  1. AN ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE HOSPITAL OF ST AMYAS Regarding the Appointment of Surgeon General Tov and Yermey, 3 9 7 E.S In this official announcement, endorsed by the Crown, the leadership of our Hospital of St Amyas will turn over to make way for new capable physicians. Her Royal Majesty, Emma Karenina, has served her tenure as Surgeon General and sees it only fitting that the mantle should pass on to Adrianna Darkwood, to serve as the 11th Surgeon General of Haense. Furthermore, Princess Petra will retire from her position as Deputy Surgeon General with the Queen. In her place, Raden Decaden will be appointed. It is the hope of the Crown that these two will continue to serve the Kingdom to the best of their ability, embodying their roles to the fullest capacity. SIGNED, His Royal Majesty SIGISMUND III by the Grace of Godan, King of Hanseti and Ruska, Grand Hetman of the Army, Prince of Bihar, Dules, Lahy, Muldav, Solvesborg, Slesvik and Ulgaard, Duke of Carnatia and Vanaheim, Margrave of Korstadt, Rothswald and Vasiland, Count of Alban, Alimar, Baranya, Graiswald, Karikhov, Karovia, Kaunas, Kavat, Kovachgrad, Kvasz, Markev, Nenzing, Torun, and Toruv, Viscount of Varna, Baron of Esenstadt, Kraken’s Watch, Kralta, Krepost, Lorentz, Rytsburg, Thurant, Venzia and Astfield, Lord of the Westfolk, Protector of the Highlanders, etcetera.
  2. Emma wrapped her shawl around herself tighter. She hadn't left the sill of her chambers for the entire night, hadn't so much as moved a muscle from her place overlooking the Hippodrome, and the surrounding gardens sprawling beneath the Nikirala Palace. Her expression was void of emotion, cheeks reddened by the morning breeze as it swept over the Kingdom - so different than it had been the previous evening. She hid her hands, still shaky, underneath the folds of her skirts. Even with the gentle coaxing of household servants, or the calls from family and friends, the Queen remained staring out into the distance, watching the sun rise over a watery horizon.
  3. [!] Here, a depiction of Herman striking a pose was attached to the poster. GIRLFRIEND WANTED: CRAB EDITION For Herman, the Nicest crab in town! [!] This missive would be posted under every door in Karosgrad, sent off in birds to neighbouring nations, and pinned to each and every pole Emma could find. All in the hope that somewhere, a lady crab would be Herman’s perfect other half. It would read as follows... “I think we can all be quite honest in expressing that no one deserves to go through life alone. Each of us needs someone to love; to share our thoughts with; to be allowed to cry on their shoulder. And that is why, to try and help poor Herman the Hermit Crab out of his grump, I have decided he needs a girlfriend. It is his greatest wish! (And, besides, we’ve tried practically everything else to cheer him). After conversing very briefly with him, we have produced a list, describing his attributes. - He is terribly handsome and strong. - Herman allows very special people to paint his shell all kinds of colours, so it is always polished and shiny, and thus he always looks his best! - He isn’t grumpy all the time. - Herman knows a good few cracking jokes - he is truly the life of any party. - As far as hermit crabs go, he is a great listener. - You wouldn’t have to worry about money: Herman has multiple homes and beach resorts, even, to spend the rest of his days living in. - Herman isn’t getting any younger. He’s maturing quickly, and knows that the next stage in his life is commitment. - Herman is career-minded and driven. Please send a bird to the Nikirala Prikaz if you know of a lovely lady crab who would be interested in making Herman’s days just a little bit brighter.”
  4. THE ROYAL VASSAL TOUR 3 9 3 ES In light of the soon-approaching coronation of His and Her Majesty, this missive declares that the pair will embark on their official Royal Vassal Tour in the coming months. It is asked of each landed peer of the Kingdom of Hanseti-Ruska to prepare for the couple’s visit: perhaps a tour of the keep, and then ample opportunity at a feast or luncheon setting to converse. Here, the Crown encourages each vassal to express any concerns with Their Majesties, opportunities, or plans for the future of the Kingdom. The vassals will be toured in the following order; The Duchy of Valwyck, residence to the House of Baruch The Duchy of Vidaus, residence to the House of Ruthern The County of Reinmar, residence to the House of Barclay The County of Jerovitz, residence to the House of Kortrevich The Viscounty of Aurveldt, residence to the House of Amador The Barony of Otistadt, residence to the House of Ludovar The Barony of Richtenburg, residence to the House of Mondblume The Barony of Ghaestenwald, residence to the House of Morovar Specific dates and times for the Royal arrival will be decided upon on a case-by-case basis with each house patriarch.
