  1. *Telchar stares at the poster* "The first and only ship? Some Dwarves need t'e explore dere own lands abit more!" *he then wanders back to his ship yard"
  2. *Telchar scans the poster* Nae payment? Feck dat. *He then wanders off to Stormpeak*
  3. When you all started pissing on the gate was one of the funniest siege moments of all time. You can see me informing the Commander of it in that chat lol.
  4. *Telchar sifts through the hundreds of Orc skulls that now line the halls of the Dwarven Hold. Looking around he thinks back to the battle and chuckles with glee so hard he has to wipe a tear from his eye*
  5. ((Actually its entirely fair to accuse my character of not knowing how a steam engine works because rply he doesn't. I understand more about steam engines in real life than I do in rp. What my character does know is how to build a ship as he ran a ship construction yard at his home in Asulon. One of the ships later became a fast travel point on the map. The engines are constructed seperatly to the ship by Nalro and the Engineering Guild who develouped them using a combination of halfling technology and earlier dwarf technology. No one Dwarf has the knowladge to make the whole vessel. Other races could equally steal the inferior design on the halflings wheat powered engine but without the added dwarven element known only to a handful of dwarves they cannot produce steam engines without new lore. In regards to the ships design itself we have actually created this ship and two others (one of which is hinted at in the end of my rp) on a seperate server to get the rp details correct so further screenshots could be provided if needed. Note this first one is actually a prototype so expect issues on her maiden voyage that need addressing before we launch the finished product.))
  6. ((The reasons we jumped to steam engines was due to an rp lack of sail making materials. Dwarves live in snowy environments with a lack of animals including sheep. The obvious answer would be to trade for the materials but what nation wouldnt try and make its army/navy from local materials? As a race we are a secretive race and this technology would be closely guarded so other races would have to physically capture a ship or at least be left alone for a significant amount of time to replicate the design alone. The skills to create it would be an entirely different matter.)) ((Firstly I am aware of how steam engines work but once again as I have said twice this post isnt about develouping steam engines. The basic engine was developed a long time ago and its designs held by at least two dwarves still living. The Halflings not only created a simplified version of the technology but left their boat alone, unlocked and unguarded for the entire of Elysium and the Islands. Nalro simply snuck over there and studied the design, combined it with the Dwarven steam engine records and cleaned up two already existing designs. We just stuck it in a new boat design. Its not our lore and we dont need to defend its creation anymore than we do the anchors, stonecladding or the steering wheel. Its a combination of existing lore put onto a wooden boat hull. That also explains why it isnt lore because there is no new lore here.))
  7. ((Again note my earlier comment. This thread is not for the development of a steam engine. It has happened twice before by two separate races ( though the Halflings decided to use wheat to power it). It is already there and we simply used it to power a new ship design. There are no new ideas presented here just a combination of existing elements that any forward thinking character could combine with the resources and correct knowledge. Both of which the Dwarves a a race have in excess. All the rp has been done by my character and approval in both the game and ooc has been granted to go ahead with this project. This is simply a post to document the lore.))
  8. ((Just to clarify a bit btw is that this post isn't really about the invention (or re-invention) of the steam engine or steam power but the actual use of the technology on this scale. Its also an introduction to the new dwarven ship design that has been accepted and will form the inspiration behind future ships))
  9. ((Charles has some of Holms research in rp which helped with this engines development))
  10. Telchar Azaghal looks upon the ever increasing pile of supplies brought forth by Legion members and merchants. Standing upon the battlements Thorin Grandaxe blares orders of speed and redoubling efforts. Telchar removes a battered and water stained journal from his uniform opening it to a newer page and after muttering numbers seems satisfied before putting the book back to its safe pocket. As he does a thin piece of parchment, stained and worn to the point of being transparent falls from the book. He leans over to pick it up observing the rough scribbles upon its surface. Three distinctive styles of handwriting clearly make up the document. He smiles at the crudity and the memories it dredges up. Memories of Thorin blaring for a new vessel to grace his docks. Memories of scouring Elysium for precious fabric and the memories of his failure. Telchars attention is quickly drawn back to the scene at hand as the wheel of a huge tarp covered wagon crewed by the Legions strongest members comes loose. Thorins voice booms from the mountainside "Oi ya feckers! Dat dere wagon be worth more t'an yer ranks! Now get t'at wagon fixed!". Telchar chuckles knowing his own threats will no longer be needed. His mind drifts back to its previous wandering state as he recalls the day that wagons contents was designed. Upon failing Telchar had wandered to the docks in a state of despair. Not once had he failed in his tasks so far and not once would he fail. He sat thinking, hoping for an inspiration as it the ocean itself would spit up some secret it had so far jealously guarded to him alone. What he didnt realise is that today it would. As the sound of the waves lapped upon the docks it was slowly replaced by another noise. A noise of splashing and puffing. The splashing he expected from an approaching vessel but the puffing was a new sound to him. It was like the puffing one might hear from an Elder Dwarves pipe but louder and more frequent. Standing up he spied what seemed to be a barrel with disturbances on either side and expelling a smoke from a funnel upon its hull heading past in the distance. Among all his observations there was one that struck him the oddest. It was not what the ship did have it was what it didnt. A sail. Further observations were made over the next few days and it became clear only one destination lay that direction. The Halflings island! Rushing to the hold he sought out the only individual he knew who could help, the head engineer Nalro. Though flustered by his excitement Nalro could tell Telchar had hit upon something great and set out to investigate this "Sailess Ship". Within days he returned and hushed words only meant for Telchars ears. Within a week of this the Dwarf was seen talking in hushed voices to increasingly higher ranked Dwarves and it was only upon the eve of Anthos was a design approved by the King himself. A loud crash and further swearing from the Commander dragged Telchars mind back to the scene at hand. Thorin himself had come down now and was blaring orders close enough to deafen some of the Dwarves. He now trudged up the hill towards Telchar and spoke "The supplies seem t'e all be yere now as well as Nalros engine. 'E has done a fine job in converting its use to coal and promises it shall power yer ship with ease". Nodding Telchar once again removes his book and strikes a line through the materials list with a smile. As he does another piece of parchment falls from his book. The Commander picks it up observing a detailed sketch "Whut be dis Telchar?". Telchar takes the design from Thorin and responds "The future Commander. A new age fer us Dwarves. An age ov steam".

