History Birth, and the events following Xerxes was born in a very normal family. They lived in a normal house, in a normal town, with normal siblings born of normal parents. The only thing abnormal was Xerxes. Shortly after he was born, he contracted severe deformities from an unknown cause and began to form rashes and lumps all over his body. His parents were horrified and disgusted and, to avoid humiliation and shame, they sold him to a traveling circus for a small amount of minas. Xerxes lived with the circus performers until the age of 7. During this time, he learned a trace amount of words and their meanings from around the camp, but was never taught to read, write, or speak. He was a sideshow attraction. The ringmaster would place him in a cage and show him off to the crowds as the 'Spawn of the Devil'. From then on, this is what he was known as. He was cursed at, made fun of, beaten, spurned, spit upon, and generally treated as no man should for many years of his life. Finally, fed up with this life, he escaped the circus, fleeing into the woods. He lived in the woods until age 8, when he was forced to look or food elsewhere or starve to death in the forest. Eating what he could find and stealing what he couldn't, he survived on his own on the streets of large cities. He was once again spurned and hated by everyone he came within the sight of, and finally constructed a crude mask of birch wood to hide his grotesque face. The Meeting One day, when Xerxes was hiding in an alley, eating the scraps of food people tossed in, a tall masked man approached him. The man made no move to harm Xerxes, and instead spoke softly and gave him food. Xerxes had a feeling this man was not like the others, so he did not act afraid. The man said his name was Kalameet, and he became Xerxes' only real friend in the world. The two traveled to Kalameet's cave off the coast of Malinor, and Kalameet attempted to teach Xerxes to speak. It was a mostly unsuccessful effort. Kalameet gave Xerxes a new, better built mask to replace the old one as well as a set of old clothes. The clothes irritated Xerxes' skin, and so he did not wear them. Xerxes lived with Kalameet for about a month, at which time he left the cave and returned to the human lands, just before they sailed for Anthos. Anthos Now 11, Xerxes arrived in Anthos and tried to make his way to Salvus with the other humans, but was cast away and left at the temple. Desolate and hungry, Xerxes wandered around the temple until he found a nice monk handing out food. Xerxes hid from the monk to see what would happen, but the monk saw him and tossed him a sack of food. Xerxes ravenously consumed the food and approached the monk carefully, thinking he would be a kind man. With great difficulty, Xerxes formed the word 'De-rek-shun'. The monk smiled and began to lead Xerxes towards the human lands. Once the pair reached the National Divide, the monk departed from Xerxes and so Xerxes followed another pair to Salvus; an old man and an elf. Once they arrived in Salvus, Xerxes departed from them and hung about in the slums once again. Suddenly, a giant spider lowered itself from a rooftop and in its mandibles was a piece of parchment. Xerxes took and opened the parchment to reveal an image of Kalameet's familiar mask, and drawings of tall trees. Xerxes recognized the trees as those of the elves, and began to follow an elf to the land of Malinor, where Kalameet was waiting just outside the gates for him. The Druids and Transformation Xerxes met Kalameet with relative joy, and followed him into the city of Malinor, to a large tree. Inside the tree was a tall female elf. Kalameet greeted her and asked if she could heal Xerxes' deformities. She said she could not, and so called for the Arch Druid Callax. Callax came and when asked the same question, gave the same verdict. He in turn suggested a Druid named Saviticus. The female Druid thought this was a wonderful idea and sent a letter to him. The Druid Saviticus came in a few days, and Xerxes' plight was once again repeated by Kalameet. Saviticus commanded Xerxes to go and stand in a nearby stream. Xerxes did as he was told after some explaining, and the Druid followed him. Saviticus placed his staff on the ground and began to chant. Green light emanated from the staff and enveloped Xerxes. The room got dark and a great wind was felt. Suddenly a bright flash of light filled the tree and Xerxes stepped from the stream, his deformities gone. The Oussana Affair Xerxes began to mature after his transformation. In a physical sense, he grew taller, his hair grew, and his eyes became more colored. His dedication to his goal also grew exponentially. One day, as he passed through the gates of Malinor, he spied a group of elves in the corner. He eyes them with a look of disgust and continued on his way. One small elf followed him however, and introduced herself, saying her name was Rathina Oussana. Xerxes attempted to dismiss her, his patience failing as his anger rose. She, however, would not leave him. Finally, Xerxes turned and stalked off into the forest, as if beckoning Rathina to follow him. She did, from a distance, and the two reached a spot on the wall shaded by surrounding trees, the tall towers, and the night sky. Turning suddenly to face her, he beckoned her closer. She refused, but instead offered him a slice of melon to eat. As she moved closer to give it to him, a pair of travelers walked past. However, when Rathina turned to look at them, Xerxes flung a dart at her. The sedative took effect quickly and he pulled her limp body into the shadow. Binding her, he began to torture her. Beginning with the left hand, he drew five lines from the center of the palm to the tip of each finger with a long skinning knife. Moving to the right hand, the sedative began wearing off, causing Rathina to feel immense pain. Finishing this hand, Xerxes selected a long needle like knife from his vest and began to write the word 'Xerxes' on Rathina's forehead. Squirming and crying in pain, Rathina writhed on the ground. When Xerxes had finished his work, he injected Rathina with the sedative once more and removed her bounds. Finally, he dragged her to the road and left her there. However, eventually, the girl's father found out. Prince Khel. More to be added as his life progresses. Artwork ((This is Xerxes before his transformation.
