create, record, and publish arms from all peoples. If you require our services, please follow the instructions below to be placed in the queue. Our Master Heralds shall service you when time allows for it, but please understand the guidelines by which all arms are to be made. The College’s Guidelines Rules Which We Shall Not Break Guiding Principale In the past, many heralds have been strict on the rules of tincture, divisions, and attitudes. The College believes that the best heraldry is made by seeing what is visibly appealing and to the holder’s satisfaction. We will do our best to compromise any arbitrary ‘rules’ that were created, so long as the resulting arms are easily identifiable at distance and do not stray from the subsequent guidelines below. Tincture The College has adopted the tincture palette used by Hugh le Gras in his creation of the Map of the Empire, which included dozens of arms representing nobles and places within the Empire of Man near its creation. We will very rarely deviate from this palette unless there is significant historical reason for the color variation or the heralds determine that the color variation would allow for easier visibility. No Text There are almost no cases where putting text on arms makes them more easily understood or less cluttered. As a result, writing from almost all arms will be stripped. Instead, requestors should think of what symbolizes the words they wish to portray, more than what words they want to slather all over good heraldry. Imperial Precedence Due to His Imperial Majesty’s continued patronage of the College, all requests received from within the Empire will take precedence over external inquiries. Additionally, all requests received from a member of the Imperial Family or Privy Council are to take precedence over all requests, per the agreement of our writ. Please be understanding of any delays. Overly Complex Heraldry is meant to be a practical art that can quickly be identified by an observer, most notably in the lists or on the battlefield. Requests that are deemed overly complex, involving the division of multiple arms, or are deemed unseemly to the eye due to confusion will not be fulfilled. Requesting the Creation of Your Arms We Offer this Service for Free Send a bird to Hugh le Gras, First Herald of the Imperial College of Arms (On Discord: CharmingCavalier), with the following information: Family Name: Title (if any): Current Title Holder: Description of Requested Arms: Reference Art (if any): As always, the College reserves the right to deny any request or forestall a request until their questions or concerns are satisfied. Please be patient with the heralds. Understand this is a service offered freely to better increase the visual appeal of the realms and record unique symbols of culture. 24. Week 8 We are almost halfway through the second season of the ABA! This Week 8 broadcast on your crystal balls is brought to you by Potionade! "It's What Plants Crave!" Interested in checking out the stats for the ABA or keeping track of your favorite players? Check out our public stat and player rating on the bulletin board behind the sausage stand (Stat Sheet). The Stars, Valiants, and Kenshis are all still searching for head coaches! If that interests you, walk over to Commissioner Dern Stavid (ping CharmingCavalier) and say “I want to be a HEAD COACH!” Here are the directions to the corporate office: (Discord Link). Live results are posted daily, as opposed to these bulletins only being posted every seven days. Now, who is ready for… HIGHLIGHTS! The Blackvale Hounds beat out the Marlins, for the most part, due to the help of Timberus van Rimwik - who scored 32 points. While Jacques Finsinger tried to keep the Hounds contained, his 14 blocks were just not enough to push them over the edge. The Hounds remain the dominant force in the Crown League. It will be very interesting to see how they hold up against the Berserkers in Week 15 and the Greenskins in Week 17. Could give us some insight into a future championship meetup. Quickly rising up the ladder of defenders this year is the Hammer’s Karaag'ul the Golem. This game against the Druids this beast of nature brought in 21 blocks and is now third in the ABA for the season. A steady 18 points paired with a stat like that make Karaag’ul on the radar for Defensive Player of the year. Other teams may be circling in the offseason to trade for the golem or perhaps draft their own? Our final highlight for this week is the entire game of the Greenskins and the Kenshis. The Greenskins managed to hold on to their position tied with the Berserkers at the top of the Free League by two points this week. The Kenshis dominated in the field and if it wasn’t for a poor showing from Blade Yoshida, the ABA leader in points scored, there is a real chance the Greenskins would’ve been supplanted at the top. However, excellent blocking and power in the arch remains a highly desirable attribute in this season. STANDINGS

Walk over to Commissioner Dern Stavid (ping CharmingCavalier) and say “I want to be a HEAD COACH!” Here are the directions to the corporate office: (DISCORD LINK). Stop over today and get to see the Week 2 results soon! These public notices will only be shown during the regular season once every seven weeks. You can never get enough bucketball! Now, who is ready for… HIGHLIGHTS! Let’s give it up to Shaquille O’Steel on the Kal’Kladian Hammers for an amazing 38 point game against the Greenskins. Did his team win? No. Was it amazing to watch him do it? Absolutely! We hope to see more from him in the coming weeks. I think we should pull the bus aside and talk about Willem Bricklant off the Blackvale Hounds. I mean wow, what an amazing performance against the Holsord Mootgoers. 32 Points, 100% accuracy - every shot he took went in - all 15?! Then back that up with 13 blocks on his record, in a single game?! If you ask me, some people are sleeping on this guy. He might be slow on his feet, but wow does he pack a punch from the field! On the opposite side of that, let's talk about the Mootgoers. They have some of the most loyal fans, but wow their team did not perform tonight. Halbert Pocke III put up 6 points and Reinhardt von Slippen put up a measly 2! Erich von Passenfreude tried to keep the team afloat with 35 points, tied for second in the ABA this week, but just couldn’t make up for his team missing the mark. If you ask me, the Mootgoers need a new head coach that can whip Pocke into shape. After all the guy is just a legacy player on the team - his grandfather was a legend in Folkball. Maybe athleticism skipped a generation or two? Overall the Greenskins really dazzled out there, proving that sometimes the best way to win is to run the ball to the bucket and beat anyone who gets in your way. Not a single player finished with less than 20 points on their team - Snaga Dribbler clocking in a solid 35 points. We can only hope to see more in the coming weeks!