  5. THE ANNIVERSARY OF INDEPENDENCE Ea byk zwem zanyotsk ter ea byk denpetravesk “I would have perished had I not persisted” The Kingdom of Hanseti-Ruska’s independence has been detailed in many history books, recounted from parent to child for years, and illustrated in grand paintings, as an event which marked a new beginning for the Dual Monarchy. Here we stand, one Saint’s Year after independence has been won. To celebrate this occasion, a ball shall be thrown within the Nikirala Prikaz. Guests are very welcome to don the Kingdom’s colours - those being black and gold, for the Barbanov line. Red and black, for Ruska, and white and black, for Hanseti. There will be plenty of drink and food for those attending to indulge in, as well as traditional Haeseni dances and games to partake in! It is highly recommended to practice one’s Renatian shuffle skills. As per the request of some of the Queen’s Council, there shall be a booth of flowers - able to be bought and addressed to someone special, anonymously or not. If you wish to show someone how much you care, there is no better time to do so at these joyful celebrations! Signed, Her Royal Majesty, Emma Karenina of Jerovitz, Queen-Consort of Hanseti and Ruska Firress, Iantha, Event Collaborator of the Queen’s Council ((OOC)) Tuesday 21st, 5pm EST @ The Palace!

  8. The Royal Wedding 2nd of Gronna and Droba, 390 E.S [!] A painting of the wedding ceremony between Prinzen Sigismund Karl Barbanov and Lady Emma of Jerovitz. Under the watchful eye of GOD, and all in attendance, it pleases the Crown that His Serene Highness, Prinzen Sigismund Karl and the Lady Emma Karenina of Jerovitz will be wed, surely telling that a prosperous future is to come. For both the Countal House of Kortrevich, the Royal House of Barbanov, and the future of the Kongzem. The couple extend invitations to all to partake in the wedding festivities - including the Haeseni festival, Barovifest, in the weeks to come. I. BAROVIFEST Day One The Festivities of Barovifest And so it begins, commencing with the traditional ‘Day of All Souls’ holiday. At this Haeseni festival of ancient import, barricades between castes are discarded. It is of no matter if a man is born of a blacksmith or a King, for all are equal under the eye of Godani. All will come together to commemorate our bonds and kinship. The two-day festival will begin with the burning of a great pyre, before such gaiety dissolves into raucous celebrations around central feasting tables, stalls, and games. The traditional Crowns of Chamomile can be constructed and exchanged by partners, as a sign of love and devotion. Shogging Tournaments Due to the popularity of the Halfling game, shogging competitions will be held, available for guests to challenge one another. Two contestants have to balance on a log and try to knock the other off - last one standing remains the victor! The Harutopolta Within the palace kitchens, the cooks and servants have been thrown into a flurry of activity in preparing the dishes for Barovifest’s feasting tables, adjusted to the Prinzen’s and Lady Emma’s preferences. Observing tradition, the Harutopolta - a great food fight - will see to it that no leftovers go to waste. Babushka Trail By the brilliant hand of His Excellency, Ser Casimir Colborn, a twisting scavenger hunt has been set through the streets of Karosgrad and the surrounding gardens. Babushka dolls have been especially hand-painted and prepared by the High Justiciar, then hidden, for the delight of those partaking in the hunt to find. Each doll found may be kept by their finder. During the festivities, the beginning of the hunt will be announced by His Excellency, and the first clue distributed! (Tuesday 7th September, 4.30 EST) Day Two The Grand Joust of the Grand Arena In honour of the upcoming Royal Wedding, letters have been distributed throughout the kingdom, inviting all who feel they are worthy to the newly-built arena in the city. A fearsome jousting tourney shall take place, where the champion shall win a prize of 100 mina, and runner up will receive 75 mina. (Wednesday 8th September, 5.30 EST) Barovimnuesz, the Mass of All Souls Hosted by His Holiness, High Pontiff Everard VI, a church service will be held in the Basilica of St Henrik. This holy day will begin with paying thanks, and praying for continued close bonds among the Haeseni populace, while confessions will be offered by the clergy for those wishing to confess their sins or seek advice from those who have devoted their life to Godani. (Wednesday 8th September, 7.00 EST) II. PRE-WEDDING EVENTS An Exhibition of Jewels Delving into the vast history of the Kingdom, Lady Emma will be presented with a series of artefacts and jewellery, laid out by Her Majesty, Queen Annika and her ladies. Each tiara, gem, or pendant has been drawn from the Royal Archives for the Lady to pick which she will don on her wedding day. Her Ladyship wishes to open the showcase to any jeweller, or citizen around the Kingdom to put forward their own contribution, presenting it at the exhibition, or offering their own jewelled wares in gift to the to-be-Queen. Any questions regarding such, contact Queen Annika. (Thursday 9th September, 4.30 EST) A Lover’s Chase Stemming from an old Haeseni tale, couples will gather in at the gates of Karosgrad at the entrance of the city. The ladies will be granted a headstart, as they race into the farmlands and surrounding woodland. After