Out-Of-Character

Minecraft Account Name: My account name is dohvakin

How old are you?: In August I will turn 18

Time-Zone/Country of Residence: I live in Queensland, Australia which I believe is GMT+10

Do you have a good grip on the English language/good grammar?: I feel that I have a satisfactory grasp of the English language, my vocabulary may not be as advanced as someone with extra years on me but I have never had any linguistic issues with the English language and do not foresee any. As for my grammar, it is far from perfect but I try to keep it at an adequate level as I understand that correct grammar does make reading and writing easier.

Small 2-3 Sentence Description of yourself: My name is Daniel and I am a male, Australia, First year University student. I am currently in my 4th week of my Bachelor of Applied Science, which next year I intend to major in Geoscience. I have always enjoyed gaming, probably a bit too much, as I have often found myself wasting entire days on a game I will later get bored of or possibly even delete. Some of my favorite games would have to be the Elder Scrolls Series (I use the series name because too many people have only heard of Skyrim, not Oblivion and especially not Morrowind (which was fantastic)). I also thoroughly enjoy Minecraft, which I have played since back in the beta days (Beta 1.6.5) and have also started playing Star Wars: The Old Republic, though due to high server latency I’m having a break until they give me my free server transfer to an Australian Server (I imported the game because the Aussie release was 4 months after the US release).

How much time could you be on the server weekly?: This is a question I often ask myself because I know it will always be a question asked when applying for servers and it is often a difficult question to answer. In truth the amount I play can vary from 0 hours a week to up to 70 hours a week (I’m not proud of that number but I had a lot of holidays between high school and university). I guess if I was to give an average amount of time I can play per day it would be 2-4 hours, though this is heavily dependent on university as I have contact hours 5 days a week and often need to study even when I’m not at Uni.

What do you know about Roleplaying? Give a definition of what it means to you: To me, role playing is the act of putting yourself into your characters shoes and adopting their mindset. I often find that roleplaying makes some games more fun and adds an interesting element to the game, which few people bother with. Most people who role-play seem to just go straight for being some high and mighty lord or knight, but I have found its actually ,more interesting to start off low and rise up over time.

What experience have you had in Roleplaying, if any?: I have enough experience with Roleplaying to know that if even one person in a group doesn’t Role-play, it can ruin RPing for everyone, and this is something I truly hate. I have always found that the Elder Scrolls games are perfect for Role=playing, and am also a member of a hardcore roleplaying guild on SWTOR (I had to fill out an application very similar to this one to join them). I can honestly say that Roleplaying on minecraft is something I am new to, as I have never been on a roleplaying multiplayer server, but after looking at the lore and wiki for Lord of the Craft I am excited to explore the use of different races and racial capitals, along with the opportunity it presents for some good RPing.

In your own Words, define what the act of Meta-Gaming is: This is not a term I had actually heard of previously and had to Google it to find out the meaning. My understanding is that Meta-gaming is when you draw from knowledge that your character cannot possibly have access to, such as if my character tried to Fus Roh Dah someone, an act of which he would have no knowledge of as he is a minecraft character, not a skyrim character. I can understand why this is undesirable in a roleplaying game as it breaks the immersion and ruins the atmosphere.

In your own Words, define what the act of Power-Gaming is: My original understanding of power gamming was that it Is when you focus solely on a goal that usually involves maximizing certain skills, though I checked Wikipedia to make sure it didn’t have a different meaning in roleplaying communities and I now realize it does. My understanding of power gaming in a roleplaying community is when you do something against another character without giving the other character the freedom to act on their own choice, such as combat. I believe this also involves godlike characters who other role-players have no chance of interacting fairly with.

What do you expect this server will be like?: I watched a few videos on YouTube and this server looks amazing. I love the way different races have been implemented, and the way the capital cities have been designed to suit their specific race (such as elves living in the forest). I am also excited to join a server where I won’t see giant 2D Pokémon statues. I am also intrigued by the villain characters system which I feel will make for some interesting gameplay.

What other server(s) have you played on and why did you leave them?: In my day I have played on a number of different servers, none of which were roleplaying . Some of the servers died (the server literally died) and some just became inactive. There were other where I left because I wasn’t enjoying it and the last server I was on, I had been exploring for 10 minutes, enjoying myself until someone flew out of nowhere and magiced me to death, took all my gear (which was purchased with points (money)) I was given upon joining the server, and leaving me without any food or tools to play.

Have you read, understood, and agreed to the rules?: I have read the rules and they seem perfectly reasonable to me. I don’t understand how some people find simple rules like these hard to follow.

Do you promise to abide by said rules, and laws? This includes the Server, Forum, and Teamspeak set Rules: You won’t have any problems with me breaking the rules.

How did you hear about us?: I was looking up top minecraft servers and this was the one that stood out to me the most.

Have you voted for the Lord of the Craft on Minestatus? Which vote number were you?: I did vote but I couldn’t see what number I was (or I didn’t know what I was supposed to be looking for at the time).

