  1. It's sorta why server antagonists always work much better than player run antagonist, because we dont have anything at stake if we lose, so we can concentrate on crafting a memorable hero experience.

If an 'evil nation' ever rised up, I think it would be pummeled into the ground before anything meaningful can take off. Your interactions are much more limited for sure.

As the Queen's Dawn Revenge sails away from the Brev Ports, the old silver haired commander would look back at the burning trees and ruined lands, and think to himself.

    "Thank Xan we're outta here."

  3. The elderly Paladin looked over at the missive Tilruir'tir provided in the now make shift encampment of Al'Faiz, exchanging some hushed words with the ame paladin before signing deeply.

"No, no, I'll go and represent the Last Light. Go inform the Knights of Malchediel as well, I think Ser Peredur would be most interested in attending."

Very strong progress. My only recommendation is to take a breath, see how far you’ve come (100+ CRP event? what!), and pace yourselves. I wouldn’t want to see such a strong team get crippled with burnout. Your work is great, and it matters. Remember that.

i’m mandating the event sect go on forced leave when 8.0 rolls around for the first month and going to the workshop after that

Hey hey people, firespirit44 here. Welcome to the ST’s guide for applying to be on the ST Event Sect. The ST Event Sect is actually an incredibly difficult position to be in, and I would not recommend to people who feel that being on the event team just requires you to do 1 event a month and be called a good rper. Let me walk you through what we call the Story Team brief, this serves as the skeleton for all the projects that we run, and train STs to format their events for any medium-large scale events.

The ST Event sect is a place for those with discipline and persistence. Whimsical events and on-the-fly encounters can only get you so far. For a great event, you have to have these elements in your mind to consider.  Running an event is just like planning a party. You need to consider where you’ll get the food, what space, who’s coming, what time, etc. It’s a production. Most ST Events have never been apart of world events or run large productions, but they all follow the same principles, but increased greatly in scale.

    Story Team Brief

This document is supposed to represent a pitch for your event to be implemented and worked upon by the Story Team.

    Guidelines

    • Remember to start small, you cant just make a event that involves in the entire player base and say that the events will be completely ‘player-driven’. I expect more thought to be given to the actual logistics and execution of the event.

    • When you commit to an event, make sure you finish it. You are now in charge, and I will be checking on progress on it from time to time. Do not drag it on, make sure it has a start and end date so all of us know what needs to be done.

    • A major event is actually composed of many minor events that each need their own application.

    Event brief

    Description

    Contact Coordinator:

The person in charge of the event. Always include 2nd contact person information if possible, in case of emergencies.

    Name of event:

This will be important for further callbacks and documentation reasons. If its a minor event under a major event, put the name of the major event in brackets

Eg: The mirror in the lake event (Black Swan Event)

    Day/Date/Duration

Even if you aren’t sure about this initially, do at least give an estimate on what day it will be, and what time it will be (EST)

    Location of the event

Include image of the location, as well as coordinates

    Objective of the event

Establish in rp terms: Why should players care about this event.

    For example

    1. Failure of the undead could potentially ruin the castle walls, leading to a bigger undead [Minor] event

    2. Succeeding in this event would weaken the undead attacks in the next event.

Players want to know the direct consequences of their action, and it gives us room to pick up from where you’ve left off in case we want to tie it to something bigger in the future

    Event Attendee

Who is this event aimed at? Who do you hope to target? Who is the main person to coordinate the event with from the player side? Make sure to link their forum or discord profile.

    Setup requirements

The real meat of the event brief. Creating props, builds, supplying rewards will all take work, so be as detail as possible.

    Eg:

    Build:

Small medieval castle with garden with statues of gargoyles around the area made with sandstone

    Reference build picture:

    (pictures)

    Event uniforms:

    (pictures/image)

    Lore to be references

This section is for what lore will be used for the event, or what it might impact in the future.