waiting a few moments, a secondary horn will go for the men to give chase- seeking out their match. Once couples find one another, and the chase is up, they will make their way back to the Palace and be rewarded with a feast! Guests, along with the betrothed couple, will play all manner of fortune-telling games. (Thursday 9th September, 5 EST) Bachelor Celebrations In a bid to proclaim a final farewell to unmarried life, Lady Emma and Prinzen Sigismund will host their respective parties on the eve before the wedding. Invites are open to friends or anyone wanting to wish the couple well. (Friday 10th September) III. WEDDING & RECEPTION Within the Basilica of St Henrik, underneath the eye of Godani, the pair shall be wed. All are welcomed to the city of Karosgrad to witness such an occasion and join the couple in celebration. It is the wish of Lady Emma that her nieces: Lady Vasilia, Lady Emelya, and Lady Viktoriya Kortrevich, will be the ceremony’s three flower girls. The congregation will continue with HSH Princess Petra Emma, and Lady Eleanora Amador as the two bridesmaids before the bride herself makes her way down the aisle. It is then that the congregation will lay eyes the gown, assembled by the expert hands of Lady Maisie d’Arkent. Succeeding the ceremony, the guests will be lead into the Nikirala Prikaz, where a jovial feast will be laid with all manner of refreshments and food. All in attendance are warmly invited to mingle, dance in the ballroom, and present the newlyweds with gifts. 10. With the newly-distributed missive splayed out on the table before her, Emma perched on the edge of her chair - having not quite been relaxed for some hours now. Herman, her most favourite crab, scuttled to and fro across her palm. She indulged him with a pat or two, before planting a kiss onto the grumpy creature’s shell. Her attentions on poor Herman were short-lived, however, as her ears were soon assaulted by the endless chatter of her nieces and nephews, who had run into the room, and she was subsequently tugged up from her chair to join in with their games!
  11. The Curriculum Of The Clinic For Burgeoning Medics Within the Hospital of Saint Amyas Written upon her ascension to the role of Surgeon General, by Lady Emma Kortrevich These lessons are not necessarily in any particular order - it is up to the medics themselves to decide which they want to partake in, or feel they lack knowledge of. Any physician in training can ask for one of these topics to be covered in the next lesson. Nor are classes simply limited to these topics! Teaching physicians can decide for themselves, as long as their students are capable medics by the end of their apprenticeship. Once an apprentice is deemed ready by the Surgeon General themselves, they will undergo a final written test. If successful in this endeavour, the new physician may swear their oath and join the clinic as a fully-fledged member of staff. I. The Foundational Basics For medics at the very start of their journey, these basic skills are set to be practiced countless times over their career. It is important to understand all aspects of patient and clinic care in order to run an efficient and clean space. In this lesson, students will go over the pointers of patient care, how to maintain professionalism in stressful situations, and develop good bedside manners. Not only that, but students will also learn of clinic ethos - how to write up patient reports, keep equipment sterilised, and maintain a clean working environment. The clinic should be available and open at all times, as to be able to treat all they can. Aftercare will be another focus, evaluating treatment throughout time and recommending courses of action for the betterment of the patient in question. Not only that, but the basic equipment and tools medics use on a daily basis will be covered! II. Treatment of Cuts and Wounds Students will be taught how to treat cuts of wounds of varying sizes - staunching blood-flow, sterilising and cleaning the wounds, extracting debris, then dressing them to promote healthy recovery. Teachers will go over the basic performance of suturing, as well as cauterisation - once these classes are concluded, the students may perform these tasks independently, without supervision. III. Herbs and Botany In everyday life at the clinic, physicians use various herbs and remedies in salves, soups, teas, to aid in patient recovery. It’s essential for students to recognise the herbs, understand their uses and dangers, and how to give them to a patient. Students will learn how to prepare the plants and make various salves. However, a more entertaining aspect of botany is the opportunity to go herb hunting! Field trips through Almaris will take groups of medics to gather herbs of their own - promoting independence in their studies and an opportunity to learn in the physical environment. IV. Additional Core Knowledge: Burns, Frostbite, and Head Trauma A medic must be able to call upon their artillery of first aid knowledge at a moment’s notice throughout their career. Thus, aspects like burns, head trauma, bruising, or other cases which might be prone to stumbling into the clinic on a daily basis will be covered. Students will learn how to assess and diagnose the patient, how to treat burn victims of varying intensity, how to treat frostbite cases, and how head injuries might impact the patient. V. Broken Bones Being one of the more common