I'm writing this journal because I'm sick and tired of staring at wheat all day, and because I owe it to a friend to record the events of both my life and his. I was born and raised a Highlander, taught that the only way to make it in life is through hard work and loyalty to your family and homeland. My father was a Heartlander and a soldier, but after his meeting with my mother, a great cook and Highlander, my father put down his sword and moved out of the city. As a boy I always looked up to my father and strived to be a warrior just as he was. He always told me I would grow into a strong man and a great warrior. At the age of ten I was training with a wooden sword and sparring against my neighbor and friend; Octavius. Both of us dreamed of fighting on the battlefield together, side by side, being brothers in arms. Our ambitions were only furthered when our fathers told us tales of valor and honor and how they fought as one in the "Trench Battle of the Crossroads". Together we grew into young men of eighteen and still yearned to leave the countryside and become great warriors. In the end however, only one of us would be leaving for battle... It was late one afternoon when Octavius' mother came to me with deeply saddening news; Octavius had come down with an extremely malignant fever. They knew not IF or when he would recover. It was only weeks later that he passed, and with his passing came much grieving. Such is life and in life there is friendship, happiness, sadness, and loss. I am now 22, it's been five years since Octavius' death and I am still training to become a soldier. I've grown into quite the man my mother tells me, yet I still have horrible luck with women. I cant keep a girl for longer than a week it seems. Other than my terrible luck with women, not much has occurred in the years that have passed. My training has continued, the farm has been well off, and mother and father are still getting along. Father's back is getting weak, but I'm sure my younger brother and sister will take care of that while I'm gone. It won't be long before I can become a soldier and leave this simple life behind. Maybe a simple life will be all I desire after years of battle, that seems to be the case with father. Who knows? For now, I push on and continue my training. It's been a year since my last entry, time for a new one I assume. I'm leaving the farm now and on my own, it is time for me to forge my own path and become a man. No. More than a man, a warrior.