Now ye be carted of t'e a cold grave ov stone while I be free t'e wander t'e halls ov t'e livin'. Nae 'ave I found life fairer than this day." *Telchar touches the bandage that covers his wound, winces and wanders back to his room*
  13. Name: Telchar Azaghul Place an X besides the name of the candidate you wish to vote for: - Omithiel Strongbrow - Thorin Grandaxe - Kjell Stormhammer X
  14. I voted for Kal'Hudin partially because it would be amazing to have a capital city that pretty much everyone but those living there could pronounce.
  15. MC Name: troopermatthew RP Name: Telchar Azaghal
  16. What a fantastic guide! I didn't even consider taking my height into role play as a Dwarf. That is a perfect way ti inject a bit of humour into a usually stern character as well as giving me reason to talk to peoples help in more mundane situations. Thanks.
  17. Remember everyone that being patient with mods gets alot more done than rushing them even though it takes longer!

  18. What about connecting the cities abit more with the suggested railway system? I can donate over 500 rails to the cause.
  19. Make it water based all of a sudden I have a really great rp reason to sell glass bottles of water! Nothing like the death of thousands to make good buisness ;)
  20. I think the skills sytem just broke...

  21. I +1 this due to seeing his hunting buisness grow from him turning up to my hold with a few chicken carcass to running a small stall inside my store that has easily matched my store in profit percentages. RP wise this is a realistic move.

  23. ((well it cant actually be any members of my hold as none of us have villian apps, we get alot of visitors so they may just have fled to somewhere they know. I am happy for you to attack because of a misunderstanding though as that would make sense if you saw your attacker running to my Hold and also be a little bit more original as a roleplay motive. Lets be honest how many wars have started under misunderstandings! lol. ))
