((Letter #1 Circa, Snows Maiden 1316))

Dear Nicholas,

I have received your last letter and am delighted to hear of the success you have found in Norodrun. It would appear your appetite in Father's old volumes on architecture were well-founded, and your years as manager of our estate have served you well. You honor our family with your appointment as Lord Architect and renew your eldest brother Murwyn's faith in your ability. He now forgives you for leaving so abruptly as you did those few years ago, and renews your claim to as an heir to our family name. Furthermore, I am actively persuading him, as you so . . . aggressively taught me, to write his own letters to you, but he is much like Father was, so do not expect too much.

Now, when you first sent word that you had been hired as an architect, and I will be honest with you brother, I was shocked: as you had no professional experience beyond that of the old books. It would appear I was wrong to have underestimated you yet again. Please, continue to bring honor and glory to us all, and should you continue to impress, I will concede you have done more than my mercenary career ever could have to increase the standing of the proud Fandon House.

For the Glory of Kusalom.

signed, Ivestian Simel Fandon
