    COURSE TYPES

There are three different types of courses at the Coalition of Arcane Knowledge: basic, intermediate, and advanced. Advanced courses are those that actively teach the different magics such as Air Evocation, Divination, and Illusion. To reach the advanced courses, though, students must complete the prerequisite basic course, which varies depending on which advanced they’d like to take. After completing and passing the required basic, students may apply for the advanced they’re interested in. Teachers of these advanced courses are not required to take any student; they handpick their students from the pool of those available. While students are waiting to get picked, they are placed in an intermediate, which is a course more specific to what they’d like to learn. For example, if a student wished to learn Fire Evocation, they must first take the basic Theory of Magic, then they are placed in the intermediate Theory of Evocation until they are picked for Fire Evocation.

Please keep in mind the courses available vary depending on the current roster of teachers and what they can teach. To see a full list of available courses, head here: https://www.lordofthecraft.net/forums/topic/193881-the-coalition-of-arcane-knowledge-course-list/.

    0dg-oLgZhKpinnjY-bF4zjRbwPx7-beOC5CiMGNO0VYDBO3C5K1hZ6jJJOYBto8b39xbPFQKhfAPrJF5DSAN4kAFED97M2EUC6MHHzR_jKaLHU09wKDD6osZihlcLChnoOFqbrk1

    COURSE STRUCTURE

Each course offered at the Coalition of Arcane Knowledge has a lesson plan that it follows, depending on how the teacher decides to structure their class. However, the following information is true for all courses:

    Homework

Homework is given as an alternative to attending class if a student cannot make a certain class. You may complete homework instead of going to class and still receive credit for that class day, though students must attend at least 50% of classes in-person to pass the course. Students may also complete homework in addition to attending class in-person for extra practice and credit. Homework must align with a course textbook, and since it is offered as an alternative to attending class, textbook pages must be referenced to provide a source for where students may obtain the necessary info to complete their homework.

    Quizzes and Exams

Exams are given to students once they receive credit for every single class and have attended at least 50% in-person, no matter where their classmates are in the course. This way, a student may join in the middle of a “semester” at any point in time and continue as normal. For example, if I join during class 1, I do classes 1-15, take the exam, and move on. But I can also join during class 9, take classes 9-15 then 1-8, take the exam, and move on. Exams must be held within school grounds. The student taking the exam must be supervised by a teacher, council member, or the headmaster. While quizzes are taken during class, exams are not, due to students being able to take them at any point during the semester. Lastly, if a student misses a quiz, they must complete it on their own time. They do not have to be supervised nor on school grounds to take a make-up quiz.

    0dg-oLgZhKpinnjY-bF4zjRbwPx7-beOC5CiMGNO0VYDBO3C5K1hZ6jJJOYBto8b39xbPFQKhfAPrJF5DSAN4kAFED97M2EUC6MHHzR_jKaLHU09wKDD6osZihlcLChnoOFqbrk1

    TUITION AND SCHOLARSHIPS

Although the school does charge tuition, there are only two fees, each of which are one-time. To take basics, students must pay a tuition of 500 Minas, and to take advanced, they must pay 1,000. If a student only wishes to take basics, they only have to pay for basic courses. However, since advanced courses require basics to be completed, to take advanced courses, students must pay for both.

Scholarships are consistently available for students of high academic achievement, part of certain groups, predicted excellence, etc. Available scholarships can be seen here: https://www.lordofthecraft.net/forums/topic/193882-the-coalition-of-arcane-knowledge-available-scholarships/.

What magic(s) will you be teaching?

    Fire Evocation

Summarise the Lore of this magic(s):

    The Void
The void is where evocation users draw their magic from. They cannot create fire, etc. out of thin air nor use any surrounding them. Instead, they draw their magic from the void. For example, a fire evocationist cannot use fire from a candle, though they may light a candle by drawing fire from the void. In order to connect to the void, aspiring voidal students must head to a Hearth and be attuned with a teacher with an accepted TA.

