  1. That's exactly what I mean: As a dark elf and a human you shouldn't even be allowed on the grounds.
  2. So, it's old man Nelecar here to discuss an important issue that does (To my shame) get my blood boiling a bit OOC: The abuse of our racial identity. It's come to my attention that only the minority of high elves are actually roleplaying high elves as they should be roleplayed. To summarize, see Sporadic's wonderful guide here: http://www.lordofthecraft.net/forum/index.php?/topic/40509-high-elven-rp-guide/ Now, I know what you're thinking. 'I don't want to RP my high elf like that! It's mean and not very nice!' But let's just stop one second and think about it. Yes, this attitude may be mean and not very nice at all. Does that means it doesn't make fun roleplay? Not in the slightest, and thinking like that is just a case of letting one's IRL morals cloud how their characters thinks and acts. We, the mali'aheral lore team have created this racial identity which only we have ended up using. This doesn't feel too great, as you may expect, to spend so much time working on this stuff and have it trampled on by people who want to RP as 'nice' people - but the truth is it's not that black and white. Let's get an example in here. The Maheral, Dio Astore, is a good example of a balanced (ideal) mali'aheral here: He doesn't allow his emotions to cloud his judgement, he's rational, but he's also cold and detached. He's not fond of the other races at all but recognizes the benefit of working with them and doesn't see the point in drawing bad blood where there's no point in doing so. My own character, Nelecar, is a good example of a radical mali'aheral. He's openly condescending, racist, xenophobic and thinks the world would be a much better place without the other races. He believes simply being born of two mali'aheral makes him superior to every non-elf, but he's an advocate of non-violence. And then there's the opposite mali'aheral, the liberal mali'aheral, which is what I describe in this thread. It shouldn't be happening in Haelun'or. Openly protesting against the government and the ideals of the high elves is one thing that can possibly lead to good RP. Staying silent and secretly disagreeing in order to receive free housing in the city is another and one I frankly won't tolerate. I personally recommend playing a balanced mali'aheral if you're more of a new roleplayer, but if you so desire and if you roleplay it well I won't object to more radicals. You may believe it's rather vain of me to make this thread but it's not for my own benefit. It's merely that I'm quite disappointed few are roleplaying high elves in Haelun'or how they should be roleplayed. The identity we spent so long working on and fine-tuning. Just consider it: You don't have to have a 'nice' character to engage in stimulating roleplay. Sporadic's Added Note:
  3. I don't remember ever seeing that in-game. :D
  4. This is rather inaccurate. High elves reject all kinds of religious beliefs in Malin, God, creation, etc, and instead are zealously devoted to another ideal known as Maehr'sae Hiylu'ehya. I would elaborate, really, but quick post is quick and others are a lot more qualified than myself to explain it.))
