“Virtue and Vice”

     The morals and values of a person are what makes them unique and what makes the person, a person.   The idea of what is morally ‘good’ or ‘evil’ to one person, may not hold true to another.  Regardless, one is never more true than the other in a complete and total absolute. 

Morality
“To be virtuous is to live by your morals and to allow a well-ordered mind to direct you”

Virtue.  A belief that one’s ideologies are what is moral, fair, and true. 

     There are many standards of life that can be seen as universal truths of sorts.  Morals that anyone can agree is right or wrong, good or bad.  Most can agree that murder is bad.  Lying is wrong.  Punishments must be fair and just. 

     Our morals and beliefs are what begin a foundation to who we are; without them, you have no true motivation for doing what you believe is right or wrong.  You’d go about life having no goals or dreams, no wants for things to change.  Our morals ground us.  

Immorality
“Why do we kill people who kill people? To teach them that killing people is wrong?”

Vice.  Immoral, evil, or unfair beliefs or practices. 

     Some vices can be as simple as smoking, drinking, gambling.  Others can have worse consequences on your relationship with others like lust, cheating, vengeful thoughts.  Most can agree that you could add traits like greed, self-serving, and pride or stubbornness as well. 

      Whether they’d like to admit it or not, everyone has their own vices and virtues.  A bit of evil and a bit of goodness.  The morals we are grounded in are what motivates us, and most often they are locked and formed around things or those we love.  If you truly love something, you’d do anything to protect and keep it, even if it means doing things that others may see as immoral.  Just like our morals, our vices center our actions.  Without a compass of what is right and wrong, our views of what is ‘good’ become skewed and are no longer validated. 

The Hypocrisy of Right and Wrong

“No punishment of the unrighteous has ever been too severe in the eyes of the righteous”

     As people, we have flaws.  We all find a way to excuse our mistakes and actions.  We even tell ourselves one thing is bad, yet we do it anyway.  Some say lying is wrong, but a white lie here and there is helpful and just.  We justify our vices with our virtues. 

     Justice must be served one way or another, but the punishment one receives can be seen as equal to one, and more or less to another.  ‘An eye for an eye’ some say, but is equal punishment as honorable as mercy?  It’s difficult to forgive and forget, but in some cases that is the best course of action.  If you kill the killer, does that make you any better?  One’s virtues and vices are what make them humane, whether right, or wrong, or not.

The Clerk’s Office is NOT currently taking applications for new stewards in the City of Providence. 

Taxes:
The prices for each property are in set tax brackets, indicating how much you must spend to keep ownership of your property. Failure to pay these taxes will result in your property being reclaimed by the city again. 

Tax Brackets: 
A : 30 mina
B : 40 mina
C : 50 mina 
D : 60 mina
E : 80 mina
F : 100 mina

These prices are set in place and non-negotiable, the only way you may receive any sort of tax exemption is to join the Imperial State Army (ISA), this will allow you a fifty percent tax reduction on one (1) property you possess. 

Open Housing: 
    In an effort to help current residents or arriving visitors have a better idea of pricing within the city, as well as properties currently for sale, we at the Clerk’s Office have decided to also list all the current properties for sale within Providence. Please bear in mind that this list will not be updated until the next issue is out, so one of these houses may be sold by the time you ask about it.

    There are some current laws set in place in regards to the expansion of homes within Providence, including the addition of basements and exterior changes. By issue of the previous Lord Mayor of Providence, subterranean expansions of a home or property are illegal.

Hiring Clerks for the City

The Clerk’s Office is currently looking to hire new stewards for the City of Providence. As a Steward for the City of Providence, you are expected to be active and consistent with your job, as well as reliable. We will only be accepting a limited number of new Clerks, not everyone will be offered the job so if you are hired we expect the best from you.

The job as a City Clerk for Providence entails selling houses to new or current residents, assistance in maintaining the City Ledger, as well as assisting the Head Clerk and their Deputy with placing eviction notices throughout the city when needed. The salary of a City Clerk is commission-based, earning you five mina per property you sell.

I would really like to see how Annabelle's future and character changes to be completely honest. I don't have any clear goals set out atm, that's something I've been thinking about OOCLY, and something she's been working out IRPLY. I would like to see her explore more things in the world of Almaris though, to open her perspective on different things and communities, whether that be her finding she does or doesn't like them. 

If you look at my application, Annabelle was my first persona, and yes, I had a different plan for her from the beginning. 

I'll link the App. if you're interested lmao (please ignore the horrible skin too lmao) 

My original plan for her was she would be this char that travels to different nations so she could learn stuff ig, but that obviously didn't happen. I did explore around a little with her, but when she came across Helena at the time, she was welcomed and brought in to settle, so it's just been where she ended up. She has stayed because of what she has accomplished and been able to do during her time there, and what she continues to try and do even now!

I don't have any long-term plans for her rn, just gonna let her be a kid. BUT, I am thinking of having her host a small little event soon 👀