    Rewards

What are the rewards for the event? It doesn’t have to be an artifact, but a proof of kill is encouraged to keep things memorable. Include screenshot of the item and the description please.

    Promotion

If there are multiple groups joining, or if this is an open event, how do we let other players know about it? Not everyone is in a discord group, think of the players who dont use the forums much. Use NPCs and notices ingame if possible.

    NPC’s to update

A new addition to the list, the NPC’s to update is a network of NPCs scattered around the world to provide news on events that are happening/happened in a region. You should scout out the location of any nearby towns/cities where your event is happening, and install NPCs to inform people about it and direct them to the players who have participated in it.

    Instruction for actors

If this event requires multiple actors to lead groups down different paths, make sure you update the instructions on what should be done and the one of voice use.

    Eg:

    Tone of voice:
Scary, foreboding, constantly making reference Blood King, using red and black

    Inspiration for the event

While not as important, this is a nice detail to have because we know what you were inspired by, and could open up new ideas to collaborate based on interpretation of the inspiration material. Also gives guidance to the actors and the builders on the style of event you want to convey.

In case of an emergency, what happens to the event?

A good precautionary measure in case the event goes haywire due to IRL obligations. Can it be passed to someone? Can it be held back for a week? What should we tell the event attendees

    q4rXiQW.png

This brief is how we organize everything in the ET.

An event is a production, like setting up a very complicated music festival.  A event can either be a one off event, or a continuous campaign. But no matter the size or length, these are the things every ET needs to address

    0.a) Brainstorming session

    a) The date and time of the event

    b) Writing the brief

    c) A set to be built

    d) Possibly media (I'll be honest we haven't had time to organize a photoshoot/video for our events)

    e) Attracting the attendees

    f)  Permission to use the lore

    q4rXiQW.png

0.a) Before we begin a project, we always visualize the objective of the event. What is the ultimate goal? Do we want players to explore a new lore concept? Do we want to increase awareness on x y z location? Its why a brainstorming session over voice always happens.

    q4rXiQW.png

    a) Then comes deciding the END DATE, and the TIMELINE for a project. It will be rough, subject to change, but we must always try and create a draft or else we will never know if we're on time. That usually involves the people in charge sitting down and hammering out a date together.

    q4rXiQW.png

    b) Then comes the brief. Like any project management,  this is a rough guide on what's going on and will happen in the future. There can be several briefs for the same project. There can also be a master brief that details the entirety of the campaign. This is given to both actors, builders, skin makers, film makers, GMs, admins. This should have all the details, especially the master event document.

    q4rXiQW.png

    c) A set to be built: Sometimes something as simple as building tent also requires getting the region owner permission or getting managers/mods to add you to the region. And there's also the actual build that needs to be done as well, and preferably having this organized before the start of the event with the actor.

    q4rXiQW.png

    d) Possibly media: Depending on the style of events, world events need as much hype as possible to get attendance. For Inferi chats Screamingdingo is in the habit of pinging Firewatch alliance with a signup form to get people to commit, and ideally we would always have write ups after every major event.

Media would also include high resolution screenshots, possibly video, or getting people to comment on a forum thread by the ST (Sometimes we just cant be bothered though. Bad on us, but we're very spent after running an event. I might look into getting the habit of getting a draft post ready before). This also serves as a showcase for people who couldn't make it, and yet to still keep them in the loop. This is very important, especially when players want to investigate down the line on the events that transpired.

    q4rXiQW.png

    e) Attracting attendees. So you've setup your events, now you just need to drive the crowd to it. This would usually be the role of the actor to source their own crowd, but for world events management tends to take a heavier role since we are the ones who are doing the planning and instructing actors to execute the event. Its why its useful to be apart of many discords, and why the ST management take into account for player representation. Sometimes it might involve you just pming people you feel might be interesting in the event to come along. This is where a lot of outreach comes in.