In-Character:

Character Name: Delonna of the house of Feanor

What Race are you?: I am an elf

What Sub-Race are you? (note, you aren’t required to have a sub-race): I was born and raised as a high elf, as a member of an old yet declined house of high elves in malinor.

Biography (Please make this at least 2 paragraphs long. This must include the history of your character and his life as well as age, appearance and personality, etc.): At a young age my parents got ate by an orc…Just kidding =P… My name is Delonna of the house of Feanor. You’ve never heard of the house of Feanor? Many haven’t, but this wasn’t always the case, When I was born the house’s better years had come and gone. When I was young my pa always used to tell me about how we were the descendants of one of the greatest houses in all elfdom, that we once owned vast riches and held great influence in the high councils across the lands. I would ask him what happened to it all but he would only say that everyone’s fortune changes over time, and not everyone’s fortune improves. It wasn’t until I was a bit older that I realized he didn’t actually know.

I have tried searching for the records but couldn’t find much, and what I did find what old and forgotten, from a time when Feanor meant something. The keepers of history weren’t helpful either, they said the possibility of someone destroying the record of my house was an unthinkable prospect and they insisted I should stop bothering them. Whatever the secrets of my houses decline are, they have been lost to the pages of time, the past holds nothing but decay, so unlike the rest of my house I look to the future.

Enough about my house though, you asked about me didn’t you? Well I may have been born into a house that could scarcely afford my education, but I am still a high elf, and deserve the due respect. My parents are farmers, yes high elf farmers, that’s what I said, life has always been tough, though as much as I tried, I was just not suited to farming. It cost us a lot but I received an education worthy of any high elf and now that I have reached maturity I am planning on striking forth on a quest explore these lands and make a fortune for myself, and for my house.

What is your Character's ambitions?: I fight to remake a name for my house, so that future generations may never have to experience the hardships my family have been through.

What is your character’s favorite tool? (sword, pickaxe, shovel, etc): My preferred tool is my educated mind, and an understanding that intellect can accomplish things brute strength will never be able to, though when faced with a challenge which requires a less subtle tactic, I do have basic training in the arts of swordsmanship and marksmanship.

What is one of your Character's most skilled talents? I am talented in the art of diplomacy which I always try to use to avoid direct combat.

A screenshot of your skin (must be in proper format):

Other Information about your Character:
Like most high elves, Delonna has long ears, long platinum hair and fair skin with a golden tint to it, though growing up on a farm has made him slightly stronger and larger built than the average high elf. He is well educated and has basic knowledge of sword use and archery. Upon reaching maturity, he made the decision to leave his family’s farm and embark upon a quest for glory, valor and a chance to restore a name to his once noble house.

Open-Response-Questions

Whilst traveling from the Cloud Temple you see a small halfling, being harassed by two armed warriors. They appear to be trying to steal money from him, how does your character respond? He would first talk to the three involved people and attempt to find out why the armed men are harassing the Halfling, before attempting to reach a peaceful solution. If a peaceful solution was not possible he would make an informed decision based on the way the three people interacted with him. He would quickly realize that it would not be appropriate to jump straight to the aid of either party as it is just as likely that the armed men are guards, as it is they are thieves.

Your character wanders into Alras, and comes across a small stall, behind which a well dressed man is standing. He’s offering various wares, the merchant turns to you and says in a posh accent " 'ello there, what can I do you for today?" What is your character response? Delonna's first response would be to ask for information about the local area, and try to find out as much as he can, figuring a local merchant should be a good source of local knowledge, he would then ask where the nearest inn and library is, before looking through the merchant’s stock and purchasing any items he needs.

Whilst wandering in the wilds, your character comes across a small hut, which looks abandoned. Inside it you see a chest containing a few iron bars, and a golden sword. How would your character respond?: He would leave the iron and sword where it is. Someone no doubt worked hard to obtain those items and he will not risk thievery tainting the reputation he is trying to build for himself. Besides he is far too proud to take something for free or steal it.

Hungry and lost in the wilderness, you stumble across a small trading camp nestled among the forest, they greet you in the common tongue, how do you respond? He would waste no time before doing his best to befriend the traders and buy some food. If he could not afford it he would insist he returned the favor in the form of labor, helping them around the camp until the time he deemed his debt to be paid.

You hear word that bandits occupy the road outside the town in which you have been staying. The town guard have gathered, and are asking for assistance to help eliminate them. The leader of the party is offering a reward for any who offer their support. How does your character act on this information?: Delonna would feel obliged to try to convince the bandits to lay down their arms and armor and surrender, though if they refused he would help the guards however he could, even if it meant joining their assault against the bandits. He knows that if he wants to make a name for himself he must start out small and would see that as a good opportunity to start.

This was a beautiful application. Such a great read! I'm glad to see the amount of time you put into this application. Thank you! The joke about the parents being killed by orcs, I love it. The only part about your application I don't like is your forum name. ;) But, that'll be fixed shortly I hope. Welcome to Asulon, a Gm will implement you soon!
