  4. Coming into this thread I fully agreed with @Zarsiesas I've had a similar opinion when it comes to magical characters and pks, how long it takes to learn magic, etc.. But then further into the thread I come to agree with @Werew0lfon the points of lore/magic community toxicity and a staff-enforced pk clause for self-teaching.

    But with all things the thread only gets better as more people add to it and I agree with points made by @Islamadon, realistically I also don't particularly have the most trust in players to do things for the betterment of the server instead of themselves and their friends.

    As a long-time player on lotc, I find it incredibly exhausting that magics can take as long as they do to learn when in reality mastering a magic is more so akin to just knowing the lore, its redlines and being comfortable to ask questions as many times as it takes to understand it.

    What I'd like to see going forward with regards to the topic is that perhaps instead of allowing for example a T5 Necromancer whom just PK'd to self-teach on another persona that we can instead is if this player attains necromancy again on a new persona perhaps they can be fast-tracked in tier progression as a gifted student as OOCly these players would have as much understanding of the lore as their teacher.

    I hope discussion on this topic deepens and more players voice their opinions so much so that we as a community can see if changes can or should be made in regards to the topic.

  5. I feel like the people in charge of the various aspects of the next version of LoTC are too opinionated and have too many players they don't like or trust which is costing the community. What phase of the next version is the team even on, will they even discuss a post like this at this time?

    Describe this magic or a creature as a whole:

             

    Xan's Knights the Paladins which use xannic mists of gold, silver or green are a holy deity based magic which takes up 3 slots, a 4th being required to learn the sunlit sacraments optionally as an addition. Their power comes from the deity Xan, Aengul of Order and Guardianship whose mists is represented as Cobalt and has charged his servants such as the Athna's with the purpose to bring order to the realm and to guard the four descendant races from the darkspawn/draconic entities. Xan and his Paladins have a lengthy history involving their war against corrupted dragons such as Setherien, even so far as losing an important battle and getting immolated thusly turning them into the Harbingers which plagued the descendants in Anthos along with Setherien at the time. Xan would even go so far as to descend into the mortal realm along with others of the Pantheon to thwart a plot to reborn Iblees which was heralded by the death of metzli and the invasion of the inferi.

    New paladins are ordained at a chancery via ritual wherein their soul is painfully awakened and tethered to Xan's realm via cobalt mists which sparks an eternal ember within the soul of the initiate knight, which then signifies their duty to the Aengul Xan and to comply with his creeds which were passed down to the Athna of yore. This ember serves as their way to call upon the Xannic mists to commit to their duty and casts spells. This ember would grow in power as the paladin grows and becomes more experienced, and unlike an initiate who would likely feel intimidated by the gaze of their Aengul and fear incompetency a seasoned paladin would feel comfort like a fatherly gaze and thusly offer mental sanctuary for the paladin so that they can face adversity. In order for a descendant to become a paladin their soul must be untampered by unnatural influences such as dark magics and additionally they will not be able to take up other deific magics (seer exception). They must also be in their real physical body and not a epiphyte or other descendent-derived CA.

    Paladins use Embers to cast their spells, and at each tier they progress their eternal ember strengthens and its uses of embers increase numerically as each spell uses a different amount of embers, but this boon comes at a price. When a paladin nears half usage of their total embers they will begin to feel a mounting fatigue, aches and pains and harshness of their breath. Spells cast after this half-way point become agonizing eruptions of pain for the caster which can hinder the accuracy of their spells and also increases the difficulty of maintaining them. The final cast is peak sacrificial selflessness and will ultimately lead to unconsciousness after coughing blood, or locked limbs and such things as the strain of channeling divine energy through their mortal forms proves to be too much.

    Additionally paladins have a foil of sorts, as Xan is an Aengul of the creator it is thusly that his counter be anti-creation; the void. Voidal magics are capable of disrupting a paladins magics such as xannic fervour should the weapon be struck with voidal magic. It is also a great threat against a paladin's guardian's bulwark spell, as tier 3 voidal projectiles count as one strike and each tier thereafter counting an additional strike so that voidal magic can tear through a paladins defenses.

