[COMPLETED] Asulon Novella Competition
Trazier replied to Neri's topic in News & Announcements Archive
Freya, does this have to be a short story? Would it violate the spirit of the competition if I threw down an epic with chapters and subplots and stuff like that, or should I try to keep it 'novella' sized if I decide to submit one? -
The Defense Of Salvus: Somebody Work With Us Here
Trazier replied to TheLoopyCoopy's topic in Asulon Roleplay Archive
I think I met this fella the other day. He was accosting everyone in the city saying it was a law not to be armored in the city, and demanding everyone's gear, which he said he'd return when they were ready to leave. In reality, as soon as a distraction (server restart) presented itself, he vanished and I never saw him again. I wasn't stupid enough to hand over my gear, but I saw at least 3 people who were, and as he was calling himself a peacekeeper, even in deception, as a travelling merchant, I didn't find it to be my place to inform the people he was robbing that the actual posted law only says 'no helmets'. -
Just a head's up, you got some screwballs imitating your guardforce. There was one there the other day (late night/early morning american, so many people weren't around) calling himself a peacekeeper and demanding everyone he met give him their gear 'for safekeeping', and as far as I know he kept it all himself once a distraction (server restart) took place.

Sounds interesting. Hope it works out for you.

But if it costs 500 minas to even enter hanseti to look around.....

Every time i've travelled to the hallowed mountain (8 of 8), i've found it empty, desolate, barren of even one dwarven soul to talk to/trade to/buyfrom/whatever. I've tried at all hours of the day (RL, as my times shift, I been there early AM american time when 30 people are on, i've been there early evening american time when 250 people are on), yet still I do not see anybody. What happened to the legion that crafted the place? Is the whole dwarven population stuffed behind the doors and gates that read 'dwarves only'? (Closest encounter I had with a dwarf was when a new one soulstoned to the outside of the place as I was leaving and was lost and starving, so I threw him some bread and cookies)

What Do You Want To See From Renatus?
Trazier replied to 。◕‿‿◕。 Hawk Whitestorm's topic in Asulon Roleplay Archive
*offers up the suggestion that structures not be built with a fatal death-trap being the foundation upon which they build up from* *glaring look at the gatehouse* ((can't help but notice this is the first thing you did with Galahar too, install gatehouse, install deadly trap in gatehouse)) -
A Note To All The Nations Leaders ( Except Renatus . )
Trazier replied to Yamnothere's topic in Asulon Roleplay Archive
So everyone (except renatus) is invited to come, with up to two guests, to this place to discuss something, where they will all be expected to surrender their weapons upon arrival, while some other guard force stands over them with their weapons? You call it a way to avoid bloodshed, I see it as a big way to invite it. Definitely sketchy. -
Well, I helped save 'im once at the temple when he was all burnt up, an' he never remembered me afterwards. I'll light a candle later for 'im or something.

(Are spectators allowed? I ask because I found the gauntlet interesting, but could never do anything with it myself. I tried a couple times on aegis, but the 5% of my cash I lost when I failed was like, higher than the prize, then there was the failing the first jump twice thing. Here on asulon it's 20% of your cash. I definitely don't want to lose 20% of my money for something I know I have not a snowball's chance in hell of passing through. Spectating it would be fun though)

I love the little keychain/charm things. Too bad the tools only came in iron :)