    Spells

There are many different spells for fire evocation and many different things you can do. Some include Smokescreen [T3] (creating a smokescreen that surrounds the user in smoke [or goes in front of them] ), Flame Trail [T2] (creating a trail of flames on the ground), and Cauterize [T1] (using flames to seal a wound). Using Conjure Flame [T1], you can create a flame and shape it how you’d like, though higher tiers may shape it more than lower ones. Fire evocationists can also throw projectiles made of voidal fire using spells such as Flame Projectile [T2] (baseball-sized) and Flame Blast [T3] (beachball-sized) and morph them into various shapes. For example, you could use Flame Blast to create an arrow made of flames and launch it at your opponent. However, you cannot launch multiple projectiles using Flame Blast, but you can by using Flame Projectile.

Note that each spell requires a certain amount of emotes to use: connection to the void, charge emotes, and a casting emote.

    Tiers

After 16 weeks, a fire evocationist will be at tier 5 (tier 1: 2 weeks, tier 2: 3 weeks, tier 3: 5 weeks, tier 4: 6 weeks). Each tier unlocks new spells that they may learn and allows them to more easily and carefully shape their flames. Each tier unlocks something new. At tier 1, you can create flames (Conjure Flame) and use Cauterize, and you can only use non-combative spells within a square meter radius. As you climb the tiers, this radius increases alongside how much control you have over your flames, how quickly you get tired, and how many spells you know. A tier 5 fire evocationist does not tire quickly, can know all of the available spells, can be extremely intricate with shaping their flames, can use non-combative spells within a 50-meter radius, and can even make their flames combustive.

    Redlines

Fire evocationists can only use fire from the void. In addition, they must have completed the connection ritual to the void at a Hearth, and three IRL days must have passed after initial connection (for that is when they will be able to connect without just passing out). Also, they cannot cast a spell without line of sight. Fire evocationists cannot conjure white flames. They have to follow the redlines for each spell. They cannot powergame the focus required for their voidal connection (depending on their progression, the focus required changes).

  7. Parrot Salmon’s Last Squawk

It was a calm night. The waves shifted about as the crew of the Stinky Sailor reached their first destination: the Druid Grove. Parrot Salmon stayed behind, guarding the ship like the great parrot he is. The three crewmates, Pirate Wasabi, Pirate Ginger, and Pirate Sashimi, led by their Captain, Pirate Sushi, make their way to the gates of the grove and call out for their pots and pans, as they require it to cook their ultimate gourmet meal. Just minutes later, Captain Treebeard and his first mate, Taileybones, appeared on the other side of the gate. Little did the pirates know that this event would change their lives forever.

The four of them called out to the fake pirates, demanding their various kitchen utensils.

    “Pots!” demanded Pirate Sushi.

    “Pans!” demanded Pirate Wasabi.

    “Spoons!” demanded Pirate Sashimi.

“Other kitchen utensils!” demanded Pirate Ginger.

Captain Treebeard and First Mate Taileybones, however, selfishly held onto their kitchen utensils. They rallied for their friends, who came to their rescue by causing a tree branch to grab onto Pirate Sushi and send her flying! Their leader was gone! But just as hope seemed to disappear forever, Parrot Salmon came along. “Fook’n fakes!” it squawked. When the brave Parrot Salmon was told by Pirate Wasabi, however, that Pirate Sushi had been thrown and most likely had died, Parrot Salmon had had enough. He thrusted himself towards the fake Captain Treebeard, attacking his chest and brilliantly knocking him over, giving Pirate Sashimi just enough time to grab one of Captain Treebeard’s treasured pots and run off. Then, he turned his attacks towards the fake First Mate Taileybones, shoving his beak into the imposter’s chest. It was a glorious scene.

However, First Mate Taileybones wasn’t having it. He spoke to Parrot Salmon, stating he’d eat him if he didn’t stop. Parrot Salmon looked up at the Druid, narrowing his eyes. Parrot Salmon’s best friend was Pirate Sushi. And yet... Pirate Sushi was thrown aside by a giant tree limb, only for asking for their pots and pans, by ridiculous imposters. Pirate Sushi was wrongfully and brutally murdered, and Parrot Salmon knew it was time to be with his best friend. There was no way he could live without her. The wondrous pair, always seen together, always fighting for pots and pans together...

He knew it was the end.

    “Eh’m com’n, Pirate Sushi.”

His last squawk rang out in the grove.

    First Mate Taileybones chomped.

    Feathers went everywhere.

He knew it was the end.

And yet... he would not be reunited with his best friend. For it is I, Pirate Sushi herself. Despite my leg being struck and dismembered, soon to be replaced with a wooden stick, I have prevailed. But my best friend, Parrot Salmon... He is dead. A tragic, unnecessary death.

