Oh man… do you ever regret the sheer amount of time you put into staff work?

Nope, not one bit. If I somehow went back in time & was involved in LoTC from the earlier stages, I’d do it all again in a heartbeat. The only thing I regret is how I handled my... err, ‘me time’? Whenever I was free and did something other than LoTC I felt massively guilty about it, something I touched on in my going-away thread I believe. Towards the end I’d catch myself not logging in for a day or two... or sometimes I’d log in for only thirty minutes, do a few chores, then log off for another three days. It wasn’t so much me trying to keep up appearances of being a busy bee still but more that I felt so crushed. There was always work to be done and I had to log in and do it but there were other things demanding my attention... I wasn’t really paying the proper respect to my college workload,  I felt guilty & sick whenever I tried to enjoy a different game... it just wasn’t a healthy situation.

Roleplay really changed in 2.0. Things got more serious. My friend group splintered, either people moved on from the server, got banned, or were moving towards other roleplay groups so we didn’t get to interact much. That, alongside other issues 2.0 brought really killed things for me. I kind of stopped roleplaying altogether come 3.0, I really just treated the server as a 3D chat room. I’d sit in some cozy tavern in a city somewhere, enjoying the idle chatter and chatting on /ooc with friends whilst helping the occasional noob. I helped with the guide team, then GM, left, came back, GM, admin, left, back again... I think where I’m going with this is that for most people, they love the people here and their roleplay experience. I don’t really care about my own, personal roleplay. That kind of died back in early 2.0. But I found that I had the chance to nurture a fun roleplay experience for others. And that, I don’t regret a single moment. I met so many awesome people here, made so many strong friendships, and worked with a lot of cool (and some un-cool ?) people. Even though most of the time I’ve been here I’ve been doing work, or working to ensure others enjoyed RP as much as they would, I’ve still enjoyed almost every second of it. I think the way I always put it was- “I want others to enjoy the server as much as I enjoyed playing in 1.0/Aegis”. I have never enjoyed a game/gaming experience as much as I did then and I doubt I ever will again. It was just the perfect storm of adolescence, a fun new experience (minecraft multiplayer), roleplay, and a lot of cool people I met along the way.

What’s your favorite memory of me?

    Black Mirror yes or no?

Come back to staff yes or no?

I remember watching you build a lot... I probably did a lot of annoying stuff like shocking you with lightning and I can almost guarantee I locked you in an obsidian cube once or twice. That one is always funny.

IDK – I’ve heard lots of good stuff about it but I’m lazy with watching TV shows. Heard lots of good stuff though.

!_! Why are you people putting me to work... I think that if there’s any chance I stick around long term then I’d probably pursue some sort of staff position again, my above paragraph probably explaining why. Right now I’m kind of just running around & exploring the map whilst thinking about all the crazy stuff I’ve done on here over the years and all the friendships come and gone- who knows what I’ll do once I burn up nostalgia fumes lol. I definitely want to see the new map though, I’m very interested in seeing new dwarf cities.

What’s your favorite episode of Madeline (1993-)?

What is your favorite Magic the Gathering artwork(s) or card(s)?

Are you interested in roleplay on LotC still?

If you had to eat one culture’s food for the rest of your life, what would it be? (Ex: Italian = pizza, pasta, etc)

I really liked the show when I was younger, it had such a pretty art style and I love how french/french-english accent sounds. It may have influenced some choices later in life !_!

Rebecca Guay & Terese Nielsen are my two favorite all-time artists. Guay’s works are all beautiful. Modern day favorite art is probably Growth Spiral because it reminds me a lot of Guay’s work. Favorite actual card gameplay wise would be harder, but probably Jeskai Ascendancy. I’ve got a foil, artist-signed playset and they are the treasure of my collection.

Maybe. I’ll definitely poke around 7.0 a bit.

Humm... Maybe some sort of Asian food? I’d miss cheese though.

IKR lmao? I pop in for a visit and I’m already being put to work !_!