  5. I thank you, and by presenting such an argument you have earned my respect.
  6. The First Mali'aheral Legion The flag of the legion. <A long notice lays pinned on Haelun'or's message board, taking up most of the right side.> Long ago, before even the mori'quessir, the blessed race of the mali'aheral had an empire which spanned a significant portion of Asulon. They were a race of pale-skinned scholars with the top priority of maintaining their way of life throughout the centuries. And then they disappeared, the only traces of their existance the remnants of the college of Haelun'or. Now, their descendants have returned to their rightful place in Haelun'or - and an organization needs to be formed to uphold the traditions of their forefathers. This organization is known as the First Mali'aheral Legion, and it serves as both a defensive and offensive military, being the protector and enforcer of tradition. Hierarchy The Okarir'sil (Master of Military) is a member of the Silver Council and has absolute authority regarding the military. He controls it, and obedience is expected from the rest of the Legion. Current Okarir'sil: Nelecar IGN: Iorwen. The Legate is the second in command. He answers to nobody but the Okarir'sil, and while the Okarir'sil deals with the political aspects of the military, he deals with the more practical ones. Current Legate: Talerame IGN: BigHatMan The Auxilary is a rank below that. He serves as a recruitment officer and answers to the Legate and the Okarir'sil. Current Auxilary: Octavius IGN: VonAulus The Captains control small parties of two or so. They have more authority than the average soldier but aside from that they are similar. Current Captains: Arthane Lazul IGN: aaaa1188. Lazul Squad: Valarus (Deceased), Ev, Seth Calith. Roles and Identification There are three roles in the mali'aheral legion - each one has a uniform assigned to them. Note: The Okarir'sil and the Legate are exempt from wearing uniforms. The auxilary and the captains have specially modified uniforms. Justiciar is the first role, and it serves as that of a swordsman. Using efficient swordplay and agile moves, they take down the enemy from up close and are the shock troops. Known justiciars: Valarus Aliris ((IGN: Relendiss)) Uniform: WIP. Ranger is the second role and it's your average archer/scout role. The ranger needs to be stealthy, quiet, and good with a bow. They usually go on recon and scouting missions. Known rangers: Captain_Arthane_Lazul ((IGN: aaaa1188)) Ranger_Seth_Calith ((IGN: samler)) Uniform: WIP. Inquisitor is the third role - and it is that of the battlemage. An inquisitor's speciality can vary from healing magics to offensive magics, but they serve as the infiltrators and agents and they rain down fire or healing from above. They are effective but unfortunately fragile. Note: You need to have proof of magical training to become an inquisitor. Known inquisitors: Ev ((IGN: Meet2012)) Uniform: WIP. (( An application is coming soon, and this is mainly a WIP. Until then, if you would like to join, express your interest in this thread and the desired role and I or Talias will track you down. Uniforms are also coming soon. Like, when I arrange someone to make them... Until then: Enjoy our unofficial theme song, because we're totally a rigid imperialistic society. Yes yes. All credit goes to Bioware. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=by-2sQ2yDBY )) (( LE UPDATE: APPLICATION (Credit goes to Talias) Out of character: Truename ((MC name)): Time zone: How much can you be online?: What are your stats? (All of them): In-character: Name: Species: Are you a registered citizen of Haelun'or?: Which role do you wish to fufill? Justiciar, Inquisitor or Ranger? Why do you wish to join the legion? ((You'll need a bloody good reason if you're a non-high elf)): What can you do for the army?: Why should we accept you?: Do you have any army experience?: Do you agree with the mali'aheral way?: I apologize for the blatant lack of uniforms...I do need to get someone on that.))
  7. Material possessions are worthless. We would happily educate you (Even if not one of the blessed mali'aheral) should you meet our requirements.
  8. Just so you know, high elves don't like to live in trees at all, or at least the splinter group in Haelun'or. It's quite the opposite, really, as they see nature as chaos and they tend to be murderously obsessed with order.))
  9. As we can see quite clearly here the would-be activist, when his argument is disproven, flings insults with no basis around. What has Malinor come to?
  10. No-non high elves have permission to view any of the tomes in the college except for a select few. I know those include Rivell Gordian and Sovereign Lorethos, but there may be more. This will not change, Aurea, and you would be wise to change your attitude. Humans are to be useful if they are to be permitted into Haelun'or. Otherwise they will stay with their own kind. We do not suffer tourists.
  11. "There's no guarantees of it actually working of course, but I have high hopes."
  12. "I assure you, I am formulating something as we speak."
  13. To Laurir'leh, I assure you, were he a full-blooded wood elf or even a full-blooded human I at least would have attempted to have a discussion with him. Haelphon or any half-blood is not worth any true mali'aheral's time. Wood elves are discriminated against for their worship of fictional gods and the chaos that is nature - these are both things that can be overcome. Overcoming this makes you our equal. You can not, however, overcome what you are born as. I would sooner ally with the mori'quessir than a nation ruled by a half-blood. To the activist in question, You only praise Aurea because she agrees with you. I will not deny that we are discriminatory. This is blatantly obvious. I am proud of it. ADDED NOTE: We do not discriminate against Aegisian dark elves, and we will not form an opinion on them until they form a distinct racial identity. - Nelecar, Master of Military of Haelun'or.