injuries a young physician might encounter, students will be taught how to reset breaks and fractures, how to apply a splint around a limb, dislocated joints, and the healing process of bones. Every medic should be comfortable with the familiar sound of cracking bones by the end of this class! VI. Emergency Procedures: Stab Wounds, Resuscitation, and Poisoning Critical emergency procedures such as stab wounds, from weapons or arrowheads, will be covered in this lesson. Students will be taught the difference between styles of arrowheads, the impact of the shape upon damage to the patient, and therefore the method of extraction. Students will learn to remove the arrows, then treating the injury as one would a normal wound. Another aspect of emergency procedures covered will be resuscitation, as well as how to detect the symptoms of a poisoning, the types of poison possible and how to treat such. After the lesson has been taught, apprentices are trusted, as always, to perform these procedures independently and learn for themselves. VII. Pregnancy Students will be taught how to advise and aid the pregnant couple, with a variety of soothing teas and concoctions to ease discomfort. They will learn how to examine the child’s health, as well as the mother’s, in early months. Midwifery will be covered. Then, once the child is born - post-examinations will be taught. All in the aim to ensure a healthy and safe delivery. It is recommended that apprentices work as an aid to a main Surgeon in their first delivery, before trying their own hand. VIII. Amputations Another emergency procedure... and not one for the faint-of-heart. Students will be taught how to properly perform amputations, using the proper equipment and method, in the effort to make the procedure as easy as possible - for both patient and medic. A further note: the clinic will try to organise further enrichment in VOCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES whereupon our apprentices will try their hand working within other clinics, as a temporary resident, throughout Almaris. If a student would be interested in this scheme, they are to contact the Surgeon General. A Further Specialisation: Combat Medics There are further lessons available to all, combat medic or not, who wish to prepare for more emergent scenarios physicians face. I. Battle Triage A quote, taken from an old High Elven scroll regarding Battle Triage: ‘It is unethical for a physician to persist at all costs, at maintaining a life of a patient beyond hope, thereby wasting to no avail scarce resources elsewhere.’ This class will teach how to select between casualties, based upon a few factors. We begin Combat Medicine with this class, as it sets the tone of the main essence of the role - being that time and resources are limited, therefore you can not help everyone. It is hard to get to grips with. However, to make it fun we will give scenarios and act out situations for the students. II. Primary and Secondary Assessments Primary and Secondary assessments such as these are methods used daily by many physicians upon treating a casualty, and diagnosing their injuries. They have been adapted, and made shorter and more efficient, for the purpose of the battlefield. They serve as a crucial way of assessing a casualty’s state, allowing physicians to triage the patient, as well as try and patch their injuries on the way. III. Transporting a Casualty These lessons will evaluate different environments or conflicts medics might find themselves in the center of. Apprentices will learn how to approach a chosen casualty, then begin the task of transporting them away from the danger to somewhere treatable, using the holds and methods taught! Again, to make it fun, we will elect fellow physicians to play the casualties each time. IV. Military Training and Experience Unlike other medics who wait in medic tents by the side of the battlefield, helping haul injured soldiers up and into the hospital after conflict, combat medics play a role in the center of the action. It is essential that a combat medic is a competent fighter, so it is recommended that they join the BSK to learn weaponry, collaboration, and discipline. As for experience, although intimidating, the clinic encourages these young combat medics to seize advantage of every conflict or battle. After all, true experience is the most exciting way to learn. At first apprentices will stick beside a more experienced soldier, before branching out on their own - all the while under the watchful eye of a more experienced medic. It is a true test of capability of balancing the wounded, navigating a battlefield, whilst remaining alert. SIGNED, Her Ladyship, Emma Karenina Kortrevich, Surgeon General of Hanseti-Ruska Her Serene Highness, Petra Emma Barbanov-Bihar, Deputy Surgeon General of Hanseti-Ruska If you wish to enrol as an apprentice, or join the clinic as a physician, or have any questions - contact the Lady Kortrevich. Or the Deputy Surgeon General, Her Serene Highness, Petra Emma.
  12. Emma Kortrevich, on a brief break from practicing her speaking in front of her mirror, glanced downwards at the missive in her hand. "Eirik sure read a lot of diaries..." She frowned at that, then kicked hers into a hidden spot under her bed where he wouldn't find it. @Gusano
  13. Emma Kortrevich, mid-crab hunt, smiles at the thought. "Ea'll bring Herman along." She mutters to herself, pocketing said hermit crab.
