  5. Appreciate the kind words, man. There's a strange beauty on Lord of the Craft that's hard to capture with words. Most games feel like a product that's made to be experienced. LotC, on the other hand, is fundamentally chaotic - you are one person in a sea of thousands over a decade. But once you've gotten over the fact that you're not the destined protagonist, you discover something that far surpasses a programmed plot. You poke the world of Lord of the Craft and it pokes back. You're a nobody in the beginning, but time allows you to truly interact with the world in a way that no game allows. And sooner or later, you might find your name written in the history books. People aren't used to this kind of freedom. They aren't used to being able to create an incredibly detailed character only to fully interact with other characters - to live through the world others have made, and to create adventures of their own. We're a tiny corner of the roleplay niche, but it's hard to find what we have elsewhere.

Changed Status to Under Review Hi there! As you can see, your app is almost ready! Just a few changes you need to make, but don’t worry - you are doing great! Your Character Biography is missing some lore references! Please remember to include at least one! These can be major events, wars, religion, etc. Here are some links that may help you find some! https://wiki.lordofthecraft.net/index.php?title=Arcas https://wiki.lordofthecraft.net/index.php?title=Races https://wiki.lordofthecraft.net/index.php?title=Nations_and_Major_Charters Your Character Biography is a bit short. Please include at least 6 sentences. If you don’t know what to add, I recommend thinking more about your character’s backstory. Where are they from, what were their parents like, why are they how they are…? Your Character Descriptions are a bit lacking; I recommend adding some more detail! Try to use complete sentences to describe what they fear most in life, what they want to be and aspire towards, etc. Think of it like a complex character you'd find in a book or movie. This'll help you once you're on the server & roleplaying. Your Roleplay Scenario Response is too short. Try and incorporate "quoted dialogue like this", as well as third-person exposition, much like the kind of writing you'd find in a fiction book. You’ll be given 24 hours to correct the changes above. Once you are done correcting, please contact me! Whenever you are done, or have any questions, feel free to message me via the forums, or in-game with /message Treshure! 15. Yup! new players automatically spawn at the island.
  16. I don't see why not. /places is the Wandering Soul's best friend, so they can easily navigate outside of Tutorial Island, or we can provide an extra command to do so. I'll add it to the docket. That's a great idea. One of the things I like about this model of islands is how modular they are. We can totally add in an island that explains nations, the flow of roleplay, etc. We can even incorporate map art that shows city overviews, for instance. Also on the docket.
  17. What is Tutorial Island? Tutorial Island is the first area that new players enter once they are whitelisted on Lord of the Craft. These islands are an opportunity to learn the core fundamentals of the server before new players enter Almaris. They also tie into the upcoming Player Retention Plugin, offering a intuitive experience from start to finish. The Islands run through the following aspects of the server, • Chat & Emotes • Soulstone Pillars • Vortex Gathering • Shops, Auctioneers, & Banking • PvP & LWC Locks • Genesis Integration Tutorial Island is split into different “demo” islands, where each island allows the players to interact with a core aspect of the server. Tutorial Island is designed to be modular, so that we can add or remove core aspects of our server as time progresses. All of the text on Tutorial Island either appears in front of the new player or in their chat box. All of the instructions are intended to advise the new player on how to interact with the plugin rather than explaining through exposition. New players can learn some of the core commands of LotC, such as summoning a soulstone. New players can also get their hands dirty by practicing resource gathering on the island. Here we find a new player interacting with Tutorial Island in the wild. The new player will face a portal at the end of their walk through Tutorial Island. Currently it will warp the player to the Nation Hubs, but when the Genesis Plugin is released, it will automatically integrate to then show them the most popular current settlements & begin the guided quest from there. Why the Change? One of the new player experiences that we wanted to address in light of the Player Retention Report was the state of Tutorial Island. The concept of Tutorial Island was introduced in Athera and then reworked over the years. It began simple. It was a chain of islands with a clean, straight shot to the end. If a new player wanted to sprint jump towards the end, they could. But it still had most of everything they needed to know. This began to change over the years. The islands were made to be very aesthetically detailed and to contain much more information. This philosophy has unfortunately outlasted its utility. Our previous Tutorial Island was based on an NPC system - we had many NPCs with paragraphs of dialogue and instruction each. The Island was also free to explore - it was just as easy for a new player to wander off into the Island’s jungle as it was to stay on the path and slug through pages of text. We didn't think this was very straightforward for new players. In the everlasting quest to make a more effortless experience, we decided to revamp Tutorial Island. Want to see it for yourself? Head right after leaving the main Cloud Temple grounds. You’ll come across a balloon with a warp to the Tutorial Island. You can exit through the Hubs warp at the end of the island. Credits This project could not have been done without help of the fabulous@WestCarolina. She built & furnished every single island and helped design the demo experiences around them. Additional cudos to @BathRugMan, @6xdestroyer, @Malaise, and @Minth_11 for extra building help around the project. @Chronics is my one and only Safety™ tester. Superb salutations to @nickrocky213 and @Llir for integrating the Vortex demos, porting over the Tutorial Island world, and making sure everything doesn't fall apart. That's all for now, folks! I'll see you in the next one.

  21. Personal hot take. The level of depth you go into the roleplay really defines the immersion of any niche RP, medical roleplay included. This by no means that fluff equals depth. Both parties have to be equally engaged in the act - if I'm wounded and things are just happening to me, I have no choice but to sit and watch you type out paragraphs. I really like the attention to nuance that you mentioned, such as different cultures having different procedures for healing. A lot of meaningful change can come about if we view this as a niche of roleplay to be respected rather than dealt with after an event or battle. For instance, I heard about the aftermath of an event in Luciensberg where wounded soldiers were shuttled to the medics in an absolute disaster of a scenario. They weren't quickly healed and sent home - it was a gruesome ordeal that had roleplay consequences for the foreseeable future. Much of that begins with the depth of what you're roleplaying, and how much you can own your personal space of the medical niche. A good place to start would be with a guide. Include medical terminology, but make it appropriate for the magical/medieval context of the world. Incorporate different healing practices into this, such as holy magic, druidic magic, and even plain old medieval solutions. Give it the depth that it deserves. The rest comes after. Here's a guide I've admired for a long time. Good place to start.