  14. I do not argue with half-breeds. You are correct, and I thank you for taking the viewpoint you have. Mali'aheral when not in their native lands are obligated to act politely and pleasantly - this is dictated by an unwritten code of conduct. On our lands, however, we are not, and we are free to discriminate as we see fit. The bottom line is similar to what my colleague Artaeum mentioned - the fact that some citizens of Malinor actually feel the need to protest what we do on our own lands makes you no better than the 'racists' you are crusading against. - Nelecar, Master of Military of Haelun'or.
  15. To the would-be activist, Ah, I see. You attempt to demoralize me in your argument by claiming I deserve no such response - mind you I demand no response either - but your efforts are in vain. If you're as righteous as you have implied you would not discriminate against the discriminator. Not that I have issue with such, I am not a hypocrit, however you seem to be. A common misconception is that we discriminate because we do not understand or because of some petty appearance reason - this is entirely false. We do not discriminate without giving extreme amounts of thought to the matter. We understand the lesser races and we know how they act. I would be more than happy to enlighten you on our reasons for the so called racism. To Aurea, I assure you there are reasons why we do not let anyone of any race into Haelun'or - if you're looking for just one of them look at this person I am arguing with now. To be superior is our culture. We as mali'aheral are the intellectual superiors of the other races. Our ancient empire spanned centuries, and we have made more advances in the fields of science, magic and the arts in that tiny span of time than the other races have in their entire existance. Some deny this, and say that despite our hardships and our efforts we should still be equal with humans - or even worse the vile orcs - that after painstakingly collecting immense amounts of knowledge in the aforementioned subjects we are still no better than when we started? This is just one of the reasons. Others are matters of culture, defense and laws of which we abide by. Nelecar, Haelun'or's Master of Military
  16. The other races are intellectually inferior to us - that is fact and undeniable. However, as elves you are still far closer to us than humans or orcs, and as such you will be tolerated. We will not be subject to Malinor's rule. We are not part of Malinor - not whilst Haelphon is your high prince. Justified prejudices do not need to be curbed, and do not think you will start a revolution - we will not abide by your liberal customs. If you do not like being discriminated against - change your viewpoint or leave us. - Nelecar, Haelun'or's Master of Military
  17. I do indeed hope the Legion is not necessary - but the natives are a violent and bloody people. It is not likely they will resolve things diplomatically.
  18. You have the military's support in that regard - this threat will be quelled.
  19. Do not play that card - a very human saying. I feel rather unclean even saying it, actually, but that is another topic. Do not use the Maehr'sae as a trump. I will support this reform if indeed the proposer of a tir'oem is not revealed to the general public. ((The 99%?))
  20. I'm afraid I was required to take the Maheral's suggestion and select Talias as my Legate. We may potentially need more legates in the future but not right now. As for more military work, after your current 'jobs' are finished you should contact me.
  21. It does, actually. If someone is good at his chosen profession but the people despise him his otherwise well-thought out and good proposal will most likely be rejected. The common people can not see individual merit when their judgement is clouded by a shroud of hatred. Likewise, if someone has come up with an awful proposal but is a charismatic and upstanding citizen it could in fact pass and as such we would be stuck with a faulty tir'oem. These are the flaws of democracy.
  22. Anything about non-council members voting should be removed from the reform, please. Remember our politics is run by merit not charisma which means the public shouldn't be able to vote and protest certain laws.))
  23. <A note lays pinned on the message board bearing the seal of the Okarir'sil.> The First Mali'aheral Legion has opened its ranks to new recruits. Those in the militia will be tasked with defending Haelun'or and its citizens from raiders and other foreign menaces. They will also be tasked with enforcing the Maheral's will on those who challenge traditional high elven ideals. If an offensive military force is by chance needed guards will become soldiers on the Okarir'sil's command. Report to Okarir'sil Nelecar or Legate Talias if you're interested.