  14. A TIME FOR MOURNING It is with a heavy heart that House Ruthern pens this official announcement, disclosing the unfortunate death of the Duchess-Consort, Lady Fenika Lichte Ruthern, neé Morovar. We must trust in Godani’s timing, that it is always right, and we pray for her safe ascent into the Seven Skies. There is some cause for bittersweet celebration, however, as the loss of the Duchess accompanied the birth of His Grace, Ailred var Ruthern’s second son, named Grigoryi Demitrius. The family asks for others to respect their privacy at this time. A small memorial service will be held in Vidaus’ chapel for family and friends at a later date. SIGNED, His Grace, Ailred var Ruthern, Duke of Vidaus, Count of Metterden, Viscount of Greyspine, Baron of Rostig, Lord of Druzstra
  15. A JEROVITZ DEBUTANTE Debuting Not One, But Two! In recent weeks, the house of Kortrevich has experienced multiple triumphs. First and foremost, The Right Honourable Lord Jan Kortevich and his wife, Lady Tatiana Kortrevich have brought a healthy baby boy - heir to Kortrevich's future - into the world. Vladrik Otto Kortrevich. This fortunate event coincides with the fourteenth birthday of the Count’s youngest sister; Lady Emma Kortrevich. And so it is decided! A grand celebration will be held in the Kortrevich keep of Jerovitz - marking one girl’s transition from child to adult, and another child’s very first months. There will be plentiful food, drink, dancing and games for the guests to enjoy. A WARM WELCOME The celebrations will commence with a speech from the Komit himself - offering welcome and thanks to those guests. All in attendance will raise their glasses to the newly-born heir, Lord Vladrik Otto, and to the continued health of Lady Emma as she surpasses this milestone on her way to adulthood. THE PRESENTATION OF THE WREATH Continuing on a recent tradition, Lady Kortrevich shall receive a wreath of her chosen flowers for their meaning. Orchids for fertility, lilies to symbolise purity and innocence, and carnations to manifest good fortune for the future. This wreath of white and pink, presented to the girl from the women of House Kortrevich, will act as a physical representation of all they wish for her, gifted upon this special day. LET THE DANCING COMMENCE! To initiate the dancing - Lady Emma and her Hausar, Lord Jan, will take to the dance floor to participate in an edition of the traditional father-daughter dance. Once completed, the floor will be open for anyone wishing to dance! It is also wished by the Komit that those in attendance explore his new keep, Jerovitz, as to enjoy it in its entirety. WHO CAN GET WASTED FIRST? [& OTHER GAMES] Party games and drinking will ensue, with the winner of said drinking contest winning boasting rights and free alcohol! Other games and entertainment opportunities will include an Apple Bobbing stall where, if you’re lucky, you win a Fortune Telling Shell! There will also be a Herman Appreciation Station. To appreciate Herman. 16. A ROSE WITHERED The Death of Rosalind Amador de Astrea The distant creaks of brittle bones no longer resonated in the palace halls of Karosgrad. High-pitched squawks, akin to a yelping crow, no longer sounded in the morning. Cobbles of dust lined the handle to the office of the Grand Lady. Dwelling inside were vast webs spanning left to right and the light of any lantern dwindled to nil. The constant and spotless reflection of her mirror no longer shined into the eyes of the courtiers. That famous fraud for a dulcet titter masked by inner envy was heard by no more. It was only a few weeks since her high-heeled tapping echoed against palace flooring, as she sought out her unlucky palace sod of the day. Her servants alas had soothed ears. They found they had more time. No longer did the Grand Lady yap and yelp and order them about for her own trivial conveniences. Was the city quieter, more peaceful, perhaps? Or was it just… aching without her presence. That’s what Lady Rosalind would’ve thought at least. It begged the question; where is the Grand Lady? Or better put - Where is Rosalind de Astrea? Her bones creaked at every pace, but somehow and for some reason, a face of one of her old friends sought that she hike out into the woods of the eastern parts of Hanseti-Ruska. Witnesses spied the pair leave, and neither one of them were not known to be the most demure of figures. So not a word else was thought of it, save for a spry arch of a curious brow. Nothing more, nothing less. Into the woods they delved regardless, the Grand Lady and her cynical ambivalence caught at least one concerned memory. Something was off, she knew it, and despite her ambivalence she carried on her trek, while a memory fluttered her mind; Time passed too quickly for her liking. She would give anything to return to her youth - oh! To be sixteen years old again; lithe and glowing with burgeoning adolescence. Rosalind recalled those initial weeks, having returned to New Reza... the prattling box of a carriage that brought her home, the uproarious tavern she took pains to avoid, and the first friend she found in Prince Franz Leopold. He was untroubled, then. Much like herself. Her thoughts ordered themselves as the memory of his room assembled in their swimming shapes; the wooden curve of his desk, the corners of his bedsheets. Franz had donned one of her old dresses, pairing it with sparkling jewellery and a few pumps of perfume. There he stood, admiring himself in the large mirror. Rosalind collapsed into a fit of giggles upon seeing the strange sight, and promptly declared him the prettiest girl in the world. Indeed, the dress