CloudMagma 196 Share Posted April 29, 2023 (edited) Renata von Bluecrest - A Cursed Childhood [!] This missive is posted around Adria, for any Adrian citizen or soldier to read. Renata would be seen inside the Adrian Barracks with a paper and quill once again, writing away for what seemed like hours. Wooden sword in hand, Renata swung his hardest at the straw dummy in front of him. Though the SLAP could be heard from the dummy, it budged not. A hand on his face, shaking in disapproval, Renata's father walked away from the sight of his son's failed attempt to knock the bucket off the the dummy's head without touching it. "But father, I'm trying my best!" The boy would cry out, begging for his father to understand. "Your best isn't enough!" His father would reply in anger. "Us, who came before you- who came before me were able to do it. Your brothers can do it. Why cant you do anything!?" He exclaims, pointing to Renata's siblings. The fourteen year old would cry, as he knew he was a disappointment to his family. He wasn't enough. He was the jester of the family, an icon to be laughed at, and to never be taken seriously. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't compete with his siblings, who had a natural talent for fighting. Throughout the life of the boy, he was met with constant competition, down to the smallest, tiniest achievement. Who was the quickest? Who was the strongest? Who could pass this training task faster? Wrong from right was decided with a competition. The only achievement Renata won was the biggest laughing stock. The boy would face constant slander every single day. Beaten in sparring by his siblings, yelled at by his father. His own mother wouldn't speak to him, as she had died before he could even lay eyes on her at birth. When he'd go outside, he was laughed at by the children around him, as his siblings didn't allow the boy to have any friends. Though his siblings were savages who wanted the worst for him, there was one who stood out to him, his older sister. She had been exiled from the family, due to her giving up her place as heir to the family throne. She was a hero to young Renata. Though powerful, she was one who cared not for power, but one who cared for oneself. "Renata lad, come with me." She says, beckoning the newly turned fifteen year old to follow her. As she leads him into a snowy cave, the woman would open a box she kept in her satchel, presenting to him a Crest. The Crest depicted an Eagle, in a blue sky with the sun behind it's head flying in the northeast direction. "I want you to take this, lad. Keep it with ye' at all times." She said to the boy. As he looked upon it with glee, he took the Crest. "I will cherish this for the rest of my life. Thank you, Aquila!" The boy says in excitement. "You know not to call me that. It's merely a title. Call me by my real name next time." She responded. As the young Renata frowned upon not being able to speak freely towards his hero, the woman felt sorry, as she was the only one who presented young Renata with a gift on his birthday. "Fine. you can call me that if you want." She says, giving in. It was a memory that young Renata would hold dear to him, he would never forget it as long as he lived, and he would honor his sister by remembering her. On the day the boy had been kicked out of his house with nothing but the clothes on his back: A boy, came from the North, A man, was shaped in the East.