    q4rXiQW.png

    f) Permission to use lore:

    f) Permission to use lore: If you notice in the brief, there's a lore/resources used. All events are based off lore of some kind (unless the ET just feels like relaxing and doing some meme animal rp but I dont condone those as 'official' events). We will always link the resources, and which ST Lore member can be reached to act as consultant. And there will always be someone who has a question, so having a point of contact smoothens out  the process if they're in a pinch.

    q4rXiQW.png

    g) Costumes + Script:

Finally, after all of that, we need to give the actors a document to actually telling them what they're expected to do. Actors/Directors need to prepare themselves with things like

    1) References from other mediums

    2) Tone of voice

    3) The actual lore the event is based off

    4) Redlines to be aware of

    5) Actual location(warps)/dates for the events

And within these we need to possibly do things like sitting down with them to talk about what would be an interesting concept to get the actors personally invested in the event, easy-to-digest bullet point info for lore that is summarized, pasting in the builds and creating the appropriate warps, down to getting them skins from the CT

    q4rXiQW.png

    q4rXiQW.png

The questions asked in the interview

The event sect will always follow a base set of questions, and ask the participants to expand further if they are interested in the applicant. Generally we start recruiting a lot when there are upcoming projects that we need to execute. Otherwise we will generally let apps wait out for a month. We do take into consideration on references and people who leave constructive comments on their apps, but a ‘great rper +1’ does literally nothing for us. It might as well have been a 5 star without comment review.

All ST Event’s are initially brought on as Temp STs. Their trial period will generally last for the duration of the project, or whatever that is agreed upon between management and the Temp in question. If the Temp ST has performed well in the event assigned, we would extend the contract to being a permanent staff. However there have been qualified ST’s who have turned down the position due to lack of time. A Temp ST still has access to the full base pex of an ST Event.

So if the applicant is selected for an interview process, here are the questions below:

    q4rXiQW.png

    1) I'd like to see some sort of portfolio or examples of anything you've done. They can either be complete new or old resources. I just want to get a grasp at what style of 'events' you would like to do and that sort of thing, as outlined in your application.

    2) What specifically drove you to apply?

    3) What playerbases are you comfortable for doing events for?

    4) What are you available times?

    5) Do you know anything about the XYZ Temp Event Jobs?

    6) How much time are you happy to commit to helping out the ST, not being on LOTC. Being ST is considered work after all

    7) How comfortable are you at macro type rp, meaning you DM for 10-30 people using npcs while being proactive and reactive

8 ) Are you a fast thinker and typer? Things happen very quickly when you have to process 5 emotes at once and respond accordingly

    9) Do you understand that being on the ST comes with a lot of ooc outreach organizing good event times, and that end of the day you are responsible for helping to drive the narrative? You must be a team player and work together with your project leaders and team mates

    10) Do you understand that playing an ST specific character will sometimes require you to retire/kill it off at the end of it? You cant grow attached to them and rp them selfishly beyond what is reasonable for them.

    11)  What specific pieces of lore are you familiar with? How capable are you at absorbing new lore required for events?

    12) Do you have an interest in game design at all?

    13) What are your inspiration for events?

    Personal thoughts on the matter

Being a good rper, having decent spelling, being well liked are the MINIMUM to become a good Events personnel. To become a great ST Event, you need to add on project management. Every event runs on deadline, leaves a paper trail, and becomes case studies. You will learn how to deal with people, and sometimes be faced with absolute indifference initially. What I'm looking for are the people who will add to the LOTC narrative tapestry with their own unique addition to it, and be the driving force behind memorable character development for the players.

I always look for those who are disciplined. Just because you were on the ET previously does show a level of competency, but times are changing. We cant keep doing events like we always have. I’m always looking for people who can push their boundaries, rise to the challenge, and have a fantastic story to tell for LOTC. New systems, new ways of thinking, new angles of approach! Competent event actors were always the hardest of them all to be fulfilled.