was too small for the taller boy and tugged and pulled taut in all the wrong places, yet it became him still. His youthful visage had grinned back, retorting with a witty remark that seemed oh-so-foggy to her now. Perhaps her memory was failing her. Her pensive frame passed. It was just a memory. They traipsed out of the woods, past vast Haeseni farms and to a towering keep, which beheld her admiring eye over a second. She had expected at least a glass of wine from the keep’s confines; it was right, so she knew. Instead, her skirts remained hiked as her to-be adversary brought her along to a lakeside just over the horizon of the holding. They had stopped at the bitter lakeside, from where they were at the mercy of the winds of the waters. Their talk turned from idle gossip to that of grave depth. At the dawn of that latter depth, cracked a smile from his seemingly warmed lips. It took her back; The shrieking wind morphed into a distant lilt of ballroom music, as a mirroring smile graced the lips of Ser Alric in his youthful form. She remembered the exact dress she was wearing - seeing as she’d selected it especially for such an occasion. Layers of silk and chiffon in that beautiful blue shade, matched precisely to the brocade shawl she had slipped off upon entering. It was their moment, the turning point of time. Their eyes had caught for years prior to that dance, but nothing had ever sparked from their initial desire. Still, it felt to be sickly, as their special moment was enshrouded by the unfaithfulness of the pair; Visant was away, and Alric’s wife, Vespira, gawked from the sidelines, eyes staring a hole into the dancing duo. Rosalind, basking in such attention, tilted her upwards and flashed those pearled whites of hers. Alric was hers - an accessory to wear on her arm - parading him and herself to crowds of gossip. Even now, once recalling his smile, she supposed it was of the above average sort. Not as nice as hers, naturally. Rosalind soon found herself lamenting, scrutinising such a memory... if only his face could have been preserved in that instant, during a particularly raucous bout of laughter. Then, perhaps, her last memories of the man wouldn’t be so spoiled. Having been soured in that memory, it brought the Lady back to the light of reality. In turn, alike the memory, the real world around her turned embittered; sour. A smile turned to a glower. Happy memories of the two shared together turned to something far sinister. Rain as if it were called, poured down. From a high to a low in the snap of an eye, it sunk her heart to the pits. Minutes passed, the bodeful figure now un-slouched loomed over, towering above her both physically and in words; her soul was irreparable, told he. And it all clicked, for Rosalind would appear to always be in idyllic, imaginary fields of daisies. But now she was grounded in her reality and his intent. The hiss of a sheathe and a flash of a sword revealed, that hiss banging in her ears; Another memory. A prolonged carriage-ride home the lady had spent hunched over, body wracked with sobs. Her bald head felt like a freshly dealt wound of the gravest kind - no, it was the worst she had suffered, she was quite sure of it. So she wept. In the carriage, up the drive, even before her own mirror. Collapsing in a heap of skirts, Rosalind, between sniffles, had stared at herself. Stared at the kohl running down her cheeks, stared at all the glaring imperfections she could now see. Forlorn tears dripped down the bridge of her nose, as the Lady locked herself away. First it was Visant who came. He knocked, spoke comforts through the cracks of the door, his voice wobbly with emotion at seeing her in such a shell-like state. He was sent away. Next came her youngest, Adalia, who cried and cried. Analiesa had hit her head in the altercation and was being tended downstairs. Rosalind couldn’t comfort the girl any more than she could herself. In a fit of crescendoed rage she smashed her mirror - picking up the pieces thereafter to eye her distorted self, only to feel her heart leaden and fresh tears spring. She sobbed for hours, then days, refusing to emerge from her rooms until the wrenching grief would pass; if it ever would. What brought her back was the delayed pain that never quite hit. She daren’t peer at her sopping dress, dripping in her own colding blood and rain from the bleak clouds above. His whisper echoed, his sword remained stuck and the bibs of blood ruined her dress - oho - she thought, my dress! It had been one of her favourites. The gurgle of the sword’s withdrawal from her wound seemed to have come after she dropped to the ground. Words discarded, gasped through the agony, almost lost in the rain; “I’m sorry.” “It’s alright.” Nothing made sense - it was like seeing thunder prior to its vicious snap of sound after. But there she lay, pooling blood from around her body, embedding it into the ruffled ground of mud below. She yearned for more memories to flood her mind, to drown in swimming images and happier echoes, anything to strive off the claustrophobic jaws of death, soon enclosing. It was a strange feeling that befell her next. Rosalind felt herself rise - expression frozen in anguish as she looked down, seeing herself sprawled beneath her in such an ungodly fashion. Both hands fluttered to her gut, fingers probing the smooth material for evidence of the deathly injury. There was nothing. No pain. Godani, she was never one for the sight of blood, yet there it pooled around the Rosalind beneath her. Did she really look that old, that… tired? The shrieking wind continued to bully her killer as they stood