Out-Of-Character

Minecraft Account Name: paladin_null

How old are you?: I am 17 years old 18 in June

Time-Zone/Country of Residence:I'm from Mississippi, in the United States. GMT-6:00

Do you have a good grip on the English language/good grammar?: I have grown up in a country where the national language is English. I keep a constant A in English class and am in the advance placement courses for English.

Small 2-3 Sentence Description of yourself: I was born and grew up in Atlanta, Georgia until my dad got a job transfer and I moved to where I live now. I love to play video games and minecraft caught my imagination on the sheer amount of versatility of its game play. I love to roleplay and have done so since I was 13.

How much time could you be on the server weekly?:between school and my extra curricular activities, I have my time set out for me, but I could easily be on for between 14- 30 hours a week or more!

What do you know about Roleplaying? Give a definition of what it means to you: Roleplaying is a wounderful thing. It allows people to adopt a new life and explore a world with many other people who have done the same. Roleplaying helps keep a level of creativity to everyday life and is a great form of making one's own entertainment. Roleplaying is like writing a book that you have control over but never know what's going to happen next.

What experience have you had in Roleplaying, if any?: I have roleplayed on several forums and my friends and I LARP all the time

In your own Words, define what the act of Meta-Gaming is: meta-gaming is the act of using out of character context that could easily be used to change how the game plays out. Much like screen peeking in fist person shooters, meta-gaming takes something that you shouldn't otherwise know and uses it to your advantage. Now sometimes meta gaming is hard to avoid but I always do my best to stay in character and keep the information I get from my charater.

In your own Words, define what the act of Power-Gaming is: power gaming is the bane of all role players. Power gaming is when you force a character to do something without giving them a chance to do anything in return. For example: if I push you down and knock you unconscious all in one move, you have no time to react and now what are you going to do? I essentially just ripped out a page from your "choose your own adventure" book so now you only have the one path to take. To make a long story short, (might be too late for that) power gaming takes the roleplaying out of roleplay.

What do you expect this server will be like?: after looking at all the rules, I expect a rich and full roleplaying experience from this server.

What other server(s) have you played on and why did you leave them?: I haven't really. I hope I can prove my worth by showing how I can weave a tapestry of a story for everyone to enjoy.

Have you read, understood, and agreed to the rules?:yes I have, and I believe the rules to this server are very well stated and will help increase my enjoyment of the game.

Do you promise to abide by said rules, and laws? This includes the Server, Forum, and Teamspeak set Rules: I do swear I will do anything and everything I can to uphold thse rules you have set in front of me

How did you hear about us?: I searched "what's hot" on the planetminecraft forums in the server section.

Have you previously made an Application? If so could you link us to your last Application?: this is my first application

Have you posted this application on our minecraft forum thread yet? If not, just finish it up on here and then copy + paste is over there. Biography (Please make this at least 2 paragraphs long. This must include the history of your character and his life as well as age, appearance and personality, etc.): Well I guess if I am to recount my life I should start at the beginning. I was born in a small town called vale, In the kingdom of merthaga. Oh my childhood was a great time! I used to walk up and down the street with the toy sword my father gave me. he always knew what I could become, even if I didn't. I was admitted to merthaga's prestigious academy for aspiring paladin's when I was the ripe young age of 15! I was the head of my class and it didn't take long for me to get my first assignment. I was sent to take down a necromancer who had set up in a near by sepulcher; It didn't take me long to find him but what he did has changed my life forever. And so it came, that I was cursed so that as long as I was in my home kingdom I would be hunted like the foul beasts I once slayed. Now, at the age of 23, I have made my way to the lands of Asulon in hopes of finding a cure to my curse.

ooc: null has a very serious nature but has been known to show a light hearted side. he has blond hair and deep black eyes. he always wears his armor and cape of his home town to always remind him of his past.

Other Information about your Character: not much left to tell at the moment.

Open-Response-Questions

Whilst traveling from the Cloud Temple you see a small halfling, being harassed by two armed warriors. They appear to be trying to steal money from him, how does your character respond? I would approach the warriors and inquire to them what they were planing on doing. If they had any malintent for the poor halfling I would have to take actions to defend the innocent.

