Thorenir Elendil sits at his desk in the Adunian Archives, pouring over the documents he wrote up about his race's history back when he owned Blackwood. Sighing, he decides its time to update what is written and goes ahead crossing out the old information, whilst also adding the new.

The Official History of the Adunian Race

In the years of ancient Aegis, there were no Kingdoms or cities, there were tribes and clans of Men, Elves, Dwarves, and Orcs. One on mankind's greatest tribes were the Harenites, a group of tall, strong hearted warriors led by Haren, the first born of Horen, and one of his favorites. Soon the Harenites clashed with a tribe of Elves led by Princess Sarai of Malinor. The two peoples fought for fifty years, until one day they finally made peace with one another. Weapons were thrown down, and soon the peoples of each tribe began to marry each other. The blood from the Elves and the Human's mixed, and soon the first of a new race were born that lived for an average of 180 years due to the mix of blood.

The descendants of the two tribes called themselves the Adunians and as one they created the kingdom of Idunia, one of the first civilized settlements in Aegis, where they would rule over normal men for many years. During the rule of an Adunian called Arendil, the grandson of Haren, one of the pure-blooded humans living in Idunia called Owyn Godwinson began a rebellion against the Adunians, sick of them ruling over his race. Godwinson succeeded and took Idunia for himself, killing Arendil and banishing all the Adunians from the kingdom.

Arendil's son, Elendil (Later to be known as Elendil the Exiled), led the remaining Adunians to the far north of Aegis to get away from Godwinson and his forces, whom he feared would decide to chase after them and finish their race once and for all. The Adunians went as far north as was possible, until they came to a large sea (Later named the Adunian Sea by Lord Rymeul Elendil) stretched out before them. Elendil had his people build two boats, Salvation and Haren's Voyager. After months of labour, the Adunians completed the boats and set sail across the sea, hoping to find a haven for them to settle in peace on the other side.

After a two month journey, the Adunians anchored their ships on the coast of a foreign land, and set off to find where they would settle. For another week Elendil led the Adunians across an area of large open plains, and then into a forest. It was within this forest that Elendil decided to settle, and put his people to work on creating the town that would be called Ildon (Meaning 'haven' in the Adunian tongue) and the castle that sat on the hill above the town that would be called Al'Ildic (Meaning 'the invincible') .

The Adunian race flourished in its new home and under the rule of Elendil's descendants who became known as House Elendil. Elendil's youngest and only son, Braen Elendil, became the leader of the Adunian race known as the 'Adunian Lord' and started the tradition of passing his tittle down to his youngest son, to give himself the longest reign possible. The Adunian Lord also wore a circlet called 'the Circlet of Horen' which the Adunians believed had belonged to Horen himself before it was given to his son Haren and passed down the line. Somewhere in the coming years, one of the Adunian Lords had a blade forged for himself that he named Durendal.

This blade became the official blade of house Elendil, and was passed down to the heir to the Adunian crown when he turned 17. No one is quite sure exactly which lord had the blade forged, but it is known that it happened in the time of Dranan, Rymeul, and Anmas. During Braen's reign, the Adunian Lord commissioned a group of his best fighters to start the Order of the Adunian Rangers as the sole military force of their race. This Order would serve their race for many years to come under the command of several legendary Adunian Ranger Captains.

Braen's son, Dranan, started another Adunian tradition of burying each member of the Elendil family with a crown, each made out of a single material with a gem on the front. To have a steel crown would mean that you were a brave and courageous warrior, whilst a gold one meant you were more politically minded. A silver crown would be a balance of both. A diamond on the front of a crown would mean that you were an Adunian Lord, an emerald would mean you were a military man (Most commonly an Adunian Ranger), a ruby would mean you were a gifted artisan, and a sapphire would mean you never found your purpose, but we're always willing to help others. A disgraced member of the Elendil bloodline would be buried with an iron crown with a piece of flint instead of a gemstone.

Whilst he was the Adunian Lord, Rymeul Elendil led an expedition back to the sea which his ancestor Elendil the Exiled had crossed to find their homeland. He named the sea the Adunian Sea and discovered a land bridge had risen from the sea, connecting their land and Aegis. Rymeul's grandsonson, Bethrol, later went on an expedition of his own across the land bridge and back into Aegis, where he discovered that Idunia had long since been destroyed, and the human capital was now a city called Al'Khazar in the kingdom of Oren. Bethrol came to trade agreements with the Orenians whilst on his voyage and trade routes were formed between the two settlements. This was the first contact the Adunians had had with the outside world since they had been banished from Idunia.

Over the years the Adunian settlement turned from an isolated village into a sizable city, and then into a small kingdom. By the time of Rydel, the Adunian Rangers were no longer enough to keep law and order in the kingdom, and he had his brother Thorenir disband the Rangers (Which he was in charge of at the time) and start a larger force called the Adunian Legion. This decision, which was seen as foolish by some, may have saved the entire Adunian race from destruction, as soon after this decision was made, Rydel's steward, Icarian Delmar, turned against him and attempted to take the throne for himself. This marked the beginning of what would later be called 'The Great Adunian War'.

