The Ashwood Tree
By The Ashen Lady
The Ashwood tree is a deciduous plant related to the Elderwood tree, however it is far more strong, so strong in fact that there has been no proven ways found to shape the tree by any means, mundane or magical. As I had stated before; “A trebuchet would sooner fall into disrepair then bring any harm to my tree.” Adding on to this, explosives are ineffective, and so are axes, the metal of the axes would sooner break on the Ashwood’s bark then cause a scratch on it’s surface. there are more effective ways to harm the tree, but I will not be listing these offenses for obvious reasons.
Ashwood trees are a danger to everything around them simply put, every year the tree lights itself ablaze in a glorious spectacle. This blaze has been known to catch the roofing of thatch housing, and start forest fires. This fire may cause other trees to light ablaze to clear up room for the Ashwood to plant it’s seed, the ash from these burned trees act as a powerful fertilizer, perfect conditions for the tree’s children to grow.
Ashwood trees produce sap that is incredibly useful, it is both flammable and can disinfect and sterilize wounds or tools. The effects of the sap are incredibly potent, consuming it will cause you to become sluggish and in a general drunken state. If you attempt to extract this sap from my tree, I will kill you. If you desire some, you may ask me.
In spring my tree will grow leaves, they will be yellow, orange and red in color, this season of birth and fertility is a time is to show the tree’s beauty, but the foliage will not stay long, and in fact this is the most dangerous time of year for those around the tree. One should be incredibly careful carrying flames around the tree as even the heat may cause the tree to erupt into flames. Should you brandish flames even in the form of a torch during this time near my tree, you will undoubtedly be beaten or slain.
My tree is barely more than just a sapling, it will grow much larger, it will make the homesteads appear as if it’s a hobbit village, it’s inhabitants dwarves to it’s gloriousness. This tree will be here long after you die, and long after your grandchildren die, please be respectful of this archaic species for it is sacred. When it is to die, it will rage against the death of the glorious light, it will blaze in a spectacular glory for years until it is nothing, and be born again as a sapling.
You have been learned of the tree, do not make the mistake of incurring my wrath, you have been warned.
