OOC : Subraces?

Hi!

Recently accepted and entirely new to roleplaying, I want to know; what is a subrace (For elves specifically)? I'm quite sure I know what a subrace is, generally, but in this server, I have no idea... first, how to join one? DO you join one? Is there a specific topic on it? These questions and more, but if someone could just explain to me what they generally are, I'd like on a general basis.

Simply small cultures within each race. Most subraces are identifiable by their appearance. Dark elves look different from wood elves, things like that.

Wonderful info, thank you, sincerely, but I also wanted to know; How do you join one? Is there a leader I should ask? Or do I simply put on the skin and the effects come naturally?

I appreaciate your help, and I'm sorry for asking even more questions, I just don't want to be OOC all the time in the server, and I thought it more appropriate in the forums.

(( There is a command in-game. I believe it's /subrace ( Enter your subrace ) . So, if you'd like to become a dark elf. I believe the command is /subrace darkelf . ))