Icarian and his followers started on the outskirts of the Adunian lands, taking villages and settlements one by one. They burnt houses, raped women, pillaged crops, and took anyone who was alive as prisoner. The women were sent to camps run by Icarian's followers where they were treated like animals, while the men were tortured and brainwashed until they too followed Icarian. In a desperate attempt to find more soldiers, Rydel forced everyone between the ages of 17 and 110 into his brother's Adunian Legion. The war raged on for 6 years, until Thorenir was able to assassinate Icarian with 7 other trained men. At the beginning of the war the Adunian race was at its peak, with just over 10,000 citizens living in the Adunian kingdom, but by the end only around 800 remained.

With no longer the amounts of citizens that required the Adunian Legion, Thorenir disbanded the organization and restarted the Adunian Rangers. The war had set back the Adunian race by centuries, but more than anything else it had affected Rydel. Rydel was a political man, not a warrior, and seeing so many of the people he cared about die before him had affected his mind a great deal. He eventually went into a state where he was barely fit to rule the kingdom. Thorenir saw this and decided to start a peaceful uprising, attempted to have his brother lay down the throne to his eldest child, his daughter Irene. Rydel saw this as an act of treason and had Thorenir's closest followers hung before banishing both him and Irene from the Adunian lands.

Luckily for the Adunians, Rydel mellowed with age and slowly became more capable at his job once more. A few years before he was going to hand down the throne to his youngest son, Aron, tragedy struck. Aron, who was an Adunian Ranger at the time as it had become tradition for each heir to spend five years as a ranger before they were coronated, was killed during a mission to clear out a cave where a group of orcs had been taking refuge between raids on Adunian farms (Durendal, which had been in Aron's possession at the time, was shattered when an Orc stepped on the blade). This left Rydel to rule for even longer until his grandson Artorus came of age to rule.

But before Artorus's time came, tragedy struck once more. The Undead threat had begun to sweep through the land from the north, and as they were further north than any other settlement, Ildon was the first place to be hit. Halboron Elendil, the eldest son of Rydel and current leader of the Adunian Rangers, lead all the combat-worthy Adunians into battle against the Undead, but it was not enough. Halboron was knocked unconscious during the battle, and without their leader the remaining Adunian forces were slaughtered.

Upon waking, Halboron found the Undead necromancers had left, but they had already slaughtered all of the people and set Ildon alight. Halboron fought his way through the remaining Undead minions to reach his house in Ildon. Upon entering, he found his 11 year old nephew Artorus mourning over his mothers body (The two had been staying with Halboron since Aron's death). Halboron took the shards of Durendal from his lockbox, throw Artorus over his shoulder (As he refused to leave his mothers body), and fought his way back out of Ildon. The two traveled for many weeks, leaving the Adunian kingdom and crossing back into Aegis. They reached the Cloud Temple at Aegis's center, and Halboron left his nephew in the care of the monks. Before leaving, Halboron gave Artorus the shards of Durendal, in hope that he one day may find a way to reforge the sword.

From there, Halboron traveled back to Ildon to see what was left of the once grand city. All he found were ruins. Halboron went into what remained of Al'Ildic where he found his father's charred body. He reluctantly prized the Circlet of Horen from the corpse before heading south to Oren, not to be reunited with another Adunian for many years to come.

Artorus eventually left the care of the monks and slowly made his way in the world as a military man. By the time Aegis was destroyed and it's citizens had voyaged to Asulon, Artorus was an esteemed military captain of the Phoenix Guard, which was the primary military force of the Kingdom of Renatus. By chance, Halboron saw a notice in the cloud temple that had been placed by Artorus, claiming he was looking for his long lost uncle. Halboron traveled as fast as he could to Renatus where he was reunited with his nephew (Who he had between as his own son between the ages of 3 and 11, as his father had been killed). Together, they planned to reunite their entire race once more, and rebuild what they once had.

After many years of tireless work, Artorus and Halboron completed building a new Ildon in Western Renatus, by which time their family had grown immensely. Many years after the time when it was acknowledged official complete, Halboron met the end of his days do to an infected wound he had sustained serving Westfall as The Lord Commander of the Westwatch.

The years pressed on and Ildon continued to grow, eventually becoming one of the largest cities in Oren. One day, Artorus and two dear friends of his came to the decision that they had grown to dislike Oren, and felt they were powerful enough to split off and claim their dukedoms independent of it. Sadly, the three were proved wrong, their rebellion being crushed swiftly by the Emperor's forces. Artorus himself was cut down by the Hightowers in combat, while his two friends were taken back to Arethor and executed. In pity of the Artorus's son Torrhen, the Emperor gifted him with the dukedom of Westfall in a successful attempt to sway Torrhen from wanting to rebel against Oren himself. The Elendil family and Adunian race continued to live in Ildon under Torrhen's rule until the last days in Asulon. They are currently spread out across the island of Elysium.

