  1. Genuine question, @itdontmatta @Llir @Telanir

Has there been any discussion within administration or tech for a backup plan should the war server crash and burn? If there has, can we have some idea as to what the backup plan is?

I'd personally not want a repeat of last time. Maybe just remove raid cap with 1 hour notice before raid for war duration. Just think there has to be a discussion of this before the inevitable at the very least.

Also if any other players have any ideas for a backup plan/idea let me know because I'm curious as to what everyone else thinks about this.

This is the kind of ideology which brings people to scream out in OOC. This is a server - states, and individuals will collide, and they must, because that's the thrill, it's the entire point of LoTC's geopolitics, except these are often marred by jaded individuals incomprehensibly angry that people have different ideas and desires in roleplay, and might even influence them, including aggressive and unethical behaviour. Roleplay is mean to be fluid, to be about interaction first and foremost, and to roleplay only with small groups leads to eventual stagnation, to a certain staleness.

If roleplay indeed is better suited for a small group of friends, and you foremost care for the highest quality of roleplay, then by all means set up a private server. Otherwise, we have to know to let go of our ego when it comes to interacting with each other.

We can share a sandbox, and have fun. It's entirely possible, but it all depends on the mindset of the different parties involved. But if we're all reaching for a non-existent crown while jabbing at each other through means other than roleplay, then we have a problem. We have to accept that we are here to roleplay, to play a role. And that includes losing, being lying to, to get fooled. People unwilling to accept those losses are the problem.

ty for quoting me your thesis

But my opinion is not an ideology, nor does it have followers. Players on this server have been a certain way for years. If you think you can share the sandbox then promote that change in the community.

I don't see changes happening, I see an unmoderated forum where players enjoy essentially subtweeting eachother or sneak dissing for upvotes, and a missing ruleset for finalized conflict. We've gone through this cycle many times, this isn't the first post of its kind and it will likely not be its last.

    What is the % chance?

[~] Armor pieces now provide 5% resistance to a given Surge effect applied by a specific weapon, for a total of 20%

Does this resistance apply to thwarting dismounts?

  4. James Fisher merely shook his head "They will blame the MoJ, but forget themselves that it was they who voted in the politicians that changed the law to allow this rushed debacle to take place. This era of Orenian is surely the most uneducated and irresponsible." the pale man would state, lighting up a cigarette as his eyes glanced over a few choice documents "Our government herds the sheep well, don't they?"

  5. Hey I played Illaustius Horen back in the day and have had an issue that popped up when someone decided to make up children I didn't have to get some connection to Renatus. Just wanted to point out that only 1 child of mine married and it was to Eric Sarkozic and every other child I had died or did not marry, this other daughter 'Henritta' literally doesn't exist so if that could get cut from the tree that'd be great.

I already did a multi-hour debate on the last gun thread, it was funny.

    This is just sad now.

If you've already added to the debate previously why bother posting again? This thread could have 200 people saying 'yes' that doesn't mean the lore goes through.

  7. James Fisher finds the missive intriguing and folds it thrice, storing it with plenty of his other documents in the bookshelf at the base of his staircase in his home. He takes out some fresh parchment to fill out his information and send it off!

    Name: James Fisher

Past Accomplishments: Famed solicitor within the orenian empire.

  8. I'd like to add a bit more to the discussion to detract from ppl shitting on the current oldheads in charge or necromancy.

I've been reading through this thread and have come to understand a bit more about whats been going on with necromancy over the course of the server kinda. I feel like the solution that would be best for everyone is something that is not achievable due to current culture climate on LoTC, straight up. We've been through this song and dance before when it comes to conflict on LoTC and all the different mindsets involved with it. You want to know why conflict doesn't work on LoTC? Because none of you involved are friends OOCly.

RP is cooperative, and is always best between friends because then both sides are willing to sacrifice for the others' enjoyment. I don't exactly like that it has to be that way, but over my 10 years here the majority of the fun encounters and storylines are only ever done through friendship. No through some OOC contract and rules. If you want to do antag like things and retain your sanity while enjoying the time you put in for yourself and others, you need to be sitting in a discord with the people in opposition to you and literally just play other games with them and get to know eachother. But honestly thats a real pain in the ass and likely very draining for most people.