    Finally Paladins adhere to a code of conduct, a covenant with their deity Aengul Xan in which they must uphold lest they have their ember torn from them. These 6 laws can be summed up thusly:
    1. Do not engage in descendant vs. descendant wars (All descendants are equal in the eyes of xax)
    2. Paladins may join any organization so long as it does not break other covenants, they can also worship another being so long as it also doesnt break other covenants. (Can worship God for example)
    3. Do not attack, kill or betray fellow Paladins. You cannot send another to kill a fellow paladin either.
    4. Do not sell out your deity such as giving magic out for money, favors or personal gain. This also includes deific artifacts.
    5. Do not use your holy magic on innocents except in self-defense or there is clear intent that the person is a threat to others. Do not torture innocents. Do not kill innocents.
    6. Do not assist the DARK or anything that might jeopardize the covenants, order and guardianship must reign supreme.

     

    Are there different sections or subsections of magic? Can those be elaborated upon?

             

    Yes at tier 3 a paladin is given a choice by their teacher on if they will become a Vindicator or a Wyrmstalker and their mists will become augmented based on their choice.

    A Vindicator is the epitome of Guardianship who use their magic to defend and protect the grays and one such example is Marian Cross. Their arsenal is defensively based such as Guardian's Bulwark which takes the form of a barrier or an equipable aegis to defend against dark magics, or even supportive based such as Arknights Rally which will imbue their baseline xannic fervour onto the weapons of their allies limited to three allies and at most one ranged weapon.

    A Wyrmstalker is the zealot hunter, one that brings Order to the realm through hunting darkspawn ruthlessly and one such example is Seyren Windsor. Their spells are that of a hunter, which includes a trap such as Henryk's Binding to ensnare their prey, or their array of ranged spells such as Sunlit Volley which manifests three arrows of lightning which are sent airborne and land in a 2 meter radius area determined by the caster.

     

    Can you give an example of a casting emote, of a spell of your choice?

             

    Spell: Xannic Fervour

    Bolvar of Joma grips the shaft of his beaked mace tightly as he stares down a befouled creature of the dark, his brow knitting together in disgust as his golden xannic mists pour out of his steel gauntlet which holds his weapon and slowly begins to wash over it.

    The man would extend his weapon out as if to point it towards the creature, the golden mists wrapping around the beaked head of the mace and coalesce around the entirety of the weapon and thusly cause it to radiate a golden light like that of the sun empowering the held weapon with a holy affinity!

     

    Can you give an example of a teaching-emote (interacting with another) of a spell of your choice?

             

    Spell: Xannic Armaments

    Bolvar and his student Houri would enter the training grounds as their next lesson on how to use xannic mists would begin.

    "Right, Houri. Your greatest ally is your weapon, today I will teach you how to make use of your mists to manifest a weapon should it be otherwise.. Out of reach." the old paladin would announce to the youth, gesturing for her to stand before him.

    <Student does as instructed for sake of example>

    Bolvar of Joma would hold his gauntlet out, palm facing towards the sky above them "Now, call forth your mists youngling. Have it coalesce in the palm of your hand so that it may soon take shape and be in your grasp." he'd say aloud, and after but a brief moment of time his own golden mists would leak out from his steel gauntlet and swirl around the top of the palm of his right hand.

    <Student does as instructed once again for the sake of example>

    "Aye." the man would nod once in affirmation to his student as she listened to her instruction "Now, picture in that head of yours the weapon you will wield. Focus on it, remember it's weight, durability and shape." he'd say aloud as his golden mists would spread out from his gauntlet and begin to take the shape of a sword hilt, one which he would soon grasp tightly "This is as much your weapon as your mundane one, make no mistake." he'd comment, and the golden mists pushes out from the golden hilt to take the shape of the blade and thusly did the paladin now wield a xannic blade of mists "Though it be a blade, should I take it in both hands and throw it at my opponent it will not pierce. Such is the nature of our mists, it will shatter and inflict concussive damage.. Do well to remember that."

    <With guidance the student would follow the instructions and make whatever weapon it is they wield>

    "Very good! Now.." the elder paladin would take up his fighting stance "We shall spar, practice is important afterall.."

     

    Say your student powergames during or after teaching, how do you reprimand that?

             

    Due to powergaming being an OOC issue I will approach them OOCly to attempt to correct the behavior by going over the scenario with them and explaining where they have overstepped and reach levels of powergaming. I will go over the redlines of the magic with them and be open to any questions they may have or any misunderstandings they have of the lore and properly explain everything to them if needed. Ultimately if the situation is VERY grave and repeated I will likely reach out to other Teachers of the magic and ask for their help, or approach the Lore Team in regards to the behavior of the student.