Adunian Sub-Types

-Kiavarans, a group of Adunian nobles who supported Owyn in his uprising and were so given an area of land within the kingdom known as Kiavar Mormaerdom. One hundred years after, the descendants of those earls rebelled, most being killed in battle and the remaining two being forced to flee. The two led their people to the Wyldwyn in the Moon mountains where they would come to found Lunavra. A pass called Stoney Road in the same mountain range also served as the natural north western border of Idunia. Kiavarans have light coloured hair and live shorter lives than the Adunians (To about 140) due to minimal cross-breeding with humans.

-Rhodirs, the group of Adunians (Mainly warriors) who turned on the Adunians and Arendil and helped Owyn take the throne, being rewarded with high military positions and knighthood. They were later exiled for their harsh, brutal ways of treating the cities people whom they believed to be inferior to themselves, aswell as the fact that Owyn feared they would betray him as they did Arendil. They then went on to live as nomadic raiders in southern Aegis and northern Asulon. They can have any coloured hair and have shorter lives than the Adunians and Kiavarans (To about 120) due to cross-breeding with humans. The Rhodir Karechi still live in Asulon. Aegisian Adunian Ranger Information

Origin:

During the reign of Braen Elendil, the Adunian Lord came to see that with the ever rising population of their race, he would soon need a military to keep order instead of just relying in the good will of his citizens. And so he asked his brother Cirimas to gather the most elite and loyal soldiers he could find as bring them before him. The names of these four men were never recorded, but it is know that one was of house Lorsmor, and another of house Loyola. The five men stood before Braen, all were well trained in the arts of stealth, the longsword, shortsword, dagger, and longbow, learning from their fathers and their fathers fathers who had to outrun and hide from the Rhodi and other men of Owyn Godwinson during their exodus from Idunia. Braen decided that based on their traits these five men would be known as the Adunian Rangers, and they would serve as their race's first personal military force. Over time, Cirimas and the four rangers slowly built traditions and organization throughout the order, and gained more men along the way.

Uniform

Traditionally the rangers had no official uniform, but they were told to stick to a certain code to do with what items of clothing they wore; the rangers would wear leather boots, fingerless leather gloves, a leather belt (Often accompanied by a sash), a large coat, and a cloak over the top. The coat of Cirimas was passed from Captain to Captain in the rangers, as was occasionally his cloak. All of this would be over the top of whatever other clothes they wished to wear.

Fort Arendil

The rangers lived in a large cave system under the hill which Al'Ildic stood upon, though the caves had been renovated to be more like an underground fortress. Said fortress was named after Arendil, the last king of Idunia, and was meant to be used as a fallback point if Ildon ever came under a siege that it was unable to hold off. Sadly, in the final battle of Ildon in which it fell to the undead, few managed to get to the fortress before its gates had to be shut to save those inside.

Watchtowers

As the Adunian Kingdom spread over the land, the rangers decided that they could only keep order in Ildon itself from Fort Arendil, and would have to find a way to do so in the towns, farms, and estates that surrounded it. And so watchtowers were built all over the kingdom. In each watchtower a single ranger would live along with up to 15 initiates whom he would use to keep order in the surrounding area. The garrison of each watchtower was rotated every fortnight.

Traditions

-The final initiation for a ranger was for him to be taken out into the woods where he would swear an oath of service to the ancestors (now sworn to the Adunian race).
-No women or men of non-Adunian blood were permitted to join the rangers (no longer relevant).
-An heir to the Adunian throne would have to spend five years in service of the rangers before he could become the lord.

It is often thought that is was tradition that all young men joined the rangers for several years after they turned seventeen, though in reality seventeen was simply the age where one was permitted entrance into the order, and over the time it became a popular trend to join the rangers as soon as one was allowed.

Ranks:

Ranger Captain: Supreme commander over the rangers.
First Ranger: The Captain's most trusted ranger, and therefore the second in command.
Ranger: The primary rank of the Adunian Rangers, only the most elite warriors in Adunian society were offered this position.
Initiate: The recruit rank of the rangers, most never made it past this rank.

[OOC] Joining the Adunia

There is no application to join the Adunia, nor is there a certain person you have to ask to become part of it. All you need to do is read the lore, make a character that fits the specifications of an Adunian, find a skin that fits him or her, and start playing! It is also highly recommended that you join one of the existing Adunian clans by contacting one of their members.

Specifications of an Adunia:

-Adunians live to an average of 180 human years old.

-Adunians age the same as a normal human up until the age of 17, at which they begin to only age one year for every two that pass.

-Adunians most commonly have black, auburn or dark brown hair, along with grey or green eyes.

-Adunians stand slightly taller than most humans, but not quite as tall as a norseman.

-Adunians share the elves' low fertility.

-Most Adunian men have either a mustache or beard, as it is seen as customary among their society.

-Adunians have a strong sense of tradition, and are usually rather stubborn people.