But his sacrifice will not be in vane. Pirate Sashimi had taken Captain Treebeard’s most prized pot, all thanks to the distraction provided by Parrot Salmon. We have prevailed once again.

Look out, Arcas, for I am coming. In his name, Parrot Salmon’s name, I am coming.

And you will lose all of your pots and pans.

    INTRODUCTION

    Hello!

The third video in this series is all about shops! In this brief video, we delve into how to buy/sell items from existing shops and how to create your own. We purposefully did not go super in-depth with what the interaction after performing /sb looks like. In the first version of the script, we did, but that video ended up too long, complex, and confusing. So instead, we opted for a shorter tutorial that covers everything you need to know without going too detailed.

If you have any feedback or any ideas for future videos, either in this series or not, please feel free to leave a comment.

Though since you mentioned it I was wondering, is there really any difference between player signed and staff signed items other than their likely change in value and all?

    Well...

Mod-approved items are typically warnings, ST-approved items are typically some sort of lore item or obtained from an event, Admin-approved items are typically just for kicks though can also be warnings or notices, CT-approved items are typically from community events, and Tech-approved items are typically for kicks but can be for something else.

A slight criticism is that the introduction does not show a diverse enough slice of the server. It only shows High Elves, Humans, and Sutica. Maybe consider adding in a shot of Krugmar or Urguan. I know that you can’t show much without making the introduction too long, but it would be appreciated nontheless.

Yeah, we don’t really have enough time to include those places. It’s already, like, 30 seconds. However, we have footage from every nation and a couple of charters, including charters that represent races not represented in nations, so you will see some footage of Krugmar or Urguan in there. Also, Urguan is at the end of the intro! The lava area, that’s in Urguan.

Just like how the Home page should probably be edited to include Orcs in it, these tutorial videos should try and show as much of the server as possible.

The home page is being reworked to be more diverse and up-to-date already, so don’t worry, this will be fixed. And as stated above, the tutorial videos do include footage from everywhere, just we can’t fit everything into the intro!

    INTRODUCTION

Once again, the Projects FG has come out with another script, which was then moved to the Content Creation Team for voiceovers and video editing. This time, they wrote a script on how to edit items, which was edited and revised by me, sent to @FIXER957 to voice record, then finally sent to @Tykeandy to edit together! For more information on how this process works and such, please take a look at part 1 here:

    EDITING ITEMS AND SOULBINDS

The second video in this series is all about edit tokens! In this video, we touch on how to get tokens, all that you can do with edit tokens, how to use Soulbinds, how to get Soulbinds, and the two different types of Soulbinds. Currently, our shops tutorial script is complete, and it the voiceover is being recorded. As soon as it’s done, we’ll be working on that, so hopefully you’ll see it as part 3 of this series soon! Other scripts in the making include how to create a persona. Future scripts include how to use Soulstones and staff req’s.

If you have any feedback or any ideas for future videos, either in this series or not, please feel free to leave a comment.

I am not excited for this map change. I hope Talons Grotto somehow makes it through.

Also, should the elves all be put under Aegrothond, it’s going to be a ******* civil war man. I’m telling you there will be chaos and people are going to hate the staff team for it.

Trying to OOCly force a new Malinor isn’t going to work. You’re driving a player base into a less then optimal situation here.

they had less than 3%, below nation requirements. if they had more activity, sure.

plus it’s haelun’or and aegrothond, so youve got the high elves with a place and the other elves with a place. right at the start of the map, other nations/charters will be able to get land, as grool said. so it’s not like they wont get land at the start of the map. take a look at his reply here:

  14. Character Trope Guide

    udQDNUCQkHz5UdEYeJ2DpSealY1KBkyHZcYepCGW

    _7_YfMCeeVyXNPVVImAlQ7mfwk0P663nPQLL_JNo

    Hello!

In both creating an application and creating a new character once you’ve already been accepted, extremely common character tropes are something that you generally want to avoid. This quick guide will help you understand what they are and why you shouldn’t use them!

    What are character tropes?

A character trope is a widely recognizable aspect of a story that grants you information about that character, which is often the difference between flat vs dynamic characters. On Lord of the Craft, this means elements of a character’s backstory that stand out and provide insight into a character’s life.

