[Your View] Villain Application: 'Rehab'
Hobbs_Burrows replied to Sky's topic in News & Announcements Archive
Villain applications should not return in any form at all on the server. Take this from someone who was judging applications from their very beginning, who wrote many areas of the application itself, and finally got rid of them many years ago. They do not work and never have worked. To implement them in some half-baked I-just-want-them-to-punish-bad-roleplayers scenario is even worse than full blown villain applications. Holding threat on top of threat above peoples heads will only alienate the players on this server even more. The current system is completely satisfactory. -

Then what you propose is another useless punishment and hoop to make players jump through so it can be ticked it off as a successful 'GM project'. Instead it should be dumped on the scrap heap for the obvious reasons stated above. -

Since you didn't answer my question I've done your research for you. Under this proposed system, do you know how many people would be writing villain applications in the 2 years the blacklist has existed? Zero. Zilch. Nil. So what is the point? Are we going to go looking for bad roleplayers to actively punish them? Are the standards going to be artificially raised in order to catch people out and force them into writing a pointless application? I've covered this same ground time and time again. A useless roleplayer can write the best villain application you have ever seen. So the entire system is useless. This is just punishment for the sake of punishment for a problem that does not exist and has not existed on this server for 6 years. If a someone is so bad and is breaking rules enough to get blacklisted several times in a short frame then they can be told off with the rules you already have in place. 'Villain application' should not even be words in our vocabulary. -
[Your View] Villain Application: 'Rehab'

How many people are actually 'repeat offenders'? What will this actually do in terms of numbers? People should be worried that it simply opens the door to more extensive villain applications after we finally got rid of them 4 years ago. My first impression from this is that Sky really wants to bring villain applications back, but wants to find a way that won't get much resistance at first. It's a bad idea, it puts villains on a pedestal where it's one rule for them and one for others. Where if Sky and a team of skype gods decides their roleplay is 'not good enough' they have to go through a special tribunal of applications. We realised 4 years ago that applications had no effect on the quality of roleplay. So why make 'bad' villains go through it? It won't make them any better, it's just a waste of time for the person writing it and a waste of time for the people reading it. Until you can demonstrate that this would make anyone any better on the server then this remains a bad idea. Also listen to LeoRabbit99, he clearly know what he is talking about. -
You people are so soft and pathetic. Anyone that played in Aegis probably saw that pic of SerenityOnyx's baps. Not to mention a former admins nude pictures. So sharing a picture where someone just looks a bit funny is harmless in my book. Just because someone hurt your friends feelings doesn't mean you get to rally an angry mob when they get unbanned. Grow up

That shows how flawed the system is. The halflings should have a village of their own by default. Fast travel (if they want it) and soulstone. They're essentially a core, original race. Not able to be evicted at a whim by GMs who want the land for their necromancer guild like our old village.
-
Things that should be regioned: Capital cities (Human, Elf, Dwarf, Orc, and Halfling) The main road (but the region should end close enough so that people can still build by the road) Major towns that grow naturally through freebuild and earn the right to a region Freebuild: Everything else This is not to say the map will forever be a free for all unregioned mess. With freebuild, towns will naturally grow and they will earn the right to be regioned. This is a tried, tested, and successful method. If LOTC wants to keep new players and grow as a server, this is what we should do. If not, you're staring down the barrel of a 7th map, scratching your head and thinking 'what did we do wrong yet again?' Also, absolutely DO NOT do activity checks on nations. 2 years ago the GMs nearly destroyed the halfling race. An admin flew over and 'didn't see anyone there' and decided we didn't log on enough. The solution? Destroy everything they own. Grief the village, ban them from having a fast travel, ban them from having a soulstone, ban them from even having a REGION. This is one of the (pretty much) original races that was dished out shabby treatment by people who didn't care. Shameful from the GM team and never an apology. Don't do the same to anyone else.

501 and Telanir: Attacking decline one step at a time

It's like they're holding the server to ransom -
I couldn't believe what I was reading
-
LOTC is still living thanks to the brilliance of a freebuild map which you never got to play on
-
Nothing against you, but the idea that the server has an economy, and that you should be coming up with 'ideas' for the economy and managing inflation is comedy gold.
-
Are you not worried about causing inflation by providing us with this comedy gold?
-
This sort of attitude just shows people don't know what they want and what is good for them. This sort of attitude is why every map is worse than the last but you seem quite happy this way
-
One thing about Aegis was that outside the tightly-packed cluster of nations in the middle of the map was a seemingly endless wilderness you could explore. That won't quite be repeated since this is worldpainted but the large size of the map can be used to create a similar effect
-
How it should be: How it will actually be: Looks like the old mistake of hiding each race away into the far corners as far away from each other as possible has been made again. I also really don't like the whole 'desert here, mountains here, forest there' compartmentalising of the map. It means you will never get a Kramoroe for example, a human desert town that had the main road running through it at rooftop level. By removing that aspect of a minecraft map you immediately limit yourself to something very boring. Also, 8000 blocks from top to bottom is pretty huge.

I guarantee this will be a do-not-touch museum showpiece of a world covered with regions, don't try to pull the wool over our eyes
-
Is it freebuild?
-
2nd part absolutely. A skill system should give you cool stuff, and take nothing away. It's so obvious
-
I was told last night that it wouldn't be removed because it makes the server money. Is this a mobile game now? It really isn't a good idea to make playing the game so cripplingly tedious without paying a fee.
-
Absolutely do not do this. The halflings had their entire village griefed, their soulstone taken off them, and were banned from having a fast travel simply because when an admin flew over he didn't see anyone there. A shameful period of the servers history that should remain in history. I don't know which genius thought the way to remedy inactivity was to destroy everything an entire group of people owned and spent time creating. In my opinion regions on this server are completely topsy turvy. You region everything and then try to create little pockets of freebuild. It should be freebuild everywhere to start with, and then region what is necessary (race capital, big cities etc)

'I don't want to grind for hours just to be able to pick up a melon or make a door for my house' - how many times has this been said? We got rid of it 5 years ago and here it is again, exactly the same.
-
We realised crafting and professions plug ins were a bad thing after Vaquxine's final disaster in early 2012. Why, 5 years later, has the problem been repeated? Does anyone know what they are doing? If Tythus wasn't always absent he would have the experience to guide the server away from this