over the body, panting. Perhaps they murmured something, but it was soon swallowed by the harsh breeze. She found herself in an odd distant state from everything, an omniscient watcher, punished to remain shackled to a dreary world. Anger seethed through her at the thought. Cold didn’t prick her skin into goosebumps, nor would heat soothe her aches. Distant laughter rang within her ears, accompanied by the steady beat of a shovel digging up wet mud. Turning from the scene, her once-again youthful face crumpled. She didn’t want to listen anymore. That was to be the end of Rosalind. Her dreams of dying were known; to be mourned for deeply. For everybody to care about her disappearance. Yet it took weeks for anybody to even bat an eye. She wasn’t a good woman. She wasn’t a bad woman. Perhaps she’ll be stuck between the skies above and the hells below for eternity. Her end was muffled, just like the shallow and unmarked grave that her rotting pile of flesh and bones found themselves to be in. One might call it poetic, that her burial be so shallow, so insignificant, a twisted form of irony in the bitter end... Even this shallow justice compares not to her killer. Much was not told in her passing. It is doubted anybody should care enough to find out. It was only Rosalind Amador, after all. Rosalind Amador de Astrea [320 ES - 380 ES]

  18. Monthly Player Appreciation May 2021: Misstoni In months previous the Haense community was really blessed to have a number of individuals that need to be properly appreciated publicly for the work they’ve done for the community. As @GMRO and I have taken over this tradition, we wanted to first give credit to the person who put a lot of effort into the community, Misstoni. Misstoni has been a constant figure in Haense for a long while creating various culture posts to widen Haense’s history like her work on Haeseni fashion! She’s a fabulous skinner, as well. Toni has hosted events for the Kingdom, including running our Hidden Chest challenges every week. Her dedication to Haense is awesome, as she often can be found hopping online earlier to provide great roleplay. Even now she’s taken up a new role as the Surgeon General on Princess Katerina, continuing to provide interesting opportunities inside the hospital. Additionally to her role as Surgeon General, Misstoni was the High Seneschal on Ingrid Barclay! During her time in the role, she helped to settle people into the city that she had helped to decorate. As for a personal message from us both: we believed you deserve this first month’s dedication, due to you leaving the tradition to us. Whilst we can only apologise that we’re playing catch-up, this month’s for you! @MissToni

  20. THE LADY OF HANSETI-RUSKA The competition of a lifetime ~~~ “With lustrous hair like shining pearl And a smile upon her sculpted lips She passes a comb through flowing curls And to my lute she sways her hips We watch the sun go down at night The last rays upon her perfect face Yet the beauty of the final light Is nothing to her perfect grace In her hand she takes my chin Oh in her presence, there is naught amiss! I feel the softness of her skin As she blesses with me her lover's kiss” By Aleksey the Younger ~~~ The Lady of Hanseti-Ruska. Records of poems and scripture in our archives detail such a woman - how beauty, respect, charisma, and steadfastness all play a part in moulding such a dobry figure. These pieces have existed for generations, prizing such values in Haeseni women. In the Naumariav language, the title is written: “Ledi Haense”. She is someone to be loved by her Kingdom, and by all who meet her. Someone to uphold our values and traditions, embodying the very meaning of being Haeseni above all else. Within the ballroom of the Nikirala Palace, a grand competition will commence. Girls will begin vying for the esteemed title of Lady Haense - the one voted the most beautiful, most talented, and most charismatic girl in all of our Kingdom will acquire such a title. Any woman can take part regardless of age or status for we must search the lands for our perfect Lady. As for prizes: the winner, naturally, wins the most sought-after title of the Lady Haense. Alongside a silver circlet headpiece which will be passed down through future successors, and becoming Queen for the Day. This honour entails dressing in Queen Annika’s dresses, taking on her duties as a monarch, and being addressed in all the royal titles and so on. Quite the fun day to boss people about! There will be two runner up titles, with those contestants winning a sash and a brooch commemorating their victory. There will be three judges for this competition, soon to be announced. The competition will contain three rounds. I. The Haeseni Round Each contestant must try to wear aspects of traditional Haeseni dress, donning their house colours if they wish to. They will stride forward up the throne room, under the critical eye of Her Majesty. With this being the introduction round each person must make a small speech containing such introductions: perhaps a hobby, certain dispositions they possess, or something that illustrates why they, above all others, are deserving of the title of Miss Haense. Tuesday, 5pm EST @ Throne Room II. The Ruskan Round This round will take place in the Karosgrad Academy Theatre, whereby each contestant will don a traditional Ruskan look, or have certain Ruskan elements to their attire, and perform their talent onstage. The judges will be watching, and rating such, making notes of how each contestant performs and behaves. So girls, prepare a talent to showcase to the Kingdom! Thursday, 5pm EST @ Karosgrad