If you’ve made it this far, I give my hats off to you. If you are selected in your interview process and do a cheeky 🔫 emoji at me, I will have known that you have read through all of this. And we can cut to the chase and talk about how you plan on bringing something to the ST events.

  6. Hey all, just wanted to make an announcement we are stopping recruitment for the Story Event sect.

Although if you still think you’re a great fit, feel free to apply! But I cant guarantee when we’ll get around to them.

I will be announcing that we will be looking for builders and some writers come next month for workshopping, so stay tune for it then!

The old paladin piled with missives, maps, and charts was delivered the latest news from the mainland. His thoughts wanders towards the mission Captain Alicjo was sent on, the thoughts of the crumbling Al-Faiz surfacing in his memory.

”A city is a bastion. It does not gurantee posterity, but without it you are doomed to scatter to the four corners of the land. Let us work so that Aegrothond will not fall like Al-Faiz.”

With that said, he would pen a response for the Sea Prince privately, sending it back on the same courier.

  8. cooltext362110071278533.thumb.png.0ec0e52afeddac40b872f12441775e01.png

    q4rXiQW.png

“You do know that this is tantamount to suicide right, Jack?”

Crumena of Kamees would query with a strange calmness as the Paladins sat in the war room of Luxem, detailing their plans. It’s been a year since Al’Faiz has fallen to the demonic forces, three years since the loss of the Hammer of Urguan, and reports of Inferi reaching Aegrothond and Helena grow in a nice little stack by the table and boards now. The situation was dire, the dwarves and those of the Firewatch Alliance were setting up a defensive perimeter and enacting a naval blockade, but the old Paladin felt it just wasn’t enough.

“It’s a risk I’m willing to take. I’m willing to gamble my life and those who follow me for gutting the Inferi operations. And I don’t intend to fold.”

He would rap his knuckles lightly on the map, detailing construction plans for tents, a resupply port in Aegrothond, naval schedules for the Queen’s Dawn Revenge, and most importantly the backing of the Talus Grove. Archdruid Nivndil looked at the elderly Seeker in his eyes, and somehow was convinced that sending a crack troop of warrior druids alongside the newly ‘united’ Paladins to be a good decision.

A veteran of many campaigns, Jack was undeterred, and continued making preparations. A camp intended to reconnaissance, for subterfuge, and for the love of Xan,  they would be able to use it as a launchpad in the future should things get too hot. The Queen’s Dawn Revenge with her 5 ballistae would hold off any small raid by patrolling the sea, but if the demons inhabiting the encampment ever turned their red eyes towards them, they were doomed and Jack knows it.

Their only hope, was to stay unnoticed, and to keep relaying information back to those of the Firewatch. Alongside the Paladins and Druids, came the Brotherhood led by Anduin de Rhys, Eldamarians led by Kairn Ithaelanen, adventurers of all shapes and sizes, former mercenaries, current mercenaries. It was a camp made of the strangest mix of people who Jack found, or found Jack in return. But they all respected one thing. The ability to stare death in the eyes, and come out the victor. And so they listened to this geriatric man clad in black, as they hoisted sail from Sutica, sailing past the Siege Fortress of the demons, and landing in a little strip of beach near the edges of it all. Perhaps it was because of his doomer nature, but Jack rather fancied the name ‘Last Light’. Vailoen promptly rapped him on the shins for it.

Should you disembark from the White Rooster traveling between Aegrothond and the Last Light Camp, you would notice Diomedes carving away at some stakes, Velenius and Dresden constructing tents, as Jack would be talking to a group of adventurers, his maps and parchments simply pouring out from his table, his familiar voice droning off

“Are you looking for a mission? I’ve got several that might fit your group. It’ll be dangerous, so be prepared with your cloaks, equipment, potions......”

    OOC Commentary

Hey hey people, firespirit44 here. Welcome to the long-form-campaign that focuses a lot on the sabotage, scouting, ambushes for actions against the Inferi! We’re a small camp, but that could change accordingly within the next few weeks depending on what the players do. I’m here mainly as a organizer between the players and the ST, so feel free to reach out.