It’s impossible to narrow it down, I’ve had so many awesome/awful experiences over the years. I cherish almost all of my early time (early Aegis) in LoTC, I think about all those people & moments often. Really bittersweet nostalgia. If I had to pick something for best I’d probably just default to something like the Aegis battle of Galahar. I was thinking about that specifically last night and it blew my mind thinking about how that was quite literally 7~ish? years ago. I don’t really remember the specifics, I just know that I & a lot of people had fun. I guess that’s the best memory? You don’t really remember the details but you fondly remember how the whole event made you feel.

Worst moment would probably be having to ban people I really liked or cleaning up after people. People going PEACE I’M OUT then trying to harm the server/playerbase as much as possible on their way out was always a massive headache (and made me sad, especially if we were friends or acquaintances).

Anyways – what’s up and are you coming back to lotc?

I’ll probably poke around 7.0. Me checking back here was totally random but I guess I timed it right to see the new map go live.

I never forget the best of LotC… especially not an admin who was a total advocate of the people.

What are you most proud of accomplishing on LotC? What is your favourite RP encounter? And finally, will you come back to us soon? ?

Gosh there’s a lot I’m happy about doing... I was very proud to get GM status way back in like... holy crap, 2014? I’m guessing. You’ll probably remember how I was a total stubborn butt trying to force through things I thought the playerbase would like or need (namely freebuild ? ). I was always happy to put up a new announcement thread like “yo guys, you know that one feature/rule change/thing you’ve wanted implemented for weeks/months? OKAY HERE IT IS! GO WILD! I loved that feeling so much. Giving players what (I thought) they needed was such a great feeling. I’m not sure what I’m proudest of though, since most of my “work” was pestering different people into doing stuff... (sorry coders!)

As for favorite RP... again, I could go on for hours about all the best RP moments I’ve had but I’ll just give a cop out answer and go with early Aegis memories again. Those days after school where I’d rush home to see what was up with my friends are really some of my fondest memories.

There’s a high chance I’ll run around the new map but IDK how much I’ll be around. !_! If I stay too long I’ll probably get put to work again.

I’ve been out of the game too long to really know what’s what. I just hope it’s well received by the players and there’s lots of cool stuff to explore (and plenty of areas for players to build in ? )

  4. Additionally, access to a "fast travel" hub is also being offered to human nations. This is to provide fair and balanced access to all human nations to prevent one nation unfairly gaining an advantage and a larger share of the playerbase. This will likely be set-up in the near future via other administrators. You are not forced to have your nation a part of this fast travel hub but it is advised. The fast travels will lead from the hub to your capital city- it is not yet certain if we want the fast travels to be one way, or back-and-forth but with a longer cooldown/travel time.

The fast travel hub will be located right off of the Malin/Spawn Islands boat to Tahn. It will be a small, "NPC" village- it (likely) won't be used by players and will possibly house shops and for-sure house fast travels to the various human nations.

Also being offered is the chance to skip the fledgling nation trial process on account of your nation's history and longevity on this map. You will need to discuss this with @501warhead, however, as I will likely be unable to assist in this process.

  7. Hi there! The administration team met on Tuesday, 2/7, to discuss various odds and ends. A part of our meeting was dedicated to discussing nations and charters. I'm sure you'll be happy to hear that your group is being offered fledgling Nation status. The perks that were previously announced two~ weeks ago are still what is being offered, sans the protective region. That is no longer a perk offered to nations / kingdoms but a proper casus belli is still required for war.

If you're still interested in going forward with this (and I'm sure you are!), I will be around from 3 PM Friday -> onwards and most/all of Saturday evening. Contact me via Skype (squibbssss) or Discord (Squibbss#6449) to begin the process. Any other administrator should also be available to help as well. If you've any questions or concerns, please contact me and I'll help you the best I can.

Once your 250x250 region is set up as well as your tile, you'll begin the activity checking process. During this time, your nation will undergo sporadic activity checks. This requires no input from you other than actively roleplaying in your capital/settlement, something I'm sure you'll be doing regardless. At the end of the activity check, you'll be presented with a fee that must be paid should you wish to become a full-fledged nation. Failure to pay this fee will result in your region being shrunk down to its original state pre-Fledgling Nation status, as well as a revoking of your tile ownership. The price determined will be something easily obtainable during the two month period- it is just set up in this way as to deter random groups attempting to secure large amounts of land for little effort.