Your Thoughts On "travel Distances" ... ?
Trazier replied to Deleted User 009's topic in News & Announcements Archive
I keep hearing this argument everywhere, but i've yet not been able to put a boat in an ocean. I build one at the temple at one of the many workbenches (or one of the ones along the road to the elven docks) and when I arrive, boat goes in water, and off I go. Haven't had a problem thus far... -
Your Thoughts On "travel Distances" ... ?
Trazier replied to Deleted User 009's topic in News & Announcements Archive
I didn't even know hunger was fatal. I was under the impression it stopped at half a heart. I've also seen umpteen adjustments to it that had it stop at half health, kill before, not kill, back to half a heart, etc. I actually like the new distances. If you ask me, what breaks immersion, are the nitwits who continue to sprint-jump everywhere just because it moves %15 faster than normal sprinting. Imagine someone running the 100m hurdles... ...okay, now imagine that same person, running like they're in the hurdles, down the street during every day life...... Does it look stupid to you yet? I wish you'd go and code the hunger drain on sprint jumping to be 20-40x what it is now, so people use it for when it was intended; navigating obstacles and such, not 'hay imma walk a lil faster by jumping everywhere'. I love the map size, I even think it's a bit small in some places, because I can still travel from the temple to any of the human kingdoms in 1/4-1/2 a night (which is like 5-7 minutes) just by sprinting, so I don't think distance is an issue. Problem is people love their instant gratification. They want to walk out the temple, cut down the first 5 trees they find, diggy a little hole, diggy a big hole, find some iron, make some tools, find some diamonds, then rule the server after being on it for 10 minutes. They don't understand the concept of waiting or skill levels or travel times or whatnot. Some people you just can't please. If they want an 'easy' server, they should go join one of the carebear creative worlds where the only RP is 'afk brb I R Peeing real fast'. Please, a thousand times over, DON'T DO THIS. That was a well documented glitch with soulstones back on aegis, the cooldown resetting if you logged in. Everytime I heard on ooc "I'm lost" "Well use your soulstone" "I can't it's on cooldown!" "NPNP! Just log out and log in, it'll work fine!" "KK TY!!! :)" I wish I could've spawned a pool of lava and teleported both the characters into it for such flagrant bug abuse. And when you tried to tell them it was an exploit, they'd say "Lol no it not! If it was it be coded not to work that way!!!" Now it's coded to not work that way. LET'S LEAVE IT THIS TIME!!! -
I was takin a few screens and they had to step in front of the camera, so to speak. I wasn't going to bother redoing it, because a tourist is a tourist no matter the location, yaknow?

I found an un/underdeveloped spot outside the temple, down the road a bit. It's not too near anything except the little refugee/tent thing nobody can use, would be easy enough to build a little road to it too. If this isn't suitable, what other stuff should I look for in a spot?

I think that players SHOULD fight with minecraft mechanics, but I think it should be agreed to upon before hand, with emotes.. Player1 *shoves the man away and draws his blade, aggression clearly written on his features. Player2 *begins to draw his own wea *Player1 attacks* Player2 dies because he took 3 hits before he could erase his text and draw his weapon. I think player1 should HAVE to wait until he saw an emote from player2, maybe unslinging his bow and nocking an arrow, before he could attack. That way BOTH players understand violence is about to take place, and they get to start off more or less on even ground, squared off against each other. Back on aegis I was on the receiving end of a couple "DIE MORTAL!"s by undead, and one fella who was performing some kind of trial to become undead, comes up to me and says "Hey I have to tell you something" I ask what and he goes "I must kill you IN THE NAME OF IBLEES!" and i literally had 1/10th of a second to read what was typed before I was killed. All my brain could register is 'you're taking damage' 'person in front of you said a lot of stuff and most of it was in CAPS, might be bad' before I was dead. I felt that was total bullshit on all occasions. Towards the end though, the undead became more interesting, and '1 liners' became a thing of the past. Now that we're past the time of 1 liners, how about we cross into the future, where both sides have to agree in such a fashion, that combat is about to happen, or even not. Say player1 makes the aggressive emote, player2 can't just take off down the road, but if they didn't want to fight, they could type up an emote about fleeing, and then do so. I think if those became rules, PVP would become much more friendly to RP, and I prefer it that way anyway. Who likes just killing the other guy? It's fun to sling a few verbal insults before the bashing gets underway.

The Discovery Of Cells As A Medical Breakthrough In Asulon.
Trazier replied to Stiria21 -'s topic in Asulon Roleplay Archive
Because this is a middle-ages type place. Back then, there was no science, there was just the church. The church said all kinds of crazy ****, and if you disagreed with it (or worse, you proved it wrong) you were branded a heretic, and oftentimes killed. To answer your specific question though, there's no cells, because cells haven't been discovered, because we don't yet have magnifying glasses/microscopes. Keep in mind what medical research was back in the day. They believed people had 3 fluids in them. Blood, Yellow bile (bile today), and black bile (diahrea today). A sickness could be caused (so they thought) by having too much of one or not enough of another... so oftentimes the answer to a problem was, just cut them and remove some blood, so then there will be more room for the black bile they're squatting out all over. In reality, they had a stomach parasite or dysentary or something, and losing a lot of blood on top of it just exacerbated the situation. -
And the sad thing is, if you're dressed in tattered clothes and starving and you tell them that you don't have that kind of money, they just meta your account balance and then say then know you have it. I read a ban report from luiginova about a victim who killed him while he was RPing a robbery and he got attacked mid-emote and so lost.... but in his 'evidence' screenshot he even shows himself /money-ing the guy to see how much he had before robbing. Stuff like that is just absurd. If /shop and /sneak can be removed from the game, why not /money person? Would it break the ability to just /money and see your own balance or something??? Shitty RP, that's where.

