The following are all found commonly in the Dwarven Kingdom, or occasionally as a foreign import in a non-Dwarven pub.
Grayhammer Select Ale
Aroma
Low to moderate malt aroma, generally caramel or toasty toffee-like in nature with a light buttery character. Low hop aroma. Quite clean.
Appearance
A deep amber color. Clear. Off-white tan colored head.
Flavor
Moderate caramel or toasted toffee flavor with a buttered toast-like quality. Finishes with a light taste of roasted grain, which lends a characteristic dryness to the finish. No major flavor from hops. Low hop bitterness. Medium-dry finish. Clean and smooth. No fruit flavoring.
Mouthfeel
Medium-light body. Moderate carbonation. Smooth. Moderately attenuated (more so than most ales). May have a slight alcohol warmth.
Overall Impression
An easy-drinking pint. Malt-focused with an initial sweetness and a roasted dryness in the finish.
Paragon's Porter
Aroma Rich malty sweetness containing toffee, nutty, deep toast notes. Moderate scent of alcohol. Moderate flavoring reminiscent of certain dried, dark-colored fruits. A darker malt character that can be described as deep and chocolaty or coffee-like but never burnt. No hop or sour aroma. Very smooth.
Appearance Opaque dark-brown. Thick, persistent tan-colored head.
Flavor As with aroma, has a rich malty sweetness with a complex blend of deep malt, dried fruit flavoring, and alcohol. Has a prominent yet smooth roasted flavor that stops short of burnt. Mouth-filling and very smooth. Clean lager character. Starts sweet but darker malt flavors quickly dominate and persist through finish. Just a touch dry with a hint of roast coffee or chocolate. Malt has a toffee and nutty complexity. Light hints of dried dark fruits. Medium bitterness from malt and hops, just to provide balance. Medium-low hop flavor.
Mouthfeel Quite full-bodied and smooth, with a well-aged alcohol warmth. Medium-high carbonation, making it seem even more mouth-filling. Not heavy on the tongue due to carbonation level. A slightly higher alcohol content than most brews.
Overall Impression A Paragon's Porter often has the malt flavors reminiscent of a Dwarven porter and the restrained roast of a traditional porter, but with a higher alcohol content than either. Very complex, with multi-layered flavors.
Blackpeak Stout (King Omithiel's Favorite)
Aroma Coffee-like roasted barley and roasted malt aromas are prominent; the Blackpeak Stout has a slight chocolate, cocoa and grainy secondary notes. No flavorings added. Low hop aroma.
Appearance Opaque jet black with a thick, creamy, long-lasting, tan-colored head.
Flavor Moderate roasted, grainy sharpness, medium hop bitterness. Dry, coffee-like finish from roasted grains with an unsweetened chocolate character in the palate, lasting into the finish. Balancing factors include some creaminess and medium flavor.
Mouthfeel Medium-full body, with a creamy character. Moderate carbonation. For the high hop bitterness and significant proportion of dark grains present, this beer is remarkably smooth. The perception of body can be affected by the overall gravity with smaller beers being lighter in body.
Overall Impression A very dark, roasty, bitter, creamy ale.