    Broad trope categories would include:

    • Important childhood events.

      • Did this character have a life-changing event growing up?

    • Childhood friends.

      • How have this character’s friends impacted them?

    • How your character has acquired their skill set.

    • How your character views the world around them, and why.

Some things to consider when making, reviewing, or recognizing tropes on LotC are:

    1. Does this character fit a certain stereotype?
    2. Is this character’s backstory lacking in details (is it bland), or is the character’s backstory too intense (is it over the top)?
    3. Was there a justifiable cause for this character to turn out this way?
    4. And a general tip- Where is this character’s peak? You will want to make a character with a steady rise, but not yet a peak, when writing a backstory. You want to have something for your character to work for so that you will have fun roleplaying as them.

What makes a character trope good or bad?

The phrase ‘character trope’ often has a negative connotation; However, character tropes are not always negative! The main reason why most character tropes are bad is because of how common or cliché the trope is. Common character tropes are bad as they are simply overused and unoriginal.

What are some common bad character tropes used on LotC?

There are a variety of character tropes that should be avoided. Some of the common tropes are as follows:

    • Character is orphaned at a young age because of…

      • Bandits

      • Orcs

      • A freak accident

      • Dark elves

    • Being the only survivor of an...

      • Massacre

      • Accident

    • Having an older wise teacher figure that tells you various things about the world.

    • Joining the military because...

      • Your family has had soldiers in the military for generations.

      • Your father has always been your role model so you join to be just like him.

    • Seeing someone using magic when you’re young so you decide you want to pursue magic as well.

    • Trained his/her entire life to become an expert at...

    • Lost all of their memories.

How can you avoid using a bad character trope?

When it comes to avoiding bad character tropes, there are many options at your disposal. Firstly, try and subvert your tropes! If you find yourself drawn to certain overused tropes, find ways to take only parts of them, or take them out completely. This way, you will not appear like all of the others who use the same trope.

Secondly, allow change in your character. If something happens to them, let it change them. Your character's experience in roleplay should dictate how they act and take on problems. It’s alright for bad or good things to happen! Let them flow and allow them to make your character stronger.

Finally, avoid clichéd situations. Sometimes, it's not what you do but the positions your character might find themselves that causes these poor tropes! Find a unique light for making a situation. If your character was kicked from the army, have it been for a reason of valor rather than one of ignoring orders. Find a way to make your character unique; then you will have a true set of RP legs to stand on.

Trust your instincts, but also trust in the RP that you come across. Let it mold your character into something rare, and one of a kind.

good idea! thanks for the suggestion. also, the tutorial section was completely revamped, reorganized, and updated as of like a month ago! so it’s 100% up-to-date ❤️ the community team finished that project a while back

Don’t think I saw it mentioned in the list of videos being created, but perhaps a video on how to acquire land (Settlement) would be beneficial, since its no longer as open as it were before.

we were concerned about doing this due to how it will change next map, if at all. it’s changed quite a bit this map, so we haven’t really touched the idea. however, ill let the team know, and we might start on a script for that next

we’ve got LOADS more in the making, not just tutorial videos! so dont worry, youll see some cool stuff. if you have any suggestions on other types, please let us know! we are doing spotlights on nations and their histories next ❤️

    INTRODUCTION

The Content Creation Team has started a new series for their videos: tutorials! In order to help both new and old players out, we will be creating short and informational tutorial videos on how to use various plugins and general tips. The Projects FG in the Community Team writes scripts in sections for the chosen topic, I review the scripts and edit them for clarity and cohesion, pass it onto one of our volunteer voice actors who then create the voiceovers for the script, then pass it onto a footage-gatherer in the Content Creation Team who takes cinematic footage based off of what is necessary in the script, and finally, I hand it off to a video editor to put everything together. This process is currently being used for several other videos, and it’s working, so I’m excited to get to show you guys even more!

    SIGNS

The first video in this series that we’ve completed is the signs video! This video goes over most of what you can do with signs: link forum posts, make gates, build bridges, and create doors out of blocks. We currently have a tutorial on how to apply to the server in the making, and the scripts for tutorials on persona creation, using and making shops, and editing items are done, so we’re currently in the process of gathering voiceovers for them. I hope you guys see them soon!

If you have any feedback or any ideas for future videos, either in this series or not, please feel free to leave a comment.