+1 im glad this is finaly reformed, has been a long while since the very vauge details were changed about charters. One thing I disagree with is the one way FTs. Personally: it discourages me to go and roleplay in human cities as a foreign or a human, in mind that it might be empty, there may be no one to rp with and I already SSed a minute ago, i prefer to avoid all these risks and just head away from those one way FTs. And now taking a new player for example, he goes into one of these FTs and say doesnt find anyone there, he cant go back because he has no SS and he is basically stuck in an empty town when he could explore another town and have fun.

Since the new fast travel system has been completed (much love @Tofuus and @501warhead) then I'm more than fine with them not being one-way but being a large timer (ten~ minutes or so).

As much as I disagree with having area's be 'unconquerable', I respect that some people want to be able to just have their rp hub and not have to worry about it being overrun via war claim from a horde of pvpers, but perhaps some sort of subjugation  setup for these peaceful areas that would be a little more friendly to rp around rather 'oh we just cant take that city', perhaps a monthly tribute or somthing idk, just seems a little off, seems theres better ways to do it that would help to further rp rather than hinder it.

Will likely be removing the unconquerable clause. While I think you guys are mostly misinterpreting it (imagine just declaring war on... say, Sutica, for example) it seems it'll be too much of a headache for what it's worth. That being said, however, the admin team will still reserve the right to deny an attempt to conquer another nation if it proves to be having or will have a massively negative effect on the server. Only one example has come up since I've been an admin and I don't expect to exercise that power often, if at all.

  11. 16 minutes ago, ElementalGamer said:

This doesn't exactly make sense to me, so essentialy nations can just become invincible if they're peacful for long enough?

It means if you're just a peaceful nation off generating roleplay and keeping to yourselves, you don't have to worry about a coalition of groups/players/nations coming in to blow up your nation and kill off your roleplay. It's not perfect, no, but players shouldn't have to constantly worry about pissing off the wrong people by not brown-nosing or supporting them. I'm in discussions with lots of people about it (like @Harold!) and it's likely to change lots of times in the near future.

The tile map has been woefully neglected ever since I became an Admin. Partly because I wouldn't even know where to begin on how to update it / things have always been a bit messy with the tile system. It's an amazing system and I intend on it being a staple for our maps going forward, don't get me wrong, but I wasn't around during its conception and just kinda picked it up and rolled with it.

  12. 1 minute ago, CaptainBrock said:

I really don't like the unconquerable plot concept. Even with it the possibility of it being taken away I still feel like it takes away from political RP. Also could be controversial as it isn't exactly clear what will get it revoked. What if it's just one group from that nation not endorsed by the leader? Feel like we'd be better off without it.

    26 minutes ago, Flapman said:

Not a fan of unconquerable plots. It restricts nation politics by a huge amount.

Can you please explicitly specify what actions will revoke a nations unconquerable plot so that we don't have multiple inconsistent verdicts in the future.

This is susceptible to change, as always. Really, the end-goal here is to prevent larger groups from bullying smaller groups out of roleplay // off the server. Roleplay if roleplay of course, but sometimes there's too much OOC or blatant harassment pushing the roleplay along. There'll likely be a pinned topic in a sub-forum in the near future that details every aspect of nation/kingdom status and fully details what to expect. Some things were left vague on purpose because they're likely to change as groups start using the new system(s) // issues crop up.

    25 minutes ago, 吳憾戰士14 said:

I'd imagine it would involve blatant acts of aggression/war. I.e: Constant raids, kidnapping/killing high profile members of another nation, vandalizing another nations land, etc.

I'd also hope that this would only apply when its clearly the nations' leaders (or at least high ranking individuals) doing such things, because I don't want anyone to be able to make an alt and **** over a nation's "unconquerable plot" out of spite.

Pretty much what was bolded. Groups that are constantly a pain in everyone's side don't or shouldn't get a free pass and be protected, while other groups that exemplify peaceful roleplay shouldn't have to worry about stepping on someone's toes on OOC matters and then get warclaimed / obliterated off of the server.