I disagree with references being REQUIRED, and X number of them too. A lot of decent villains (I've met a few, and i'd consider myself one as well) don't often show their darker side due to inadequate RP opportunity presenting itself. This means someone (using me as an example) who might murder in the defense of another, or who might in a spot of panic, loot a treasure chest and run away from a monster encounter(without sharing it with the group, some of whom might be hurt/worse), would not have many golden opportunities to display this side of themselves, so would not be able to produce the number of REQUIRED references... ...this would further become a problem I think, as the only people who'd have enough references, would be the people ALWAYS being evil ALL the time to EVERYONE. Let's be honest, even a bandit likes to wind down and take a few days off and hang out at an inn drinking and being merry on someone else's coin, but they might be OOCly thinking "I need more references! Have to show more people I can be evil!" I just don't think that would lead to good villainy, but that's just my opinion.

Will do. Honestly originally I was like 'gotta build a base, gotta start a spot, gotta get some wood n' stuff'. But then the monks opened up the public farm/logging camps/hovels, and I saw how MASSIVE the world was (spent 5 hours wandering around the wilds west of renatus and north of the elflands and had a blast) and i've just been... if you can believe it... busy having fun RPing with people and basicly doing everything BUT looking for a place to put this, heh. I love the monks and the temple though. It's been so much fun I don't know how I took a week off back when the server pop was 265/150 and the non VIPs were getting upset about not being able to play, so I decided to let 'my spot' go to someone else for a while, and I came back when the limit popped back up to 250/300. It's tough to not get stupidexcited with all the potential for fun and exploration out here.

I really think that mod/addon should be banned. The one that lets you hotkey equipping gear in your 4 armor slots so you can do it in the blink of an eye. That's an anti-hero. A hero would arrest someone, bring them to the local constabulary, and trust the good justice system to take care of everything else. An anti-hero maybe knows all about corruption in the courts, and instead decides the person guilty, and the sentence is an immediate execution.

This, a thousand times over, this. They even meta their asses off. I was looking at a ban report (Made BY a villain) where the victim fought back, and IN the screenshot, is the villain using /money on the 'victim' and then demanding 1/3rd of their minas, then 'knowing they could pay it'... What...the...F--? I miss the unique villains. Everyone's a bandit or a thug, and even though villains are supposed to be deceitful and untrustworthy and all this other ****, they somehow MAGICALLY (through forums posting/ooc means) meet up, become fast friends, then form a guild of villains, so NOW they just run into situations with SIX people in FULL diamond armor... that way they can rob EVERYBODY and NOBODY can stop them. ...what happened to the thing in the VA where it says the object isn't to win every single f'in time, but to instead increase roleplay? It's more like min-maxxing rollplay to me. Get a bunch of people, get a bunch of powerful gear, then go around murdering everyone and never get killed again. Congrats, you win LOTC *roll eyes* I also think there need to be more anti-heroes too. I'm one of what, 2? 3? I don't even know if they play anymore. I'm actually a NICE GUY, unless I find you accosting an innocent or murdering a civilian, then I get incredibly violent really quick. I've literally only had like 2 or 3 chances to use this, and they were (so far) all in aegis. Here in ansulon, they're just so predictable. You see 4 people with diamond swords and axes walking towards you, you can either 1: just run the other way, 2: wait for them to arrive, and know it'll be 'minas or ur life', or maybe your gear, or your armor.... then you give it to them and it's 'can't let you live to alert the authorities!/remember who I am!' so they kill you anyway. So you don't give it to them... but what're the odds of one person in leather/iron gear, taking out 4 people with diamond armor/gold weapons? Bravo...Bra-fuggin'-vo. ~T P.S. Is there any way you can alter the poll somehow? It's grey text on a grey background, unless you left-click+drag over the text to highlight it (and everyone might not know this) you can't see the questions.

The skin is acceptable, and we had a lil discussion about the other things. Welcome to Ansulon.