Your character wanders into Alras, and comes across a small stall, behind which a well dressed man is standing. He’s offering various wares, the merchant turns to you and says in a posh accent " 'ello there, what can I do you for today?" What is your character response? I would peruse his wares for anything I could use in my quest. Then if I found anything that I could use I would gladly pay the man for his goods, but maybe after a little haggling.

Whilst wandering in the wilds, your character comes across a small hut, which looks abandoned. Inside it you see a chest containing a few iron bars, and a golden sword. How would your character respond?: I would simply pass it up. I'm not the kind of guy that would steal. Even if the materials were abandoned; I would rather get my tools with my own hard work.

Hungry and lost in the wilderness, you stumble across a small trading camp nestled among the forest, they greet you you in the common tongue, how do you respond? Hello fair sirs! I don't carry much money but I would be willing to help out in any way I can for some food and the directions to the nearest town.

You hear word that bandits occupy the road outside the town in which you have been staying. The town guard have gathered, and are asking for assistance to help eliminate them. The leader of the party is offering a reward for any who offer their support. How does your character act on this information?: Of course I will help! As a paladin, it is my duty to protect those without the means to protect themselves! Show me the way, guardsman, so that I can show these bandits that strength should be used to help people, not bully them out of their money.

Your story does not make too much sense.

Your biography is not substantial enough. You need to write more about your character, write more detail and more depth. If your biography is less than two paragraphs long or is a bit too short it will be automatically denied. You need to write a minimum of two paragraphs (which in themselves must contain at least five full sentences).

You need to complete the entire biography, detailing all your characters history, age, personality and description. We also like to see little role-play quirks such as habits like the constant brushing back of a fringe, or the scratching of an itchy palm.

Every single thing in your application must have a justification. For example:

John’s father taught him swordsman ship and the lay of the land. X BAD

John’s father was a retired swordsman in the Oren military, after the undead attacks and the moving to Asulon he decided it was time that he lay down the sword for more important matters, family. Now days John’s father teaches John the way of the sword, not so that he can join any particular military, but so that he can defend himself for future experiences to come. √GOOD

Currently your character is by far too powerful, or too perfect. I believe that reading this guide would benefit you greatly:

How to avoid roleplaying as a terrible character.

Your ambitions are underdeveloped.

You need to show some advanced thought processes. What would your character like to do in the near and distant futures? What is your character planning? You also need to justify your decisions. Why does your character want to do this? Things such as planning to kill all bandits, orcs, humans etc. are unacceptable ambitions as this would require a villainous activity.

Your answers to the favourite tool/best skill questions are underdeveloped.

You need to justify why you have chosen the choices you have. It is all well and good that your character can run really fast, or is light on their feet; but why?

Some or all of your answers to the Open Response questions need a lot of improvement.

Instead of describing what your character would do, you need to assume that your character is in the situation and acting as they would in that situation. You need to describe a scene of RP. This means that you cannot write “If this happens, then my character would do that.” As this shows that you are not Roleplaying, you are answering the question from what you think that your character might do. You need to show us that you know who your character is, you know what the situation is and you know how your character is going to react.

This also means that you need to write in full RP. For example:

Josh talks to the shopkeeper, buys a few apples, pays the shop keeper and leaves. X BAD

Josh walks up to the man standing behind the rough oaken market stand. The sounds of a busy market can be heard all around him. An annoying fly buzzes around his head, so he absent-mindedly begins to inefficiently swat it away. “Ah, greetings shopkeeper! I was just browsing your wares.” The shopkeeper nods at Josh and then turns towards another customer to attempt to assist them the way all market shopkeepers must. Suddenly Josh felt a slight tugging sensation on his belt. He was about to brush it off as nothing, perhaps just someone bumping into him until he realised his belt was slightly lighter. He noticed a man beginning to run off in the opposite direction of himself. He glanced down to see that his coin purse was missing. He put two and two together and then shouted at the top of his lungs. “STOP THEIF!”… √ GOOD!

We expect that you write in full RP and that you write a full paragraph or more for each question.

If you have any questions about my feedback, or would like to create some constructive criticism about the way I give feedback (I.E am I being TOO blunt, or am I coming across rude) then please send me a message! I take all questions, none are stupid! :) You are not allowed to apply again for a full 24 hours.