You can, however, look at this in a slightly different way. For each community on LoTC there are players that are well liked and respected. Why not befriend those people and see if they are interested in doing necromancy for THEIR community, with you as their roleplay leader? Yall need to be making some slick PR moves like that. Those communities are WAAAAAY less likely to **** on their respected friend and also less likely to metagame them.

There is no mutual respect between randoms on the internet. Especially in gaming.

I'd also like to throw my hat into the ring for necromancy so drop me a line DrakeHaze#5150

  9. Been here 10 years and the only necromancy that I've witnessed outside of Events and antags is when Lhindir walked into Providence with his Gravelord name above his head. I'm not too sure what my view on Necromancy and undead stuff is, I think its cool and a fantasy staple so its bound to attract players both positively and negatively. I think undead playable creatures and the like was another way to add more players into the fold of necromancy without giving them the magic, like a trial I guess.

The thing about promotion is generally what happens everywhere. Players in an army for example climb ranks and get bored eventually if their 'progress' becomes limited or reaches a conclusion. Difference between a necromancer and some army goon is that the army guy can pk his persona and basically do it all over again with a fresh coat of paint whereas someone with magic can't because they'd have to 'learn' the magic all over again for half a year to reach a similar point in power where they can comfortably produce conflict.

Idk if necromancy had pk clauses or what not but I think it'd be neat if a T5 necromancer that PKs whether through a clause or not, have the option to attain T2 or T3 Necromancy on a new fresh persona through some dark magic mumbo jumbo reasoning. Would likely ease the boredom with regards to promotions when there is an option for a new coat of paint.

I feel like the way magic is handled on LoTC in general is just incredibly lame. At first, 6+ months to master a specific magic seems fine on paper. However, what these restraints on magics don't take into account is that its not 6 months of active magical roleplay but a handful of training sessions and rarely any magical conflict. Additionally, since magic is such a huge IRL timesink for power rewards ,players are HEAVILY inclined to never PK their persona and just stack applicable magic apps until they have the equivalent magical prowess of Xerath.

Sorry for the rant in that last part but since the topic is about a magic I just had to share a bit of my opinion on magic in general.

What I want to see from necromancy? I want to see dark magics have an actual opportunity to achieve some sort of position of antagonist. I'd like to see necromancer players be able to gather resources, magics and create LITERAL naxxramas to rain plague and undeath upon farming villages. I want necromancer and undead players to have crazy goals like that and for it to be achievable through whatever system possible. Feel like the lifespan of necromancers should correlate to this sort of storyline, where a small cabal gathers in power and attempts some unbelievable feat towards the end. Either defeated or victorious, at least SOMETHING big and noteworthy happens. Necromancers and Undead should be very ambitious and at the peak of their power should be very confident and public. There needs to be a gameplay loop to keep all players interested, having an ENDGAME to magics just literally ends their gameplay most of the time. There should be a cycle rather than some linear progression.

Idk just ask @NarthokI heard he is interested in dark magics currently, should probably just make him the lich king and see what happens.

  10. James Fisher reads the missive and folds it twice, stowing it away at the bookshelf at the bottom of his stairs like most documents "Not teaching children law is a good move on their part. Gives me more business." the pale man would state aloud in his lovely home, sipping wine.

  11. Alteration died for the sake of balance in a non-competitive gameplay loop. Went from a mystical all-rounder magic that benefitted from smart usage by players to a magic that makes items to sell on auction house. I say this as a teacher of the magic.

The wizardly magic will never be the same.

  12. James Fisher is very shocked by this newly written missive, and like all missives he properly documents them in the bookshelves by his staircase. "A very thought out and well informed missive, although I have only one complaint. I am almost certain the Nordlings witnessed the Orenian flank led by the Luciensburg peoples and ran towards them thinking it was their main force, ultimately placing their forces out of position to be hit by Oren's main force. A bit of tunnel vision, that." the pale man would chuckle to himself, looking to the equipment he wore during the battle and taking note of some of its damage "Alas, I am just a lawyer. However, it is most obviously free to have an opinion. The Nordlings should have marched left towards the cliffside for a chance at victory."
