Full Name: Vaelan Tercalion, affectionately called "Vael"
Current Age: 25 years of age
Sub-race (if any): A Northener.
Past / History (include childhood, major-events, etc. 2+ paragraphs long):
Vaelan was conceived and born in Arethor, capital of the Holy Oren Empire, to a guardsman and an innkeep. When he was still an infant, however, his parents moved the family to Westport where they struggled economically. His father, Sable Tercalion, took it upon him to teach the ways of the sword to his son while his mother taught him courtesy, history, sang to him and told him tales of knights and maidens. He was instilled with a deep moral fiber and a sense of honor, to which he strictly adheres to 'till this day.
Sable was slain in by a drunkard and his mother took it upon herself to teach Vaelan that while men could be cruel, hating one's own kind could be poison to the heart. Such fortitude of spirit deeply influenced the young boy. When he came of age, he kissed his mother and their humble household farewell and he made his way to Arethor to make a living out of his father's lessons.
Ambitions for the Future:
While he would state being a guard or a soldier would suffice, his heart's desire is to one day be a Knight, swearing an oath to be true to the Empire and to carry the title of "Ser" with honor. Even small men can dream big, he was always told. Serving the Empire in the most honorable and noble way possible...even if it may mean dying for it.
Personality: While at times he may be perceived grim, adamant and prickly, he has a strong adherence to honor, an iron-clad covenant with morality and true to his word. He greatly upholds friendship as the truest of covenants among men.
Skills: He has been taught basic archery, but he's particularly bad at marksmanship. He wields a sword with some skill, having been taught swordplay from a young age. Vaelan has also helped his father when managing and repairing his armor and equipment while his innkeep mother has taught him how to cook basic recipes.
Appearance (this must include an in-game screenshot of your skin): Dark-blonde hair, natural, flowing down past his chin. He has storm-grey eyes beneath bushy blonde eyebrows. He has a scar over his left eye, straight down the eyelid. His attire consists of a blue cloak, gold-trimmed with boiled leather and a grey tunic beneath. A thick leather swordbelt hugs his waist while heavy gauntlets cover his hands. Any other details you wish to share about your character: Open-Response-Questions Each question in this section must be answered with a minimum of one paragraph which must describe the event in full. Please be as descriptive as possible and do not break character or lore at any point. ____ 1. Whilst in the mighty human capital you notice a dark-clothed figure stealthily making his way towards the Emperor’s palace - he is clearly up to no good. There are guards within shouting distance - what do you do?
Answer:
Taking a second to alert the guards, I pursue the figure to the best of my abilities. I would call out to him, in the unlikely event he would stop to be captured, while running after him with the intention of stopping him. The objective would be to discover his identity and intentions. Stealth is the tool of evil-doers. 2. Whilst wandering in the deep oak forest you come across a large clearing, in which sits a small cobbled cottage. Outside it stands an unstable old man armed with a small iron blade, surrounded by two heavily armed bandits - they appear to be threatening him. You are armed with leather armour and an iron longsword, how do you react? Answer:
Unsheathing my blade from my belt, I call out to the bandits who are clearly holding the man for his valuables. I ask them, kindly, what their business is with the old man. In the scenario where they threaten me or further threaten the old man, I would challenge them to combat. It is our duty to aid fellow citizens in need, specially against those that would harm the smallfolk. 3. You are standing within the mighty human capital when you notice a small man standing behind a colourful stall. You approach the stall and notice that the man is selling a variety of general goods - he says that he is selling just about anything and that he has no set prices. He is willing to allow you to haggle and choose prices. What do you do? (Explain: your haggling, items of choice and the discussion that happens). Answer:
Pausing briefly to see his wares, I would notice an expertly-crafted sword. Glancing at my worn and commonplace blade at sheath, I would make an offer of 150 minas. The man would, most obviously, raise my bid. There would come a push-and-pull of prices until both the saleman and myself are content with the price set. Such a blade cannot go by without being purchased.
