Rebuilding Riven

With a groan and the bang of a hammer Winter nails another vacancy sign to the door of a home in her village of Riven. The population had been steadily declining until there was a staggering three people left who still frequented the village as citizens. The responsibility she was given and later married into of this village was slowly blowing away until all that would be left for the village would be to tear it down and merge the land with the Castle, an idea that frankly appalled her.

She looked over her shoulder to see Uthor watching Wocket, the woman who'd accepted the task of clearing the village of the forest that clung to it like a leech. "Uthor, I'm going inside, call if I am needed?" she asked as she tucked her hammer into her belt and headed for the Castle.

"I need to breath new life into this county or we could end up losing it..." Winter mused to herself as she sat down with maps, ledgers, and several pieces of architect's grid parchment.

Laboring for several hours she finally completed her sketch of Riven how it would be if its hills were devoid of buildings. Over the course of a week, Winter sweated over her drawing, making every detail she could; she made sketches of the buildings to fill their place.

Finally, she completed her plans, and now all she needed was approval from an Imperial Sanctioned Architect...

Ser Gerrard nods politely as he sees Winter nail the plans to a board in Heaford.

Walking over, he exchanges proper greetings with his neighbor, before turning to the plans proper.

"This sure looks interesting." - He replies as he takes note of the well-structured nature of the plans.

Taking his time to study the plans in detail, he then takes out a small notepad and pencil, to note down a few points of interest, while making sure to double-check the details with Winter herself to avoid mistakes.

"M'Lady has certainly put together a solid plan."

Taking more notes, then finishing off with what seems to be a quick calculation, he turns to Winter.

"I fear that complete removal of the village might well be inevitable, if not expedient.

Without the desire to thread on your plans, would you not have ample room within Riven Castle to house the remaining villagers?"

As it stands, I simply do not see the need for a village outside Riven Castle.

Having said this, if the castle would be overflowing with people, making it impossible to house then, it would be no more then natural that a village would once again spring up outside the Castle walls."

Ser Gerrard looks back at the map, seemingly pondering the situation.

"We have two tenants as it is at the moment, and the construction site has already been cleared, and Uthor would prefer to not use the barracks to house citizens." Winters says as she takes a bite of an apple looking over the plans herself.

"And if we were going to house our citizens we would have to employ them as they'd become labor, and I'd prefer to pay them for they'd sell us. In any case, we have a charter for Riven and it will be filled. Uthor is willing to pay, equip and supply your men if you are willing to accept the contract, if not then we will look elsewhere." Winter states as she leaves to head back to Riven.

Charles stands and watches the scene from one of the many balconies that line his Keep, he turns around and orders one of his pages to go and assemble his men. A few hours later Charles and the few lances he has under his watch are seen marching down from the hill side that marks the entrance to Shadow's Edge Keep, he crosses the bridge to Riven and walks up to Winter, gives a slight bow then looks up and speaks.

"M'lady I wish to offer what supplies and men I have to help you tear down and rebuild Riven once more, is there anything that you need or require to be done?"

He stands up straight and waits for her to reply.

Winter beams at her former son-in-law and offers him a seat on the bench," Its good to see you after all that's happened Charles." Winter is dressed in her long green dress and her feet are bare,"Your men are welcome to aid how they can but I'm unsure what knights would know about masonry or carpentry," she stifles a giggle trying to remain serious, " I could use a few knights if they wouldn't mind patrolling Rvien for hostile wildlife."

Winter places a hand on top of Chalres' and rubs his tired caloused hands,"How are you dealing with Rose's passing?"

Charles listens to Winter speak and chuckles softly at the notion that his men would even know how to use a hammer and nails to build a simple door, but then frowns slightly at the mention of his beloved Rose, "Its been hard on all of us, she always brought life to the cold dark halls of Shadow's Edge..." he looks to one of his men and orders him to tell the others to go out and patrol the woods of Riven, then he turns back to Winter, looking her in the eyes. "I will be fine, and she will always be in my heart, I only wish we could have spent more of our lives together." he finishes speaking and smiles weakly, giving Winter a hug, he stands back up and looks to his waiting page. "Go and get my hunting gear, I need some time to think." he turns back to Winter "Farewell and safe travels" he then walks back towards Shadow's Edge Keep, his shoulders slumping somewhat as he walks.

"We've began building, the bridge and a new addition, the Riven Vaults have been completed." Winter sends a note to every office that held her plans. "Lumbermill has been moved to another location."