Theatre III. A Showstopping Finale The final round of the competition returns in the square of Karosgrad, where, under the eyes of the public, each contestant will don their most extravagant ball gown - one they are proud of, to dazzle the watching audience. Aptly named the showstopper, do not feel you have to hold back. Here, in this final round, each contestant will be asked a question or two: regarding Haense, perhaps, or a random topic to express your opinion upon. Time to think on your feet, and look fabulous while doing so! At the end of this round, the judges will turn to the audience, asking for their opinion - here is an opportunity to voice your favourite contenders for the position! Saturday, 7pm EST @ The Square Signed, Her Royal Majesty, Annika of Astfield, Queen-Consort of Hanseti-Ruska Her Ladyship, Rosalind Amador de Astrea, Grand Lady of Hanseti-Ruska Pen your applications to become the Lady of Hanseti-Ruska below. 21. A DUCAL CELEBRATION In commemoration of the granting of the Duchy of Vidaus to the House of Ruthern , a ball shall be held. [A painting depicting a prior ball at Greyspine, circ. 360 ES] Couriers race around the Kingdom, each carrying invitations stamped and bearing the Ruthern seal. Preparations at the Duchy of Vidaus were well underway - delicious smells wafted from the Duchy’s kitchens, accompanied by the constant pitter-patter of servants racing down newly polished floors. As guests and fellow vassals arrive at the keep, his Grace, Maric var Ruthern, and his Duchess-Consort, Caroline vas Ruthern, shall commence the festivities with a speech to express thanks towards their supporters. They will speak on the extensive history of House Ruthern and its brilliant future ahead before inviting their guests to indulge in feast and jubilance. Following such, the dancing and gaiety will commence! Attendees are invited to take a spin on Ruthern’s ballroom floor or drink themselves merrily by the hearth of the feast hall. In reference to House Ruthern, it is encouraged that all guests don the house colours - those being grey, black and red. It is to be a night of revelry, marking the beginning of Ruthern’s dukedom. All are welcome. Signed, Her Highness, Fenika Lichte Ruthern Her Excellency, Tatiana vas Ruthern, High Justiciar of Hanseti-Ruska
  22. Lorelei picked up the missive at her desk, scanning it over with a quick nod. Then, stretching out her arms, the elfess grinned over to Maeve @Mady - who was lounging on a nearby chair. "It's about time these valah start to fix what they have undone. And by Larihei, I'm itching for a good adventure."
  23. [!] From her desk at Greyspine, Fenika pens a letter to Ailred, totally on time for the mail drive - perhaps thought lost at the bottom of the trunk, seeing as he would receive it late... Ailred, @biggestdon I hope you remain safe and well in the Attenlund, and return home soon with plenty of stories to recount for my amusement. Godani knows I have many to tell you. Weddings and celebrations have passed, trolls have attacked, people come and go. Yet Haense remains much the same, save for your gaping absence. Your sister ordered me to pen you this letter after the siege of last saint's day - containing news I have kept quite to myself. I am, fortunately, with child. Something I only discovered weeks into your expedition. Worry niet! We are all safe and happy here - your family has seen to that. I pray for your safety, and that you might be home in time before I come to full term... it won't be long now. I await your return, love. - Fenika And another letter follows. Papej, @Gusano It has been far too long since we properly spoke last, even when you remained here in Haense. When you get back we will have much to catch up on, I'm quite certain. Stay safe, da? Otto is fine, although perhaps overly attached to those trolls we fight, Vasilia and Franz fare well - Gustaf too, as far as I can perceive from his letters. I pray for your quick return! - Fenika

  25. FENIKA LICHTE NO MORE MISS NICE GAL Pictured: Fenika Lichte’s video essay on how to be an Alderwoman, 372 ES. ARE YOU TIRED OF A SOFT DUMA? Well, Fenika Lichte Ruthern née Barbanov is the candidate for you. Fenika Lichte has throughout her life proven herself to be helpful, loyal, hardworking, and best of all, cool. But she’s tired of the softness in the Duma, she thinks the Duma has gone soft. It’s all voting “Da.” not enough debating, and certainly not enough voting “Nie!” Fenika Lichte supports the Sense and Sensibility legislative policies of her father, the former Grand Maer Franz Leopold Barbanov, who has tragically retired after five terms as Maer, though his experience and competency shines through in his daughter. Fenika believes debates in the Duma need to be harder, go tough on bills, and stop passing nonsense filler bills that don’t change a damn thing! BUT WHAT ELSE CAN I EXPECT? Fenika Lichte is a very well-rounded woman, and I don’t mean that in the physical way (though, her husband Ailred may concur with the statement in such regard too). She’s got big plans, and she plans to implement them as soon as possible! She is also very comfortable using legal jargon in everyday life. I object! FENIKA’S POLICIES INCLUDE (BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO): 1. Protecting the people - Increase self-defense legislation! 2. Implementing Chivalry Values into the Haurul Caezk! 3. Reforming the Duelling Legislation to make it more honourable! 4. Honouring Haeseni Heroes - especially Sir Viktor Kortrevich! FENIKA LICHTE - NO MORE MISS NICE GAL (This message is brought to you by Barbanov & Baruch Consulting)