Every week, I’ll post anywhere between 3-5 events for people to undertake over discord. You can contact me at kai#3130 to setup something with me if you want to participate, this camp welcomes small group or individuals rather than being part of any nation per say.

The rules for the camps/missions are simple:

    1. The actions of each event contributes to the overall narrative of the camp. Your wins and losses could easily determine the future of the camp, so do be mindful of that
    2. Just as we can attack the Inferi, they too can attack us. Failure to repel attacks will cause the camp to suffer, and could possibly be eradicated entirely. Timing for the attack will be established roughly ahead in advance. Actions can be used to reduce the intensity of the attacks.
    3. If you want to go on missions, you must attempt to meet up with the mission leaders or be part of the pre-event briefing, and keep up with the plan OOCly. This is in order to save time for the ST, as understandably discussions can take anywhere from 30 minutes – several hours. The planning should be done well before the start of the events.
    4. You need a MC item to rp you having it! Dont just emote having a spyglass, a net, a javelin or sword without a MC item representation. Things like cloaks we can forgive with skins, unless it has a specific property like fire resistance etc. Then we’ll need to see the signed item.
    5. Have fun together! Its a team effort, where Captains are picked organically to lead missions. But make no mistake, all missions are generally medium-hard scale, with scouting being the easiest. Take lots of screenshots, and have fun trying to come up with solutions to challenge the Inferi.

Should you have access to the Firewatch Scouting reports, you would find a fresh new stack of parchments deposited on the table.

    Mission #1: Fortress Scouting

    (Hosted by Knightei)

    unknown.png

    People involved:

Aiden, Alicjo, Apollyon, Becclain, Diomedes, Harold, Nivndil(C), Tailesin, Xanthus

    Details:

Landing upon the remains of the Korvassan Voidal Tear, we pushed in-land to begin observing the fortress from the North. There we observed few guards upon the walls themselves, but heavy numbers emerging out from the gates, moving out in the vague direction of the Inferi main encampment. As the gates opened, we could see a mass of writhing flesh within, resembling a mass grave of sorts. Beyond the bridge on the mainland, a farmhouse garrisons some three-dozen Inferi troops, but all remained unaware of our presence. We send Harold in to retrieve a sample from the wall, to test it for alchemical and Druidic weaknesses. The exterior of the fortress is fortified with organic walls of flesh, which appear to respond to touch, as the wall seemed to recoil upon Harold's cutting away at it. The Inferi garrisoned within the fortress appeared to realize this, and emerged soon-after. All personnel were able to retreat to safety and we returned to camp.

    Mission #2: Al-Faiz Operation

    (Hosted by Bathrugman and Worldeater)

    n/a

  9. A simple, charcoal message is scribbled on top of any empty area that Tanith’s parchment has.

”Please consider the fact that demons are prone to trickery, and that no naval battle has ever occurred before, during, after the Fall of Al-Faiz. The armies of the Grey sunk their own boats, bridges, and their supplies once it was clear what was going to happen to them. As a war leader in the Firewatch Alliance, no naval battles have happened to date.

Date of Fall of Al-Faiz: 13th of The Grand Harvest, 1784

Date of Expedition: 6th of the Sun’s Smile, 1786

Why there was a marooned Farfolk sailor when no trade ships pass the straits, reeks suspicion. I take full responsibility for the actions of the crew. You know my office doors are always open.

So as far as this goes, will you be pulling apps out of the regular st app list or are there special ones to be made? Will requirements be different? Can one go from a temp st to a perm st if they perform well enough?

Any apps currently on the forums will be judged to be either Temp or Permanent. If an ST app does not have [Temp] next to it, we will assume it is meant for a permanent position, though we may initially offer a temp position. Requirement and time dedication for permanent is much higher. And yes a Temp can go to Permanent if they perform well enough.
