my character would close the book he was reading and say "i beg your pardon.". then the well dressed man would ask again and he would say i am here for adventure and the chance to make the world a safer and nicer place, as he is saying this he would turn back to his book and continue walking down the street.

"adventure thank you for asking" I say in a nice tone, I can see that you just want to get rich, and with that I turn away from him and walk down the bazaar hoping to sell some treasure I had found. i turn back to him after accouple feet and say but that is not a bad thing unless you take your greed to far.
